We were in London for a day so afternoon tea was a must. Easily landed on Sketch for our experience. It's a set price pp and comes with unlimited tea and little bites. You have the choice of adding a glass of champagne for a little extra. We were on vaca so duh champagne. I really enjoyed the variety. We came in for afternoon tea after seeing many high reviews. The first dish had many lobster shells left in it. The pastry stand was far too sweet for our tastes. We overheard the two tables next to us also commenting that there are too many sweets and left without finishing. The waiter rushed us to leave saying there is a two hour limit, but we lost a lot of time waiting for food and service. The stand with our food was left sitting on another table for at least 10 minutes, so we assumed it was for the people across from us. This place only gets an extra star because the ambiance was nice, and some of the teas were good. The bathrooms were unique, and there were violinists and a ballerina dancer who performed briefly. All in all, I'm really not a picky eater, but this just wasn't my taste at all. Trying to pick just one place for afternoon tea was a real challenge, but after seeing photos of sketch's pink room and restroom pods, I felt like sketch had the extra oomph/je ne sais quoi that made this the place to take my friends on our first trip to London together. We booked one of the last afternoon spots before they transitioned to dinner service, and while some Yelpers recommended it, I don't think I'd do it again. Staff become pre-occupied with the change and became less focused on the remaining afternoon guests to refill tea, get slices of cake, or to even give us the final check. There is quite a lot of tea to choose from, mostly black teas, but also green, oolong, infusions, and white; they also come from far-flung places like India, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Iran and Egypt. I've gotten pretty caffeine sensitive so I decided to stick to the Nile Chamomile and Whole Rosebuds (both were delightful choices that blended well with all the food that was served). The amuse bouche was our introduction to The Caviar Man in a dapper pink suit who spooned sturgeon onto our plates next to a 63-degree egg yolk and comte cheese mornay sauce and soldiers. Absolutely delicious! We had an assortment of petits gateaux: peach cheesecake, guanaja chocolate eclair, strawberry tart, lemon marshmallow and red fruit battenberg. Beautiful in terms of presentation but nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, stood out for me and I am a person who, nine times out of ten, will choose sweet over savory. The plain scones with clotted cream and assortment of jam (strawberry and poppy, and a blackberry, blueberry and earl grey) were also just alright. The biggest disappointment, though, was the traditional Victoria sponge. Maybe it's just my weird American taste, but I do not like dry cakes and this cake was close to being included on the menu of the next space flight. At this point, sketch was in three-star territory, but two things bumped them back up to a four: 1) The sandwich spread: coronation free-range chicken (malted bread, pickled red onion, free-range chicken, coronation mayonnaise, thyme); egg gougere and watercress (gougere, watercress, egg mayo, dijon mustard); asparagus and pea (white bread, asparagus, peas, mayo, red amaranth flower); salmon, cucumber and ricotta (white bread, salmon roe, smoked salmon, cucumber, ricotta); and, the truffle croque (white boncolac bread, cream cheese, black truffle). The truffle croque was my favorite for, well, the black truffle, and a close second was the asparagus and pea sandwich. Unlike the selection of sweets, the savory sandwiches had character and were worthy of seconds and, if only I had less shame, thirds. 2) Most places pay lip service to accommodating allergies and/or dietary restrictions, but sketch goes the extra mile. One of my friends does not eat pork for religious reasons and sketch gave her a separate array of sweets and sandwiches that would be free from gelatin and other non-halal ingredients. I was very impressed by this and grateful. I don't know when I'll get another chance to visit London, but sketch will definitely make my list. As an American, I don't do afternoon tea often. This is a mistake. The crowd skewed female and also attracted men that were with or hoping to be with women. There were violinists performing instrumental versions of pop songs in the corner. The walls were adorned with African art that was influenced by Pablo Picasso. The bathroom, with fisheye mirrors, egg shaped toilet pods made you feel like you were on any type of psychedelic. The food was ok, honestly not that impressive. Sketch is DELIGHTFUL at Christmastime -- there was a trio of violinists, and they hired a ballerina to dance in the aisle! Our server, Marco, was just as delightful: his