We had a good time staying here. Our room was clean and the resort itself was good too. It's not a luxury resort or anything though but the service was good. You can pull your boat up right next to your room. There's a bar at the pool (drinks were not great though), and free breakfast included (but just eggs, toast, bacon, and nothing too crazy). First and foremost your desk person should understand the meaning of Customer service. Without service you have not customers. If you hate your job and people maybe stocking shelves at Publix nearby is for you. We were promised our room by 4:00 after checking back numerous times then saying we're really busy it will be done soon just didn't cut it. The hotel was more than half empty so we were intrigued by the excuses. Rooms are big and spacious but stuck in a time frame several years back. They could use an upgrade that's for sure. The free buffet breakfast (not the fault of the team that work there to get you food) your choice in eggs was hard boiled or scrambled. You could get bacon and they had the usual bread choices and a waffle maker. One old dispenser of Cheerios and milk sitting out in a gallon container. Over Charge my Credit Card Paid their so called Resort Fee upon booking but was charge $162 after my stay. Called to asked and they said it was for resort fee, but when they ask for my CC, i was told it was for incidental only. Called and employee hung up when I asked to speak with a manager. We had a great deal of issues starting off with this place as far as simply getting in our room. They use a wristband for entry and we needed to go up and down the stairs a total of 4 times before gaining entry. The lady at nighttime reception was very nice and said that they were definitely having a ton of issues with their locking system. The room had a bad Oder upon entry. They used a plug-in to try to disguise some of the smell, but it was not pleasant either. The condition of our deck was pretty bad with a lot of cracks. The light fixtures in the room were not properly attached to the ceiling. The A/C was inoperable in the BR. The only way to get ice is to go to the front desk. Lastly, the Wi-Fi was not working in our room at all. Simply put a great deal of deferred maintenance. The buffet breakfast definitely was basic at best. We booked for three nights and Lydia the manager, did let us out after one night, however she did charge us $50 for canceling our three night reservation early. read more

This is our second time within the year that we've stayed at skipjack. This time we brought nine family members . We had connecting suites which were clean and the breakfast was so good! Kudos to Cha Cha at the pool bar for always helping with food and drinks. The pool and cabanas are such great amenities. We took a short drive to Sombrero Beach and had a great time. Easy solid four or more. They're sort of a resort in becoming with some ongoing remodeling and hurricane repairs going on. Our room in the condo/hotel area was nice enough. Big comfy bed. Plenty of hot water with adequate water pressure. Two big TVs. Happy, happy, happy. A few things. I didn't like having to run to the front desk and ask for ice every time we needed it. Even cheap hotels have ice machines!! Would have also have preferred if they had sundries and snacks available for sale at the front desk instead of merch. That's a missed opportunity. Also didn't like having to wear a plastic bracelet everywhere and since my hands are too big to take them on or off, I had to break it off and modify it to comply. Also, a few of our outlets didn't work and the towel rack kept falling apart. Small stuff. Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful and others just weren't. Scolding me about my bracelet and such, oh gawd. Pool area's nice and we would have done the bar twice but it was closed one late afternoon for whatever reason. Walked in and out of breakfast, was too crowded. Looked too much like we threw a flashlight on a bunch of bats when we walked in! Yipes. Restaurant's very promising but we never had a chance to try it. Maybe next time? Also be nice if they made some additional ramps to get the carts up to the elevator instead of having a walk all the way around through gravel to another approach. Small things I'm sure they'll address. I think of a resort as a destination and honestly we'd of been disappointed if we were stuck here ....but we also didn't pay a whole lot so we didn't really care. read more

