My children have been attending Skipwith Academy for several years. The teachers are very communicative and helpful with any issues -- biting and potty training being the ones that I've seen the most help. For instance, we found that one of my kids really liked a certain toy in the classroom, so as an incentive for using the potty, they get to use that special toy by themselves for a set period of time without any interruption from friends. My other child, when at that age, was given the opportunity to walk up the winding staircase as a reward because that was the most wanted item. The teachers are easy to work with for kids with food allergies, as well. In addition to a wonderful program with great teachers, they also have additional services that come in - such as soccer and dance. These programs are optional but are a great value, if it is an interest of your child. The daycare is always clean. The events are fun. The outdoor equipment is always in good repair. The menu is always varied, so that even the fussy kids might have something that they like at one of the meals. My kids were in more expensive daycares before and not nearly as happy as they are at Skipwith. Being in a giant house makes it much more warm and inviting than the other facilities, which felt more like an institution. I couldn't recommend Skipwith highly enough. read more

Skipwith Academy on Townes Road is an exceptional school for infants though Kidergarten. They even have an after school program for older kids and summer camp program. Both of my children attended/attend Skipwith Academy. I have been a supportive parent of Skipwith Academy for 7 years! The staff is phenomenal and I cannot say enough about the time, love, and attention that they show each child. Their age appropriate programs are fun and my kids literally ask to go to school every day! The facilities are very clean and they serve a healthy well balanced daily breakfast, lunch, and snack at no extra charge. In addition, they open from 6:30am to 6:30pm (at no extra charge for early drop off (at 6:30am or a late stay (at 6:30pm) which is very convenient for working parents! Both of my children have attended Skipwith since they were infants. My oldest will be beginning kindergarten in the Fall and I have no doubt he will be ahead of the game due to what he has learned at Skipwith. Although my daughter is only two, she has blown me away (just like my son did) with everything she has learned there. My children are always happy, they LOVE their teachers and are always happy to go to "school" in the morning. We feel as if they are an extended part of our family. I have seen first hand how extraordinary this school really is. The building is so unique and holds so much history and beauty. The playgrounds are large and well maintained, and there is even a pool! The employees are wonderful to the children! The kids always seem happy, engaged and I'm confident they are safe. There are quite a few teachers and families that have been attending the school for over a decade, which is very impressive.The longevity of families and staff clearly are something most people such as myself would look for in any preschool. My children have been to other reputable daycares, and this one tops them all! I have a hard time getting my children to leave at the end of the day. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to keep you updated on your children's progress or troubles while listening intently to any concerns that you have. The programing perfectly balances age appropriate learning and play, especially the Montessorri program. I have been taking and picking up my Grandson at Skipwith Academy for two years. He absolutely loves it and so do his parents and I. It does not matter what time of day that I may show up, I am always greeted very kindly by the staff and the class is having fun and under complete control of the teachers. They sincerely take an interest in each child and their needs! I have complete confidence in them and on top of all the fun, he has learned so much in this loving environment. Skipwith Academy has helped me to raise a bright, kind, funny little boy. Their Montessori program starting at age 2 is something I've not seen elsewhere, and has made such a big difference in my son's life. The teachers are all so kind and loving, and make me feel like he is in great hands when I can't be with him. I drive out of my way every day to keep him there after we moved a bit further away. My daughter is in Skipwith since she was 1.5 years old. She is over 4 yrs now. She loves her school, her teachers and her little friends. The best thing of the school is the teachers.
