Super fancy interior and there was a small orchestra trio playing in the dining room. The menu was super cute and the server would explain everything in detail. The first time I came here was on a work trip and I ate at the bar with no reservation, just walked up for tea and petits gateaux. It wasn't as picturesque. Sketch is all about the experience. There's been a lot of hype about this place in the past few years, and I'm here to tell you that Sketch delivers. The food may not be top tier all the time, but the ambiance more than makes up for it. --- The food: we came during the holiday season, and received the seasonal menu. The food is broken up into four "courses" + you can get refills on anything on the pastries/sandwiches stand, as well as unlimited pots of tea. Course 1: eggs drumkilbo. This is delicious! The egg is hollowed out and made into an almost saucelike texture. It's served with a side of caviar and a langoustine jelly, which I didn't think I'd like as much as I did. Course 2: sandwiches/pastries. The sandwiches were fairly good -- although I personally am not a huge fan of cucumber, which featured pretty heavily in two sandwiches. The pastries were a bit of a hit or miss for me. I absolutely loved the macarons, but the cheesecake was a little lackluster. Course 3: the scones. OMG THE SCONES. I wish I had proper words to describe how GOOD the scones were. They were served warm (literally steaming when I broke mine open) with a side of clotted cream and jam. SO GOOD. Course 4: a slice of Yule Log cake. I will never not be a cake fan, and happy to say that Sketch delivered. ---- Alright, now that that's said and done, onto....the ambiance! All I can say is the atmosphere is for Sketch is amazing. There was a ballerina that came in to do a live performance. There was a live orchestral trio that played for at least 30 minutes. My boyfriend and I were constantly wowed, and I couldn't have asked for anything more from afternoon tea. --- The service was great as well! Our server wasn't as attentive as she could have been, but she was incredibly nice and there was always someone we could flag down if we needed anything. --- TLDR: Sketch is a splurge, but (to me) it's worth it. My husband and I are on our honeymoon and chose this restaurant as a special date night and are so glad we did! Upon arrival we were treated with the upmost hospitality. The restaurant was beautiful and unlike anything we have ever experienced before. We both did the tastings menu and shared a bottle of white wine recommended by the sommelier. We were constantly checked on and explained each dish. The menu had a wide variety of foods, many of which I have never tried before. The staff also sent us links in an email for other foods to try during the rest of our honeymoon. They also gave us a tour after our meal and we got to see the famous bathrooms! Solid 3.5 experience! Ambiance (5/5): Wow, this restaurant is absolutely magical. I don't think I have ever dined at an establishment with a unique avant garde vibe. Their bathroom is a must see, you will be blown away! They also have different rooms throughout the restaurant, each with their own theme. Service (5/5): Our server, Marco, was extremely attentive and honest. When we asked for his suggestions he didn't push the more expensive dishes on us, which we appreciated. He checked up on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed. On top of that, the food came out in a timely manner. Food (3/5): Their food and cocktails were average at best. Nothing really stood out. We ordered the scallop carpaccio, roasted venison, and artichoke heart. The scallop carpaccio was extremely gritty and almost tasted like we were eating sand. Additionally, it had zero flavor. Our server was kind enough to remove it off the bill and recommended that we try the grilled scallop instead. This dish was served with a pumpkin puree and we thought it sounded enticing so we agreed. Unfortunately, the dish was extremely underwhelming-- it's almost like they tried too hard to be creative with the pumpkin puree. Quite honestly, it did not pair well with the scallop and for $56 USD it most certainly was a waste of $$$. The venison was not bad, it came with a cabbage salad that we enjoyed and the artichoke wasn't terrible either but again for the price point we were expecting more. The food at Sketch was severely overpriced and underwhelming at best. Overall, we have been to far better restaurants across the globe and the food at Sketch was not as creative as we had hoped it would be. We loved sketch! First of all the ambiance is so beautiful and there's so much cool art in there. The bathrooms were also so futuristic haha it was really fun to just see. The service is incredibly! My friend and I did the high tea and we also got some great cocktails with it. I didn't necessarily lovee their food (it's high tea ya know tea sandwiches, biscuits were ok), but I think you more so go for the experience and tea. Of course, we had to stop by the iconic Sketch gallery. While we're not usually fans of the actual culinary aspect of afternoon tea, Sketch is an immersive, wonderlandesque experience with its four courses (an 'egg' with caviar and toast; tiers of pastries and sandwiches; scones; and a chantilly cake which can be taken home for those who, like us, were absolutely full). The pastries and sandwiches can be refilled if you were