We stayed at this resort while exploring all the way down to Key West, and it was very convenient. It's a small, one-level property, which we liked. The rooms were spacious, clean, and reasonably priced. There's a small area for sunbathing, but it's not really suitable for swimming. The location is great--close to Walgreens and several restaurants. The only downside was that the sign was hard to see when driving back at night, and the entrance is a narrow driveway that fits only one car at a time. We only stayed here one night but probably would not stay here again, I have certain expectations when I stay at a resort and this is far from it. We did choose this hotel because it was pet friendly. I wonder if this place was recently renovated... but maybe more like a flip and rebrand. Absolutely loved staying here for a week in a half during May, in addition to the very clean rooms, comfortable beds and the service staff we had an exceptional stay and would definitely return again and recommend family and friends. , we saw some parrot fish, a really nice big, black and white striped angelfish birds everywhere they also have boat ramp and dockage and a big cleaning station. Easy walking access to Publix 10 minute walk or Racetrac which has great coffee in the mornings and a eight flavored fro station with a dessert bar to boot at a surprise small and large ice cream cones you just can't go wrong staying here!!!.. read more

The best little motel in Marathon! The sunsets are stunning! We love the efficiency room,it has a little kitchenette. The bed is comfy, clean and the air is cold! At sunset everyone goes down to the beachy area and watches the sunset. One of the best things about this place is the Hurricane bar and grill attached to the property! Staff was very helpful to me and my family. There are bbq grills, but make sure you bring your own charcoal. They will kindly loan you equipment. The photos of the lookout point are not to scale. There are dock slips with hammocks in the back, but not very close to most of the room. Pool is unheated so don't plan on any late night swims. You gotta get in your car to drive to Sombreo Beach. If you are a clean freak like me whose eyes wonder in every crevice they shouldn't - I wouldn't recommend. If you're a go with the flow kind of gal who doesn't focus on details then you'll probably give this place 4-5 stars. PROS: The room was tidy and smelled good. Very nice little marina and outside area with grills, mini lighthouse, hammock, chairs, & tiki Comfortable bed & pillows Daily room cleaning/fresh towels Working tv/fridge/AC Friendly staff Shampoo/soap provided CONS: The floor was filthy, don't recommend walking barefoot in the room unless you want black feet. There was mold in areas of the sink & bathtub. Bathtub was cracked, which made water travel under it and feel like you're walking on a water mattress. Don't recommend looking at the corners/baseboards of the room, they are very dirty. The area under the sink had weird discoloration as if a drip had occurred and was never taken care of. Weak wifi They AC did make a leaking noise and spit out water when on high Overall, this is a very outdated place and definitely not the cleanest. I cringed on the daily when my eyes wondered. Very simple things that could be fixed if taken the time to do so by management. The outside area is the biggest pro for this location, but at the same time, you're in the keys so every outside area has an amazing view. Perhaps the best review one can offer is a commitment to stay there again in the near future. That is my decision after my first visit. This resort is described as "early settler" in Florida vernacular, meaning instead of modern amenities, the Blackfin overflows with 50's kitsch. Everything was spotless. The appliances performed flawlessly. After bearing the brunt of Category 5 Hurricane Irma just 4 months ago, all but the landscaping has a fresh, bright appearance about it. While still recovering, the trees and plants are lush and appealing. When it comes to Keys hospitality and friendliness, the Blackfin comes out on top. Slowed by traffic, the manager called to let us know our room was waiting and told us the key would be under the mat if the office was closed. Sure enough, the key cards were easily found, and the room lights were on for us! Departure was equally pleasant as a quick stop was made at the office to drop off the key cards, meet the day manager, and offer compliments on a really pleasant experience. read more

Pictures of course are deceiving.....this place could be nice with a lot of work. Rooms are below par! Ex: bathroom door has water damage. They didn't even try to cover it up. Bathtub is squishy..feel like your going to fall thru to floor any minute and slow to drain and all sorts of grout missing. Rooms need to be painted and bedspreads from the "80's". Sort of clean?? Found lots of mold on baseboards! Sooo what's behind the walls!!! So my question is, who inspects these places before they can re-open? And shame on them. Let's start with the good. The guys that work there are friendly and practice great customer service. The marina in back is vey nice and there ia "beach" with a swimming area. The "beach" is manmade spot that we really enjoyed. There are plenty of chairs to catch some rays, a tiki hut over a picnic table, a hammock and a two-person swing that we took advantage of a few times. The water in the swimming area is that beautiful blue that you look for when you visit the Keys and you can easily snorkel right there. They have a couple of lights in the water that attract fish at night. There is a swimming pool, which was clean and warm. Now the bad. The room cleaning crew needs to work harder and actually clean. We had reserved a single room (very tiny) and when we got there I had to close the door to the bathroom so my wife wouldn't see it. There were hairs on the floor and the side of the tub/shower and a dirty cup stuffed behind the pedestal sink. I cleaned up quickly and we headed out for the evening. The next morning my wife was in the shower and it was backing up on her. That was enough to go to the front desk, The gentleman at the front desk was truly concerned and took notes of my complaints. We were promptly given a new room, an efficency that was much more comfy, a lot larger and closer to the beach. The towels are the cheapest possible towels you could buy and the whole place could use some upgrades. The downsides of the place I blame on the owners-put some money into this place and reap the rewards. You probably can't find a cheaper place in Marathon and if the owners put some money into it, Blackfin can be a really cool place to stay. We enjoyed our stay and if they put some work iin, it could be pretty nice. read more

