Warning- I HIGHLY suggest do Not the big name car companies at the LAX airport where you will spend thirty minutes waiting for a shuttle, thirty minutes on the shuttle and wait forever. We were with another company (rhymes with Squirts!) and there was a line For the line, people had already been waiting for 4 hours!!!!! My partner and I have used this facility on Washington Blvd and Beethoven several times, as we live down the block, and NEVER had an incident. This past weekend (Easter Weekend) my partner rented a truck for one day to take some materials to property he has in Malibu - he made a round trip and was TOLD today, he drove 138 miles when the property is 38.3 (one way) away from our house and we live right down the street from this office. That would be approx. 76.6 miles. from door step to door step. We drive this route ALL the time and depending on which street we may use to get to the freeway, there is very little variance. The truck was picked up on Saturday and returned Sunday morning, and the fuel refilled to the same amount it was when given to him, he parked the truck to the street in front of the facility and locked the keys in the car. Today he was charged extra for fuel and told he drove the truck 138 miles! I see this as being a bit of a problem. Even if you round our mileage off to 40, one way, that would be 80 miles round trip. So where did the 58 miles go? And why all of a sudden my partner didn't put enough gas in the truck? LOOKS TO ME THERE IS SOMETHING ROTTEN IN DENMARK FOR THE MATH IMPAIRED!! The mere fact that there is a discrepancy in the mileage and then the gas should give someone BESIDES US to question this. We have NEVER had a problem with accuracy, and now 58 miles added on to our bill - I don't think so. BUT ultimately, if they want to lose a customer due to their personal negligence of checking this out - that, is their problem - I say "so long you have just lost two customers" - I guess business is so good you can afford to do this without due diligence or further investigation. ADDENDUM - Marc, thank you for having the decency and being a gentleman in calling James and rectifying this situation. You have renewed our faith in you guys and we will continue doing business with you. Thank you for doing due diligence, which our society seems to very light in, these days. This place change their prices daily one day I went in it was $49 for a rental. Two days later I called today it's 55 for a rental. This place is a rip off. I would not refer marathon car rentals to anyone . He had the never to tell me that they're the cheap place around . I call budget rental it's $25 a day. I called Avis and it's $25 a day ,so I don't know where he's getting his information but he's making prices as the days go by. I was even trying to rent a small compact car . They are reasonably priced & easy to get to (though it is one of the busier intersections - oh and be careful that light is a red-light-camera so you can get yourself a fancy ticket if you run a red light right there). UPDATE (1-26-08) I rent from this place exclusively now. The internet special on their cheapest cars is $21 a day - and if you rent on a weekly basis it's even cheaper. If you live within a couple miles of the location, they also offer pickup and drop-off. ORIGINAL REVIEW Highly recommend! $25/day, even without coupons, in and out in 10min, Independently owned, open 7 days, nice owner. Prius rentals were $79 a day. I usually rent from Enterprise because of their pickup/dropoff service not to mention the 50% off weekend deals - roughly $80 after tax (or so) for a full weekend. Today, a Saturday, I rang Enterprise at 12:30 and found out that they close at noon! Nationwide, pretty much! Found this place nearby on Google Maps. I walked in and got $25/day for an economy car . I was in and out in 10 minutes after having a nice chat with the owner of the place. I love supporting independent businesses as well, so that was a nice bonus here. Independent in this business means they have a bunch of different makes and models - I didn't look closely but I noticed a Prius and a VW Bug on the lot. Most of the economy cars are 2000-ish Daewoos - not anything special, but if you just need a car for the weekend, who cares? read more

The crew at Marathon Car Rental is really great! I had a complimentary rental through my repair shop so I am not sure of pricing. This review is solely based on customer service and a free rental! They picked me up from my repair shop, and drove me back to the repair shop when I returned my car! Both drivers were super friendly and nice...and were also good drivers! I didn't reach for the door handle at all! =) The car I got was a basic Honda I think. The outside had minor scratches but that's almost a good thing when renting a car since there's less pressure when the marks are already there. No, I didn't hit anything; I hardly had the car for 48 hours. When it was time to drop off the car, it was SO quick! Perfect! Then I was driven off to pick up my car. Awesome people. read more

I took a spontaneous trip to LA so I needed a rental car from a place that wouldn't require much advance reservation. I shopped around before choosing marathon, and it was the perfect choice. Nearby rental places like MPG had no cars available and marathons rates were much cheaper than the 699 place. There was no wait when I went in, and the service was friendly and fast. They even gave me my choice of economy cars. I wound up in a Jetta because I had never tried a Volkswagen. Returning the car was super easy, and they were also one of the only places open on a Sunday for return (which is what deterred me from Enterprise). This place is really great, so don't let the tiny lot with metal gates fool you. It has a solid selection of cars, from basic to classy, and good prices with no hidden fees. I love this place! Marathon is one of those secret places that I don't want anyone to know about because I'd rather not share it with people. My mother lives a few blocks away from Marathon so it's always been the place to take out of town folks to rent their cars because it's just so convenient. Our history with Marathon goes back waaay waaay back to like 2006ish when my sister bought a used car from them - a Daewoo Lanos which is still running today, I drove it from LA to Nashville. When the Daewoo came to me in 2009-2010 I brought it to Marathon for service and repairs and the cost was always fair, plus they knew the cars history. Most recently I rented a car from Marathon when I was in Los Angeles for the weekend. The total cost was $81 from Saturday to Tuesday, plus a gallon of gas for a 4 door Toyota Yaris which let's face it, is a major upgrade for me from the Daewoo. They also have a prius and several other boring subcompacts for ridiculous rates. They have some swanky stuff and suvs and a prius also, you're sure to find what you're looking for. They also have the nicest staff and a super speedy and easy check out process. I highly recommend this place if you live in the neighborhood and you want to support something independent. read more