hospitality, kindness, and professionalism were remarkable. They went out of their way to accommodate any dietary restrictions we had, and when they found out it was the second time my friend and I had been there, Marco brought us a little tart with a candle in it welcoming us back! If you're looking for afternoon tea, I'd probably look elsewhere, we had a "Sketchy" experience. I was really excited to eat at Sketch. The decor was hip, modern, and cool! The bathroom alone made the trip to the restaurant one to remember, but just being a "cool" place doesn't excuse numerous transgressions. I waited forty-five (45) minutes just to have a couple extra finger sandwiches delivered. I could have walked to Fortnum & Mason, bought some of their sandwiches, and walked back in the time it took me to get finger sandwiches from Sketch. No less than four times did we ask our server for them and each time both of them said, "We're sorry, they are on the way." When I bit into the pistachio cake, the first bite was great! The second bite was a painful like biting on a pebble because they failed to remove a cherry seed! Yes, I bit down on cherry seed. Have you ever bitten something hard and not expected it? Perhaps an olive seed, or maybe a fish bone in your trout? At least with olives and fish, I tread carefully. I didn't tread so carefully because I was eating cake. I received an apology from the restaurant and they said it's never happened before. Thanks. I guess that makes my jaw feel better. They had an opportunity to provide some extra customer service and fail short. The variety of finger foods was mediocre. The food looked great, but the taste wasn't on par with what I'd expect. Even my lunch companion didn't care for several of the selections. The visual appeal was there, but the taste fell flat. It was like taking home a girl you'd think was an absolute "ten" from the club at night, and then waking up with a "four!" I have no problem helping charities, but they automatically added £1 to my bill to their charity of choice. Why don't you have the balls to ask me if I'd like to donate instead of sneakily adding it to my bill? Maybe I would have given more, I tend to be pretty generous, but if you try to sneak it in under my nose then you are deceitful and despicable. This review is for sketch's afternoon tea located in The Gallery aka the very pink room. For starters, this is a great place to go if you're looking for trendy, photogenic, "Instagrammable" or just a generally aesthetically pleasing environment. It is beautifully designed and feels almost magical. Live music was playing throughout, the staff is well dressed, the rooms are intricately decorated and so on. Located in the heart of Soho, sketch offers tea time 7 days a week. A reservation is practically required so if you plan to come make sure you book through their website prior to arrival and days / weeks in advance. The afternoon tea is a bit pricey compared to other options across London, it came out to $85 in American Dollars after required 12% gratuity and the pre-fix tea menu. Keep in mind though, you are paying for the experience and if you are visiting London I highly recommend you get a chance to enjoy the establishment. The tea menu is fantastic, it is extensive and includes teas from all across the World. You have the ability to try every single one of them (which according to my waitress, has yet to be done). I started off with the Tropical tea which was perfectly balanced with a underlying fruity taste. I followed that up with the Chai which was absolutely delicious that I had to get a second pot! The meal begins with a spoonful of cavier, a whipped cream cheese & quail egg and a small piece of cheese toast. They follow it up with the traditional tea time tower which includes deliciously handcrafted pastries and tea sandwiches. We also received scones with clotted cream and jam and ended the meal with a piece of cake. I found out after the matter of the fact, that the food is endless so if you enjoyed one part of it you can always ask for more which is very nice especially with the amount you're spending on dining. Lastly, you must stop in the bathroom to check out the "egg shaped" stalls...they are very cool! Overall, a unique twist on afternoon tea. The group of 6 I was with made a reservation roughly a month in advance of our visit. There is a fee per person if you don't show up for your reservation and you have to submit your credit card in order to make the reservation. Upon entering the restaurant we were taken but the whimsical nature of the restaurant. We were promptly shown to our table where our waiter walked us through the different types of teas and gave me a vegetarian menu. Most items are preselected for the tea so there isn't a lot of variety other than choosing the type of tea you want and if you want to add in champagne. One of my coworkers and I opted to add champagne and