Worst rental car experience ever. They tried to charge us $1,500 for a small scratch to the car ... two weeks after our rental return, we were sent a demand notice for the money along with a small, blurry photo of a scratch no more than 3/4 inch long. We ignored it because we looked over the car when we dropped it off with the agent and there were no new scratches on the car that weren't there before. There were plenty of small scratches and dings on the car when we picked it up. Do your research on travel forums. Lots of posters from the US are charged preposterous amounts for small paint 'damage' weeks after returning home. The demand notices kept coming and they said that they would put a lean on our credit history if we didn't pay them. We kept trying to call Sixt ... the US office said we had to call the European office. Emails were exchanged and they would only write back to us in German. It seemed we were getting nowhere in being able to contact someone. Finally, we had a relative who is a lawyer step in and draft a response for us. The next day, Sixt wrote us to say they were waiving the charge. We did not buy their insurance because it was and extra $40/day and our credit card company has rental insurance. It was pretty clear based on a lot of the comments I am reading online that if you are from the US renting at Sixt in Europe and waive their insurance, there's a good chance they'll claim you owe hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a small ding or a small scratch. Beyond that, the car they gave us had the coolant light come on after 3 days. We called their customer service and they were able to give us little help or advice. Luckily, I speak a little French and we were able to find someone in the town we were staying in who could assist us in finding the correct coolant to add. There were 4 different colors of coolant and the manual was unclear which to use. It was stated damage could occur if the wrong one was used. The people at the rental counter were not very helpful at all and gave us a giant gas-guzzling SUV from a brand we had never heard of even though we rented a sedan, which was supposed to include brands like Mercedes or BMW. We told them that we would be driving many miles but they said it was either that or a very basic downgraded car. Overall, we would never recommend renting from Sixt ... nothing but problems and in my opinion, they tried to scam us into paying $1,500 for a very minor scratch which we believe was not caused by us. If I could give it zero stars, I would. Save yourself the hassle of dealing with their unfair business practices and take your business elsewhere. They want to charge us more than $300 for a small scratch on one of the rims which they claim was a "damage" that occurred during our rental period but that can only be described as ordinary wear and tear. When you pick up the car, they leave it up to you to do an inspection and to report any "damages" to them. Which means you have to figure out whether or not any particular scratch/dent should be put on the list. They also don't tell you what they mean by "damages". Probably for a good reason so they can get you later. When you return the vehicle, it's no longer up to you to do the report, but it is a company representative who inspects the car and all the sudden discovers all the "damages" that allegedly occurred during the rental period. They then send you a repair bill that shows a random (and probably inflated) price to fix the "damages". After doing some research on the issue, it appears that this is a common practice and we're not the only customers that are victims of their scheme. I would urge you to read all the reviews before you rent a car from Sixt. I personally will never rent a car from them ever again. It is not worth the hassle and I've already spent too much valuable time arguing with them over what can only be described as a scheme to extract additional money from customers (in particular those who don't buy the insurance they are offering for $40 per day). The car rental business is so difficult right. Is with everything open post Covid. I have a job in sales so I am constantly dealing with travel and rental car problems. I have seen the worst and the best, especially in Europe. It's very easy to dismiss how the demand of rental car affects us but when you are on a family trip every hiccup is amplified. I had pre-paid for a rental at Sixt and my pick up was for late in the evening. This can cause problems as cars always run out by end of day. The Car my family needed was no longer available and Stephanie at Sixt not only accommodated us. It while she was helping me helped two other people in Spanish and French while speaking perfect English with me. She helped upgrade our family due to the inconvenience but did it all with a smile. What was even more surprising is that I found out later she was in her first month at the job so not only can Sixt hire the right staff but train their employees from day one. My family flys to Italy every year and we always book with Sixt moving forward. I hope Stephanie will be there every time. read more

Don't bother ! The have over charged me $250 now and I'm traveling for another week and can't dispute until i get home, The we're rude at the pick up counter and the have a vip section in terminal 1 and the masses have to get outside and wait for a shuttle to terminal 2 were they have to search for the rental car places. Lol lack of concern for your customers makes this a one star place Also we rented a convertible bmw, it was nice as i have one at home, But my rate was changed and my cards have all of these little charges here and there, 2 nights $600 US dollars !!! !?!?!?!?? Rented a car for a vacation in the south of France. Had a lot of issues with flights and cancellations so I had to cancel. Sixt offers efficient and friendly service at its Nice location. I didn't know that they have a Terminal 1 pickup available but Terminal 2 is easy to get to with the new (and free) Tram between the terminals. Drop-off is one of the easiest in the world. read more

They will attempt to nickel and dime you for any tiny scratch... make sure you closely survey the car at pick up and request to have an employee survey the car with you when you return it, otherwise they will claim an "expert" found damage worth "X" amount of dollars and send you a bill days to weeks after you return the car (e.g. way more money than seems needed to make such repair, if a repair even warranted.) When we returned the car, the agent there waved us on just to park and drop the keys in a box. We did not have any collisions/scratches we were aware of at time of drop off. Will not ever use SIXT ever again (despite having previously used in other countries without issue.) And honestly, my car rental experience with SIXT in France has left quite a bad taste in my mouth and though France seems like a beautiful country with a lot of hidden gems to explore, I think I'll favor exploring other countries (AHEM, like England and Germany) before returning to France, which is a shame. Highly, highly, HIGHLY discourage anyone from renting with them. We have rented cars all across the US, Canada, and Europe and this is the only time we have had an issue, and the only time I've bothered to write a review. read more
