We came here to rent and the process was fairly easy. You put in your information on the computer and there is a person who helps you with your skis, poles, etc. My husband got boots already and it ended up being $149 for the season to rent the skis with the return date of May 1st. And for our daughter, rental would be $119. The person helping us was very friendly and a world traveler, so it was enjoyable to chat with him as he got us step up. would recommend if you plan on renting skis for the season. read more

If you are a skier or boarder, this is the place to get fitted and buy boots. I have been buying my ski boots from here for ages and have sent dozens of friends and fellow riders here as well. They have certified pedorthists on staff and wont just sell you a boot to sell it. They stand behind their work and any issues or tweaks needed are addressed without charge for any ski/snow boots you buy from them. The do custom foot beds, alignment and install and support heaters and accessories. The service is always friendly, knowledgeable and efficient so your time off of the slopes is used effectively. After all, who wants to waste time in a shop when you could be out making turns. Tell them I sent you, you wont be disappointed. read more

We rented two bikes for two days from Basin Sports and had a great experience, start to finish. We bought lift tickets for Killington Bike Park but are mountain biking newbies so we didn't know the first thing about what kind of bikes to rent, sizes, etc. I found Basin Sports online, read the positive reviews, and called them a few days before our trip. The gentleman was quick to recognize what we needed and reserved two bikes for us over the phone. They were ready for us when we arrived and he gave us a quick riding lesson in the parking lot, which turned out to be extremely helpful. To top things off, when he realized that our car wasn't big enough to carry both bikes and we were going to make two trips to our rental condo, he even put the bikes on his car with a bike rack and got someone to drive the two miles to our condo with us following! Their prices were a bit better than others (and much cheaper than renting at the mountain) I called but the friendly service was worth even paying a premium. I would definitely return to Basin Sports for my next bike or ski rental. read more

I was referred to "Teepee Tim" by a Killington local and am so glad for that. I'm an older but still aggressive skier and Tim found just the right boot for me. He spent all the time necessary to explain current boot technology and put me in the right level of equipment with custom footbeds. I bought bindings here and when I brought my skis and boots back to the shop so they mount them I asked if they could make them as tight as possible. My first time out I could tell they weren't tight enough and they started clicking on every turn. I showed them the clicking sound in the shop and instead of making them tighter they said I needed new boots. I fixed the clicking with a screw driver myself when I got home. Less than helpful guys in the shop and on top of that they're know it all's. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.... plenty of good shops at killington. read more

I rented a road bike for the day and the staff was great. Very helpful and nice, pointing out a good ride and tips about the bike. I even got my mountain bike tuned up and the tires replaced while I was out biking. They have a large selection of winter gear, which was on sale (we were there in the summer ... hence the road bike rental). There were serious Swiss and European brands I'd never heard of (the kind not usually sold at TJ Maxx or even REI) on sale. I should have asked what to do when I get passed by a peloton of older guys (who were checking out the bike I rented) ... do I catch up? do I pass them? hmmm. read more

A fantastic experience! I was bringing a group of 16 to Killington for some midweek skiing/snowboarding, and we needed rentals. A lot of them. Enter the crew from Basin, who graciously offered us a 15% discount for renting with them. We arrived at 8:20 am and were out of the door at 9 - fitted, paid, and entertained. The guys working the boot/ski fitting were a riot, and at the same time educated the newbs of our group about how to wear their ski boots properly (a nontrivial task). The equipment itself was excellent - Salomon boots and K2 skis, well tuned and sharpened edges. I don't think anyone complained about overly loose/tight DIN settings. Usually the return process can be a nightmare (especially when everyone is tired and wants to gtfo/ram mexican food in their face) - they were super quick, and had a dedicated staffer help us while tending to the other customers. No idea what happened when the poster below visited Basin. In any case, Basin Ski are a wonderful group of people, and we look forward to renting gear from them in future years. read more

Fantastically helpful staff and a very good selection of rental gear as well as items for sale make this an excellent place to visit when you're looking for ski, bike and other sports needs. I've rented demo skis and road bikes here, and purchased custom-fit ski boots. The bootfitters spent approximately an hour with me, helping me try on so many different models I lost track. I've been skiing on my boots for about 8 days now and they are fantastic. Prices are competitive. I wish they would get a few items in plus sizes for their women's ski and bike wear (but as far as I can tell there are no brick and mortar stores with a decent selection of plus-size technical clothing, aside from REI in some case. It definitely sucks when you're up on the mountain and need something. So far I've had to find some long underwear and padded bike shorts; for the long underwear I had to buy something a bit too small that I've since replaced, and in another I bought men's padded bike shorts which don't fit super well and don't have the padding exactly where I need it, as you might imagine (at least they were on sale for less than $30!) read more

