YASSSS an authentic Chinese restaurant on the East side! Clearly I'm very excited about this lol. Very happy to have found that the new management of Sizzling Wok offers now authentic Chinese dishes AND dim sum! I no longer have to drive 30 minutes to get my fix! Anywho we came here for dinner and it was a great dining experience. The staff were all super friendly and attentive. Because of the new management and new offerings - they are definitely getting traction of more patrons so please be patient as the staff adjusts to the new volume of business. I was excited to hear that they offered Cantonese style steamed fish (saw this on their IG) and so I pre-ordered this the day before. It was so good and the fish was really fresh - highly recommend this dish! I also like that they give you flavor options of the vegetables. Very disappointed in our dinner. We used to go to Sizzling Wok all the time. The buffet was plentiful and good in the past. Now empty bins. Fried rice was extra and had no vegetables. Sesame Chicken was mixed dark meat and not good. Even the child with us didn't enjoy his chicken. Egg roll good but hot mustard wasn't. Whole meal very expensive compared to what you get. Been coming here about every other week since we first tried the new authentic Chinese and Dim Sum menu a few months ago, every visit has been awesome, trying all the new items on their menu! Our favorites so far have been the salt and pepper fish from the dim sum menu (nice big portion, perfectly fried and juicy pieces of fish, deliciously seasoned), and the mapo tofu with pork from the authentic Chinese menu (beware, you better be able to handle your spice for this dish!), and the egg rolls from their American Chinese menu are a must (big and meaty, served with their homemade citrus sauce). As always the server was great, always checking on us and getting us anything we needed, and the place is always clean and welcoming. The east side finally has great authentic Chinese! We like it better than anywhere else in the city. One note, if you want dim sum or authentic Chinese and you're planning on going on a Tuesday or Wednesday, call ahead, as from what I understand, their new Szechuan chef is sometimes off on those days. read more

New Ownership and significantly higher prices. My son loves this place and has been ordering carryout. Last time food was ok. This time I added onto his order. I got one of their specialties which was supposed to have pork, chicken, beef and shrimp in a brown sauce. It was late as usual - my son said they are always late. I got no pork and no shrimp. Instead I got some chicken, lots of beef and 3 small scallops in the brown sauce for $21.50. They call it the sizzling wonton. I can get a similar dish at first wok for under $15. They filled the container with lots of sauce. I was still hungry after eating and this was a late lunch. Usually I can get 2 lunches out of large dishes. Forget this place. read more

Food was pretty good. It seems odd that there is never anyone there except us whenever we go. The ambiance would definitely improve if there were other people in the dining room, enjoying a meal. Just tried this restaurant for the first time after seeing it on Chowdown! So excited to have an option for dim sum and authentic Chinese food in the Anderson area! They have the best egg rolls and the plum sauce that goes with it is amazing! And the crab Rangoons have a good onion flavor to them that I personally really like. And the shrimp fried rice is really good lots of flavor and love the crunchy bean sprouts! The only down fall about this place is it's extremely over priced.... $3.50 for ONE egg roll.... I've been eating take out Chinese my whole life and even learned to cook it on occasion. I have not tried this place yet so I ordered Hunan Shrimp take out. First of all, the price was quit high. $18 out the door for a moderate sized plastic dish. My biggest problem was in the food. The sauce was so incredibly sweet that I felt I was eating an ice cream sundae, not a fast food Asian dish. There was almost no trace of umami flavor. The shrimp were rather flaccid and look as if they were pre-cooked. The broccoli was soggy and not crunchy at all. I love small businesses and will support them when I can but the quality here was very subpar. If you are a fan of Panda Express Orange Sauce, you might actually like this place. Better take your Metformin before you go. Disclosure, this is the only dish I've ever tried. Their Lo mein may very well be good. I won't be back to find out though. read more

