The experience: I've been to Skin Diversity twice now, and both times have left me with that overwhelming sense of "yep, I picked the right place". I had never had a Brazilian Wax and was quite nervous about the whole experience. I mean wax, down there? I just knew I'd cry. But I didn't. In fact, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, thanks to Vanessa. I told her it was my first time and she walked me through the whole process, step by step always letting me know what was going on before proceeding. It was great, I didn't feel anxious or rushed at all. I was super pleased with the results, and honestly the second one was even easier than the first! You really end up just chatting through your session to the point of almost not noticing the wax coming off. Plus they use a hard wax which doesn't require strips, and therefore doesn't pull your skin, just the hair. Huge plus!! The rest: In terms of decor, they've got a chic boutique feel going on. Everything is super clean and nicely lit. There are little samples in the waiting area if you are curious about some of their scrubs. I came here twice for Brazilian waxes and was very pleased both times. The woman who waxed me was easy to talk to and thorough. I believe they use a cold wax on the more sensitive areas, so the worst part goes by quickly and less painfully. The process seemed to hurt less and go by faster the second time. Both times left me with super-smooth results and minimal ingrown hairs. There was always a place to park and the building was very clean, quiet, and soothing. Came here for my 1st facial at the age of 30 (shame on me) a few days ago and I will definitely be back. I bought a Groupon deal for a microdermabrasion and mini facial and I am so glad I did. My skin needs alot of work and she was up for the task. She was very gentle and let me know step by step what she was doing next. I was talked to about over exfoliating and using useless products and now I don't use to much of anything. I am leaving my skin in her hands from now on. Came across Skin Diversity Day Spa. The only true spa in downtown Long Beach. The owner, Vanessa was very gracious to give us a tour. My partner and I booked two services, a massage for her and a facial for me. Kathleen's massage was great. The masseuse , Sally, did a fantastic job getting out all of the knots and leaving fully rejuvenated. My facial was fantastic!!! No up selling. ( I hate that). I bought a living social deal for two bikini waxes and am so glad that I did because the methods that the owner uses to do the waxing are non-conventional and much better than a traditional wax strip method. She is so easy to talk to and makes you feel at ease during the treatment (which took about 45 minutes in total.) The best perks are the sounds of trickling water that percolates throughout the entire space, alkaline water in clear goblets offered at the door, and the free 2-hour parking a mere block away. The Hot Tamale body wrap is amazing. It starts out warm and cozy and then gets perfectly Hot. I am fairly toned but have that stubborn layer of fat that likes to collect between my skin and muscle. I first came to Skin Diversity Day Spa back in June thanks to a Living Social voucher for a Brazilian Wax. It was my first one so I was really nervous, but Vanessa made it such a comfortable and (nearly) painless experience both of the times I went to her! I recently decided to try somewhere new for a Brazilian because I live in Orange County and the drive to LB is inconvenient and I seriously regret it. After my recent experience, I know that Vanessa is the only one I will be allowing to wax down there from now on. I also had Tracois do a brow shaping for me. In case you forgot, id like to remind my followers that I am a total spa snob. I won a gift certificate for this place and i have to say, that i took FULL advantage of this and got the works! The Skin Diversity Spa (great name, it's like skin UNIversity, except for diverse skin types-LOVE IT!) is not a full spa, so don't expect hot tubs and towel maids, but it's perfect for a facial, wax, or wrap, (i forget if they did massage or not) at an affordable price. I booked myself for a wax, facial, hot tamale wrap, AND body scrub. The wax was the LEAST painful wax i've ever had and I had the most amazing facial ever! Before we started though She used this computerized scanner to show me what my skin looked like on the inside. I had seen this once before a long time ago, but not as high tech as this. It showed my levels of dehydration, so I knew exactly how much water I needed to drink AND it showed my sun damage. This way I knew exactly what kind of facial i needed, i knew she wasn't trying to give me extra stuff i didn't need bc the computer clearly showed what I needed. Very cool. I loved that my treatment room was dark and relaxing with soft music with a heavenly soft and fluffy WARM bed. Anyways, my facial was done by the owner, named Vanessa, and she was by far the MOST knowledgable Esthetician I've ever met! Her voice was soft and soothing, and I definitely fell asleep at one point, especially during the body wrap-which I SWEAR made me lose like 2 inches of fat in one sitting! Anyways, my FAVORITE part was the Vichy shower. Yes there is a Vichy Shower! Do you know how hard it is to find a Vichy shower anymore? (As a bi-coastal person in the spa biz, I can tell you that even the most elite spas in NYC do NOT have Vichy showers, they're too "hard to install" or whatever.) It was this final touch that made me appreciate this place even more! I can tell that they take pride in their services and went the extra mile to ensure that their guests had the most comfortable and relaxing experience. If I still lived in Long Beach, I'd go here for all my beauty services, but I don't, so I hope the locals take my advice and check out this little gem! read more

Bought a living social deal and am so glad I did! Had my first wax tonight and Vanessa was awesome! It took a few attempts to get an appointment but once I did, it was easy! Vanessa took her time, very meticulous, and explained everything. She used so many oils and lotions, I can't remember them. :) Some coconut oil etc....It was not painful at all...usually there's a bit of pain expected but this time it was so minimal...very happy about that! The infrared body wraps are really cool! You lay down on a facial chair and get wrapped in large silicone flaps that are hooked up to a machine. I am simply blown away by the great job Vanessa did!.. When I first walked in i was greeted by Makita, who was very helpful and offered a beverage. My first impression was a clean atmosphere, very relaxing. I felt like I was at a high end spa! To top it off, the prices were very reasonable! Vanessa made me feel at ease (and the zen music might have helped as well) she explained why she would use the wax she used and the steps of the procedure. I found the facility very clean and quite cute with positive energy flowing around the spa. My Brazilian wax was done by Vanessa who made me very comfortable and had me complete a pre-questionnaire that gave her the knowledge to complete my wax. I was very happy with the completed work. Everything took about 45 mins. Vanessa talked and educated me on what products she was using and what the benefits were.
