My rental experience started with the pick up shuttle taking 45 minutes to pick up from the airport. I called the local office and the customer person whom answered was very unfriendly just saying "they'll get there" and hung up. I ended up finding a driver from another rental company's shuttle and asking how often the SIXT shuttle does come and he said the driver from SIXT was a friend of his and he ended up contacting the driver. I was told the shuttle would be there is 5 minutes, but we waited an additional 20 minutes. When I finally got my rental vehicle, the car I received was in very poor condition - it was dirty, the hub caps were held on with zip ties, the engine power was very problematic and it only had a quarter tank. The first thing I had to do after driving off the lot was get gas. I and the passengers in the car all experienced bug bites after sitting in the car. The engine did not start twice. After the car not starting the second time, we were able to start the car and get back to our resort. I contacted the local office and was told someone would be out later the day I called, to my location (Sunday, 12/13) to replace the vehicle. No one came that evening. I never received a follow up call. The next day, it took several calls to arrange for someone to come. Finally, on Monday afternoon, a representative from U-SAVE car rental came with a replacement car, which was in better condition. The U-SAVE customer service rep was friendly. He said the car battery was in very poor condition. Upon returning the car and closing out my rental agreement, it was noted that one of the hub cabs fell off the original problematic car - we were able to save the other hub cap by removing it and putting it in the trunk (it was held on with 1 zip tie). We were charged for the lost hub cap on the original car. We were credited 1 day rental for the car not starting and waiting for the replacement (we were told this when they replaced the car) BUT then still charged $50 for the missing hub cap - with a $15 credit I still paid a $35 fee. This seems like a scam - using zip ties to hold on hub caps and then charging the driver when they fall off. Also, given the condition of the car and all the problems with the rental, I should not have been charged ANYTHING extra. The customer service person, F. Acevedo, who checked me out was very unhelpful. He said he needed to ask his manager, Madeline, about not charging for the missing hub cap. He went to a back room and came back to say the only thing they can do is use the $15 credit against the $50 fee. I would think with all the terrible conditions of my rental experience, the manager would come out in person to speak with me. I relented to paying the $35 for the missing hub cap, because I wanted to finish my transaction and leave and never have to deal with SIXT again. The rental experience was the worst part of my Puerto Rico trip and I will be sure to let anyone I know who is traveling to PR to never rent from SIXT. I rent cars often in the US and often when I travel. This is by far, is the worst car rental and customer service I have ever experienced. While the rental prices for SIXT are very cheap, it truly is, you get what you pay for, and quite frankly not worth it. I would rather pay a little more and experience a safe and sound travel experience with a more reputable car rental. read more

I made a reservation of car rental to San Juan earlier this month. The reservation I made on priceline in total is $160. However, the rental car company SIXT charged me $184, and said that the extra money are taxes. However, the priceline price should include all taxes and fees as they claimed on their website. I called priceline to complain after coming back, and they told me the extra money are roadside assistance fees. However, SIXT didn't give me an option to decline this service when picking up the car! In addition, the car I got is very old and has scratches and dents all over the car. The pick-up location is very far away from airport. I wouldn't recommend this place if you are renting in San Juan. read more

This is one place to stay away from!!!!! We rented a Dodge Grand Caravan the rear tire had a nail in it th staff was overfilling the tire so I didn't leak out as fast it lasted 2 days The windshield wipers were useless in the rain to the point that you needed to pull over if it started to rain. When we returned the van and informed the staff of the issues it was like ok but they seemed to have no interest in. I highly recommend avoiding this rental agency. When I arrived they had one person working the desk frantically trying to do the job of several people. She didn't have the time to explain the line item charges. I specifically and repeatedly expressed that I wanted NO ADDITIONAL INSURANCE COVERAGE. Despite this I was charged for MLI insurance. When I called and told them this was incorrect and that it needed to be removed, they asked to see my insurance policy. When I sent them the policy they still refused and stated I signed for the MLI coverage. However, on the invoice, I signed for something called SLI. Despite explaining this they were unwilling to work with me in any capacity. Long story short - it's a scam and you are better off with a more reputable company. read more