The pictures are deceiving. I would never stay here again. We are currently staying at the hotel but I would not again. The floors were really dirty when we got into the room and our daughter had black hands and knees in about 15 minutes after crawling around. I requested from the front desk that they clean the floors and the employee treated me as though we were asking too much. He never apologized and had an attitude. The pack n play they gave us was broken, the sharp broken poles on the bottom could have hurt our daughter. The grounds are littered with trash and construction debris. We paid 500 dollars a night to stay here, I recommend you do not. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for four nights in December. The staff were very kind and friendly. We were delayed on our flight and they were able to keep the office open for us to check in during the evening. We were a little apprehensive about the complementary breakfast, but it ended up being good. We ended up eating at the restaurant two nights out of the four and enjoyed the bar. Our bartender Kevin was awesome as well as the other bartenders. They have karaoke night, which was a lot of fun to watch. Our room was very clean and smelled good. They cleaned our room every day. The property was a little rundown and the gym on the premises was very old. I did not see too many people using the amenities. I would definitely come back in the warmer season. Stayed here 3 nights. Home base for exploring marathon area during our two week vacation. No frills. Fair priced for what u get (budget), Nice place overall, good customer service, rooms r large updated, clean and quiet. kitchenette is very basic. Wished they had a toaster/ toaster oven. Just my preference and have encountered in previous hotels/ resorts. Makes experience nicer if u have kiddos. Felt safe, unfortunately your balcony view is a parking lot. But at least u can sit outside on little balcony. Stay included breakfasts which were good(many options) not great. One disappointment is they don't offer creamer at all for coffee (just milk). It's the little things that make a difference, Never encountered before. So, I bough my own and brought to breakfast. Grocery store is close to location. Pool was cold. Said its heated(it was not). Pool area was large, clean area with plenty of seating a restaurant and tiki bar (i did not utilize bar/ restaurant ). They had karaoke one night and sounded like they were having a great time. Be aware They charge u $25 for pool towels that u get returned when u take back to office at end of stay. You can swap out for fresh at any time. That was a first for me. They also charge a daily resort fee which I feel is a rip off and money grab. They place is no frills, no extras, "resort". I most likely will not utilize/stay again as I feel you can get better bang for your buck elsewhere . read more

My husband and I have been coming here for two years now and we love it. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The room we stay in has a full kitchen and it has a water view on the fourth floor. We always bring our 27ft boat because the have a ramp right on the property that you can launch so it's very convenient. The dock master JEFF is extremely helpful and very mindful with the boat slips and parking. If you are looking to rent in a family and boat friendly resort Skipjack is for you. They also have boat rentals and Kayak rentals right on the property. The pool bar and restaurant are very convenient. By far this has been the best resort we have experienced in Marathon that's why we keep coming back! Great staff ! read more

The pool is great , the vibe is great .. but the pool bartender had no clue how to make a rum runner ( this is THEE most asked for drink in Florida!) $25 for 2 rum runners that didn't even have all the ingredients!!!... then argues with me about the ingredients! (Btw, it has grenadine in it genius ) he was accommodating when I asked he dispose of the crap drink and replace with something that tasted halfway decent but for resort reasons he really should've googled the recipe.. it's not hard to do these days . While planning for vacation, I noticed Sombrero Beach in Marathon and thought it would be a nice place to visit on our way to Key West. The Skipjack Resort & Marina was nearby and well rated. The online booking site had an advertised rate of $220 per night for a 1 bedroom suite with a King bed so I took the plunge. We ate lunch at a picnic table on Sombrero Beach overlooking the ocean and arrived early at the Skipjack. Two very nice young ladies explained everything and checked us in. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a balcony overlooking tennis courts which were being used as trailer parking. The other side of the building faced the lagoon where many boats were docked. The room was spacious, the king bed was comfortable and there was a kitchenette if you wanted to save some money on meals. Some damage to the outside of the buildings from the recent hurricane is still noticeable. A nine hole golf course resides directly across the street but we chose to go for a swim instead. The pool was nice but could have been cleaner. A tiki bar sat poolside and the adjacent food service cooked pizzas only. We ate pizza and had drinks until late in the evening while talking with locals and other guests including a very nice mom and daughter from WI, who were on their way back from Key West. It wasn't a spectacular bar but it was relaxing and required no driving to get back to the room. Socializing was the highlight of the Skipjack. We had their continental breakfast which wasn't very special but was included in the price. Some guests were having breakfast on the balconies as we made our way back to the room to pack. Overall, the room was great and we really didn't get to appreciate it because we spent so little time in it. The Skipjack did not have the greatest resort amenities but some unique ones like a boat launch and a beach shuttle. I would certainly stay at the Skipjack Resort & Marina again. read more

