You know if it's a family restaurant/local spot, I've got to give it a rating. I pass this cute little spot every time I go up to the cottage, and this past weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to stop and try it. Definitely a cute, non-scammy place to grab a quick bite - all prices are reasonable and taxes are included. Cash only, and no $100s accepted, which kind of sucks but I can understand why. They are definitely a popular spot in this rural area. They have a bunch of different options, shrimp, fries, funnel fries (literally fries made like a funnel cake, whaaa), deep fried mushrooms, poutine (my boyfriend had this and it was great. The large was quite small but quality was amazing with cheese curds and gravy layering every few fries down or so), and many other munchies. They also have a dog/sit down area behind it so you can enjoy the meal there if you'd like. My fave part is ...ice cream, of course! I am the ice cream connoisseur and I was delighted to see kawartha's dairy being served. Huge heaping scoops on a waffle cone = $4.75 only!! We had two waffles cones with double scoops (and their flavours change all the time) and the overall price was just under $10.. prices you don't hear of in ice cream shops in the city! Service is always with a smile, even though I'm sure it's boiling hot in the little shack while they're cooking, scooping etc. I think I'll make this a regular stop on the way up north every time! read more

In the world of food truck offerings during summer in Ontario, I'm finding it harder and harder to find exceptional places to eat. Every truck seems to have its good and bad points, and this one was no exception. We stopped here very hungry on our way north on Friday. I'd been to this truck a few times over the years, but not enough to remember what was good at it. We ended up getting a fish sandwich, chicken sandwich, and fries to share. First off, I've got to note that the staff were very friendly and fun. A young girl (I'm talking 8 or 9 years old) was taking orders, with the supervision of her mother (the cook). This lent a nice charm to the place. It was a slow process though, as she seemed to be just learning the ropes, so I hope they found someone else to do the order and money taking once the crowds started. Once we did get through the ordering process, paid, and got our food; everything except the fries was wrong. Wrong drinks, and wrong toppings on the burgers (not even close either - including tartar sauce on the chicken burger, and mustard on the fish burger, which we didn't order on either sandwich!). I definitely think this was due to the inexperienced order taker. I brought all items back for fixing or exchange, and they were happy, apologetic, and quick to fix things. Now for the food: The fries were fine. Nothing great or terrible about them - just average chip truck fries. The fish sandwich was delicious. Full of flavour, and seemed a good size. The chicken sandwich was terrible. VERY over cooked and dry, and pretty tasteless to boot. Cost was on the high side of average. Definitely not worth the meal we got. With so many other options out there, I think we'll be trying a number of other ones before maybe giving this a try again. read more

This place is easy to miss. It is just on the side of the road in the same lot as the Shell gas station. I have driven by it before and wanted to give it a try, and I am glad I did! First of all, they have really good ice cream that they do not charge an arm and a leg for. Especially since it is quite a rural area near the cottages, I'm happy they are not price gouging. A double scoop in a waffle cone is $4.75 taxes included. I had the large poutine ($7) and although the size was a bit underwhelming, it is pretty decent. The fries are done very well and are super tasty. They also layer the gravy and cheese curds so its not just no the surface of the poutine which is a huge plus. I also had a regular milkshake ($4.75) which is about the size between a tall and grande cup from Starbucks. They do use a bit more milk so it is immediately drinkable, but I like my milkshakes thick. Great if you want a treat while you drive, but if you have the time, get the ice cream instead! Oh, the place is CASH ONLY. Overall, they still have a bunch of items I haven't tried but I am looking forward to trying them one day. It's a great little spot near cottage country and would make a great stop/treat for a family or even just a person. read more

This is THE best place to stop on our way north. We have stopped here for fish and chips as well as hamburgers, poutine, hot dogs, sausages, chicken fingers and ice cream! We are always treated like we are their only customer and the food is extremely good!!! I am very particular about my food and will drive for good food. I stopped by here today with my three year old nephew and the woman serving the ice cream gave me his for free!!!! I was so happy and she was so accommodating by giving us his three flavours in a bowl. I had to write a recommendation as this place needs to be on Yelp - as a definite place to stop! Customer service is really bad. They are all very miserable in the place. They missed an item when entering in their system (because the fan is too load behind the counter). Instead of having the order of fries put in we would have to wIt another 45min. Next time we will go to Queen of Fries in Norland. VERY rude people at this location. :-( read more

Went here in the summer of 2017 and let me tell ya..it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I ordered the chicken fingers with fries and gravy and it was not only cooked to perfection, the gravy was that brown type that goes the best in poutine! It was definitely a memorable experience that I felt the need to post this in the middle of winter! Will go back again for sure!! read more
