My experience was disappointing. The employees were rude and yelled at me for putting on my own wristband. Additionally, they had separate skate sessions for boys and girls, which felt very exclusionary, especially since some of my friends are gender non-conforming or nonbinary which I find sexist. The bathrooms were in terrible condition, with large gaps between the doors, and they were dirty, featuring profanity written on the walls of the stalls. The carpet on the floor was filthy and appeared as though it hadn't been cleaned in years, while little kids were sitting on the ground to put on their skates. read more

Extremely rude all of the employees. The guy at the door brush the snow . We're not 10 years old we're adults ! You act like we're going to go on the floor with our boots , get some manners . Today (Sunday 2/13) was my 3rd time going, I also went last night for open / adult night because I am an avid skater, the staff there was super friendly and even recognized me and said they hoped I'd come back in the week! Russ really had the place under control and whether it was a loose bearing or toe stop, they got everyone back on the floor and having fun as quickly as possible! My kids love this place and have had multiple parties here. We always loved it in the past, but if you haven't been recently you should give it another try! They recently renovated. It's updated but still has the vintage look you would want to see at a roller skating rink. You can book online for the party and they provide pizza and drinks as part of the package. I love this part !! One less thing for me to worry about. The staff is helpful and kind and I want to be sure to thank the gentleman that works on the rink keeping all the kids safe. He is incredibly kind and caring. He takes the time to teach kids to skate and you can tell he loves his job. Thank you for making my daughters party a day to remember!! read more

Me and my friends went here for my birthday and did have a nice time staking, but the staff was rude which ruined the experience. One of my friends and I weren't as good as the other friend at skating and my other friend waited ahead and began to skate the wrong way when a worker came up to her and proceeded to man handle her to move the other way when she was totally capable of doing it herself. We waited over 10 minutes for a pretzel that was over cooked. As well as some rules being unreasonable like being on your phone but we were only messaging family. Unreasonable rules and rude staff make a bad time. read more

I was one of the first customers when Skate-A-While opened in 1977. Gene Tamborino was a great business man and made a great contribution to the city of Rome. I skated there as much as I could of, I met some wonderful people like my friend Dennis , from Utica. I became very close friends with a girl named Christene, we skated together every moonlight skate that there was. My good friends Tony Chiluffo I and always went to the rink every Sunday Night , which was adult night for years and years. The rink floor was very good. Large skating area. Nice snack bar area from the looks of it. Door of bathroom kept open I closed it while I used the facilities and the door was opened. I skated along the wall looking for my partner and stop for maybe 30 seconds when a younger female staff member told me to "move along." They decided to do a full song of backwards skate. Not a fan of this super controlled environment. I skate for fun not to skate in such a structure way. I was looking at my phone and an older male staff member told me I couldn't have my phone out. Later we were talking to someone who wrks there but not working that night. He took the time to explain things not just bark at people. All the rules being enforced yet when it was the 18+ skate song 4 kids ages 8-10 were on the floor hugging the wall for more than half the song with a staff member. Not sure why they weren't immediately escorted off the floor and allowed to linger as long as they did. I drove over 47 mins to see if this was going to be a indoor skate option as we approach winter but sadly I was not satisfied by its offerings. It's a shame too. Not many roller rinks in NY anymore. I'll drive to the old rink in Fulton before I return here. read more

Was at a bday party last week, walking in smelled must/mold, walking out smelled human urine. Bathrooms disgusting, only 1 stall in womans worked. Handsoap watered down completely. Worst experience ever! Wanted to try something new with our 3 elementary aged boys, so hit up family night. Should have known when a staff member shoved my youngest while we were waiting in line just so he could get by. After 30 minutes, we finally got to the entrance and the employees there were not any more friendly. They were short and condescending. Once buzzed in, we went to grab our skates. While engaging with the attendant, another employee interrupted and yelled at us for not having our wristbands on. It was then difficult to put our skates on, as there was no space to sit (this area is too small for the amount of people they allow in). After finally getting situated, we went to the rink. None of our children had skated before, so they were using the wall. I thought this would be fine, as they were still out of everyone's way, even for how busy it was. But multiple times they were harassed by staff. Then, the DJ started giving instructions. Announcing girls only, backwards only, etc. If you couldn't skate backwards, you were told to sit out. But there was no place off the rink to go, so again, we were accosted. Why would a family skate be structured this way? So at this point, only 50 minutes in, we decided to leave. The owner came over to see what our issues were. He was defensive, aggressive and made continual excuses for his staff's behavior. We will never go back! read more

They yelled at me for putting on my skate and using the wall to help me there food here wants to make you wanna get sick there food is old and stale. They are mad rude. The ceiling looks like it's about to fall down. It is always cold. And they threatened I kick me out for putting my feet on the wall, when I was just trying to put my skate on I would not recommend coming here read more