The whole resort is amazing. We have been "island hopping" and stopped here for a night. The hospitality is unlike any place I've ever been! They welcome you upon check-in with beverage tickets, give you free breakfast and a ton of amenities. Complimentary bikes, games, ping pong, kayaks - you name it they offer it or will find a way to make it happen! Debbie, the manager is top notch on her game, making sure everyone is having a good time. The bar guys, Ward & Luke are exceptional with service and hospitality.. Very friendly, accommodating & go out of their way to make your experience the best. The restaurant menu is very affordable, and the food is so delicious!! They are family owned and operated, and they got skills!! We suggest the dynamite shrimp, steak tacos & their fries! (These aren't just any type of fries, y'all!) We visit the keys quite a lot. My wife and I stayed at skipjack for a quick weekend getaway. The room was spacious and clean. The water pressure in the bathroom is less then to be desired, and funny enough it was hard to get a consistent water temperature in the shower. The pool area was clean and the poolside furniture was fairly new. The staff were helpful and informative. The breakfast isn't worth the time in my opinion. You are better off going to one of the local diners and paying roughly $30/for two and getting some good food. Cold bagels and over cooked scrambled eggs just are not our thing. Lol The views are not great at all. The "marina" is full of boats that look as if they haven't moved in years and are being used as apartments. If you are looking for a resort experience this is not the place. If you are looking for a clean spacious room so you can enjoy the islands this place will do. We come down here to fish and shop so it worked for us. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Ate at the sushi restaurant last night. Being a beautiful balmy evening, we ate outside. The sushi was very good. The drinks were weak. Service was good and attentive. Our evening would have been more enjoyable without the cigar and cigarette smoke. Even though we were outside, the stench seemed to fill the air. To make it worse, the individual smoking the cigar about 30 feet from us seemed to be acquainted with some of the staff as they sat down with him from time to time to join in a smoke. Could this cigar smoking man be the owner? While the sushi was good, we will not go back. read more

Not worth the price. $340 for this one bedroom suite makes me cringe. This includes the $28 resort fee that is still a question mark to me. The main complaints are the horribly musky smell in our room, and the very disgusting drapes that had spider droppings on them and mold. We also needed a few more blankets and pillows because we used the pullout couch and we were short a few pillows and a blanket or two. The positives are the new furniture, and the beautiful pool area (even though it was too cool to use. I can say that I think the owners are trying to make this place worth the price they are charging. We booked this at the last minute and quite honestly I wouldn't stay here again. read more

Skip over Skipjack. :( The pictures of this place are incredibly deceiving. The rooms you can tell are recently renovated, which was the only reason I stayed. The place is overall genuinely sketchy and in a sketchy area, which I didn't think "sketchy" areas really existed in the Keys. It appears residents live on property. There aren't any views besides the main road and the parking lot, unless you walk out your door to see the canal. The pool is decent. The breakfast was as continental as it gets with some bread, yogurt, and cereal, and lousy coffee. They also have a hidden resort fee, which I don't know how you can classify this place as resort. First night here, room and location is great. Unfortunately, we went to the restaurant and the service was scattered, uncoordinated and many people were having billing issues. It took over 20 minutes to take our card and then the blue haired older waitress LOST it! So we're now on vacation with no credit card! She spent zero effort to find it. While I was checking under tables and revisiting common paths I found her in the back and she just rechecked her pockets and shrugged and tried to blame other people. She literally gave zero F's she lost my credit card. If you're staying here and are hungry just walk a smidge down the docks, past the fence to dockside. Where they don't ruin your trip. read more