Truly - DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!! They charged me almost as much a the entire rental for insurance. They will not let you off the lot if you try to use your credit card. Also, I declined their stupid automatic toll fee, paid cash at all the tolls, and then - what do you know - they charged me for tolls. T R A S H. The other rental car places are right down the road. Rented a car prior to my trip. First of all, they are not located at the airport. I had to take a taxi to their location because they refused to pick me up. I then had to wait over two hours because they did not have the car that was promised. They found me another vehicle and from two hundred dollars I had agreed to pay with hot wire (which is another worthless company) I ended up paying over five hundred dollars. Plus they froze five hundred dollars from my bank account. Finally I had to leave the vehicle in the parking lot at the airport because they were closed at the time of my departure for which they also charged me. This was the worst car rental experience ever. We waited for 30+ minutes after completing agreement for car. The small lobby was filled with people waiting as there seemed to be no system in place. The address on the printed materials given to us was incorrect. When we called we were told "that was our previous location." The agent texted the correct new address. Here is my profile picking up my car review. I come to Puerto Rico 1 or twice a year. My family members and co-workers visit often. Everyone is appalled at my story. Paid for my car via Hotwire. A bate and switch type of thing. All my paperwork states pick up at car at airport. I walk to the pick up car area and was told that Sixt rental service shuttle would pick me up across the street. A shuttle car driver gave me the number to call them to pick me up. Another shuttle driver calls over to the company and says he will drive me over. The rental car company is in a small outside mall no rental cars on site. I walk into the office and no one acknowledges me. There are several customers to seem to be up set. One of the 2 lady's states there are other people ahead of me. I proceed to si down. The young lady calls me over. I was told my car was not available. A bigger car was going to be given to me at the same price. Within moments I was told that car was not available. I was onto of what I paid for a 12 day rental, on top of what I paid for 12 day car insurance coverage. The insurance car coverage was paid at the time. On top of the 80.00 dollars to cover all tolls I had to pay a separate car holding fee right at that moment. $250.00. I was told that will be returned to my card as soon as I return the car. I forgot to add I was told I would get the car in 10 minutes after already being there 30 minutes. 30 minutes later I had to get up and ask where was my car rental. I was told, oh it should be coming. Finally, The car is all dented up, with pieces sticking out from the front. I can say the car drives really well. Now, today is the day I am returning the car. I am hoping that the return will not be as difficult as the pick up and THAT MY $250 are returned. Note: i never had a problem before! Wish me luck. I will write again to let everyone know how it went. Note: usually when I rent a car here in Puerto Rico, I walk across the street to the car rental area, I sign my paperwork, I walk up straits to the car pick up area. If more than 1 of the model cars I am renting is available, I am told I can choose the one I want and then I go on my merry way. I haven't had any of the above noted issues. I dropped off the car. Absolute worst experience I have ever had trying to rent a car. After an hour and a half wait in the heat at the airport with 6 kids they finally got a hurtle for us but we had to fight for seats. After arriving to pick up a vehicle at their office another 2 hour wait just to be denied a rental after they demanded an additional $300 on top of the full rental price I already paid plus an additional $500 deposit. After arguing they cancelled our reservation and refused then to rent us a vehicle and left a family of 8 in a foreign country with no transportation in an awful neighborhood. Buyer beware, this place is a scam and if you call them out for their scamming they will make you pay for it by refusing the pre paid rental and not crediting you back your money. Honestly, a awful, disorganized mess. When we arrived the counter people said we had to wait and be helped in the order the reservations were made??!!! So there were two counter people that couldn't help us because the person who made a reservation before us hadn't gotten there yet. Then we needed to extend our trip by 2 days as a relative passed away and it was an incredible hassle. Not only that but for the extension they RAISED the price of the car $25 on top of what our original price was. So they asked us to pay twice as much for those days. I wish I would have checked Google or Yelp first. This place is bad. I travel about 8-10 times a year for business and a few times a year for vacation and rent cars all the time. In 15 years, this has been the worst experience I've had with a rental car company. (Sixt/U-Save/Nu are all the same company and share employees) TLDR- don't rent from Sixt or any of their affiliates in this same location - poor location with horrible processes equate to tons of lost time for the customer 1- off site- not at the airport as it seemed when I booked... oh well, that can be overlooked... 