My first time renting a car ever was here (bad credit, finally got better, had a credit for the first time in years blah blah blah) anyway I was kind of nervous about the process and worried about all the horror stories I hear and read about of over charges, nasty cars and terrible customer service. So when I visited my mom this past spring I searched on good 'ol Yelp for a car rental places in CC that wouldn't be too traumatizing. When I arrived at this place I expected the whole process to take at least a half hour, or more. I expected endless paperwork, confusing terms, and the worst. Not because this place was bad, but as mentioned above, my guard was up. In actuality I was in and out in about 15 or less. My car was immaculate. No confusing terms. No confusing paperwork. The guy was a total sweetheart and very patient with my questions. When I dropped the car off I expected it to be a hassle and maybe price issues. Nope. Total process took me 10 minutes or less. Not only that but they offer to pick you up/drop you off for free, but since my mom lives close, I just decided to take advantage of the nice weather (I live in Chicago where the weather is hardly ever nice) and walked back to her house. They're a small (family owned?) business and maybe this is why renting from here is simple. I already booked my next car from them for when I go back to L.A. next month. This place is a life saver. I needed a rental car ASAP because my car broke down and I had a lot of errands to complete before Christmas. I had a reservation at an Enterprise rent-a-car for pick up on December 23rd and was going to return the very next day. This is truly the best car rental service I've ever dealt with. I work with major music artists so renting vehicles is a common occurance. The staff here are very pofessional and always very kind. The owner is here most of the time and is a super honest and very friendly guy. I can call them for one minute and request a vehicle, they will have it washed and ready for me when I get there, the paperwork is minimal and they never try to rake you with extra fees etc The rates here beat any other companies and the service is phenomenal. Referred here by Marina del Rey Toyota while my car was at the dealer for service. They rented me a 2011 VE Jetta with over 81,000 miles on it. The car was slow to accelerate up to highway speeds and should be taken out of service or auctioned off at this stage of the vehicle's life. The car had so many scratches and dings not to mention a bubbly left front headlight and scratched beyond repair wheels/hubcaps. Pros: clean vehicle interior and free shuttle to dealer. read more

These guys know how to do business. What sets you apart from every other car rental? Believe it or not being open longer. What a huge difference! I was trying to find a rental car since my car overheated and my friend was visiting out of town. It was Saturday afternoon and I called AAA to get a tow and a rental but none were open past 4pm. Seriously?? That's prime time you'd think. Every enterprise and hurtz were closed at 4 pm. And I knew I wouldn't make it there in time. So I went on yelp and found Marathon. Thank god!!!!! They reserved a car with me over the phone and I got there right before they closed. I was so received that I was able to get a car since it was my friends last day in LA and we still had fun things we wanted to do that day. It's absolutely shocking to me that this was one of the ONLY places open who had there business together enough to rent a car to me. This company will do well since they did something that no other company was willing to do. Be open past 4pm! Guess where my money goes? Exactly! My car broke down while in LA, towed to a garage nearby, rented a Nissan from Marathon. The price was right except they allow 150 miles per day before they charge a per mile fee. I live in Palm Springs so I paid the excess mileage, however not their fault. The car itself was decent, the service was good. I forgot to fill up the tank when I dropped it off, the workers there were nice enough to remind me. I went to a nearby gas station and filled up. A good business altogether with professional staff. Absolutely wonderful. 10/10 would recommend to everyone. My friends and I were coming from LA Union Station, so originally we decided to try a nearby enterprise, and waited until 8 AM for them to open. Big mistake, and a huge waste of time. Though enterprise tried to be helpful, we found out that they did not rent to under 21 year olds, contrary to the thorough research we had done and what we had been told on their website. It was then that we were most grateful I had done some research on Marathon. We trudged into a starbucks and pulled up Marathon's information. So we called Marathon and a friendly voice told us to take the Metro line to Culver City station, where they would pick us up and take us to the rental office. There, in the middle of the rental process, we found out that our 19 year old driver's insurance did not extend to rentals in his name. I could feel and almost here the thunk as my stomach dropped in panic. We had taken buses and metros all the way from LA Union Station and couldn't believe we were going to face disappointment again. Marathon was extremely helpful however, and faxed an authorization form for his dad to sign, renting the Jetta in his name. When we came back a few days later, we drove up to the rental office and completed the return in mere minutes. Marathon then drove us back to Culver City station in the Jetta so we could catch the Metro again. We didn't even have to unpack all our luggage and lug it into a shuttle first. Absolutely excellent service. This is a rental company who knows how to treat its customers right. When it says that it rents cars to under 21's on its website, they really mean it, and they really do know what they're doing. I was very impressed and so relieved that they had a protocol in place for the case of insurance not applying directly from parents' insurance. My friends and I all emphatically agreed we should have chosen Marathon and its 7 AM opening time to begin with rather than foolishly risk becoming another of the myriad horror stories you hear all the time about enterprise and hertz. read more

I know the other reviews are stellar, but there's only 2 right now. So I just want to throw my review in as well. I've only rented from here once, but I was under 25 (if you rent much, you know how being under 25 will screw you) and they didn't charge me ANY additional fees. What's more, they picked me up and even stayed open a couple minutes past closing so I could return the car. The prices were as good or better than anywhere else I've seen. The lot is small, but clean, and there is a good selection of cars. The car I rented was basic but clean and in great condition. I had a fantastic experience here and I cannot recommend them highly enough. I don't have occasion to rent very often, but you better believe whenever I do I'll be coming here. read more
