    Mrs Mikes - King burger

After eating about 5 veggie burgers in the last month (at Boon's) I had to balance it off with a…read more"real" burger. So I splurged (calorically speaking) on a burger at Mrs. Mikes. I don't really give out 5 stars that often but this place really deserves it. I am still shocked and amazed at how good their burger is! I ordered the cheeseburger ($5) - kinda pricey compared to VJ's. But Mrs. Mike's burgers are bigger comparatively speaking. The cheeseburger is on a sesame bun, probably the size of a whopper. The patty is just slightly bigger than the bun and cooked with a slight crisp on the outside but still juicy inside - I love that! The flavour of the beef patty is perfectly seasoned and balances so well with the cheese, pickle, chili, onion and mustard. They don't put too much chili on their burgers so it's not as messy to eat but you still get the chili flavour. Of course I had to order their fries ($3). Now I'm torn on their fries because I was expecting the type of home cut fries (with the skin on) like at VJs but the ones here look and taste like McDonald's fries (although they taste a bit better than McDs). I have my moments when I love McD fries but when I am going to a local burger joint, I totally expect more "homestyle" fries. So maybe that pulls them down to 4.5??? I don't know...it's all subjective anyways and I'm neurotic enough to get a cheeseburger here and drive down to Broadway to get the fries at VJs. LOL. I was pretty full after finishing the cheeseburger and eating half the fries but I didn't feel too gross. You know that feeling when you've stuffed yourself with too much greasy food. So 5 stars for the cheeseburger and 4 stars for the fries = 4.5 stars, but I gave them the 5. The place seems pretty clean and organized in the kitchen. I was a little confused about where I was suppose to place my order as there are 2 widows (one in the front and one on the side). For the most part, it seemed like you order at the front, then wait for your order and then pick up and pay on the side window but then again some people did it differently. This place closes in the winter and closes at 7 pm so it's not a late night burger joint. There is no indoor seating as there are only picnic tables on the right side, which is about as scenic as a parking lot/alley - I took mine to go. All the prices listed on the board include taxes so it'll be a round number when you pay (CASH ONLY). They have a king burger (which I'm curious to what in includes), no fat boy but maybe the king burger is their version of one??? They also serve chili fries, milkshakes, and chicken fingers. Note: they are open seasonally (closes for the winter). Tues-Sat 11 am to 7 pm.

Very friendly service and have a great hardworking staff. The burger is quite enjoyable and indeed…read moreworth trying, it just isn't my place of choice for a fatboy.

Georges Burgers and Subs - Cross-section of my combo sub with light mustard

Tip: The fatboy combo for $14.99 is a good deal. You get a burger, fries, and a drink for that…read moreprice. Original Georges Burgers and Subs is a chain in Winnipeg. I had never been to one. I was delighted to see this location in Steinbach after I had visited the Dollarama a few doors down. This eatery is across from Booster Juice. I needed to grab dinner. I did a search online to check out the menu. One reviewer indicated that this place is heavy-handed on the mustard when you order a sub. I find that mustard can overpower everything, so i decided to go with light mustard. This eatery is located in a plaza. I backed into a spot steps away from the entrance. It had a great deal on a fatboy (burger) combo. I was in the mood for a sub, but made a mental note about this deal. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Nishan, a friendly man behind the counter. I located the sub that I saw during my menu research and ordered it. I got the combo sub. I like that there's only one size, which is roughly a footlong. It simplified placing my order. This sub had ham, spiced ham, salami, lettuce, onions, tomato, mayo, mustard, cheese and sub sauce. I asked that I get light mustard on the sub. He nodded. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and all was great. He let me know that it would take five minutes to make my sub. It was perfect for me to browse and take photos. You can dine in. There were a few tables and chairs. He had another colleague who made my sub and made sure that light mustard was applied. I loved that both cared about this detail. It didn't take long to make my sub. He wrapped it up and handed it over to me. I thanked both of them and happily left with my dinner. I got back to my hotel room, which took less than five minutes to drive there, even with construction, to chow down. This combo sub was excellent. I loved all the ingredients, which tasted yummy and fresh. The onions were diced and I loved them. I didn't experience that onion burn when they are sliced thick and are raw. This sub is like my beloved assorted sub from Mr Sub, but a bit fancier with tomatoes and onions. The mustard as a standard was also different. Light mustard works nicely. I'm sure that if you had a distain for this condiment that you could ask that it be held. It was great having food from Original Georges for the first time. I'd come back for more when I'm in the area. (235)