it was a small glass for the high price. The food consists of 5 courses so be prepared to be there for a while. They were moving through the courses very slowly so realize that you will be there for a while even a bit after the scheduled reservation end time unless you ask for them to bring out courses quicker. The food was good but not amazing. Some of the items on each plate were a bit odd. My favorites were the savory sandwiches. Was a bit disappointed with our experience at sketch. We had dinner in the Gallery late on a Sunday (10:30 PM). We got to the restaurant around 30 minutes early to have some drinks since they have 3 different bars. We went to the first bar immediately on the right when you enter. Was not feeling the vibe tbh. Very loud club-like music that just made it seem like this whole place was trying too hard. The drinks were alright. At 10:30 PM, we left the bar and went to the back where the hostess was standing. She told us our table wasn't ready yet which I found bizarre. We waited until 10:45 PM before we were seated. Once seated, the server came over, introduced himself, and said that he would need our orders within a few minutes since the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes...... okay... very confused why they have a 10:30 dinner time if they're that concerned about getting food out in time. Thankfully we had looked at the menus online ahead of time and knew what we wanted. We placed our order for 2 apps and 2 entrees right away and asked for some still water. About 5 minutes later, our entrees arrived. Then about 5 minutes after that, our first appetizer (Mac and cheese) arrived -- it was probably the only thing we truly enjoyed during dinner. Still no water, so I asked again. And 2 minutes later, our second app arrived (bread and butter, though the bread was v stale and hard). I asked for tap water again (A THIRD TIME) and the server apologized and said he would bring it over. The icing on the cake was that my ravioli had a hair in it -- my SO noticed it. After that, I lost my appetite. It takes a lot to make me ask for a manager since I know every restaurant has an "off night" every now and again, but we were very disappointed. The manager was very nice -- he offered us complimentary dessert, removed the ravioli from the bill, and the service charge. I appreciated his efforts which is why I rated this as 2 stars instead of 1. Also, I lost count of how many girls got up from their tables and went to the bathroom with their phone in hand to take pictures of the egg pods... very silly. I think it says something when the "coolest" (?) part of the restaurant is the toilet. But overall, I truly wish that we had skipped going here and gone somewhere else instead. If you live in London, it may be worth coming. But if you're from out of town and have a limited number of days/nights in your trip, I would skip this place. read more

What an amazing place! I was looking for a nice but fun afternoon tea restaurant on my trip to London, and sketch was recommended to us by a few people, so we decided to check it out. This place is nothing like you've experienced before, it's so beautiful! My husband is allergic to almonds, so they bought him a separate tray filled with almond free pastries. I still dream of their tea sandwiches and little pastries. We went through almost an entire bottle of rose becuase it was so delicious! Can't wait to go back the next time I'm in London, it is however on the pricier side. We ended up spending around $550 pounds, but it's worth it for a once in a life time experience. read more

Hard to rate, food wise - it was fine but really really overpriced. The atmosphere - loved the bar area but the restaurant is not as grand as I had heard and was hyped. Yes it pink and pretty but the walls were just lined with large art that wasn't all that pretty or inspiring, just unusual but more something I'd expect at a fun place rather than a dress to the nines place.. or as we were told, "art smart" is the dress code. I got the veal ravioli and I did eat alllll of it as it was enjoyable. But the starter salad was salty and not good at all. The desert was just average at best, not sweet chocolate which is fine, but the filling or layers were just not something I enjoyed. The price for 3 people is the equivalent to $345 US. Shocking seeing as we didn't order wine or anything like that. The bathroom is listed somewhere as the "most photographed on Instagram" okay so it's really unusual, but also just odd with the rest of the setting. Birds chirp while in the egg shaped stall. Men and women wander looking for one not in use. Just odd, and yes cool in a way but I don't know what else to say here. I know they say the experience is part of it, but this just wasn't my thing and I could have spent that money and time on many other cool places to see in London. Sketch was on my must-visit list when I came to