a fan of something in particular; we didn't have the stomach capacity to take advantage. Sketch is an excellent choice for fine dining in the London area. Each section of this establishment houses a different ambiance and aesthetic style. There are a number of offerings: breakfast, lunch, dinner, bar, afternoon tea, etc. Just think about the time of day and how hungry you are, Sketch will provide! I was impressed by the kindness of the hosts, variety of offerings, live music, and the blend of art, architecture, and food. Upon entry to Sketch, I appreciated there being hosts present to greet and provide direction to guests, especially since Sketch is a rather large establishment divvied up into separate rooms/experiences. One of the hosts started conversation with a greeting and an inquiry for any dietary restrictions or allergies (much appreciated!), though we had none. We had a brief conversation after that, which set the tone for the experience. Honestly, when employees seem genuinely happy to interact with guests, beyond simple pleasantries, I take this as a positive first sign about the establishment itself. As someone visiting London for the first time and wanting a selection of tea to try, my partner and I booked a reservation for Afternoon Tea at Sketch. We were able to try four different teas during our two and a half hour window. I recommend the Jasmine Silver Needle and Blackcurrant and Elderberry, especially if you're a fan of fruity or flowery flavors. Plus, the aroma of both is an added bonus to the experience. The assorted sandwiches, petits gateaux, and scones gave me many a smile. Salmon and ricotta sandwich, yes please. Apricot eclair, delicious. Raspberry battenberg, beautiful and tasty. Scones, so rich and buttery. Of the variety, I did not enjoy the Redcurrant and Chocolate Macaron (the texture was not smooth or creamy, which I have come to expect from macarons), Cucumber Sandwiches (not enough cucumber and unfortunately, quite flavorless), and Citrus Tart (dry and hard - my teeth said no thank you). The live music was excellent. I could not imagine anything better suited to an Afternoon Tea session than a live string trio playing covers of famous songs. Ever since the release of Bridgerton's first season, my partner and I have made a game of seeing who could be the first to "Name that Song!" He won, again. Some of the songs played included Running Up That Hill (by Kate Bush), Mr. Brightside (by The Killers), and There She Goes (by the La's). Finally, if there is one thing I ask that you do when attending Afternoon Tea at Sketch, it is to use the restroom. Seriously: Get ready to be transported to another world. I enjoyed the afternoon tea experience overall, but there are a few things you should be aware of before you book. First and foremost, they allow dogs. Their policy is that the dogs should be small enough to fit in a handbag and they should remain in the handbag or be leashed. When I was first seated, I noticed a dog at the table next to me running around the owner's feet. Our table was extremely close so it was a matter of time before that dog was near my feet, so that wasn't happening. I am not paying near £300 for afternoon tea to have a dog running around near my feet. To their credit they immediately found me another table when I said I wouldn't sit there. Next, you should know that this is a lively, energetic place. It is not the usual calm, serene, relaxing atmosphere that is typical of an afternoon tea venue. There is live music, quite loud, and we had a performance by a ballerina, so music to accompany her dance, so definitely a lively atmosphere. Now here is something I have never seen anywhere. I get the bill, and they have added £1.25 as an optional charity donation. They add it to the total without asking. Yes it's optional but now I have to recalculate the total. They don't give you the option to add it. They include it and dare you to remove it. That is rude and presumptuous. What is this charity? How do I know if it's something I would support? More importantly, where do you get off adding something like that without my consent? It really left a bad taste in my mouth. If you want to donate to charity, use your own money. Their service charge, again automatically added to the bill is 15%, higher than the customary 12.5% that is charged throughout the city. Now on to the food. I had a Yunnan tea that was excellent. I asked if they sold it in the gift shop, but they don't. If they had, I certainly would have purchased some. It was outstanding. The sandwiches were excellent. They had a warm croque Monsieur kind of sandwich which was a nice surprise, as warm sandwiches are not typically included on a tea tray. The coronation chicken had a beautiful presentation of a decorative slice of jelly on top. Very well done. They were also very accommodating when I asked to switch out the egg and salmon sandwiches as I don't eat either of those things. Scones were ok, a little bready for my taste, but not terrible. The pastries were hit or miss, one was pretty good, the rest I didn't care for. They actually looked prettier than they tasted. High marks for presentation. Overall a good experience, but I don't know that I will running back any time soon. read more

