I am extremely disappointed with my experience renting from SIXT. On May 3, 2026, I rented a vehicle from SIXT and drove from Las Vegas to Los Angeles without any accidents, incidents, or damage to the vehicle. After I returned the car, I was unexpectedly charged $1,049.73 for two tiny marks on a door panel. I do not accept responsibility for this alleged damage and believe the claim is completely unsupported. SIXT has not provided any evidence showing that these marks were not already present before my rental began. They have also failed to provide pre-rental photos proving that the damage occurred during my rental period. Despite the lack of evidence, SIXT is demanding more than $1,000 from me. In my opinion, if a company intends to hold a customer financially responsible for damage, it should be able to prove that the damage did not exist before the rental and that it was actually caused by the renter. I am formally disputing this charge and am prepared to pursue all available legal remedies if necessary. This experience has seriously damaged my trust in SIXT's damage claim process. My advice to anyone renting from SIXT: take detailed photos and videos of the entire vehicle before and after your rental. It may save you from facing a similar situation. Damage Claim Number: 9077934317.

Joanna was amazing help. She knows exactly whats going on, she is not only nice but stunning as well. Thanks to her, I was able to retrieve something with a lot of sentimental value. Thank you! You have an amazing customer service and smile!

AFTER you wait in line in the lobby and then after a long wait with an agent, then you have to wait in this long line to get your car!

I am only giving SIXT one star because I am able to drive it one way. Otherwise do NOT rent from here! Even though I had a car reserved... it did me zero good! After you have a long wait in the lobby, you then have a long wait with the agent at the desk only to find another long line to get your car! And not even the car I reserved! Don't be in a hurry to get to a business meeting like I am because you will be late! Very upset with SIXT Car Rental!

Summary: Rented two cars from Sixt LAX in one week. Was charged $710 for minor rim scratches on the first car. Filed a claim through my credit card's rental damage coverage, received confirmation that the claim was approved and a check was sent to Sixt on 3/17, and notified Sixt twice by email with documentation. They sent me to collections on 3/23 -- less than two weeks after the invoice and six days after the payment was confirmed sent. I am requesting that Sixt immediately recall this account from collections and confirm resolution in writing. First off, everyone I interacted with at Sixt was lovely. It was a great first experience in LA. The problem came when we turned the car in. I rented two cars from this location in the same week. One was with a group of friends and one was with my girlfriend. I had rental car damage coverage through my credit card, so I asked for liability only. When I asked for this for the first car, I later realized we were charged $45ish for the liability insurance for 5 days and then another $60 for extended roadside assistance, which we didn't ask for. I couldn't have been more clear - "liability only". When we picked up the second car, it was easily understood - and it was only $40 for another 3 days driving up the coast to San Francisco. When I turned in one car, they showed me rim scratches that I hadn't noticed. See the pictures. 1-2 mm wide scratches on the very side of the rim. I hadn't thought to be so detailed with my pictures, trusting that the rental car company that was charging me hundreds per day (and hundreds more overall than other rental companies) would have better customer care. The rep incorrectly told me that I was covered and didn't owe anything for the damage. I received an email this week telling me these scratches were a charge of $710. My card company will likely cover this but it's a headache to go through all the paperwork. So, I paid $700 for 5 days to rent the car, and then they get another $710 for rim scratches - see the pictures for yourself. The second car I picked up, I took detailed pictures, having learned my lesson. When I turned in this car, I received pictures of damage that they asked me to explain. If I hadn't taken 25 detailed pictures of the entire car beforehand, I would have had no recourse. There was a spot on the hood they called "graffiti" that I knew was sap and had taken a picture of. By the way - I had uploaded all of these pictures to their mobile app when I picked the car up, by scanning the QR code they gave me. They had these pictures. Another damage they asked me to explain was a very thin 1 inch scratch on the rim. So, they rent me a car to drive 500 miles up the coast and they expect literally nothing to happen to the car? No rocks on the road? What exactly is the $100-200/day for? I chose this company because they had a reputation to not have hidden fees or aggressive damage claims. They were more than twice as much as other options at LAX, and I thought it would be worth it to not have to deal with the extra headaches - they exact things I'm describing in this review. Based on my experience - TWO times in one week - go somewhere else. I'm definitely never using Sixt again. UPDATE: They sent me to collections after I had confirmed the credit card company paid the charge I filled out and submitted my credit card company's claim within a few hours of receiving the Sixt invoice for the car damage. I received the Sixt damage invoice on 3/10 at 1:50pm I received confirmation about my card benefits request on 3/10 at 4:55pm I emailed Sixt by replying to their invoice email (claimsmanagement-usa@sixt.com) on 3/10 at 7:01pm letting them know I had submitted the claim and I asked for an extension of the 3/24/26 "due date" listed on their invoice email to accomodate the 1-2 week wait time listed by my credit card company. I received confirmation that my credit card company had approved the request and had sent a check to Sixt on 3/17 at 3:12pm. I emailed the same Sixt email on 3/17 at 5:20pm letting them know the claim had been approved with the attached PDF letter I'd received from my card company. I received a call on 3/27 at 12:22pm from an automated line tell me that I had been sent to collections on 3/23 - one day before the due date they listed. When I asked to speak to a representative, they let me know that the call center closes at 1pm central time daily. I've filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I've also filed a Better Business Bureau complaint. If this appears on my credit report, I will dispute it with all three bureaus. The overall experience with Sixt Rent-a-Car was fine. The staff were polite and professional, and the car itself was in good condition. However, when they say they're giving you an "upgrade," it's not really true -- it's the same class of car, just presented as if it were an upgrade to make you feel happy. Don't get too excited about that. They also promise a shuttle to the airport every 15-20 minutes, but that's not accurate. We've been waiting for more than 40 minutes, and there's still no shuttle. It's late, and the service is not as reliable as they claim.