Andrea and I came in here to rent skis a couple of weeks ago. I did a bit of whining about the rental boots, which weren't outstandingly comfortable for me (no shock--I'd never skied in a boot that didn't hurt my feet). After talking a bit with the folks in the rental area, they convinced me to go upstairs and try on some boots. I'd been wanting to get my own equipment for a while anyway, so they didn't have to do much convincing. They said they had the best boot-fitting department in the Killington area; I was a bit skeptical, because of course they would say that. However, my personal experience with them was definitely good--if there are better ski boot fitters in the area, they're really quite good. I talked to Rand a bit. He measured my foot in a couple of different ways, and picked out a few boots he thought would be close to my foot's shape. One set of boots really seemed to fit nicely, and after a bit of back and forth, I decided to buy them. The price was okay; I'm pretty sure I could have saved fifty bucks if I went somewhere else. But the reason I'm giving these guys the five stars is how it went after the sale. First, they tried to talk me into getting custom inserts before I left the store, but I was skeptical that I'd need them, and wanted to try the boots without. The reason they gave was that I have high arches, which is certainly true. So Andrea and I skied a day at Killington, and had a really good time, but my feet weren't entirely happy. The boots definitely fit me better than any rentals I'd tried, but they weren't completely comfortable. So I decided to get the custom inserts; we went back to the shop, and this time Ray did most of the work, because Rand was off for the day. Ray got out the machine, used it to measure the contour of my foot and shape a rubber insert appropriately. He also wanted to do some modifications to the boot to make more room for my ankle bone, where I had a bit of chafing from the day's skiing. He said to come back in an hour or so. He warned me that it was a busy time of day, so it might take longer than that, and that turned out to be the case--we had to wait around a bit when we got back. This is a consequence of the amount of attention they give to people--Ray was completely focused on the person he was helping, and so were the other two people working. When he was done with the person he was helping, he came right back over to me and gave me the same focus, making sure the inserts fit and giving me advice on how to buckle the boot properly, so that it would hold my foot but not squash it. And he used a plumb line to check my stance, and did some adjustments to the boot with an allen wrench, which actually made a huge difference. I didn't get to ski again until the next week; that day Andrea and I decided we wanted to demo some skis we were interested in, because there was a big sale going on (it's the end of the season, everything must go, etc.). Basin had both models I wanted to try, and both models Andrea wanted to try, so we went back, and I got the Fire Arrows to try out in the morning. We skied about five runs together, and my right arch was absolutely killing me, so we decided to take a break and try another set of skis (no extra charge). I got a pair of Atomic skis, and Andrea got her skis, and we went back and skied the rest of the day. I had no further problems with my feet. I had a great time on the Atomic skis, and decided to buy them; when we were done with that transaction, I went upstairs to talk to the boot guys; Rand was there, along with another guy whose name I didn't get. They listened to my tale of woe from the morning's skiing, and decided to use a machine they have there to measure my stance. It's a big sensor that you stand on, and it measures how much pressure is coming down across a broad area. Even though it was my right foot that was hurting, they decided that the main problem was with my left foot, and they adjusted the shim on the left a bit. Then they made a minor adjustment to the shim on the right, and adjusted the boot a bit more. So we got to ski again the day before yesterday, and I had absolutely no foot pain at all. This is a real revolution for me--I've always enjoyed skiing, and just endured the foot pain as part of the experience. It's quite surprising and nice to be able to ski without any pain. The reason I told this long, involved story is that I suspect a lot of people who have foot pain from skiing don't know what sort of process would be involved in doing something about it. There was a substantial time investment involved in this process. But the outcome has been really fantastic. Everybody in the boot shop at Basin took their time and made sure that I got the fit I needed. There was never any sense that they felt I was wasting their time, or being a big complainer. They just made it happen. read more