2- worst parking situation - shared small parking lot with 10 other businesses - cars are stored across the street and cars are backed up for pick up and drop off because of this poor setup 3- pick up - took 55 min to wait in line and go through their painful process 4- had my reservation wrong - went through a third party site and luckily had a screenshot of the vehicle reservation to prove I reserved a 7 passenger SUV not a 5 passenger crossover. 5- drop off was even worse - I waited 20 min (parked illegally since there was no where to really return the car) before someone finally checked the mileage and condition, then I was sent inside to wait in another 10 min line where I was told I was 10 min late dropping off the car (because of course the guy outside rounded up to the hour and didn't mark for the time I was sitting there without anyone to check out the car). My wife and kids went ahead to the airport while I went through 15 minutes of trying to get them to fix their mistake and remove the late return charge. 6- I had a parking ticket because I didn't understand a sign and parked right next to 3 other cars who also got tickets and instead of being able to pay the $75 ticket online, I was forced to do it through Sixt at an additional fee of $50 (it takes them maybe 10-15 min of a low wage secretary's time, so they must love it when you get a ticket) read more

The people before could not even afford the car due to the insane upcharge that they don't even mention on the website. The only good thing was the shuttle driver. Although we did wait about 30 minutes for him to arrive. The woman at the front truly has no idea what she is doing. I would not recommend anyone come here. Amazing customer service! Our flight got in late and our friends whose names were not on the booking begged the beautiful customer service people to wait up for us and we were able to get our car and not be stranded. Best of the best. Car was clean and nice, too! Increible servicio al cliente. have to say that I was very unimpressed with the service provided in San Juan. I rented before in the USA and had absolutely no problems and for that reason, I became a member but I was greatly disappointed. Fist I waited about half an hour at the airport to be picked up, the location is far and in a questionable neighborhood. At check-in, I found out that the didn't have any of my membership information ( I was told that it only worked in the USA but as far as I know PR is part of the USA). Then I found out that the price that was given online was not the real price... There was a mandatory insurance fee... I tried to explain that I was covered by my insurance company but they wouldn't take that for an answer... They wanted writing confirmation! That fee tripled the price given!!! Why not be honest in the first place about all hidden fees? Then the car was not cleaned yet so another 45-minute wait. The car itself was not bad but later that day I realized that the breaks were worn out not enough to be dangerous but I didn't venture into the mountains. I did, however, drive to Old San Juan on a rainy night and the car didn't have enough power to go up the hills and worst of all it kept sliding on the wet cobblestone... Scary to say the least... And then on our final night, someone pointed out that my right front light was burnt out and I've been driving like that for 4 nights! Needless to say, I will never trust Sixt again.. Worst experience ever renting a car. They gave me a car that was in an accident and a piece was broken in the bottom where the car kept overheating and shutting off. Took me 5 hours to get in contact with someone to help from another location (aguadilla PR) I rented from San Juan PR. They didn't pick up phone at all. Finally got it towed and got yet another damaged car. While waiting for another car I was calling office mind you there was not one customer so they were not busy at all! Customer service was awful! Never again! The car also didn't have oil. I am still waiting for a response from corporate regarding complaint. Do NOT rent from Sixt! Complete nightmare. read more

I've used many rental agencies in my life and in many countries. This is the worst experience ever. Started by Sixt taking 35 minutes to pick us up from airport even after calling them. Once there I was charged 500$ deposit for car. Never have I been charged this much for deposit. After that they asked for my declaration page for my insurance again something I've never experienced. At the end fortunately the agent just asked for company, but to top it off had to pay upfront for tolls which amounted to 88$ for 5 days, regardless of how much I used them. Will never use them again here in PR or in the states. To clarify I have rented from Avis, Hertz, National etc here but never had this experience. read more

