I've had many facial and skin care procedures in my 50 years of adult life-from carbon copy chains where the care givers muttered rote sales pitches while giving mediocre care to my face. I've had body wraps which left me feeling like a stuffed burrito and pseudo skin specialists who knew less about my skin than I did. I've been lucky-I inherited naturally moist skin and most of my youth and young adult life all I had to do was slap on a moisturizer and a little blush and head out. When menopause hit, my skin changed and my former dewy skin became dry as the sand around Bend!. I've come to expect minimal service when redeeming Social Living/Groupon vouchers because many of the service suppliers make little to no money off them. Anne Chen, owner of Skinology, sees these vouchers as a way to educate women and men about their bodies largest organ...the skin. I purchased 2 vouchers, one for me and one as a gift for my daughter..the last facial I had was at a beauty college where clients were serviced as though they were in the Ford Production Line. I thought we'd go in together then go to lunch in Lake O, However Anne is a sole practitioner and only takes one client at a time. I scheduled on line, then turned up ill the day of my appointment called and cancelled -thinking I'd just thrown $40 down the drain. Daughter went, loved the work she had done and said Anne would accept my voucher past the expiration date if I scheduled right away-so I did. I wasn't particularly fussy about skin care products-drug store and on sale is what sold me. I requested an Anti-Aging facial and added on a pore cleaning and eye firming treatments. It was over an hour of lovely scents, cool calming lotions and potions and a real education about the contents of my 'Ponds' cold cream (what my mother used), Oil of Olay moisturizer (ditto) and Avon eye serum and ditto). I felt wonderful after the treatment, my face looked great and I ended up buying several of Annes products, which are all natural, no filers or chemical preservatives added and very reasonably priced. A trial sized sample of her Repechage Opti-Firming Serum comes with the treatment. Though $55.00 for the regular sized jar isn't the most expensive I've seen for eye serum, it can be a bit steep. But worth it! The sample sized jar can last a month, says Anne, with care. She treated my aged skin much differently than she treated my daughters 40 year old skin..that makes sense - compared to the production line facial I'd last had, where we both got the exact same thing and neither of us were particularly happy about it. My daughter said my face looked better than ever-a nice compliment for a 72 year old to hear, even if it is from her daughter!. I'm considering scheduling Annes special 6 treatment sale which ends up costing about $50.00 a treatment. Thats a never heard before price, IMO, for facials and most affordable for monthly of bi-monthly skin care! When I think about what I pay for a hair cut and color weave it's really reasonable! Anne has a mens special treatment-so you June Grooms can go in and get more handsome for your Bride-trust me, she's at a some spa doing the same for you!. I highly recommend Annes knowledgeable service, the care that she gives each client and her quality natural products which contain things like Blueberry extract, Jojoba oil and calendula. Reading the labels is like reading one of my Kitchen Facial Herb Books. Traditional herbs that have been used in women's skin care for hundreds of years appear in a non irritating base. No mystery alphabet soup chemicals anywhere. Frequent vouchers available!...or call her and see what specials she's offering. I haven't had a facial since junior high. Now being 28, I knew there was a lot of junk that needed to get taken care of. I thought I had learned enough about skincare through my own learning of watching videos, etc. Having Anne really take the time to get to know not only my skin goals, but she went over all the products I'm currently using and why I'm using them. Her responses then were very enlightening and educational. She's clear, concise, and knows what she is talking about. Since I knew I had a lot to extract, I was ready for a most likely uncomfortable facial. To my surprise, there was no discomfort at all during the extractions. She really took the time to cleanse my skin beforehand and make sure my pores were softened and opened. Everything about it was relaxing! I also got my brows tinted and she did a great job at matching them exactly. You couldn't even tell they had been tinted (not in a bad way) because it looks so natural. I recently moved from NYC where I had regular facials at many different places. I've had two maple brightening facials at Skinology in the past 2 months and I'm a believer! I'm 35 and had several active blemishes and dryness at my first appointment and I have zero blemishes now and a little more bounce in my skin. The treatments are focused on results over relaxation, if you are looking for a champagne spa day, this might not be the right fit. I visited Anne for the first time and received a facial. I had dry skin and congested pores and Anne did an amazing job of educating me and helping my skin feel rejuvinated. Anne doesn't push products, like some spas do, but simply educates about benefits and asks a lot of questions about what you are looking for. She was not only incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of skincare, but she also spent a great amount of time on my skin consultation and examining what could be causing my skin concerns. I have to say I appreciated Anne's knowledge; however, I didn't have a very great experience. First off, her face steamer broke and all she could tell me was that she had two others but they were at home! Not helpful. Secondly the "high frequency" machine burnt my neck. When I brought up the issue to her, she informed me that she got it replaced. I feel that because I bought my groupon and used it, I didn't get as good as service. Very dissappointed!!!! read more

I have had many facials in my life but this was hands down the WORST facial ever. I bought a coupon through Living Social and I wish that I could request my money back. Ann was nice, however, she hardly gave me a facial. I even questioned whether she is really an esthetician. After her "skin analysis" she requested more money in order to address my specific problem even though the coupon was supposed to include analysis and custom facial. I did not mind paying extra if she wanted to do something extra for me. Then, she basically just washed my face, rubbed it with a wet towel until skin got irritated and red, and them applied a cream. There was not facial massage and no mask applied. I thought that that it would be a nice relaxing treatment but I left feeling irritated and ripped off. read more
