His tone was condescending, which was off putting when most people would find this change to be insulting to long time customers who expect more from a local place. It's no wonder they were so empty when it used to be packed. Overcharging for this and trying to explain it as a "small business" upcharge is disrespectful to locals and tourists. Plenty of local places have great goods like Street Dog (their muffins are AWESOME and fairly priced). Even Magnolia has products with price tags that are worth the money and service that does not talk down to people when noticing a significant change. I bought it feeling used and never going back.
