After talking with Shelley, I felt like she got the vauge vision I was gunning for and relaxed a little. :) We flew up, 100 lbs of tablecloths and everything else in tow- and saw the place was so beautiful it seemed we couldn't mess it up:) I was excited to see the flowers as I was cool with color - just loose and elegant. When Mr. Marion delivered- he threw open the van doors and I felt my eyes tear up. Those were the most beautiful flower arrangements I have ever seen. If your heart is full to overflowing because of kindness and beauty, everything else just falls into place. That is what Fiddleheads florist shop did for us a long way from home. We are all still swooning over those arrangements. I kept one for myself to enjoy at our air b&b- and it was still so beautiful three days after the wedding that I knocked on a neighbors door and offered it to her. She was so excited and now we are friends:). Thank you for your beautiful beautiful work, and your kindness the whole way through. What a wonderful experience. And those that remained still seemed stuck in 1980's funereal-style arrangements... lots of mums or stargazers and filler. But Yelp helped me narrow down a few possibilities. And I was super delighted to find Fiddlehead Florals! Fiddlehead Florals checked off all my boxes... gorgeous & modern design with beautiful, sustainably-sourced and seasonal/local flower selections; excellent and easy customer service over the phone where the designer (I think owner?) listened to what I hoped to have delivered and helped me arrive at my final decision; and they worked all of this within my targeted budget without trying to just upsell me at their sales target. I found their prices very reasonable for the service, delivery, and of course their selection of beautiful flowers. Since this is a 10th Anniversary, I wanted something dramatic, colorful, and seasonal. I called with almost 2 weeks lead time, and my requested delivery to outside the Portland area was no problem. The florist who took my call was cheerful, gracious, and incredibly helpful in my decision making. We decided upon a designers choice featuring a strong peony base as these were now apparently in season (plus I knew the couple loved them). We hired them for our wedding to provide bouquets, floral pillars, and an altar piece for our church ceremony. Unfortunately, what we received was very disappointing. Many of the flowers were brown and wilted, the colors were nothing like what I had requested, and the overall design felt rushed and mismatched to the vision we had discussed. When I reached out to express my concerns, I was told that they could only refund the portion of the order that included the brown flowers -- essentially acknowledging that they had delivered poor-quality blooms. Thankfully, I had gone to Trader Joe's beforehand, planning to make my own centerpieces. In the end, I ended up using leftover flowers from those arrangements to create my own bouquets, boutonnieres, and altar piece -- all of which turned out far better than what I had received from the florist, and at a fraction of the cost. However, doing this last-minute added a lot of unnecessary stress to the morning of my wedding, as I scrambled to fix what should have been a finished and beautiful part of the day. I truly wish my experience had been different. Your wedding florals are such a meaningful part of the celebration, and it was heartbreaking to have to redo so much of it myself. Come in". So I do, awkwardly, feeling like I'm an inconvenience but wondering why she hooked her door open at all. After browsing for a few moments while she prepares out back, she returns. I shyly ask if it's okay to take any pictures as I was going to use her beautiful space that I love for a presentation at school, (horticulture). She frantically throws up her hand telling me no and acting really frantic. I understand hard days, and I understand stress, but for the love of your community, keep your door locked on days where you just can't be bothered. I threw out any desire to feature her store or purchase any of the great items I saw around me and got out of there as fast as possible.
