On our way home from a trip to Hood River we decided to stop here for a quick bite to eat and drink. We are so glad we stopped. We live in Redmond and were just going to wait until we got home to grab something but now we are excited to make a Saturday trip back to Madras. The drinks and pizza we ordered were very good and reasonably priced. Madras is stepping up

From the moment we met owner Rick after we arrived, we knew we would enjoy this place. They use flavored balsamic vinegars for their cocktails and after sampling a few varieties, it did not take us long to discover our favorites! Allie was friendly and competent behind the bar and there are three fantastic food trucks on property (one open in the mornings for coffee and breakfast which we did not try and two for dinner, both of which we did try). I didn't think I would find anything to eat at The Rusty Swine but owner Kina made me a scrumptious Caesar salad! The pizzas at Whiskey pie were delicious thin crust and slightly larger than personal size (good for one hungry person or enough for two less hungry to share). Lots of locals hang out here and we struck up conversations with a few. Located just north of the small town of Madras, I highly recommend this place for its creative cocktails, great food trucks, and fun vibe!

Great place & great whiskey & vodka. Josh was a great host when we drove up as our first Harvest Host camping spot. Thoroughly enjoyed learning about the distillery & the awesome tastings. Thank you Josh for the great time & all the information you passed on about your beautiful location & state.

Excellent small barrel distillery that is passionate about their craft. Was there just a few days before the solar eclipse for a tour and tasting and was totally impressed with all aspects of our visit starting with the hospitality and friendliness of everyone. Excellent whiskey and their Rye is unbelievable. Killer food from local vendors. You must stop if you are near Madras. You will not be disappointed. Thanks Rick for signing my bottles of Stronger.

Had a great first visit to New Basin. Very friendly staff, especially our host Josh, pictured below. Try their wheat whiskey!

Besides the whiskey we bought, I also got a sample package of 4 different flavors of vinegar to try.

Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and did not rush us through our meal. We prefer to eat and drink leisurely, with conversation, food, and wine framing the evening. The cocktail (Negroni) was very good; the wine list was very good. Entrees and appetizers were all tasty and fresh. We all greatly enjoyed our visit to The Open Door.

I ordered the…read morepasta dish for $25 which was supposed to come with [a] " white wine blue cheese sauce, chicken, fresh cherry tomatoes and chopped basil". I also ordered the $3 baguette and a mocktail for $10. The pasta dish was a massive disappointment. I had to search for the chicken such was the limited amount in the dish. There was a minimal amount of cherry tomatoes. The supposed "white wine blue cheese sauce" was missing from the pasta also. There was no Parmesan Reggiano cheese offered at the onset or freshly ground pepper. Perhaps The Open Door is not that kind of culinary experience. I rarely complain when I visit restaurants as I try to do my due diligence before I go. I spoke with the waitress, manager and one other lady who came by to check on me. I was told they could bring me some more tomatoes, etc. However, the dish should have contained sufficient ingredients to warrant its description which it didn't. Pasta is one of the cheapest mainstays in the restaurant business, but The Open Door's pasta dish took this to a whole new low. As for the baguette, I was given four tiny half slices of bread and not a baguette. In hindsight, I would have been better served going to the Sisters Smokehouse and Deli and ordering their Tri-Tip Sandwich - which is delicious BTW- than wasting my $ here at The Open Door.

The place is eclectic decorated with old bicycles hanging on the wall, a 60's convertible Corvette with a flat tire, and old rusted out 30's / 40's Ford Pick up truck full of bullet holes "Bonny and Clyde gangster style." There's also a dinosaur on one table and a few more at the front door. You got to spend some time here and look around. Drink some beer. Get a buzz! Particularly eat some of the thin crust pizza. Takes three days to prep the pizza. One day for the yeast to rise. Second day for hand rolled balls to set and rise. Third day to press pies out. Darn good pizza we tried the #7 fig, bacon, feta and mozzarella with tomato sauce and the pepperoni. Lots and lots of out door dining that is shaded for a hot day or with heat lamps for a cold day. Hop vines growing on the walls. Go here, you're gonna love it if you're a hop head and a pizza lover. Crooked River is straight up fun grub, food and games. The games are table hockey, pool table, foos-ball and yes that all American favorite sport - corn hole beanbag toss!

The free beer and samples were good and I don't drink beer normally but I did have the Lemonade one and it was very good. I did enjoy it. When the tour was over they gave us a 15% off coupon to visit their downtown, original brewery site and we had dinner there which was also excellent. I would do this again and highly recommend it if you are in Bend.

I opted for the Patagonia Provisions Organic Lager, and it was light and refreshing. Our tour guide was very informative and high energy. You can tell that employees take a lot of pride, especially since they're dubbed co-owners. The tour included a walk through of how beer is made and a peek inside their facilities. I'm not new to beer, so I wasn't sure how much I'd learn; however, my interest was piqued when our tour guide started talking about how sustainable Deschutes' practices are. They even treat their own water! We had some tastes along the way. My only critique is that our tour felt long (~ 2 hours) and there weren't many spots to sit, so be prepared to be on your feet the entire time. My partner and I stopped by the tasting room after - we didn't buy any cans, but enjoyed sampling the latest party bombs on tap. I loved the frozen version too! We left with merch, coupons for their downtown brewpub, and exclusive tour stickers!
