The flower display takes your breath away and I loved dining in the Alice in wonderland like room. Unfortunately the food was not as good as the ambiance. My husband's duck was very rich and salty. But to be fair the waitress did warn us. We were also sitting next to a service door so my husband's chair kept getting bumped into. For the prices of the dishes we expected a bit better service. The concept of the 5-branch restaurant aims to capture the magic of a great meal, appealing to elements of the fantastical. And that is why my experience at Sketch, Lecture Room and Library was wonderful, yet extremely bizarre (in a good way). My family had a reservation for The Lecture Room at its opening hour, so we were the first customers to dine for the night. The six of us were led up a grand velvet staircase by a woman in French maid attire to double doors: the entrance to the most secluded part of the restaurant. Like a well-rehearsed play, the curtains opened and two identical groups of waiters in uniform, lined up at each end of the doors, turned to us, smiled, and in near perfect unison greeted us with a "welcome in." It was eerie, being the only customers in the restaurant for a good half-hour. We felt watched; seated at a long rectangular table, we were outnumbered by waiters, and if we were having a private conversation about let's say, wine for example, not ten seconds later three waiters would present us with an extensive list of sparkling, reds, whites, and rose. It was so quiet you could hear every inhale and exhale; a pin drop would equate to the sound of shattered glass. Everything about the service at Sketch was theatrical, which is exactly what you pay for. I had ordered the dessert cheese plate which I thought would be similar to the size of a typical charcuterie board and next thing I know, eight massive desks of aged cheese are wheeled into the restaurant, which you can only imagine how that made the restaurant smell. The whole ordeal made everyone burst into laughter and will be the reason why Sketch gets a 5-star review for impeccable service and entertainment. read more

I was dying to try this popular place in London. I had always seen pictures but had never been. If you ever visit london or live in London you need to try it. The entire place is crazy honestly it is so beautiful. It is such a unique place. I believe there are three different rooms you can eat in. The rooms all look better than one another with different themes. The decorations in the entire place is beautiful. Not only are the decorations amazing the waitresses are dressed for the theme. We even saw a performance from a lady dressed as a ballerina. It was truly such an amazing experience. I do have one tiny complaint the menu is very limited and unique. It is very unique and different therefore I feel like some people might have a hard time ordering. The lunch menu seemed the best for me and my family. We ordered both croques, the potato gnoochi, the side salad, and desserts. The desserts are different we ordered a lemon poppy seed dessert, a raspberry blackcurrent macaroon and a cherry dessert. Nothing sketchy about Sketch! As soon as you walk in to the high tea room, you feel very comfortable. Great ambiance w/ live music and colorful pictures on the wall. And yes, the traditional pink wallpaper for high tea! If you're looking for that great high tea experience, then this is the place! -Loved the champagne high tea! My favorite tea was the fruit punch. So flavorful and sweet, you don't even need sugar or milk. -Incredible pallet, best sandwiches were the coronation chicken and the truffle stick. Although sketch's ambiance and sense of magic is enchanting, this quite possibly may be the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Aside from my own personal dislike for every dish I was served, the people I ate with also described the food as "uniquely gross." Our waiter was incredibly rude and exhibited every trait that goes against the restaurant's so-called "value" of hospitality. He had a demeaning personality and was inattentive to our needs. Additionally, he added an undeserved extra fifteen pounds to our bill as gratuity for himself. But, the food and tea is less than that -- it's located in the equivalent of Times Square (NYC) and it's definitely a tourist trap. After seeing this restaurant on Instagram, my girlfriend and I decided to make a reservation here a couple of days before our stay in London. Once we read reviews off here, we decided to go with Afternoon Tea at the Gallery. Visually, the space is beautiful. Upon entering, it's dark, quiet, and you'd never guess that the inside of this restaurant has whimsical themed rooms inside of it. Inside the Gallery, the walls are full of art, placed upon pink walls. Pretty much everything in the room was pink, but it wasn't anything overwhelming. The waiters and waitresses were dressed in suits and costumes while a couple of violinists played every few minutes. Of course, you'd have to visit the washroom - it'll likely be the most interesting one you'll ever visit. The ambiance of the restaurant was busy, but enjoyable. In terms of the food, it was pretty decent. We went with the cheapest option possible, giving us endless amounts of tea. We both opted for matcha and chai tea, which you can't go wrong with. What I didn't know is that if you enjoyed any of the cakes or sandwiches, you could ask for more at no cost. I was delighted to find this out because I assumed that I'd only be given the portions given initially! When looking at photos of the food from reviews, I thought I would be hungry leaving, due to the portion sizing. I can tell you that I left full, and satisfied. If you're interested in eating at Sketch, I would definitely recommended having Afternoon Tea at The Gallery. If you end up doing so, make sure you take many photos! A must-visit when in London! We loved the food, the visuals, and the overall experience. There are actually several rooms with different menus inside of Sketch. We made a reservation for late Saturday dinner at Sketch - the Gallery. Note that it is good to make reservations in advance, especially on weekends. Food: We ordered the porcini tart, beetroot carpaccio, roasted scallops, and