London. I had seen the photos on multiple platforms and was worried it wouldn't live up to the hype. Sketch exceeded my expectations from beginning to end from the caviar to the multitude of teas and petite sandwiches. High tea at Sketch is a must. Service was great and we definitely did not feel rush compared to the other reviews written here. Of course the ambiance definitely lived up to the hype and obviously got tons of photos everywhere. Have you ever seen a place online and gone to visit only to be disappointed? I have countless times, and I can't be more thrilled to report that this place not only lived up to the hype, but exceeded my expectations. My sister and I got a reservation several weeks in advance for afternoon tea. I was excited to go get the classic space bathroom 'gram, but was a bit wary of the high prices. You can't really go to England without doing a proper tea, so I sprung for the place that caught my eye so long ago and crossed my fingers that it would be worth it. When we arrived and were seated in the gorgeous pink room where a string trio was playing. The whole thing was almost too perfect! I ended up doing the gluten free tea, and I couldn't have been happier. You are able to get as many of the pastries and sandwiches as you want, and the tea just keeps coming. My sister and I sat and talked for three hours and probably 6-8 pots of tea. By the end of our time at sketch, there was no doubt that it was worth the money. The waitstaff was kind and very informed, the scenery was perfection, and the food and tea selection was top notch. Not to mention, all the rooms to explore and take photos in. At the time of writing this, there are currently 746 other reviews of Sketch on Yelp. As everyone has said, the food is great, the tea is great, and the decor is incredible. I came during the Chelsea Flower Show, so everything was extra-decorated and the menu was floral-themed. Instead of repeating what everyone else has said, here are my tips for your (highly-recommended) tea at Sketch: -Make reservations ahead of time. As a party of one, I was unable to book on the website. I booked for 2 and then emailed them to adjust my reservation. They had no problem accommodating a single diner. -When you make a reservation, you can inform them of any dietary restrictions or allergies so they can tailor your menu to your preferences. -Go for a later booking (3-4:00) so you can take your time. People will not be having tea after you, so you won't be shuffled out. Plan for at LEAST two hours. I should have allowed more time because I ended up having to rush out for an evening event. -You can ask for more of anything. More scones, more little cakes, more tea. When they brought me cakes from the trolley, I couldn't decide between the options so I took two. No regrets. -You don't have to dress up, but you might want to. I'm sure you could wear jeans, but I suggest dressing up at least a little bit. Eclectic is also recommended. You'll fit right in. -To reiterate what others have said: Americans, eat the sandwiches with a knife and fork. It is the polite thing to do. -Don't make dinner plans. This is a LOT of food. -Try as many teas as you'd like. Be adventurous. If you don't like the first one you get, they'll bring you a pot of something else. I really loved Sketch. As a designer I love to doodle and draw, naturally Sketch caught my attention because of the Gallery art and pastel pink decor. While in London, I knew I had to stop here for a tea party, since I first saw the gorgeous interior that resembles a Wes Anderson movie set of the Gallery, and the bathroom of individual giant egg shaped potty's with bird sounds once inside, resembling Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: Space Odyssey from yes, an Instagram post by Kimberly Gordon of Selkie & Wildfox. All about the aesthetically pleasing presentation and tasty. It's not cheap, but it is worth it, particularly for a birthday or date ideal, very charming. I arrived a bit early so I had a cocktail in the lounge, also cute lots of neon as I awaited. I went for afternoon tea, I had the Oriental Beauty Tea, which was subtle and complimented the sweet deserts, pastries and finger food sammiches. speaking of design, the menu was adorable, and tells a story of each course, and item. The plates may seem small but I was full by the time the cake came out I could hardly eat it! favorite sandwhiches were my favorite. Worth every penny for its unique experience. I got the afternoon tea at the Gallery. Food wasn't eye-opening but the presence of scenery and detail to the end-to-end experience from online reservation (eerie but beautiful website design) to dining, coat check, and washroom (diptyque candles lit in corners) all together created a lifetime of an experience. Also the fact that it was unlimited refill on pastries and sandwiches made it great. Next time I'm in London I will definitely