I love these guys. I was/am new to rescuing, and the first few weeks with my pup were stressful to say the least... mostly because I didn't have the right education or understanding of working with a rescue, nevermind a Working Breed (the rescue had completely mislabeled his paperwork, but I love him with my whole heart nonetheless). After calling every possible training facility and trainer in the West Metro region, expressing major concern about Shadow having possible aggression issues, Jon + Judson + Blaine very patiently heard me out, answered every question I had, put my mind at ease, and also showed me that he does not in fact have aggression issues, just had some fear and needed to have his confidence built up. This was a stark contrast to a "professional trainer" (I will NEVER do business with nor recommend Canine Dimensions, particularly Summer Rhodes) who basically told me: (1) my puppy's behavior was beyond unnatural, and (2) I was not the right person for this dog, which was devastating to hear. We had Gina as our primary trainer, with Abel stepping in for our 4th session. I was amazed at the difference with my dog after only 1 session! We had adopted him as a 10 month old rescue from Foothills Animal Shelter after he was returned in less than 24 hours his first time out. He was big, strong, mouthy, jumped up, and cats, squirrels and bunnies sent him straight into the "red zone": barking, pulling, jumping, and completely unresponsive to any commands. Odie is a stubborn dog, let me tell you. After puppy training classes, a different board and train program and multiple DIY trainings, we were scared that we weren't ever going to be able to control him. We decided to give sit means sit a shot. Initially, we were worried that it was a more aggressive approach, but we couldn't be more wrong. It's everything we could have asked for and more. We enrolled Odie in the two week board and train program and it did wonders! Odie came back listening, not nipping, and most importantly a better dog. Unlike other programs, these changes in behavior lasted. He is a well trained dog that still has his goofy personality! It was 100% worth the investment. Now we get compliments everywhere we go! This experience far exceeded our expectations! We bought the (6) 1 hour classes with the dog's lifetime of follow up training. It was worth every penny. The facility is clean. The trainers are SO nice. They really take their time to understand what YOU want to get out of the training. They are super patient with you and make sure you understand how to do the commands. Things that we learned (beyond what we already taught my dog): Sit without getting up, going and staying in a place, how to keep his attention with all kinds of distractions, how to walk with him next to me, how to walk loose without pulling, how to not jump on people, how to greet people while sitting, how to not be afraid of loud noises, how to come on command. My dog's behavior has improved SO much. He is much less reactive on walks when we run into dogs that he doesn't like. He listens off leash. He doesn't run away when we get his harness put on. I adopted two 8 month old rescue Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog mixes a few months ago. The rescue outfit estimated they had been living on their own for many months based on their poor health and low weight. They recovered very fast, and as their health improved it was clear I needed to get these high energy, hard to control dogs into training. Sit Means Sit was a perfect match. Abel Rodriguez worked wonders! After just a few classes our dogs were obeying basic commands such as sit, place, come, etc. By the end of the training I could walk them off leash. I could never have achieved these results on my own. I know this is a work in progress, and plan to continue with monthly classes. Abel really has a way with dogs, and clearly loves what he does. He not only is skilled with obedience issues but has a wealth of knowledge on behavioral issues. For anyone looking for dog training, I highly recommend Sit Means Sit. Our little girl Stella was a handful. She is a Corgi/Cattle Dog so all herding dog. Stella is good with humans but her siblings and other dogs, she wanted to lead. She would walk by and snip, bark. We tried time out and medication even a spanking. Nothing was working. Our 2 males would always be very still when she would walk by. Almost like if you avoid eye contact, she'll go away. Now, she listens and follows commands. She understands with or without her collar. She will get a treat here and there but her training reward, is strictly praise. When my then 7mo old BHS rescue puppy Bella and I first consulted with Jon I was ready to return her!! I was stressed out, depressed and overwhelmed! Abel and Jon have been great to work with! I initially held off on training for a few months because of the cost but now I wish I would have started earlier because I saw a change from day 1. I used to dread taking my big Saint Bernard on walks because he would bark at other dogs and pull but after some lessons with Abel, my dog Apollo is an angel. He meets and greets all sorts of dogs and doesn't react to other dogs anymore. I feel so much more in control and enjoy taking Apollo out to breweries and parks now.
