Last Saturday the ministry I work for came in and volunteered at their "clothing store" to help…read morethose affected by the Los Angeles fires, and it was amazing! I had never heard of this place before but it's truly an amazing place! The name is very fitting for the amazing work that is done here. Their store was filled with brand new items (many popular brands) fitting every style and size. They also include necessities such as backpacks, shoes, toilet paper, etc and the rule is YOU CAN TAKE AS MUCH AS YOU NEED! Usually there's a limit but not here, they provide you with trash bags and you can take as much as needed. They also have an area for groceries, toys, hot food, and so much more! It was truly amazing working here and seeing so many families being helped. There were so many volunteers and so much resources being passed out, I've never see anything like it. I recommend this place for anyone who is having a tough time, facing homelessness, job loss, etc to seek this place out. They also help with finding housing and schooling. Such a valuable place to the city of Los Angeles!

I have been a homeless disabled veteran in the so called skid row area of downtown LA more years…read morethan I care to recall. There are other faith based missions all of which I recommend because government help only goes so far. When these Christian nonprofits reach out with assistance it goes far beyond feeding and sheltering them from the rains--it touches the inner spirit which needs healing from known and unknown causes. I have also used nearby secular based "missions" that I do not recommend because even though they shelter homeless persons from the elements, they participate in such enabling practices as encouraging sexual promiscuity in the distribution of free condoms. I encourage anyone who wants to volunteer to reach out and serve because these faith based missions are highly dependent on volunteer assistance because most of them accept no government funding to my knowledge.

When I lived at PATH, I was there for two years. I could have stayed longer, but over time, I…read morestarted feeling mentally and emotionally uncomfortable because I was going through some serious internal struggles. Around that time, someone bought me a ticket to visit my adopted daughter--someone I had longed to see but never got the chance to. Despite everything, my experience at PATH was one of the best shelter experiences I've ever had. There were so many kind and caring people there. Of course, it wasn't perfect--I also encountered a few staff members who didn't seem to have the best attitude about their jobs, which made certain moments unpleasant. But at the end of the day, a shelter is still a business, and good customer service should always be a priority. Still, I truly felt at home. The Christmas parties were beautiful, they gave us an abundance of clothes, and the food--honestly--was the best I've ever had at any shelter.

Zahn Center provides 90 days of emergency housing to 18 families in need of an immediate, safe…read moreplace to stay while they get their lives back on track. I started volunteering to do arts and crafts with the children at the center last summer through LA Works. I have always left with a smile on my face. The children there are adorable! The staff is super friendly and very appreciative.