go back to get my dose of inspiration and definitely check out the other dining rooms! Is it a bit overpriced? Arguable. Is it an amazing experience for the senses? Absolutely. Staff is always kind & knowledgeable. The tea sandwiches are incredible, including the veggie versions. Coronation "chicken??!" Delicious. Seriously, just try it. The Battenburg cake changes flavors seasonally, this time we had Orange and it was incredible. And I don't even normally like orange flavored anything. Again, just try it. The sommelier is helpful, if you want to try an English sparkling wine, which you absolutely should. The 2010 Breaky Bottoms was delightful and a pleasant surprise. Also, in case you have been in a cave for the recent bit of time, use the washroom & take your camera. read more

While in London we had dinner at Sketch - The Gallery. It was a beautiful spot, the atmosphere was definitely a big part of the restaurant. The staff were very attentive and came to check-in with us if we need anything pretty often. Though it was difficult to hear, a couple of the staff were quiet so it we did have to ask them to repeat themselves a couple of times. The drinks and appetizers were great, we ordered the Bavaroise of sand-grown carrots with aged balsamic vinegar and it was delicious. For my main I ordered the asparagus risotto, the risotto texture was perfect and overall I enjoyed the dish. One minor criticism was that I did find the dish a tad bit salty and as someone who enjoys salt it takes a lot for me to notice. Overall though we had a great experience and the food was very good. We would have checked one of the other rooms if we had time but had to head out for the night. When you walk in it's very whimsical. We sat in the gallery room. There are a lot of people walking around and attending to tables, almost too many it at some points. The chairs are uncomfortable and heavy and mine wobbled so I had to ask someone to switch it out. I ordered oysters and scallops. It was unfortunate that they can't make any changes to dishes as I would have preferred the risotto but with some additional protein. The oysters were presented well, with dry ice, but were too large (I prefer less meat and a hugger salinity) and had an unnecessary slab of butter on each. The frozen mignonette they came with though, amazing. My scallops were mostly raw except for a seared top and the sauce they came with was good. I'm happy we got the bread as I would have left hungry but the bread was neither warm nor was it soft and the butter was hard and nothing special. Pros of sketch: - this place is pretty much all about the interior, which was beautiful and very Instagrammable for sure! If you're looking for the all pink room, it's the Gallery. - the glade is the forest room. - the parlour is the room in the front. Very cool wallpaper and neon signs. - caviar man is a really cool touch. Man walking around in Millennial Pink suit and top hat to give you caviar. - champagne girl was also a fun touch. She pours champagne really dramatically like a waterfall, holding the glass and the bottle way above her head. Everyone turns to watch, quite the fun experience! - unlimited choices of tea - we swapped teas 3 times - everything on the menu is unlimited, except the caviar. - the eggloos are actual loos (toilets). So fun to walk around up there with the technicolor ceiling. - surprised by the string trio playing in the gallery - wonderful touch Cons: - the upstairs was gated off with paper clips, would've liked to explore that. Food/Drink: I already knew coming into the restaurant that this place is known for more of its interior than it's food. I was pleasantly surprised to find my food rather delicious. My partner and I ordered the fish course for two, which is the halibut served with seaweed, greens, and an amazing lobster sauce. The fish was fresh and when dipped in the lobster sauce really elevated the taste. Surprisingly I was full after only that one dish! Price: this place will definitely put a dent in your wallet. After all, aesthetics doesn't come without a price. The fish course for two was £28 per person which was the cheapest option in the menu, to give you an idea. The bread and butter alone was £6.50 which is considerable for only 3 pieces of bread. Atmosphere: of course the main appeal of this restaurant is the aesthetics made popular by social media influencers. Their most famous and most photographed room is the Gallery, an all-pink room that makes you feel like you've entered an art noveau world. The bathroom is also highly photographed with its egg-shapes stalls. The service is excellent and drinks are highly encouraged. Tips: BREAD COSTS MONEY!! Yes, this is your aesthetic grammable spot you've been seeing all over Insta. It really was everything I was expecting it to be... with all the various themes, intricately designed and decorated rooms, and of course the bathroom. Seems almost magical when you walk in and tour around the entire space. You're going for the experience, so I wouldn't expect it to be affordable haha, it's pretty pricey. But worth it if you're a tourist in London. My only con would be that the service is kinda slow... if you have a tight schedule, then I'd recommend allowing a little more time at this stop. read more