I was in desperate need of new ski boots and received a recommendation to go to the basin ski shop. the prices are not the cheapest, but they more than make up for it with the service and making sure that I got the absolute right product for my needs. while fitting my boots, both salespeople that I worked with introduced themselves and asked about my needs. they did not pressure me into a better model and explained exactly what to feel for in the liner and boot itself. once I landed on the right boot, she also added in some extra support around my shins and heel to make sure I had the ultimate comfort. she also helped to provide recommendations for how to tighten them throughout the day and the season. after discovering that my bindings were too old, I realized I was in the market for a new pair of skis. I am a beginner, and the salesperson actually steered me away from the more expensive intermediate model to ensure that I would be on the skis that were right for me. I really appreciated that the experience was all about making me satisfied, rather than making a sale. the selection is deep in jackets, gloves, bags, and other ski accessories, and the end of season sales are fantastic. read more

I've been to Basin Ski Shop twice in the last two years, for each of my trips to Killington Resort. First off, the equipment is top notch! I'm very new to skiing, and Basin understood my concerns so they helped me with a shorter pairt of skis and some tips for the mountain too. Secondly (and the best part) is the courteous, friendly, and helpful staff. They are what make this place so awesome. They are efficient so I was in and out super quick, and they were nice as anything, making me feel comfortable and taken care of. If you need a pair of skis and poles, a board, a helmet, boots... this is the only place you need to go to. They get my highest recommendation. read more

Incredible customer service. I emailed to inquire about preordering a new snowboard. I received an email that same day and the person even offered their own personal email in case I had questions over the weekend. That is unheard of and I appreciate that level of service. We went to Basin Sports because it was one of the closest shops to Snowshed. The employees were generally very friendly and professional. They are a little pushy in trying to get you to buy additional things like ski socks. The prices are reasonable for rentals (we paid about $40 per person for single day rental). But the real gem is the ski tuning shop -- great guys who know what they're doing and who will get it done in a pinch or a rush if needed. Super online store with a great selection. I ordered a Alp N Rock top as well as a Dale Sweater. When one item that I wanted was out of stock, the sales staff called me ASAP to let me know, adjust my order and shipped out the remaining order quickly. Great, really courteous staff. Even when the retail store is busy and packed during a holiday week (you can hear it in the background), the sales staff takes their time with online customers calling into the shop. I've been going to the Basin for a long time, approaching 20 years. Lots of friendly knowledgeable people, and a great selection of gear. Season Tunes - Always willing to accommodate special requests. With all the different bevel angles these days, make sure they know what you want, I had a mistake this way once. Specify no de-tune if you want, otherwise they will do it. Boot fitting - I've had great experience with multiple boots, footbeds, foamed liners and shell modifications. I would rate them better than Surefoot. Clothing - Lots more for women than men, typical in the industry. Tends to be medium to high end, nice selection. Best selection and range of all Killington ski shops. Even at that, they can't carry everything, so it does pay to look around and see what's out there. Because of the large selection, there's usually lots of great deals in the Spring sales. Hours - Open before the lifts turn and til midnight winter Friday nights. Skis - A wide selection of Atomic, Rosignol, Salomon, K2, and probably a few others. Knowledgeable staff with a good demo selection. Twice a year they do free demo days on the mountain for customers, this alone is a great reason to be a Basin customer. Accessories. Lots of selection, from boot bags to goggles to socks to helmets. Customer service - Excellent in every respect. They know I ski a lot, need to depend on my gear, and have always handled any issue promptly. The few exchanges or returns that were needed were done with a smile and no hassle. What needs improvement? More men's jackets and layers. No expedition grade gloves/mittens. I got my new bindings fitted there super quickly, and they even helped me out with a sweet pair of demos for the day since I was getting my new skis mounted. Had a great experience with Basin sports! I purchased a pair of demo skis (Nordica Enforcers) in late April. Because these skis have been selling like hotcakes I wanted to act quickly on the purchase, but I was kind of nervous about pulling the trigger based on a stock picture of the skis they had online. So when I called to inquire about them, they offered to text me a few pictures to give me an idea of what they looked like and one of the employees (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) gave me her general impression of the skis as she was holding them. It turns out that the skis are in great condition and I can't wait to use them next season. Thanks Basin Sports, not just for the skis but for the wonderful customer service. Don't go for their ski rental "package", they market it at slightly discount price but doesn't include everything you need(helmet etc). If you want to rent everything you need you'll ended up paying more than at other shops on the street. They are intentionally using this deceptive strategy to fish price sensitive customers. For this skiergirl Basin is really the only place I trust enough to care for my skis. I have purchased my skis/boots, apparel from them. The staff has amazing customer service, so friendly, and more importantly knowledgeable about the products and services they provide. They have great shopping for clothing, boots, etc. with really good deals, priced right, (not like a lot of other shops) and an online store as well, which I like because I'm not local to Killington. I have struggled for years to find ski boots that fit. Rental boots wouldn't even come close, to the point of tears after mere minutes in them. I am short with wide calves and needed a lot of arch support. The bootfitters at Basin were patient and kind, even explaining other options I would have if I went elsewhere to purchase. They were not just trying to make a sale. They tried different things and truly fit the boot to my foot and then worried about my wife calves. We went in here to rent skis- both of the guys were helping other customers, but not even as much as a "we'll be right with you" or hello- they literally didn't even look at us for 10 minutes. Finally one of them frees up, and asks us what we want- when we tell him rentals, he says, "Oh you need to fill out one of the forms over there"- couldn't tell us that 10 minutes ago? Then he proceeds over to the other worker and starts "helping" him with the couple he was working on- namely hitting on the girl and telling her everything known to mankind about ski boots and beyond- more than she probably ever wanted to know. About 10 minutes after we finished filling out the forms and he was still hitting on her, I said pretty loudly "Well I'm tired of waiting". No response- didn't even look at me. I threw the forms in the trash and walked out the door with the wife- not even an attempted eye contact. Wow....your customers are walking out the door and you don't even pretend to care. Good thing Obama lengthened the unemployment benefits- this dude will probably soon be needing them with his attitude towards customer service. We walked next door to Peak Performance ski rental and had an awesome experience, would highly recommend them over Basin Ski. read more

