I went to the Carson location today 10/20/22 at 1pm but I've already had a negative experience on 10/7/22. I called on 10/19/22 and spoke with Ms. Alisha, I believe her name was, and asked for a 10/20/22 appointment with Pam, but was told she was on vacation. So I go ahead and ask for Gwen. Ms. Alisha instructed me to notify her when I arrived for my appointment today. That she can set me with a Senior. Please, Skin Essences, explain why I was assigned to the same person! The young lady is lovely, but I believe she lacks work experience. 1. I've been on the steamer for about 30 minutes, 2. I informed her that I have sensitive skin and require extractions. The young lady did not extract my entire face; I pointed to all the areas, and I believe she rushed through my face as she did on 10/7/22. 3. Mind you, she applied a sulfur mask to my face and instructed me to leave it on for 15 minutes, but she kept me in the mask for at least 40 minutes. Came back and did not fully wipe the mask off, I returned and did not completely remove the mask; as I walked to my car, I noticed my face still had mask under my neck, nose, and eyes. I turned around and came back in, asking for a towel; she apologized and gave me the towel. Please do not interpret this young lady negatively; my issue is time coordination and listening to your customers' needs. So I wiped the mask and told her it was fine, but as soon as I got in my car, my face tightened and turned white, so I got back in my car, this time Ms. Alisa was walking in front of me as I walked through the door. As I walked through the door, Ms. Alisa was walking in the front as I walk thru the door. . I showed my face and she gave me a moisturizer and I appreciate it however my face I still do not feel satisfied I still need a real extraction done. I wasted 70.00 twice and still feel I did not get what I paid for. Let's fast forward. I was called and told to call back once my face healed because it had become hard for almost two and a half weeks. I called and left a few voice messages, but I never got a call back. On November 16, callers were finally able to speak with someone. I was told that Ms. Pam was available on December 6, and that I could be accommodated at my workplace because I had an appointment that day at 11 a.m. On December 5, I was informed several times that Pam would be unavailable until December 7 at 11 a.m. I was able to speak with my boss, who was accommodating. Skin Essence called again, requesting that the appointment be changed. I'm at the point where I believe they didn't want to fix anything. They were aware that I had to keep changing my work appointments as a result of them. So I believe they were unwilling to assist me because I told them what happened in October. I didn't Yelp in October because I wanted to give Skin Essence of Carson a chance to fix the problem, but as it turned out, they didn't want to help. I really miss the Inglewood location that closed down; I never had any problems there during my years of going there. Carson, in my opinion, provides poor customer service and lacks empathy. read more

I had an appointment with Gwen but the day before I received a text saying someone else will do it due to Gwen being out. When I arrived I was asked to sign the disclosures and was shown to my room to change. After I sat there for 20mins with cold air blowing on my face she came in and started the facial. Before she applied the first cream she said this cream might tingle but shouldn't burn, cool it felt ok. The first cream must have had to bleach my skin or lightened it because my baby hair were all bleached when I got in my car as well as my face was extremely irritated. After the first cream she scrubbed my face hard with a scrub. Every product she put on after that either burned or felt irritating to my skin. She said it's normal. She put the peel-off mask on last it needed to dry so she said she'll be back in 5mins. After waiting 15-20 minutes I called the front desk to let her I was ready the receptionist came in the room looking for her. Side note: after she applied the scrub she left the room for 5-10 mins at a time in between each product she applied. Finally she came back she but didn't stay, she said she was waiting for her tool to sterilize. So I started peeling the mask off myself, when she came back (2hrs in at this point ) she explained to me it was a process and it takes time. I understood that. Then she proceeded to wipe the rest of the peel off mask off my face. She left again for a couple mins when she came back she started the extractions on my nose but w her finger and a tissue, no tool. Then slapped a thick Vaseline type ointment on my face and sent me on my way. I wouldn't recommend anyone to essence skin because it seemed as if she was in a rush and the bleaching cream and scrub has caused my skin to start scabbing, my neck gets irritated when I sweat and my face has more marks than I went in with. read more

Wasted my time . I called in in hopes of getting a consultation and a basic facial . They told me to come in for an appointment at 1 . I arrived about 15 min early before my appointment just in case I had to fill out any papers . The women there were really nice and welcoming but i pretty much waited around for about 40 min . 30 min in the waiting area and 10 min in the room with a robe on like I was getting a facial just for the women to tell me to wash my face and use lightening cream something that I don't already know . They said it was because I had previously gotten a chemical peel that I couldn't get a facial but from my understanding you can get a facial every 3-4 weeks and today makes 3 weeks. read more