This rental agency lied to me and knowingly gave me a defective vehicle. I have reported them to American Express and will shortly report them to the Better Business Bureau. When I picked up my vehicle they said that in order for the battery to not die I had to turn off the radio and A/C each time I turned my vehicle off; otherwise the battery would die. A car battery should be drawing minimal amps when the ignition switched is turned off (if it saves stations) and an A/C unit is run using the fan belts powered by the engine. Thus, when turned off it shouldn't be drawing any power. Now, even if any of their lies were true the radio in the car didn't actually have a power button (only a volume button) and thus couldn't be turned off absent shutting off the entire vehicle. These lies were told to me because Sixt Car Rental in San Juan, Puerto Rico knew when renting me the car that their vehicle had a more serious issue (a bad alternator, an electrical "leak" via the wiring harness, etc). Yet they decided to rent this car anyway. Sure enough my car never turned on again after arriving at my destination of Rincon, Puerto Rico. I could not use my car for the entire week of the vacation rental. When I rented the vehicle I was told that there were no other vehicles available from them in San Juan or elsewhere and thus calling them from Rincon would not have allowed me to exchange the car. In order to return to San Juan I had to have a local jumpstart my car. I could not stop on the way back to San Juan for fear of being stranded. Once I returned to San Juan Sixt sent a mechanic to replace the battery but instead he only showed up with jumper cables. After delaying our day again to return to get a battery he brought the wrong one. Although the battery fit in the cradle located within the engine compartment; the cables did not reach across the new battery. So the mechanic just placed the battery horizontally across the cradle in a very unsecure position to make the cables fit. Going over any speedbump or hitting any pothole had the potential to send the battery forward into the fan belt and placing everyone in danger. Later that day the car did not start (hence the likely problem with an electrical leak somewhere in the wiring harness). In fact, Sixt knew this to be the likely problem as they said they had replaced the battery only the week before. Clearly something was wrong. When we called back to report the problem for the 6th time they decided to send a mechanic while we were out to lunch. They left a batter, but no tools, and jumper cables on the front lawn of my friend's house and told us to replace the battery. Replacing a battery is easy but it is not my job when I rent a car. When I returned the car and started to explain all the problems (which they knew about for days) they attempted to ignore me and just have me signed a receipt for $1830 as if there was no problem. I refused. In fact, they purposely waited so long in speaking to me in order for me to get nervous and leave in order to make my flight. I refused to leave until they decided to address my concerns and they still said I should leave to get on the plane and just call them later. I asked for the manager and whomever we had spoken with on the phone over the past few days. Both individuals were equally as callous did not want to help. After they realized that I was not going to leave until they decided to deal with their mistakes and defective vehicle. The entire cost of the rental was $1830. Although the car only functioned on two of seven days (and only on the second occasion because a local jumpstarted the car) they first offered only a $90 refund. After much back and forth they offered a $330 refund. Unfortunately this would still leave me with a $1500 charge for a car that didn't work and which they knew to be defective when they rented it to me. The entire time they still tried to get me to sign the receipt for the entire amount. I refused the small refund and left without signing any receipt and I was forced to contest the entire amount with American Express. Furthermore, I called the local Ford maintenance department and they just laughed about what Sixt claimed was a defect with that model of car. Ford explained that you never have to turn the radio or A/C off and that it'd obviously be absurd for any car manufacturer to sell a car that had those issues. So Sixt Car Rental knowingly rented us a car which they very well knew could strand us somewhere, lied to us, negligently replaced a battery which could have slid forward into the fan belt and placed everyone in danger, told us to replace the battery again ourselves, refused to at first speak with me when I returned the car, made me miss my flight and incur ticket change fees and hotel fees, and finally refused to offer any refund worth considering. They are the worst and may very likely see me in court. read more

Referred me to the location next to them who wanted to charge me more and give me a bad car. There's a reason this company has one star! It should be ZERO stars!! Do not rent with them!! We reserved a car and babysit prior to leaving the US. When we got to the car rental place, which is off site and not at the airport, we waited 30 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. It became even more painful when we were told they did not have the car we reserved and we would be taken to dollar-rent-a-car to receive a vehicle from them. The process at dollar was smooth and swift until we found out they did not have any baby seats left. The agent told us that no one at Sixt told him we needed one. Ultimately we had to go back to Sixt to try to get a seat and when we went there the manager refused to allow us to rent one because the car rental wasn't with them! I was appalled and asked to speak to her and she refused to come out. The agent at Sixt said it didn't matter that our initial reservation was with them and it wasn't their fault the car wasn't available because we were now customers of dollar and they couldn't honor the baby seat request. Airport shuttle to the rental agency no more than 5 minutes away. No problems with the hotwire