When you decide to go to the Keys during late March, you're taking a major gamble. One, that there won't be a ton of Spring breakers (there always are), and two-that you'll be able to afford a room. I found this place on Trip Advisor on New Year's and seeing as we needed 2 rooms for me and BF's folks, when I saw a decent price, WE BOOKED IT. This is by no means close to Key West if that's your destination. If you plan on getting silly on Duval Street, pick a DD or plan on shelling out $100+ for an Uber-they will come all the way out here, I looked. That being said, this is a small Keys-style resort B&B, not a large hotel resort. Check in was 2-10 pm only. We got back from Key West around 12:20 am, so we had to call ahead around 8pm and ask that our room keys be placed under the appropriate room mats. Luckily there was no issue getting in or we would have been in big trouble. The rooms were really nice inside-each 2 double beds of good size with a mini fridge and microwave, and a clean bathroom and TV, nothing special-but nothing compared to some of the run down places you'll see (and pay for!). I saw vending machines around if you were so inclined, and there was a pool, free wifi, and a marina in the back as well as space for RVs. It really was more of a resort type complex. As we left in the morning it looks like they have excursions like snorkeling and fishing that go out of here as well. Also nice to note was that this place was pet friendly. I didn't bring my pup but it's nice to have the option. Not sure if there was a fee to do so. The one thing I did find annoying is that the AC unit didn't do a very good job of keeping the room very cool-we had it cranked all the way down to 66 and were sleeping on the bed closest to the unit and were still hot. If there were people on the other bed they likely would have been roasting. I know there isn't much central air in the keys and it was 85 that day but the unit likely needed replacing. I would stay here again for sure, I didn't have direct interaction with the staff but I was satisfied with what we got for the price. I wouldn't stay here if I was going all the way down to Key West, but for a lot of people going on fishing trips and the like, this is a great little place to stay and dock your boat or lay your head. read more

If your looking for a classy, state-of-the-art, modern luxury hotel - this is not it. The rooms are outdated, and the housekeeping is lacking in detail (we found beer bottles stuffed behind the television when we checked in). Still, overall, the room was tidy and functional. There is a area in the back that overlooks the ocean, provides boat mooring, and is perfect for fishing. I'm not sure that I would use this area for swimming, but it is prefect for sitting, enjoying the breeze, and having a few drinks. Having said all of that, the front desk was amiable and helpful, the rooms are adequate, and the price is affordable. If your looking for a place to rest your head while you enjoy the area, then this is a great spot for you. read more

First of all you have to level set your expectations for the price - it's not the place to go for a romantic weekend getaway, but it's the perfect place to go for a fishing trip. The marina has unlimited free ice for people docking their boat. Dockage rates are some of the cheapest for anyway in the keys. The on-site boat ramp works at all tide levels. Location on the gulf is great for people with smaller boats because if the Atlantic is rough you can still save the day with some gulf fishing. It's walkable to a couple restaurants or could easily ride your bike to several. The gentleman who runs the front desk is extremely friendly and lives on-site in the marina. The generous cancellation policy is the main reason we keep coming back. My only complaint is that the beds could be a little comfier, but after being out on the water all day I usually don't have any issues sleeping anyway. read more

We staid at this resort because my fiancé parents where leaving on a Saturday and we wanted to stay an extra day. It is really nice here they have a marina in the back where you can drop your boat and string it up. They say they have a beach but its not a beach at all. But it is a great place to watch a sunset. The room is nice sizes and has a refrigerator and microwave. The room comes with a flat screen tv. The bed was very confirtable also. I think you have to request an alarm because there isn't on in the room. Would definitely come back here. Also they have rooms with full kitchens for longer stays. We didn't expect much when we booked but wow, it was so much more when we checked in. Our room was so nice. It was designed with a beach motif. The property was great, it had two gardens that were lit, a path to the beach with slips and beautiful boats of all sizes. The path leads to a small lighthouse with circular seating facing the water. The restaurant looked like a hole in the wall but it had GREAT pub food. I had the best meatball grinder and he had a grouper sandwich that was wonderful. So we've been coming here for over a decade with no problems. But for some reason this fella named "Chris" (the owner) decided to take a turn for the worst. My brother and his wife and kid were awoken every night to what sounded like something under the bathtub. Rightfully so, they decided to ask if there was any options to get another room. When they brought up the noise in the bathroom, the manager said its probably an iguana stuck under the tub. Unfortunately they were all booked up, so the delt with it. Then the next morning my brother's son found and old slim Jim half eaten under there bed, after dealing with another sleepless night because of the iguana under the tub. Again they proceeded to tell the manager and that's where Chris comes in yelling saying "you guys found that this morning"? My brother says "yes". Chris said, "how do I know you didn't plant it there"? Doesn't offer any help or compensation for what they've gone through and decided to call the cops and kick my brother, his wife, and 2 year old son out of the hotel. The cop was amazing and said we have a case for court if we wanted to. So with that being said, good luck "Chris", well be seeing ya bud. read more

Stayed here in April for 2 days and it was better than I expected. The man at the front desk was so nice and helpful. The room was very clean. It's not a high end hotel meaning updated modern everything, but it was perfect for us. Stayed for 4 days, and loved it! The outside is very dated, but the inside is nice and spacious. The man at the front desk is very friendly. Bar & grill is right in front. The housekeeping doesn't pay much attention to detail, there was a long black hair under my pillow (I'm blonde, so it wasn't mine) and a half used bar of soap on the bathroom window sill. This resort provided us with a clean, simple room in a great location. The gentleman at the front desk was welcoming, helpful and had a laid back attitude . The real gem here is the back area that hosts a marina, an area to swim and seating to relax, watch the sunset or to just chat with the other friendly guests. The restaurant next door has good pub type food and a very cool Lego display of South Beach. Worth popping in to just see that. We would very likely stay here again next time in the Keys. read more
