The Distillery is right off of the loops main road and features a gravel parking lot with ample space. Per its name, the distillery is known for its ciders and its fruit distilled spirits. Our group opted for one flight of cider, and one flight of spirits. For the spirits, we got two fruit vodkas, a gin, and an apple brandy. All four had a nice fruit essence on the nose. The vodkas tasted as you would expect and the gin had a semi sweet, lightly herbaceous taste. My favorite was the apple brandy which was sweeter with a more discernible apple taste. I did not drink too much of the ciders, but the others at the table expressed that they did enjoy them. They were light and not overly sweet, which is a plus for me, as I feel many ciders are too sweet. There was only one gentleman working behind the bar who was kind and executed our orders within a few minutes.

Every single wine in the flight was good, which is rare. My absolute favorite was the Mourvèdre, a serious red with dark fruit and notes of spice. Complex, yet easily drinkable. Their Mourvèdre blend was also a standout. Upside down Wine is located right on Oak, the main street in Hood River and located right next to the clothing store, Parts and Labour. The name is very subtle over the door so if you aren't intending to go here, you most likely will walk right by. Don't! The very stark, modern interior, which feels a bit sterile, comes alive with warmth from the friendly service and the chatter and laughter of other patrons. You can stand along the long bar, European style, or sit at a high top for two or in comfy chairs in the back. Now that I've had the opportunity to visit the wineries in Hood River and the Gorge multiple times, previous faves no longer hold a candle to some of my new favorites. Could be that my palette has become more refined, who knows? I just know that my top 5 list contains none of my original choices and Upside Down wine is now in the list!

Deep flavor but still light enough to drink with a variety of meals or on their own. As soon as I tasted them, I knew bottles were coming home with me! When out in this area, near White Salmon, make a point to stop in. Park on the lawn so you don't block the driveway and walk right up to the yellow house. Tastings are in the garage. Fast forward, we planned a stop at Loop De Loop after hiking Multnomah and Wahkeena Falls. It was one of the best surprises of the whole trip to Oregon. I expected Loop De Loop to be a small, modest vineyard and instead I discovered an absolutely stunning vineyard nestled in the picturesque hills of the Columbia Valley. I opted for the full tasting and I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed the breadth and diversity of the wine offerings. And the wine is made organically!!! We actually enjoyed the wine and experience at Loop De Loop more than any vineyard we visited in Williamette Valley. We also tried the cheese plate and tinned fish, which were delicious. The venue has indoor and outdoor seating. I love the decor and art throughout the building. Service was really good. I dont recall the name of the young woman with red hair helping us out, but she was fantastic. This place gets pretty busy so I recommend reservations. Definitely check it out! Locaged in Mosier, I didn't realize that there were vineyards in and fruit orchards here, having always stopped in Hood River and Parkdale, never venturing further west. But just five miles past Hood River, the charming town of Mosier with its incredible vistas, trails, vineyards and orchards exists and can stand in its own. Smaller, quaint and even more charming and laid back than its much larger neighbor. The outdoor area here is beautiful with incredible river views and in the other direction, Mt. Hood. There is a covered area outdoors and seating on the lawn for those craving sun. All precautions were taken during Covid to ensure safety and an enjoyable experience. The wines are delicious! Rich, dark, bigger - reminding me of Zins. My preference is for the bigger and bolder reds so I was very happy with the wines I tasted. If you buy a bottle, the tasting fees are waived, and I was happy to buy a few to enjoy back home. The Cab Franc was my favorite and I also enjoyed the Syrah/Grenache blend. The staff happily educated me on the wines while asking me about my preferences to find a match. They shared the history of the surrounding area and the original inhabitants. Nearby Memaloose island was a burial sight for the Indian tribes that lived in this region, who did not bury the dead but created vaults on the island. This was the first time I tried Memaloose wines and I'm so glad I did! I'll definitely stop here again and next time plan on driving on into Washington to try the wines there. I realized that the beauty and good wines just starts in Hood River but there is so much more to this incredible area! Time to explore!

I first noticed Wilderton at my favorite New Seasons location and was very excited to see them start construction on their tasting room in Hood River. I've been wanting to visit for months and finally got up early enough to finish my snowshoe adventure at Hood Meadows early enough to get here before they closed. And I'm so glad I made the effort to visit! All I wanted to do was simply try all their goods. I discovered that they have your traditional tasting flight...and more. Their taster provides a sample of all of their "spirits". But they also provide a taste of each spirit with a mixer that pairs well with it, such as tonic water, spritz, and ginger ale. So that was a great, and unexpected, addition. They also offer a selection of full cocktails with each spirit and a seasonal cocktail. This time it was the Chai Old Fashioned so I enjoyed that. It's a small, cozy spot in the midst of their production room so it's a neat place to sample the goods and the service was very knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. I'm really glad I visited and I really wish them well!

I hope they can strike perhaps a better balance in the botanicals they produce and perhaps come up with a couple other varietals as two of the three seemed to have similar pairing profiles. The third was a little more earthy and paired better with a bourbon or whiskey but seemed to overpower rather than complement the alcoholic spirit. I saw some other review talked about the credit card machine and printed information; they had all that when I went which was definitely helpful!