booking. Pleasant desk agents even helped me out find food close to the office. Free water and coffee inside. Make sure that if you plan on taking toll roads, opt for the electronic toll collection which is better than paying other fees. Sixt Car Rental service is a NIGHTMARE. One star is too much. Booked a trip 3-month prior to arrival. Got to airport shutter arrived, the driver was a very nice person and very informative. Arrive at the rental office we had to wait for 2hrs in other to get to the front desk. While waiting for 2hrs in their waiting room you are exposed to a unisex bathroom, no coffee or amenities, while you waiting, is a negative point. AFTER 2hrs, waiting in their tinny waiting room we got a call to the front desk and the nightmare begins: 1. They didn't have the Nissan Altima available, I asked why and they told me I have Call-in and reserved the specific vehicle. I pre-paid and reserve the vehicle 3month ago. "Never head that one before." 2. They wanted to hold an additional $500 dollars in my credit card due to hold/return policy. Not disclosed in the reservation information in the website. "Never head that one before." 3. The COLLISION policy I purchased thru Priceline.com was not sufficient to the rental company "Sixt" for protection. I need it to get or either my credit card insurance policy involve or my personal Full Cover insurance policy in other to rent the vehicle. Questionable? 4. The Toll pre-paid policy. They wanted to pre-charge to cover tolls expenses, even if I used less than the amount they require a day. What's ever I didn't use they are entitled to keep the funds with no refunded. "Crazy Stuff" = Money SCAM. Before we finished the rental process, many folks with family and even a military soldier were upset with their policy and hiding fees like us. "Sad" We end up using our spare credit card assign to cover all vacation expenses to rent the vehicle and cover ALL UNDISCLOSED FEES, otherwise, we had to go back to the airport and more time consuming of our vacation time. Five days later, At the return of rental two folks were there complaining about the company and hiding feeds. One gentleman and his child couldn't get the vehicle rental because of the same issues I experienced at my arrival. He couldn't afford the extra fees in his credit card. We got discharged within 15 minutes, I which I got the same service at arrival. And final, they don't want to refund the pre-paid of the rental expenses due to their policy. A vehicle I never used. This is a SCAM. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. Save yourself and your family trouble and DON NOT USED THIS COMPANY IN PUERTO RICO TO RENT A VEHICLE. Probably the WORST car rental I have Ever dealt with. I wish I could have given them NO STARS. Customer service were horrible. They are like machines. Everything is either black or white. They don't work with the customer. I had a deal from Hotwire for a SUV. But Sixt knows that if they rent it to a walk-in customer they can make double the money. I recently rented a car from Sixt in Los Angeles. While the name is the same the experience and car selection is not the same. I absolutely do not recommend renting from Sixt in San Juan, PR. The car was an older Kia they overcharged my credit card the rental and attempted to charge $7.00 a day for tolls which was not needed. The remote to the car did not work, therefore you had to use the key to lock and unlock the doors. The car smelled and had a large amount of damage both inside and outside the vehicle. In addition to my credit card being overcharged they took another $250 deposit to rent a Kia!!! I rented a Cadillac SUV from Sixt in Los Angeles and the deposit was only $100. This fee was extremely excessive. Dirty cars, limited selection and a premium price for a Kia. I could of rented a better car from another rental agency at a much lower price. If you are familiar with this agency having wonderful cars in Europe or the United States I am sad to say you will not have a good experience with Sixt in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Do not rent! I went to Sixt because I had a previous reservation with their "sister" company, U-Save, which was closed when I arrived in San Juan, PR. Sixt told me they would give me the rental for the same price as U-Save since they were their sister company. After forcing me to take full coverage insurance and all their taxes and fees, the rental was triple what I was originally going to pay. Almost $1500. I ended up turning the car in earlier, about half the rental term, and expected a decent credit for the remaining days, but surprise, they gave me a minimal credit return. I also have tried to call their Carolina, PR office to speak to their customer service, and each time it gets to that selection, it hangs up. This is a scam company, they bait and switch your prices and are not customer service oriented. AVOID them at all costs. I will never use U-Save or Sixt again. When planning my trip to Puerto Rico I used Expedia to find a car rental. I reserved and confirmed a rental with Sixt. When I arrived at the airport the Sixt attendant said there were no vehicles available. I asked how is that possible if I had a reservation. She said too many people extended their contracts. Sixt rather extend contracts than HONOR reservations. Stranded in the airport after midnight. I will never use them again. I suggest you don't use them at all. read more