I was in the market for new ski boots. After looking around online and at local places I wasn't really finding what was suiting my needs. I read about the boot fitting at Basin and since I was skiing Killington this weekend I figured why not. I called them for their hours and they are open Friday until Midnight and they have a boot fitter on staff at all times. I figured Friday night was a great time to get it done; beat the crowds on Saturday and we can get the boots and be on the slopes. No waiting. We went in about 10 and were greeted by Pete and Tim. I already knew the boots that I wanted.They agreed that it was a good boot for my skill level. They also showed me some others as well that were within my price range and would suite me better in the long run as they were more of a performance/advanced level boot. I took their advice and went with a Lange RS 110. In the meantime they got the boot custom fitted with footbeds and sent me on my way for a powdery Saturday. After Skiing on Saturday I went back to see about getting an adjustment as I was having a pinch in my right ankle. Even though it was much busier on their sales floor, they got me right in and met with me for the adjustment. I was in and out in 15 mins. After skiing Sunday, I was having a pain in my left arch. I went back in and they fixed me up in a few mins. I skied Monday and the boots now fit like a pair of slippers. Great work by the staff and so happy with my investment. You guys rock. Older rental guy is an A1 beaut and will hook you up with some nice skis, but if you get the carpenter looking "Smith" guy, have fun dealing with unnecessary sass and a feeling of inferiority because this dude definitely went down a Double Black diamond once and thinks he is better than everyone else. You will know who he is if you walk in and see a guy sitting there with the grossest resting bitcch face, wearing brands that only consist of Patagonia, L.L. Bean, Vans, Dickies, and Carhart. I never post yelp reviews but I seriously just had the worst customer service experience trying to demo a snowboard here. the salesperson was lost walking in circles - when he didn't have the snowboard I was looking for he did nothing to try to get me on a snowboard that would work for me. He brought me out a seriously beat up board and told me this would be nothing like the board I wanted to demo but it was the same brand - like really try to get me into something that would work for me. I left with nothing and am super bummed bc unfortunately Basin is the only shop that carried the board I was hoping to ride. I'm going to visit Potter Brothers at double diamond - I have been demoing boards a bit this season and their service is by far the best. read more

I made the terrible mistake of buying snowboarding boots online. Basin staff tried to fix my mistake as much as they could. I ended up having to buy new boots. The guys there are really knowledgeable and got me fitted perfectly. They were able to find me new boots for alot less then what I was expecting. Brought my nephew's new and low-end ski boots here to fix some hotspots after his first two days skiing in them. The boot cracked and Basin gave him a free replacement and were apologetic about the time we'd lose skiing the next morning. To say I expected that is a stretch. But then they gave him a significantly better boot, sized and fit-it properly and got us on the slopes in quick-order. I consider that great service!
