Why only three stars? I averaged down as follows: This place gets five stars for the taste of its food, which was truly outstanding. Obviously, that's very important. I had a pork banh mi sandwich along with a vermicelli pork, bowl and an extra eggroll. Without question, the best Vietnamese food I have had in Waco and this place would situate itself very well in a bigger city, such as Austin, based on the taste of the food. Simply delicious! But, portion size in terms of the meat was inadequate. Incredibly small portion of meat on the vermicelli pork although the overall dish was filling, I did not buy noodles and some veggies, I bought a pork dish. Same was true of the bahn mi sandwich. Not enough meat. Unfortunately, I would have to say that I do not believe this place offers good value for the money I n Waco, particularly for the pork vermicelli bowl. read more

First time coming here for lunch after solar eclipse! While many restaurants are closed, this store was kindly opened and welcome us with open arms! The lady staff was very friendly and explained all our questions we had! We ordered the vegetarian options and I got vermicelli with tofu and it was a good choice! Their pho was really mediocre compared to what I could get in Dallas, as their broth tasted like they added too much sugar, but it could be the best pho in the area, who knows? I came here with a recommendation from a Waco local, and this place did not disappoint one bit. I wanted something that was a quick healthy bite, so I opted for the Bún with pork and an eggroll. The pork was really flavorful and smoky. The eggroll was perfectly golden and crispy on the outside with the right amount of veggie filling on the inside. The vegetables were very fresh and the carrots were nicely pickled. Overall, really fantastic bowl with the savory texture of the pork and the crisp and freshness of the veggies. The fish sauce does a really good job of bridging all the different flavors! Really enjoyed the bits of peanut and fried garlic in the bowl. The staff was really nice, and the menu was really easy to follow. It seemed like a lot of people were ordering the boba, and the flavors look legit and authentic. Really encouraged that the Waco locals are willing to be adventurous and allow a place like Sugar Spice to offer traditional/authentic flavors. The atmosphere was pleasant, comfortable, and exceptionally clean. We tried the beef pho, which was served with a perfect amount of meat, noodles and broth. We shared an order of spring rolls that were absolutely delicious. To finish off the meal, we enjoyed a taro smoothie and taro milk tea with boba. It is not chicken. i can't for the life of me figure out what it is unless it's gizzard meat, but it is beyond gross. It comes to you in a little french fry baggy. It was cold and uneatable. I tired a bite and actually gagged. Another person tired a bite and immediately spit it out. Tried it for the first time today for lunch and it was excellent. My husband and I both got boba drinks, which were delicious! I ordered the beef pho and he ordered the vermicelli bowl. The pho was delicious and well made! You can tell how much time has gone into it by the quality of the broth. Also, a container with extra toppings was brought out with my bowl so I could add as I wanted, as well as fish sauce, sriracha, and hoisin on the tables. My husband LOVED his vermicelli! Our server (maybe the owner?) brought out an extra container of chilis so he could add to his spice level. Overall, atmosphere is casual, the place was clean, and service was prompt and attentive. We will be back for sure! It's nice to have somewhere this authentic and delicious so close to work! read more

The drinks are amazing, and the food is okay. I don't recommend you smelling or eating the fish sauce as it smells like vagina.

I absolutely love this place. Boba, food, staff, everything is on point. My personal favorite is black iced tea with peach and boba. If you're feeling adventurous, then I recommend Taro milk tea with boba or Taro smoothie. I'm also hoping they'll add Banh mi in the near future!!! read more

The staff is friendly and since they werent busy the order was made quickly. First visit. Probably also our last. This was our personal experience and opinions lol so don't get salty *no pun intended* if you love this place. We didn't get to try everything in the menu so will only talk about the things we ordered. Ambiance- 5/5 . Very modern. Chic. Loved the floral/green wall at entrance with neon lights perfect for pictures. Other walls had modern designs as well and TV showed asian travel videos . Very entertaining. Cleanliness - from what we've seen 4/5. Overall very clean but they ran slow at cleanup so there were multiple tables that had dirty bowls just sitting there. Not sure yet on their disinfecting processes or cleaning process. Service - 1/5 very bad. It was a rather busy high volume night and they are understaffed. So quality of service isn't expected to be good anyways but they were making mistakes. We called in an order and they said it'll be ready in 10 min. We arrive at the restaurant and we weren't greeted for 5 min until the cashier finally said we'll be with you shortly. I proceeded to sit down and wait. Another 5 min later she finally finished making drinks and new customers came in and before she catered to them she asked other customers who were sitting down if they've been helped and they said yes and instead of asking me she completely moved on to serve those who had just arrived.... So finally I had to stand up and get in line again since she forgot me. And then my husband finally just talked to I think the owner? And asked about the status of our order. She went to the kitchen and said there is none with our name. The cashier then looked up and said oh I'm so sorry I forgot to put it in that's my fault. And asked us if we wanted to wait another 15 min for it.... So for us to have gotten our food was almost 45 min wait time. The lady who was working the kitchen eventually brought in our plastic with food and just quickly said sorry about that . But did not really sound apologetic and did not even make eye contact with us. My husband was kind of put off and made a joke saying imagine if we healthcare providers acted this way with patients? Yeah... Anyways we left and said maybe the food will be worth it. Now on to after eating the food... Beef pho - 1/5 not so good either. Really disappointed probably because we have such high standards when it comes to pho. We're used to tasting the beef and saturated flavor and this was bland in terms of the beef. It felt like they probably didn't use any bone broth extract but rather just powder flavoring - but it lacked richness in the soup. Mostly salt. The meat was okay. Too thick slices. Again we've had better. Serving was pretty good size though. Overall flavor ? Absolutely Disappointing and not worth that wait. Popcorn chicken - 1/5. Again not too good. We're spoiled because we're used to popcorn chicken from dallas and Houston and those Chinatowns knowwwww their spices and flavoring. This was very basic. No spice level options. Lacked crispiness and worst of all one of the chicken I bit into was UNCOOKED and still RAW hello salmonella ironic. My infectious disease husband had to recook it at home. We did not try any boba or drinks but maybe those would have been good? Overall we were very disappointed with both service and food. We'd probably be going back to our favorite pho place in temple whenever we have cravings again. read more