No jack and no spare tire

So here's the response from Sixt: "Thank you for reaching out and for providing a detailed account of your experience. We're very sorry to hear about the inconvenience and stress this situation caused, especially given the extreme temperatures and remote location. After reviewing your rental details, we see that the tire issue occurred one day after pickup, and that optional coverage through SIXT was not purchased. Without coverage, and given your location--approximately 200 miles from the nearest SIXT branch in Phoenix--dispatching a tow was not a feasible option through our standard roadside assistance, especially as there were quicker local solutions available to you, and other options were provided, in which you declined. Additionally, the vehicle you rented, the Toyota Prius, is not equipped with a spare tire. Instead, it typically comes with a tire puncture repair kit and a small air compressor, as is standard for that vehicle type. We understand the frustration this caused and appreciate your resourcefulness in securing local assistance on your own, however, we unfortunately must deny your request for reimbursement/compensation. We appreciate your understanding. Kind regards," So Basically "Roadside Assistance Protection" has a milage limit on Sixt rentals. Also, notice how they used Phoenix as reference when the rental was Las Vegas which is 110 miles away, roughly a 1 hour and 38-minute drive. Left me stranded in the middle of the desert between towns. From the Sixt car rental site: "Roadside Assistance Protection is optional with your car rental and will be provided at no added cost for non-covered roadside emergencies such as replacement of lost keys or key fobs, key lockout service, flat tire service, jump-starts, and empty fuel tank issues." This a lie! During my last vacation, I rented a car from Sixt and ended up with a Toyota Prius. I've since learned that this particular model uses a specialty tire that most shops don't keep in stock. While exploring the area with my "unlimited miles," I got a flat tire. I pulled off the road and realized that the car had no jack or spare tire and was missing the "fix a flat kit", so contacted Sixt's roadside assistance. The operator I reached had limited English skills, and I had to clarify my location several times--explaining that I was in the desert, not ordering dessert. Once she finally understood where I was, she refused to dispatch assistance because I was "too far from the airport." When I asked if she truly understood my situation, she told me I would need to "figure it out." This all happened on a Sunday during a three-day weekend. Left without help, I called the nearest roadside assistance service I could find, and eventually had to arrange for a tow. As it turned out, the tire was indeed a specialty type and took 48 hours to replace--entirely at my own expense. ($534.00) Never renting from this company again, since the roadside assistance is a lie and they will leave you hanging (to die)

The facility itself looks quite new and modern. Once you arrive, you need to go up to the 5th floor following the signs to the rental counter. It's a bit of a walk from where the shuttle drops you off, so keep that in mind if you're traveling with luggage. There are both elevators and escalators available. Once I reached the counter and was helped, the actual rental process took less than five minutes. One thing to be aware of is that the rental clock starts when you sign the contract, but you then have to go all the way back down to the 1st floor to pick up your car, which takes additional time. Almost 20/30 minutes of people in line waiting to get a car. Drop-off was incredibly easy. Just follow the Budget signs, and attendants guide you through the process. You simply leave the keys in a little basket inside the car, and cameras scan the car as you drive in. I'm still impressed by how they somehow knew the car had been returned with the correct fuel level and without any new damage. The rental time stops as you drive into the return area, which takes away some of the stress if you're cutting it close to your scheduled return time. The free shuttle back to LAX takes around 10-15 minutes, but allow extra time for traffic. The shuttle operates on the lower level only, which is the Arrivals level--the same level where you'll be picked up when arriving at LAX. There are plenty of shuttles going back and forth.

I found my assigned car fairly easily and rode off uneventfully. So far so good! I didn't even have to fill my tank up yet. Haha! **Terrible Experience at FOX Rent-a-Car/Europcar at LAX, July 11, 2026**…read more We had an absolutely horrible car rental experience at LAX on July 11, 2026. We arrived around 11:15 AM and had pre-paid through Expedia. We waited almost an hour in a hot building with very limited seating just to check in. The facility was extremely crowded, and many customers were waiting over an hour for their vehicles. The associate told us an upgrade would cost $200 plus taxes, which was just over $220. I remember this clearly because I called my sister to make sure the upgrade was okay since she was covering the cost and paying us back. After authorizing the charge, we were told we would have to wait 45 minutes for a car because none were available. To be clear, our original rental car was not available either. We ended up waiting over another hour. We finally received a car that was dirty and smelled. There were almost no cars in the lot, and we did try to switch to a different vehicle, but the only other option was not a 6-seater, which was the reason we had paid to upgrade in the first place. We arrived at 11:15 AM and didn't leave until approximately 1:30 PM. We lost over two hours of our vacation just trying to get a rental car. The billing was another issue. We were told the upgrade would be just over $220, but the paperwork we received stated the charge would not exceed $304. That was already different from what I had told my sister the upgrade would cost. We were later charged approximately $390, supposedly due to a charge for a full tank of gas. We had filled the car in Malibu the day before and had barely driven it, so there was more than half a tank remaining when we returned it. When we contacted customer service, they were rude and dismissive. They offered only a small credit toward a future rental, which is useless because we will never rent from them again. When my husband requested to speak with a supervisor, we were told someone would call within 72 to 96 hours. When he asked to speak with the supervisor who was apparently there, the representative refused. This was an unacceptable experience from start to finish. Long waits, a dirty and smelly vehicle, unexpected and questionable charges, and terrible customer service. We rented through Europcar, not FOX, but apparently they are connected or operated by the same company. Travelers should be aware of this and carefully check all paperwork and charges before signing anything. **We will never rent from this company again.**
