Came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was jam packed, which is why I knocked off 1 star. The aisles are way too tiny for so many people to push carts around, resulting in tons of traffic. The highlight of today's trip was that there was a lady giving out samples of sautéed Japan flower mushrooms. They were heavenly. She was extremely helpful and taught all the customers how to pick the best mushrooms. She even taught us step by step how to prepare the dish. I frequent this SkyFoods location over the one in Rego Park due to the parking lot situation (indoor, free 3 hour parking) and the convenience of having Target in the same complex. I always end up spending less for a week's worth of grocery when I shop at a Chinese Supermarket; I also end up with more vegetables in my cart since they also carry Asian veggies like bitter melon, opo squash, daikon,lotus roots and Chinese celery (the leaves are used with the stalks), There is also a variety of mushrooms to be found. The shiitake mushrooms here are dirt cheap compared to the ones sold at regular supermarket, the same applies to napa cabbage. In the meat and seafood section, you'll see different cuts and lots of whole fish. The seafood are cheaper here but they don't really convey where these are from: if they are wild or farmed, or what region they are from. You can try asking but I don't know how far that will get you. Their seafood section can be a hit or miss, and the mongers sometimes are not really helpful and can be sneaky. If you know how to tell a whole fish is fresh, you'll be fine. There is a small prepared food section in the back of the supermarket, behind the fresh produce area. The food is pretty decent and it is so inexpensive - I can never finish one by myself. The non spicy pigs ears are good and so are the stewed bellies. Since nothing is perfect, the downside of SkyFoods is that there are very few organic produce (I only recall some mushroom at the moment) and shelf products. While this is a Chinese supermarket, you can find Japanese, Korean and Southeast Asian goods in the aisles (Filipino SunSilk shampoo, anyone?). And yes, even I gawk from time to time at the products they sell here. read more

My boyfriend and I stop by here once in a blue moon when we're in Flushing/College Point area just because Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy are there and those are the three stores we typically go to in Skyview. SkyFOODS is humongous, but no matter how humongous it is - there always seems to be a sea of people shopping here especially on the weekend. The supermarket seems to be organized and neat in most aisles. There's definitely a lot of items here you wouldn't find in Asian supermarkets in Brooklyn in my opinion. I haven't really bought anything here since it seems to be quite expensive, but than again I was told grocery shopping in Queens can be expensive. I guess the only positive aspects of SkyFOODS is that it's inside a mall and many levels of parking is available. If you really do buy groceries here, at least you know they have everything and anything you would need in most Asian supermarkets. read more

The SkyFoods is fabulous! A very typical and authentic Chinese food grocery. Parking: 3-hour of free parking, very easy access. Parking lot is huge and spacious. I usually parked there and then walked to nearby stores to grab something. Variety: This Chinese store can satisfy all your needs, ranging from fresh meats to authentic Chinese snacks. As much as I love this supermarket, I will forevermore avoid it on weekends. SkyFOODS shares the building with Marshalls, Target, Bed,Bath&Beyond, BJs, and more. Combine this with 3 hours of free parking - trying to exit this place on a weekend is an absolute sh*tshow. My mom and I started to leave at 6, and we didn't get out of the building until 7:15. Absolutely ridiculous. And this happens EVERY WEEKEND, according to the employees I asked. That being said, this supermarket is awesome. It's huge, it's clean, it has every Asian snack and super fresh grocery imaginable, and sometimes they give out free samples! When I went, they were dishing out free dumplings - we ended up buying three packs because it was on sale. You'll hear a ton of Chinese dialects as you navigate your way through the busy aisles, so it's loud (since we're all yelling so we can be heard.) It normally helps to be fluent in at least two dialects of Chinese if you want to grab the butcher's (or the seafood guy's) attention. Also, be aware that some people tend to leave their carts to the side while they pick out their produce as to not block the way. So those aren't empty carts to the side of the aisle! If you're ever in Flushing, and you have a car, and you're here on a WEEKDAY (if I could bold that I would), definitely check this supermarket out. This Grocery store is great because for the most part they offer fresh, well priced veggies (not all but most.) BUT the casher service is HORRIBLE.... these ladies (if that's what you wanna call them) will give you nasty faces and looks, throw your items into bags carelessly sometimes crushing tomatoes and squash and anything else that's soft) Jam as much heavy product into one thin plastic bag as possible and refuse to double your bag. 90% of them have been unresponsive or rude with faces as if they just swallowed a toad. Ideal location for a supermarket. Be prepared to pay slightly higher prices for the basics, after all it does come with free parking if you keep it under 3 hrs. As for the selection of veggies its pretty good you find the supermarket caters to the large Asian community in flushing. The ladies that they have at the free tasting stations don't really inform you about products unless you speak mandarin or Cantonese. Tried asking a lady what was in the free samples of dumplings and she only stared at me. I wish the staff was more friendly. DO NOT PARK ON THE SAME FLOOR AS SKYFOODS. Instead stay on the first floor, right by the elevators make a right and there is an abundance of spots always available. Take the elevators right next to the parking area , go up one floor and Skyfoods is right there. As for the supermarket. Its awesome. East your lunch in the back of it at their food court for $4.50, choose three dishes and rice. Ask them what's in each dish (they may or may not understand you) real authentic Chinese cooking. The seafood dept is so huge and fresh. Salmon filet $4.49/lb, tiger shrimp $7.99, Red snapper, clams, so much more. They will cut up a whole fish for you if you wish. The Asian veggies, are beautiful, bok choy, many different varieties, all sorts of mushrooms, fresh bean sprouts. You can make great stir fry and the prices are great. A vast variety of sauces, frozen dumplings, almost anything Asian, and pastries and teas. I can go on and on. it's clean and fun to go thru aisles. Try it, you'll like it. read more