mallard duck. It all tasted interesting and was presented aesthetically. The price was a bit steep, but it was well-worth it for the quality and creativity of the dishes. Ambiance: This is where Sketch is special in its namesake for artistic expression. The Gallery is highly photogenic with its pink walls and furniture and original artwork. A DJ was also playing in the evening and into the night. Other rooms at Sketch look drastically different with each having their own theme. Make sure to visit the restroom before you leave as well. It's unisex, and there are futuristic pods shaped like eggs. Sketch was consistently packed during our visit and had a long line of people waiting to get in for the cocktail lounge since it was a Saturday night. Service: Service was pleasant, but a little slow due to how busy it was. Overall, dinner at Sketch - the Gallery was a very memorable experience. Oh Sketch, why is there nothing like you in San Francisco? I've never felt quite so classy and girly in my life and I loved every minute of it! ~Decor~ While visiting one of my favorite gal pals in London we stopped in at this wondrous spot. Come to Sketch if you're looking for a luxurious British afternoon tea experience. The design of the interior is definitely the highlight of the restaurant. The theme of the Gallery room is pink with plush seating and live music. I suggest skipping lunch (and maybe breakfast) on the day as there's quite a lot of food in the afternoon tea set. I really liked the first course which is a cream cheese and egg mixture with toast and caviar. The second course is the three tiered cakes and sandwiches. While the sandwiches aren't mind blowing they are definitely intricately prepared. I really liked the foie gras tartine and the eggs truffle gougere. Our server also offered to refill some sandwiches for us! We then finished off with some warm plain and raisin scones and more cakes from the trolley. Don't forget to save space in your stomach for the yummy scones! Food aside, what I love here is the huge and quality tea selection! I've tried a good three quarters of them but I always go back to the Ceylon & Rose and the Ceylon Black Tea for the strong dark base and slightly sweet and fruity notes. My second time visiting London, I decided to make a reservation for Sketch for a friend and I. We booked the 7am breakfast at the parlour. I don't suggest coming here on an empty stomach like we did because the cost to benefit ratio will not suffice. We both had the French toast and the portions were ridiculously small. My second afternoon tea in London and it was perfect and more than good! I was a bit worried about this place at first but I was disappointed at all. In fact, I'm always careful about all these trendy places where, sometimes, it's trendy, it could be nice but the food is not good. Went here for high tea and the place is beautifully decorated. Each room has a different theme and all are equally stunning. High tea was about 90 £ at the time per person. They started with an adorable quail egg and caviar to open the palette, followed by scones and jam, and then the finger sandwiches. Loved every piece. When you arrive, the walls are all covered in very modern and beautiful art. If you are looking to come here, I would highly suggest you make a reservation prior to coming. We came over a weekend and reservations are super important as they were people being turned away at the door. We ate in the Gallery Room that night, which has it's high and vast ceilings in a beautiful pink, with matching furniture. The walls are covered with vibrant and witty art work- the whole ambiance is a lot of fun but still very chic. The food we ordered was delicious and there are a lot of healthy options to pick from. The menu is also very cool, it looks like a modern cullinary pop up book. Make sure you remember to order some cocktails as they are very tasty... they have a few bar areas and each room is decorated vibrantly and differently- it's a visual feast and it's no wonder Sketch has some Michelin Stars under its belt. Had couple refills, which is complementary along with the tea. I ordered the blackberry herb tea and the color and taste was just so me, pink! I adored this place! This was my last stop during our 6 hour crammed day trip in London and it was one of the best part of the day! Not to mention that my online reservations weren't showing up in their system... I was literally about to have a fit if we weren't able to experience it. The place I found was Sketch and I couldn't wait to go. At the entrance is a hopscotch so you can hop your way in, me being uncoordinated thought it best I keep both feet on the ground lol We walked towards the hostess desk for the Gallery to be shown to our seat, and when we walked in the gallery, I knew this was going to be a great experience, beautifully chevron floor, lush velvety pink benches and chairs, white linen tablecloths, soft pink walls, funky hand painted art on the walls, it was everything I expected it to be but so much more, and that's just from walking into the room, the experience just kept getting better. Service was impeccable, everyone looked sharp in their uniforms. We did the afternoon tea for 58 pounds. It came with unlimited choices of teas, I wish I remembered the names of the teas, but I did try a vanilla tea and Darjeeling black tea (one of my favorites). The afternoon tea comes with a lot, we started out with caviar and quail egg and cheese bread, next a beautifully presented tray came decked out with little finger sandwiches and sweets, everything was too pretty to eat, but don't worry, I did eat them. My favorites were the chicken and egg sandwiches. And we learned the sandwiches are unlimited, what? That's crazy! Then we were treated to warm scones with fresh clotted cream and fig & strawberry jams. Is there anything better than a warm scone with fresh cream and jam? I think not! We were only on our 2nd course after 2.5 hrs, partly because we were waiting 40 minutes for our second round of coffee/tea. This is also by far the most beautiful restaurant I've ever dined in. The waiters and waitresses are very knowledgeable about the food, don't be afraid to ask questions or drink/food combinations.
