I always have a fear of cheating on my barber (who is over 2 hours away) but I decided I just had to get a cut cause things were getting out of hand. After a strong recommendation from a friend, I booked a Saturday appointment with Jordan aka Phantom_Fadez. As a 3rd gen barber, he knows what he's doing. The shop is clean, the clients are tame, and the music volume is just right. Jordan worked with me to get my cut exactly how I like it and we had wonderful conversation. This barbershop is extraordinarily LGBTQ+ friendly (also law enforcement friendly) and I was super glad to feel safe during my cut. Tip: if you want a beard cleanup with your haircut, order the half shave because I ordered the full and Jordan told me that he would have been shaving my face completely off! read more

I was a walk-in, and though I was greeted immediately (by the owner?), the wait was not too long. A busy barbershop is a good thing. I got to soak in the environment. The layout is very vintage but authentic. This place is oozing with good energy. Lots of laughing and conversing, and though I don't talk much myself, I asked for a flat top, and I had a more novice cutter cut my hair, and a more senior barber dipped in and took over for a bit, all the while coaching and mentoring, something I don't see anymore. The only thing I would have enjoyed more is a straight razor shave instead of clippers which looking back perhaps I should have been more specific on that. I've been coming to this shop for at about 2 years and have never had a bad experience or haircut. The vibe is friendly and personable but also very laid back. Family friendly but also lively and enjoyable energy. Stacey "Tiny" has been my go-to barber during this time and I can't say enough good things about his skills as a barber or general personality and work ethic. Tasha has also cut my hair once before and did a great job. From what I can tell everyone seems to have a solid clientele of regulars which is always a good sign. Shop is always clean with sports/news on and the A/C going. Somewhat unrelated but the Radix House coffee truck across the street as well as La Posada in the same shopping center are great local spots worth checking out. My son got a haircut here, he was not happy at all with it. In fact, it is possibly the worst haircut he's ever had. I have no idea how a professional barber lets someone walk out looking like this. I would not recommend this place unless you want some sort of fade because this seems to be the only skill possessed by these "barbers." Worst service ever. I came in at 933 for a 930 am appointment and the unprofessional barber starts abusing me. (The funny thing is I'm south Asian and he calls me N**#*) Just goes to show you the foundations he has in his mind. This is the worst service provider I've ever come across in my life. I wouldnt come here again. I booked a Mr. Cesar and I think he's very unprofessional, immature and senseless. 0 stars. I ended up not getting the haircut which was already postponed due to COVID omicron by 2-3 weeks. Says he called to confirm the appointment, but didn't leave a message. I've been going here for about a year. Most of my hair cuts were "ok", but the last I time I got a cut a Skinny's, the side of my hair would stick up and spike due to a bad fade. Tasha who I've been working with for the last year told me to schedule the speciality haircut next time so she could wash my hair and take her time with the next fade. I did that today, and she would not wash my hair. Instead, she skipped the fade all together and gave me the "disconnected" look. She kept saying that she was in a rush to cut someone else's hair. The haircut is pretty bad, and the shave is too high on one side (like a fat Mohawk off-centered). I think I'm going to shave my head Sunday and just start from scratch. after working with Tasha for a year it was really disappointing to be rushed through. I just wanted to feel good about my self going into the holidays... I won't be coming back or recommending skinnies. I've been in the process of moving and my clippers and most of my trimming supplies were somewhere in a box so I stopped in to get a quick cut and beard trim. Walked in and the place was packed, everyone however was very upbeat and laughing and joking. I was informed the wait wouldn't be long and only two people were in front of me. I took a seat and marveled for a while at the vintage Flowbee someone has stashed on top of their workstation. My haircut and beard trim came out excellent I was super comfortable and even ended up buying a batch of beard oil. I've been cutting my own hair and trimming my own beard for years. I don't like being ignored while only 2 chairs have an ass in them. I was sort of greeted when I walked in. Just "have an appointment?", no, "1 ahead of you". That's it. Sat there for a bit, 20 min(?), not too long, but noone spoke to me again and I had no clue how long the wait might be, but after 1st impression, I wasn't willing to wait too long. It's hard to find places that offer superb customer service but yet are quick and efficient. I needed my beard shaved and trimmed and this place had good reviews. I arrived there without an appointment and was greeted by my barber, Taylor. No waiting. My first time getting a shave by a pro and he knew EXACTLY what to do to help me achieve the look I want. And he did it while allowing me to feel at ease and comfortable. Not like I had to be awkwardly talking the whole time like I get with some people. It was the morning so I was still waking up. What's even better is my "beard" is patchy and he some how made it go from a zero to a hero. I highly recommend Taylor for your beard trim. I came in even as a walk in and while I have had a terrible time finding barbers in Austin who can give me a decent shave, Tiny aka "the beast with a razor" hooked it up and I look so clean! All my money. They can have it. This barbershop has a lot of personality while maintaining great professionalism and that's why they keep the 4. The price was more than fair for the detail he put into my shave. The timing was quick and painless and even with an influx of customers coming in the door they were turning and burning them all out lookin good as hell. I was referred to Skinny's by a friend and I'm so thankful I found a real, local barbershop! I go in for a straight razor head shave and beard trim once a month and have had service from Matt and Marcos so far. The vibe inside was bright and welcoming. I was greeted when I came in by someone right away. The barbers are usually excellent at keeping their appointments on time; I think I've only seen one incident where a guy was like 5 minutes behind but he was trying to help out someone who walked in without an appointment. The barbers are all friendly and chatting with each other and with their customers. You get the sense that these people actually enjoy working with each other which is more than I can say for some jobs I've had. Went to the westgate location and saw Tasha for a haircut and beard trim. I was satisfied with the haircut but she did not listen to what I asked her to do with my beard. I specifically asked to keep it full and just to shape it not cut much off the length. she did not listen and cut all the length and fullness out of my beard. Skinny's is amazing! I have been to several different barbershops and my boys are never happy with the outcome. We were invited here by the Big brothers big sisters get ready for school event. The barbershop wanted to get the kids fresh for school. I said let me just give it a try and I'm so glad that I did. I get a simple clean up, but have seen others come in with some wild stuff and they can def handle it. This place is fantastic. The atmosphere is welcoming, casual, and nostalgic. You can't help but feel as though you've entered into a barbershop from the 1950s or 60s. I've had Kevin as my barber twice and he really knows how to make you feel relaxed and at home. He takes his time to make sure the haircut and shave requested is perfect. His attention to detail is incredible. When I moved to Austin, I was very nervous about finding a good barber. The stars must have aligned for me as Skinny's was the first local place I visited and I could not be happier with the results. I highly recommend this place.