I dont mind being the only American in there because the fish, meat and produce is so fresh and so inexpensive that I would consider learning the language just to be able to ask more questions about items that fascinate me. This is an excellent supermarket two blocks west of the subway station, just north of the home improvement district (where there are flooring/cabinet/tile/furniture stores one next to another). So if you're heading to Flushing to remodel your house then this is a very convenient place to shop after you're done browsing the home improvement stores. Otherwise it's a bit less convenient than Jmart, which is located almost directly above the subway, but still only a few minutes' walk away. For those with cars, the large parking structure certainly helps. The supermarket has all your Asian cooking needs: rice, produce, packaged food, refrigerated/frozen food, and meat/seafood. The fruits and vegetables are pretty reasonably priced, with vegetables being slightly cheaper than Jmart on average while fruits can be quite a bit more expensive. The rice selection is greater than any other supermarket in Flushing apart from perhaps the 24-hour H-Mart, with sizes ranging from 1 kg to 40 lb (with 15 lb being the most common size). The packaged food section has good mainland/Taiwanese diversity (a lot of SoCal supermarkets are too Taiwan-centric, while there are some in New York which barely have any Taiwanese products at all), with a somewhat better selection of Japanese products than other Chinese supermarkets in the area (their Korean and Southeast Asian sections are decent but nothing special). The quality of the meat and seafood is quite good IMO. Along the back row (where the frozen seafood is) you can often find free samples of food. A few logistical details: They accept AMEX, which is uncommon for Chinese supermarkets and definitely a boon given the Blue Cash card which gives 3% cash back on supermarkets (or 6% for the Preferred card). For multi-buy offers (e.g. 3 for $5), you must buy the listed quantity (or a multiple of it) or you will be charged original price. Also, since the place is located in the middle of a giant supermall, T-Mobile has zero reception in the supermarket (I'm not sure how AT&T and Verizon do but probably rather poorly as well). So you can't call anyone, look up recipes/reviews, plan dinner, etc. while in the supermarket. This is basically the only negative about this place. 80/100 read more

In just the past couple of weeks, it was observed that fruit packaged in sacks were not all that fresh. Also, check dry goods carefully because stuff on the shelves were expired for 5 months. At first, I was just going to give this place 4 Stars. But I realized that the saturated Asian grocery markets in Flushing have gotten so competitive in both quality and price, Sky Foods is going to be as good as it gets. Friends who live in other areas of Queens complain to me that their markets are more expensive and carry sub par quality of goods. I usually do my shopping during the weekdays as weekends will be packed to the gills. Regardless, inventory turnover is quick which keeps stocks fresh, especially for seafood and fruits. There is also a hot food section where you can pick 4 items for a lunch box and a soap for $5. Always a cheap quick hunger fix. 3 hour free parking at the garage is ample time for even the craziest grocery shopaholics. Go shop, stock up, it won't disappoint. read more