You can still have a full on conversation while the live music plays. They're generous with the number of teas you can drink. Try many! Perfection in concept! What a cool and upscale place for a sweet 16 birthday party! Of their several rooms, we stayed I. The Edge, a forest themed dining area with a fantastic and intimate setting. The wine was choice as was the 3 course meal. Look, let's face it: the restaurant is made for a certain "strata" of people. But, it does tend to diminish a bit when you see it. The concept is crazy cool. The food was very good and the wine list Lady Grantham would have approved of (Ending my sentence with a preposition). Frankly, the place was very, very cool. The concepts were out of this world and worth going to see. The bathroom was worth it by itself. I loved the attempt and the concept. It beat the shit out of anything states-side. After living in London for about 2 years, I finally visited Sketch. I wanted to do dinner here, but the reservation specialist was super confusing about times to eat, so my group decided to just get drinks. The front of the place is not assuming and you wouldn't think there would be so many rooms, but there are about 5 areas with different functions: +The Gallery (Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Dinner) : The most popular room known for its famous pink room, bougie afternoon tea, and beautiful food. +The Parlour (Breakfast, Lunch, Cocktails): Pretty drinks, chic neon glow display surrounding the room +The Lecture Room & Library (Lunch/Dinner): Michelin rated meals and probably the most pricey area. I haven't been to this part, but I have friends that enjoyed their meal but it was ££££ or if you convert it to US currency, it was $$$$$$$$ +The Glade (Breakfast, Lunch, Cocktails): Forest themed area with glowing lights on the ceiling and disco ball esque lights creating the sense of enchantment. +The East Bar and Bathroom Pods (Drinks/Pee/Poo/Vomit/Pictures): There's a bar under the pod shaped bathrooms. They probably don't want people knowing this, but if you just want to take a picture in the bathroom, just go to the East Bar and then you can take pics with the famous IG bathroom. The bathroom/east bar is located right behind these white doors to the right of the Gallery (pink room). There are so many IG THOTs (That Ho Over There), so if you want a picture, you might have to wait. Additionally, there is a maid that is constantly cleaning the bathroom, so just make sure you don't step everywhere as she weirdly mops and dusts off people's footsteps. I have been to 3/5 of the rooms for drinks and can say that it is quite an artistic experience to say the least. Every room has a different cocktail list - non alcoholic mocktails as well, the staff is super nice, there's a free coat check, and the bathroom is seriously out of this world. My favorite room is the glade because it feels fancy, but also casual at the same time. This place is kind of overpriced and this is an IG model's dream place, but overall, I really enjoyed my time here and would maybe come again just for a drink. 3.5 stars because it is a bit gimmicky and the crowd is not my scene, but I really couldn't complain about my experience! read more

Amazing experience. When people ask us about our trip to London, Sketch always comes up as one of the highlights. The finger foods were amazing, the staff was helpful and charming, and the tea was great. The interior of Sketch was breathtaking, to say the least. The art on the walls was explained by the server as soon as we sat, as was the flow of high tea. It was much needed, because as an American I am oblivious to it. When the food came, it was presented wonderfully, and described by each of the people that brought it. You're allowed as much of anything you'd like, save for the champagne or wine, which is an extra cost. That's fine, because that's not what you're coming for. All in all, a lovely experience, and I would highly recommend a visit. Make sure you eat as many of the chicken sandwiches as you can. read more

I've been stoked about going to this place for the last two years, and when we finally went I was definitely not disappointed. The atmosphere was more than I could imagine, the vibe of this upscale modern ultra lounge feel bar but yet a upscale dining experience was something I've never seen before. Me and 4 of my closest friends all mostly just for pics and a few cocktails came out and even the food was great. Ordered lamb chops with a side of truffle Mac n cheese. It was phenomenal. read more
