Early afternoon the wind was completely gone and I asked one of the lift operators if they planned on re-opening the upper mountain and he stated they sent the lift operators home. Granted it was a week day, however I took a day off of work and spent a ton of money with their greedy prices to only ski a small part of the mountain. Showdown ski resort is fairly priced (probably too fair) and not too far of a drive.

Hooray for The Base Camp and their phenomenally trained staff. Expectations exceeded! The people were knowledgeable, looked up information when I couldn't find the exact thing I wanted, offered to order something not in stock, but could get from their store in Denver, and then let me explore other inventory. They also made it clear I was under no obligation to buy what they ordered if I changed my mind. No deposit, no restocking fee. Nothing. Available for answering questions, the employees didn't follow me around the store like I was going to steal something (well, maybe one person did on my second visit), give unsolicited commentary on every item I picked up, or attempt to drag me to every other similar, and more expensive, item. As my trip gets closer, I'll be back here to pick up those last minute miscellany. And, because The Base Camp has things for every type of outdoor adventure, it'll be an easy stop without the big-box hassles for future trips.