Imagine a grown up tourist themed attraction, with low quality tasteless decor and really poor non-memorable food. It is more marketing buzz than substance. The food was dry, cold, and tasteless. From the moment you walk into the place, you know it's special, with its nightclub-like entrance to the spectacular Lecture Room and Library dining room. And the parade of dishes hasn't even started yet. ...and what a parade it was. First of all, when visiting an acclaimed restaurant and while going over your options, your server says, "...and this is where we shine," you go with that option, right? That's what I do anyway. I took her advice and went with the a la carte experience. Presentation at every step was a delightful artistic display of wonder. The "welcome" array of amuse bouche was such a surprise as they laid it all out before me... 6 dishes including a vodka treat that arrived in a martini glass. The bread board that arrived offered three generous loaves, but the star of the moment were the three butters, specifically the salted whipped brown butter. WHIPPED BROWN BUTTER. Why hasn't anyone else done this??? Pure genius. The next 5 dishes that arrived (yes, I said 5 dishes) were actually my favorite of the night, particularly the generous and beautifully prepared foie gras and an absolutely gorgeous dish featuring snails... incredibly savory and comforting! For the entree course, I decided to try something new and ordered the grouse. I'd never had it before and assumed it would taste like duck or goose. Alas that was not the case - it was much too gamey for me, and I simply couldn't eat it. So the wonderfully gracious staff offered an alternative - the turbot - and it was divine. The next six items represented the dessert course and offered quite an array of unique flavors and textures. The tiramisu was outstanding. Was that all? Not quite... more sweet bites followed, and they made for a beautiful way to polish off an extraordinary dining experience. The hype is real. I wish I could rate the service separate because the staff was impeccable... but the food was THAT bad. As someone said earlier, I can see why influencers or a pretentious crowd would love this place as the decor is over the top and the service is on the borderline of smothering. However, I am for the food first. We had the 7-course tasting dinner menu. There were a couple dishes like the duck that were pretty good but overall there was nothing that made me say "Wow I need to come back for this.." Some dishes just did not have flavor. By the 4th course I was ready to call it a night because the flavors just did not marry together. I wish I could have just cut it short because the dessert course was the worst. I actually almost could not swallow it... one dish tastes like old perfume. The others once again the flavors were just not complementary. The "tiramisu" was the best of the dessert and it barely had any flavor or sweetness to it... but it was palatable. I don't understand how this place got the 3-star rating frankly.. even the presentation of the food was not always uniform. It took around an hour for our drinks to come and a little more for a salad and burrata which are cold so I didn't understand why we needed to wait so long. It seemed like the tables near us were served food at a quicker pace than we were. I got pasta which was fine but my sister got the popcorn chicken which was warm, borderline undercooked chicken curry with pieces of actual popcorn sprinkled on top. It seemed like a joke. This was certainly the worst dinner of our London trip while also being one of the most expensive. The server reminded us that their a la carte menu is where the chef really shines. However, the options were too vast and just too confusing for us to choose. Therefore, we opted for the tasting menu. The first little bites were great. It's amazing how they can pack so much flavor into a tiny bite. New flavor profiles I haven't tasted before just surging through your tastebuds. Most of the dishes were executed perfectly. Located in a fashionable area off covent garden, sketch had the most incredible themed rooms depending if you're there for dinner, cocktails or tea. Upon entering you're greeted by a hopscotch outline and an awesome coat checking station for your bags. The tea room is plush, pink, and surrounded by modern/pop art. They had love violinists and the tea sommeliers walk around in top hats and pink outfits. The waiters are so kind and add a flair to anything they do. Ours overheard we were celebrating a birthday and made sure it being out a treat(also let me keep the Sketch menu as a favor) The food is to die for and you're offered unlimited tea & sandwiches . I personally chose this place for the decor and the savories ! We chose the £77 champagne the (Rosé), which was nice but I was so stuffed I probably could have done without! Me and some friends came here one morning for a birthday breakfast. We were sat in the breakfast parlor which is shown in the pictures. The room was really cool and the best part of the meal. The atmosphere- both decor and music was pretty good and ended up being a good place to just hang out. Make sure you look cute because you'll want to take some good photos here. We split a bottle of wine, macarons and a charcuterie board. The only reason I'm rating one star down is because the charcuterie board is not worth 20 pounds. We then ordered our tea. Our first course of egg soldiers and caviar came out. That course ended and our tea still hadn't arrived. We waited another 15 