I read the negative reviews about them and still decided to go. Big mistake. I had a 1:00p appointment . I called and told the receptionist I'll that I could be there by 1:15p due to traffic. She asked someone if it was ok, I heard their response which was yes. Let me tell you first that I live 35 miles away from the business, I get here and some girl says "I'm sorry we are not taking any late appointment because we have a staff meeting" I said that I was told I could come. I am looking at the woman who told me it was fine. She is looking like a deer in headlights. She says nothing helpful. And I was told "I'm sorry" a couple more times and that was it. My gut instinct was not to come. I read many bad reviews on their unprofessionalism. When I realized that I would be late while on the freeway, something said just reschedule. Listen to your gut. They may be able to give good skin care but they need to hire someone to keep them running in a professional way. They are losing business. I had to give 1 star but they don't deserve any. read more

I just finished a polish and microdermabrasion by joy, this was my 1st and definitely won't be my last. I booked appts for my family and myself. Our appts were scheduled for 10am with three different "clinicians". All of us felt our facials were rushed because they had other clients waiting on them. They would start one step on you and then leave the room to work on someone else. My thought was "I hope she washed her hands" prior to returning to my face. My family members didn't get all the services they requested. The salons major concern was pushing their products. They didn't explain pricing or how to use them. One young lady got upset when I said I didn't want one of their products. She kept trying to back me into a corner to purchase it. Come to find out, the same product was in something else I already purchased. We hoped for a joyous experience and left feeling taken advantage of. I really wanted this salon to worth the money but I'm not sure I return for another visit. The clinician working on my daughter left her with serious scars on her face. I really hope they heal. Perhaps they spend time teaching the newbie instead of gossiping about her in the hallway for all to hear. read more

Called all over and finally managed to get a quick same day appointment for a facial. My esthetician, Treanna, came in looking a bit rushed and disheveled... Her scrubs were all wrinkled. The facial went as expected (I got the 2 in 1, $70). Pore opening products and heat, the extractions, and pore closing with extra leave ons. I expected pain with the extractions, and it hurt. Nothing unbearable, but I wouldn't describe this as "painless" by any means. She explained every step, and put a lot of effort into keeping me calm. The only bad part of this place was the speech at the end. I tried to make it clear I just wanted a one time facial, but they wouldn't take no for an answer. Treanna kept trying to get me to buy a package, telling me basically that she was an expert scientist and had to take a whooping 3 science classes to get licensed, and kept treating me like I was dumb. I know what acne is, I know the basic acne treating chemicals (which she insisted are only in THEIR products), and I know one facial won't magically give me clear skin. I also am not coming back in 3 weeks, sorry, but I'm just not that interested, don't take it personally. If you know 0 about pimples or want an entirely new regimen, sure, come here. I had an appointment last Saturday (July 30th) at noon. I waited and waited and waited. Finally, I was placed in a room, but was left to wait some more; total time was close to an hour. I got fed up and went to the receptionist with my gift certificate and complaint. I told her I would be leaving because of the unprofessional manner in which my appointment was handled and would use my gift certificate toward products instead of service. By that time, Pam walked in, apologized for the long wait and offered to gift me my microdermabrasion! I was pleased with her service, as well as her concern and I took her up on the offer that following Monday. My skin looked wonderful and she even gifted me my follow up microdermabrasion (done today 8-6-2016) as well as a jar of Ultra Extreme Cream. Wow, what a lovely gesture. Overall, I was pleased with the service. My only issue with going there for services is time management. I am a stickler for time and I expect others (especially business owners to be the same). Initial appointment was re-scheduled as there would not be a staff person to accommodate myself and my daughter. On arrival of second appointment, greeted by staff, completed paperwork. Taken to room to prepare for facial, my daughter was not given any instructions (first visit), I was taken to a room for my facial as well. At 27 min after the hour, i called the front desk, no answer. Went to the front desk, explained we have just been sitting there in the room. I was then asked if I would like to re-schedule (No explanation, no checking to see what happened, nothing). As we left two additional customers where entering. Maybe share with them there is a wait, we have a delay, let me check and see shat is going on, anything. Well some to find out there was only "One" staff person and 3 customers waiting for a facial, oh yes and two additional just entered. The whole experience was very unprofessional, lack of accountability and lack there of in customer service. Again trying to support local business, black owned. I am very disappointed in skin essence my daughter and I came in for an appointment I made appointment with Gwen but when we got there , we was pushed over to someone else , the person worked on both of us my at the same time , it was the quickest facial we ever had It was a rushed job , Our face looked the same as when we walked in no change blackheads still on nose and everything else . we made another appointment Thinking that it would bet better But no way it got worst but that didn't happen because they mixed up the appointment and didn't call to apologize or nothing. But I still bought over 200.00 of products the products works better then the employees .