Overall I was impressed with the condition and recent renovation of the room and facility. You can tell the property has some age to it, but it's surprisingly nice in certain places. But what I'm here to talk about is the $30 per day resort fee. I mean what's up with this resort fee. According to the hotel it covers: continental breakfast (muffin and coffee), pool, towels, WiFi, in room safe, parking, housekeeping. For real?? What's the purpose of the hotel charge and wouldn't you think towels, housekeeping, safe, WiFi, and pool would be included in this. Even a crap hole like Super 8 gives you a ratty towel, WiFi and housekeeping. In conclusion I'm only complaining about the resort fee in principle because I've stayed at places with them and those serve a better purpose. Me and my wife took our honeymoon and decided to visit Marathon, Florida. We found this location through a travel website and gave them a call. The first thing that was a problem for us was the sales guy stating we had a up-front Harbor view, but when we got to the "Hotel" not "Resort" and there was a building obstructing our view. We walked in after receiving our keys and everything looked decent until I noticed ants crawling around the bottom of our bed. I killed about 15 before stepping outside and noticed over 100 crawling up and down the balcony door trying to get in. Maintenance did come ASAP and took care of the problem right away, however instead of taking initiative and putting us in a new room we were told. " If you have any more problems let us know and we can switch you." In my opinion, they should of switched us right away... this is our honeymoon... On the balcony one of our chairs were broken.. this leads me to believe nobody even checked our room before we checked in.... Another issue we had were the floors being extremely dirty. The first 2 nights the bottom of our feet were so dirty we had to rinse off in the shower before getting into bed. This problem was brought up to the General Managers attention and she seemed very irritated that we were having so many issues. She insisted it was the contractors fault and sent someone to clean our floor. We have screenshots of how nasty the floor was but unfortunately not sure how to post those. After bringing up all of these problems to the GM she seemed extremely irritated and frustrated AT US for having problems at HER HOTEL. She was quick to get me off the phone and was very passive aggressive most of the conversation This is what upset me the most. She offered to give us a 50$ food voucher.. instead of pro rating our rate for the bad experience we had with them. We spent $1,200 for a place we left 3 days early because it was that bad. We let them know we were leaving early because of everything that happened and asked if they could call corporate to refund us for the days we would not be spending there. They said they would get in contact with them. After 3 phone calls and 2 voicemails nobody has returned any calls concerning our experience with them. I understand COVID has put a toll on businesses, but none of what happened was acceptable as a customer on their honeymoon. We have photos of the floor being wiped with a napkin, and one swipe on the ground the napkin was a dark black color. Also a video of the ants in our room and balcony. Very upset with the experience at Skip-jack and even more upset for how we were handled. read more

So I just checked into my room today 4/17/21 and so far I am really impressed with this place. I have an immune system issue which requires me to cook and eat very specific foods and they helped me out with a burner and some pans so that I can stay on course with my medical needs. The room is very nice and there is a nice view of the marina. I will update this post if anything crazy happens but with how I've been treated so far I don't see that happening. Marina seems nice. The owner is super cool and relaxed. On site Greek restaurant needs a deep clean. Band playing that night was mediocre at best. First of all, do not believe any of the raving reviews here. This is a debilitated condo complex with some people living here full time. The owners pump it to get some money coming in. I would never stay here ever again! Reasons are plenty and each one is enough to ruined vacation. - this building is backwards. The walk way faces the canal, the balcony faces the parking lot, trashed (former) tennis courts, and dumpsters. Who wants a dumpster view when in the Keys? - there's no water pressure. Shower took 5x longer than usual to get the soap out of the hair, and every trip to the toilet is a 2 flush. - the bed is some cheap IKEA style build-by-numbers horror show with very hard mattress and unstable platform. You can't make a move, even just slightly shift your body, without waking up everyone. It is VERY noisy, probably the noisiest bed I ever slept in. - kitchenette is inadequate. It had the smallest fridge we ever saw. Dishes in the cabinet were not clean. - breakfast is a train wreck. Took 20 min of complete chaos to get a dry bagel and cold, hard egg. - the pool is disgusting. It's too small for way too many people who drink alcohol all day. I never saw anyone walk to the bathroom. - pool deck is dirty, people here leave their trash everywhere. There was still breakfast trash sitting out in the afternoon, nobody cared to pick that up. - there are people living in non-seaworthy boats right out back. That was unexpected and a little creepy. Although our stay, overall, was a disappointing experience, there are a few good things that earn the 2-star rating: The rooms are decently renovated. There's a private boat ramp to launch own kayaks. We saw manatees in the canal. Free bicycle rentals. Some evenings have life entertainment by the pool. Owners appear to try, but there's only so much lipstick you can put on a pig. This is not a place we'd care to ever visit again. There are so many other options. read more