Sizzling Wok is back! My wife and I have been eating here for the past 20 years, even back when they were located in Eastgate. Tony must have had a hard time with the buffet during Covid and apparently decided to move on. We ate here tonight and the food was just as good as before. Thank God they still have the same chef. Sizzling Wok has the best egg rolls in Cincinnati. The buffet is really good and so are the menu items. The staff is nice and helpful. The staff does not just throw slop up on the buffet and wait for it to get cold and bad. They put out enough for the patrons in the restaurant. If there is something that is lacking just ask and they make it fresh for you. I love the food. They use real chicken and real beef instead of the weird processed garbage you find on other buffets. Ok, I give. You get another star back. There is a new hot table, so there is more variety. Also, the quality just seems better than other Chinese buffets. House-made egg rolls are awesome. That is something extremely rare to see at buffets! And their sweet and sour sauce(on the tables is great too). One gripe I still have is that there just isn't enough traffic to keep the food really fresh on the buffet. So the other reviews trying to compare this to the cheaper fare fast food Chinese is not a good comparison. Sweet sour excellent still made the way it used to be made with pineapple and green peppers. Not just the sauce. Great Egg rolls and Spring rolls. And the Spring Rolls are large not like the Taquito type spring rolls at the McChinese type restaurants. Lo Mein was very good. Lots of flavor and vegetables. Carryout was flawless. Order on line and it was ready when we got there. In looking at the other reviews it does seem like something happened between 2016 and 2017 More unhappy than happy. My how the mighty have fallen! I used to love this place and the one in Eastgate. They have slipped far down the ladder. I ordered the Szechuan seafood. It specifies shrimp, scallops, and Lobster. It was mostly some kind of not cooked fish! Nasty. It was a brown sauce not resembling any Szechuan I've ever had. The dinner included a soup and appetizer. Neither were offered. I do not understand how this was voted one of the best Chinese restaurants in the East. The food was so terrible! We got the buffet thinking it would give us an opportunity to try some of their popular dishes, what a mistake! Their buffet consisted of one island of food that had maybe 10 selections, a few of which were things like cheese sticks and onion rings, and another area with 3 types soups, egg rolls and crab wontons. For the price I just cannot believe the quality. It was 12.50 for the buffet. Their fried rice had multiple types of meat, including ham. The chicken was all soggy and the egg drop soup was as thick as gravy. My husband liked the black pepper shrimp, but that was really the only thing. I saw that they have been there for over 30 years and perhaps ordering off the menu is the better option, but I don't see us going back to find out. read more

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday at 12:45pm. There were about 8-10 other patrons, most of who are by themselves, eating alone. The buffet had a decent selection (most of which features chicken as the primary protein, although I think I saw one beef item, and two veggie options). There were 3 soup selections as well. Most of the chicken dishes (sesame, General Tao, sweet and sour) had a ton of breading in it. You could barely taste any chicken. My friend speaks very highly of this place and she usually is spot on, so I had to give them a try. When I went I wasn't super hungry and it's a good thing because by 8:30 when we walked in, the buffet was wiped clean with no food in site. It was as if we walked into a no man's land, and I swear a tumbleweed would have blown through if there were enough wind for it to do so... I felt that we weren't welcome as soon as we walked in the door. The lady who greeted us was nice enough, but it just felt like we were the last customers of the night and had we not walked in there at 8:30 they would be closing early. I've worked in the industry and I don't typically go in before closing, but they were ready to go FAR before we even got there. We sat down and our waiter was hasty to come over and get our drinks, but not friendly at all. Again I felt we were an inconvenience, and with these other reviews I'm reading they may want to rethink that, or they might just run themselves out of business. It sure wasn't a party when we got there and I don't think I'll ever return on my own. For the prices, and lack luster treatment, I will take my money and smile elsewhere. The food was good, hence the two star rating instead of the one.. so my advice, if you're wanting Chinese, order it to go from this place and then get the heck out the door. We checked out restaurants within Yelp, and this one has rave reviews. It was mentioned that the Crab Rangoons were made fresh daily in the restaurant. And the Egg Rolls were also freshly made daily. In both cases, the fillings were generous. They were cooked to perfection too. We chose to get the buffet on our first visit. Everything in the buffet was prepared Beautifully. I especially liked the dessert selections which offered Tapioca, Chocolate Pudding, CherryJello, whipped cream as you like it, and more as well. This is by far the best buffet in the city. Most Chinese buffets are all pretty similar and have that generic "Chinese buffet" taste. Everything on this buffet screams quality. Like it is all fresh made with family recipe not just some generic frozen Chinese food and premise sauce. Everything on the buffet is 10/10 same goes for the takeout.