minutes and they brought out the tiered tray of sweet and savory pastries. Still no tea. It took almost 40 minutes to even get our first cup of tea. Not a good look for a thing called "afternoon tea". We then got our scones. They came out cold so the cream didn't melt and it was just...messy. We had to wait another 10 minutes for our next order of tea. Overall way too much waiting on the thing that brought us there to begin with: tea. I loved Sketch! My friends and I had afternoon tea at the Gallery. The first thing we noticed was how pink, vibrant, and lovely the room was. The artwork on the walls and the live quartet added a nice touch to the atmosphere too. I must say that the four teas I tried during my time here were all absolutely amazing. I'm still thinking about them to this day! My two favorites (First Romance, Ceylon & Rose) were both black Sri Lankan teas. I was mesmerized by the intricate flavors. Regarding the food, I was more impressed by the savory items than the sweet ones, but really appreciated all the effort and detail that went into the presentation and variety of everything offered. I came for afternoon high tea and thought it was quite enjoyable. The place is known for being Instagrammable and it shows. Random people who are not even eating here will come in for photos. The high tea room is in the pink room named for obvious reasons. The menu is broken into different pre fixed choices. Basically it's the basic high tea plus champagne, plus rosé, or plus mocktails. We opted for just the tea. Once you've ordered, a tea master will attend to your needs and help you with your tea choices. You can always change your choice at a later time so don't feel pressured. The caviar will come first. Then the sandwiches. You can get a free refill of any sandwich you like if you decide you want more. The caviar is of course not free. Pro tip: you're supposed to use your fork and knife for the sandwiches. Bring the brute Americans we are, we knowingly used our hands. No one said anything and we only noticed it afterwards. The staff here is very friendly and attentive. They have live violinists and cieloist playing classical tunes for your enjoyment. And of course, you have access to the famous egg bathrooms from this room. You go through the double door in the back end up the spiral staircase to what can only be described as egg shaped pods. Once inside, think glamorous porta-potty. It's kept very clean and of course, lots of photos are being taken. The price of the tea experience is not cheap. Ambiance, service and delightful food. This place has it all. The building itself was a masterpiece with plenty of art wherever your eye may land. The sommelier poured a delightfully creamy bubbly almost behind her back; which was a spectacle to watch and was quite impressive. The gluten free tea was every bit of what I'd hoped for, with one of the savory items a little lacking on the tray... the flavor was off so I'm not sure what it was supposed to taste like... All in all, this was the most posh and aesthetically pleasing tea room we visited. An excellent experience over all. read more

My party and I overall found the food here to be a disappointment. The onion ring tower is a spectacle, but as we went down the tower the onion inside was uncooked. That may be intentional, but not to my taste. On our visit there was also avocado and raw brown shrimp and raw scallops dish. I had high hopes for clever flavor, but really all there was to taste was just the basic flavors of the main ingredients. The souffle' however, is to die for! That was well executed and a flavor memory forever. My partner enjoyed his sole, but my Irish lamb saddle was nothing of note. I was not familiar with the saddle cut so I specifically asked my server if this cut was well-marbled. She assured me it was. Nope. This cut is more like a filet. Cut it across the grain and it's very tender. Cut with the grain, it's about as tough as shoe leather. The brown sauce was completely bland. Oh, they forgot to bring our drinks until after serving the appetizers. They apologized, but one would prefer to have had the drinks first, particularly as they were a little pushy about getting them ordered. We found an English cabernet on the menu that we tried to order. The server discouraged my partner from doing so and said she'd send over the sommelier. No sommelier ever came. We did give the dessert menu a look, but nothing seemed particularly appealing in light of what had gone before. As a place to IG away, oh yes! Spectacle unfolds as you walk in. Five Stars there. The dining rooms are visually interesting and one can hear oneself speak to one's dinner partners. Do take a trip to the bathroom to wash up before supper. If you've been to "that thing in the desert" you'll recognize the vibe. Would I go back? If I read that the kitchen had gone through a shakeup and service was tighter, absolutely. In the current climate places deserve a second chance. read more

Maybe the coolest restaurant we visited. The room for afternoon tea is really something else. Live music is perfect. Pretty decent amount of food here although everything is obviously very small. All prix fixe. Good sized champagne menu. If it isn't obvious, this place is expensive. Be prepared so shell out $$$$ especially if you're drinking. Would like to come back for lunch or a drink in one of the other rooms. read more
