If I could give negative stars, I would. We rented a tux for my son's prom. They were very nice when renting (although very gossipy, dressed very casually (jeans and hoodies) and talked about other customers--this should have been a clue). An hour into his prom, he was walking up stairs and his pants split at the crotch--humiliating for him, he was made fun of, and created an emergency for us to take him pants from home. When I looked at the pants, they were extremely worn and looked like they should never have been rented and you can easily see why they split. When I spoke to the staff upon returning them, they were rude, disrespectful, unempathetic, and told me I had to pay for the pants because they didn't go out the door ripped and we didn't say anything when he tried it on. They even went so far as to say that I should have inspected my son's crotch when he tried them on. They took no responsibility for renting overused items that would be prone to ripping (they blamed the warehouse, but wouldn't take ownership for the fact that the warehouse is also part of Skeffington's), acted like they couldn't see the wear and that 'nobody else had this problem, so it must be your son's fault'. They told me all pants look like his, so when I asked them to show me, I saw a brand new pair of pants with no wear and said they didn't see any visible wear on my son's pants (see picture). Given what happened and what it costs to rent a jacket and pants ($150), I shouldn't have had to pay for the pants rental, let alone get told I had to pay for over-rented pants. Because I refused to do that, I was told I could no longer be a customer of Skeffington's (a non-issue). I'd much rather give my business to a company that rents quality merchandise and backs it up with professional customer service. read more

This place had nice workers, but overall it was very stressful to rent from here. Going straight to the warehouse is definitely the way to go. I was in town for a friend's wedding. The groomsmen had to go in separately because of covid, so none of us really saw how the others looked. If we had, this would have immediately showed me that my suit, pants, vest, and dress shirt were all too big for me. However, I only had the worker's opinion. He was flustered, clearly in a rush to get to the next customer's appointment, and so he said everything fit well. Because I was a bit hungover from the previous night's festivities, and because I haven't tried on many tuxes in my life, I apprehensively took his word for it. Side note: I live out of state and had to get my measurements done elsewhere, so this was probably the original issue. However, as I met up with the groomsmen later that day, they told me that their suits were all slim fit and, if anything, were a bit tight. This is what I thought mine was going to look like, too, so I decided the next day to go in and see if I could make some changes. On the day of the wedding I went in as soon as it opened to see what they could do. Ironically, another guy was right in front of me saying the same thing: he tried his on yesterday and it seemed kind of big, but he was given the okay. When he went home, he tried it on again and he confirmed what he thought. The same worker gave him the same bad advice. I know the guy was in a hurry, but how the customers look should be his main focus. He was nice enough, so I'm not saying it's all his fault, but get the guy another employee to help or something. The worker told us that they had nothing in stock and we would have to go to the warehouse in south Des Moines. This was bad news for me because I had to be at the wedding venue in just a couple of hours. I borrowed a friend's car, got there as fast as I could, and was immediately helped by a younger guy who knew what he was doing and actually seemed to care about how I looked. Dude was so polite and fast, and he gave great advice and explanations. Just go to the warehouse. It is worth the extra drive. PS--this place also forgot to include the jacket in one of the groomsman's tux bags. The groomsman was pretty silly to not check when he went in to try it on and didn't notice, but still. Come on guys! They were nice enough to deliver it to the venue, however, and didn't charge him for the jacket. read more
