Had an issue of a GFCI outlet that kept tripping. The outlet was in a bathroom, but it affected power in the garage. This was problematic today as we have an upright freezer and wine cooler in the garage, and weather forecast for Alameda was 80 today, 90 tomorrow. I called Sid at 7:45 AM--we've used him for years. He answered his own phone, was out in about an hour, quickly diagnosed the problem and installed a new GFCI outlet in the garage. Sid was awesome!! I called him to help me troubleshoot an issue with installing a flood light on my front porch. I initially installed it myself, but it didn't have enough power to operate. I wasn't sure what to do. I was getting about 35V when I measured it, and I needed 110V. Why would I not have enough power?? As soon as Sid looked at the light fixture, he knew these was a transformer that was lowering the voltage for the previous recessed light I took out. Sid was able to remove the recessed can, and he found the transformer/junction box he promised would be there hiding behind the recessed can. He took out the transformer lowering my voltage, wired it back up, and installed my flood light. I tried all week installing this, and he spent 50 minutes. We had planned to move into our house and realized that the electric system in the house needed updating. I've contacted several local electric companies and was told they were all too busy to take us on in a short time (to start in a couple weeks). Sid was working on our neighbor's house when our plumber recommended and reached out to him. Coincidentally, Sid was also the first one our realtor recommended when I told him that we couldn't find anyone. Sid kindly agreed to take a look at our project and gave us his estimate. He fit us in right away and was flexible about adding additional work after he started. Sid (and John) worked fast and cleaned up as they go. He also took care of the permit process and dealt with the city inspector directly so we didn't have to. Sid went out of his way to help us with an old switch that was broken and had to be special ordered. He even helped us install an outdoor stair light that was not in our request due to the safety concern for us. When we had an issue with the humidifier sensor for the bathroom fan, he took another trip to help us fix the issue. Some of these issues might seem small, but they all add up when someone has to drive to our place to take care of it several times outside of the original project time. It is greatly appreciated. Also, Sid is very funny and very easy to talk to. He does not talk down to you when you have questions or concerns. We found Sid on Yelp. We really liked him, his team was friendly and professional. When they were done our living room was spotless. We were so happy I talked to Sid about another project before he left. Here's the reason they don't get a 5 star rating. Sid gave us an approximately cost depending on what he ran into once he started the job. Both my husband and I were home the entire time and assumed that if the job changed so much that it was going to be more than double the price he mentioned to us that we deserved a heads up so we could make an informed decision. We didn't know until the bill arrived, it was a real blindside. Sid is such a outgoing and fun guy I can't imagine him not giving us a heads up. Wonderful service starting with John who was on time and did a great job bringing down my large light fixture from my 16ft. Ceiling ! Sid has worked on a few things in our old house and each time he has done beautiful work in record time!!!! He is always pleasant to work with and very witty! Last time I saw him was a few months ago when he was working on some plugs in our bathroom. We asked him if it was possible to put a light fixture in the basement so that I wouldn't be doing laundry with the light of one dim bulb. He said, "no problem" cheerfully & by the time I had gone to the store & back, he had already finished the original job upstairs AND put in a really great, clean-looking light fixture in the basement! Sid gets my highest recommendation. 5 stars isn't nearly enough. I had a problem with my backyard electrical, and made a late Saturday afternoon call to him. Left a message, he returned my call at around 6:10pm and said he had time to look at it. Sid quickly diagnosed the problem, replacing a part in a difficult location. He crawled into a small space, removed a few pipes that were in the way, and replaced the faulty part. Put everything back together.......and my problems were over. I had a bulb out in one of my light fixtures out back and he was kind enough to give me a replacement he had in his truck. It took maybe an hour to do everything, perhaps a bit longer. Sid was professional, extremely knowledgeable, and just a really good guy. The cost was extremely reasonable. Folks, if you have the need for an electrician, your first call should be to Sid. I told him he is now my personal electrician. He is truly outstanding and I would recommend him to anyone that needs a quality electrician. I had to write this review immediately. The plugs/outlets for my clothes dryer and bathrooms were blown/non-operational over the weekend. Reset my circuit breaker and tried everything else. Would not work. Called SJN on Monday morning. They squeezed me in for 3:30 that afternoon. SID came and looked at my panel, looked around and re-set some switch and everything worked. Showed me how to do it and said nothing needed to be fixed. I insisted that he take some money, he refused. Demanded that he take some money for lunch or gas and stuck money in his pocket. He took it back out and put it back on my shelf and told me to "RELAX!" Wanting to give him some business and make his trip worthwhile, I then asked him to look at my bathroom lights as I want to change them. Gave me a VERY reasonable quote. Will get lights and have him to do the work. Also, asked him if I should modify my electrical system. He advised me to live my life and change it as necessary. No hard sell at ALL! When I lost power in my kitchen today, (on a Sunday) while preparing dinner for my family, I looked up an electrician on yelp and found Sid. I call the number provided but no one picked up at first. In minutes, got a call back and as I was explaining my issue, he was providing instructions on what to do. It turned out that it wasn't a simple fix (like a simple breaker box reset) that could be done over the phone. Within 10 minutes of providing my home address, he was here and ready to problem solve. He seemed super nice, pleasant, and very knowledgeable, and explained everything well. Within 30 minutes, he diagnosed the problem and fixed it. We felt so relieved. Saw SJN's good reviews by fellow yelpers so I called about a fairly large electrical job and he arranged to come to my house to quote a job. First time we agreed he'd make it over sometime the next day but he couldn't say exactly when but he'd call ahead of time. I was OK with that since I was home most of the day anyway. He never showed and never called. I called him at the end of the day and he had some excuse about his truck - he should have called me to re-schedule but whatever. Anyway, he said lets re-arrange for the next day. I was hesitant because I had a busy day and he'd let me down once, but he said he wanted to make it happen so I said ok. He assured me he would be over between 10 - 12. Never showed, never called again. The following day he texts me as if nothing is up and says hey lets meet tomorrow at 1.00pm. At this point I figured he's probably just unreliable so said no thanks. First bad review for SJN by the looks of it so perhaps this is out of character, the guy seems nice enough but missing appointments like that is just bad form. read more

I first met Sid through a general contractor a couple of years ago. I have nothing but great things to say about Sid!