This review is for skyfood.com. I heard about skyfood.com from my neighbor. She told me the prices are reasonable and best thing...dont need to waste my time going to the city to get Chinese groceries! The delivery was decently fast and food came neatly packaged in a box. The biggest complaint I would have to rant about is that this website is not really user friendly to ABCs or people who do not know how to read Chinese. The website has an English version but the translations were not consistent and it was hard to find products, even using the search engine. I would love to use the online ordering service again if it can be more user friendly in English and possibly including a weekly special in English with each box delivery. read more

This is another gigantic Asian supermarket in Flushing and since it is new, it naturally is shinier, bigger and looks nicer. You can find Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese and some Korean grocery items in there and the price is great. I got some jumbo shrimps here and salmon steak and they are good quality and fresh. I haven't tried the poultry or beef here yet so I don't know if they are good or not. Fruit and vegetable here are also very cheap especially if you compare them to Whole Foods or any other Manhattan chain. Love to come back. read more

Same items as the other store (which opens till midnight). The only thing different about this store is that they have a hot food section, bbq meat section, and also serve drinks. They have a small seating area where you can sit and eat food is just OK. They food demos at this store letting you try items before you buy them. When I first heard of SkyFoods last year, I thought it'd be great to have a food court in the mall. Then I found out it was going to be a supermarket and thought it'd be great to have a supermarket in the mall, like Key Food or Pathmark. Now I find out it's just another Chinese supermarket hiding under a shiny name, which has left me somewhat disappointed. The store is usually very crowded by the entrances, since everyone is huddling around the vegetables and the specials of the day. Deals are on par for any normal Chinese supermarket. It is a bit more organized and clean than most other Chinese supermarkets but I have a feeling that's just because it's new. Other than that, Sky Foods doesn't really bring anything new to the table compared to any other Chinese supermarket in the area. it has brought in more people Skyview but I wonder how long that'll last, since the free parking promotion ends on 9/30/11. read more

"Sky foods" in the Sky view Center: This Chinese supermarket is clean and has everything under one roof. Seafood section has plenty of live fishes in the tank for selection. Hot food section has lunch box for $4.49 ( soup + 3 selections). Cold deli area has many exotic Chinese food like: deep fried intestine, Chicken feet & Gizzard, pig's ear & stomach. The vegetable section also has plenty of selection. Wow; Banana 49 cent/lb, carrot $49 cent/lb. lettuce $69 each. I prefer to shop here, because of free parking & next to BJ's where I can get more discounted food. read more

The best part is that this shopping mall consists of many stores worth going to such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Nordstrom Rack amongst many many other stores; they're even opening a Forever 21 clothing store soon! SkyFOODS supermarket is as clean and organized as a Chinese supermarket can get. It also doesn't smell as bad and is a teeny weeny bit less crowded compared to other places. I can find almost everything I need. There's a few things I do find odd, first off there is no scale in the veggies section. This can be problematic if you are an amateur cook like myself and tend to follow recipes to a tee. However you can bring your plastic bag to be weighed at the cashier or even at the meat section if you must. Secondly, the workers here do not understand really English well nor do I think Cantonese, so when I was looking for cashews I was sent to many different aisles and never found them. Mandarin appears to be the language of choice. I do like that this supermarket tends to have food samples for you to try. There is a lot of traffic in this supermarket so you can be sure that you would get the most fresh of veggies and meats, and none of your canned goods or sauces will have collected dust on the surface of the bottle if you know what I mean. Huge ramen and noodles selection. The snacks aisle here is awesome as well, minus that they don't have tamarind candy. :( Overall, great supermarket for most of your Chinese food needs. The place is well organized and the fruits are daily checked for its freshness but it was kinda odd to see a supermarket such as this in a mall surrounded by a target, or a bestbuy. This is your typically Chinese supermarket that ISN'T located outdoors in the filth that is Flushing. Ironic town name I always thought to myself, always. Located inside the Sky Mall shopping center it avoids itself of the nasty smells of Flushing streets and pretty much all the elbowing through pedestrian traffic all for some oranges. $%^# That does not mean it isn't crowded. It is, just not as crowded. The make-up of the store is almost identical to those found on Main Street. But here they are neater and well stocked. Srircha FULLY STOCKED when the factory was ordered to shut = they prepared themselves well for the madness that might ensue with shortages on this delicious hot sauce paste. Price is higher for some items I guess due to convenience. And by convenience I mean not having to search for parking on the side street on any given day wasting 40 minutes with your car running on gas. The private parking lot that also serves Target, Best Buy, SkyFoods, etc offer 3 hrs of free parking for shopping customers. Although this is the second time I've mention this tidbit, once in this review and once in a previous one. I sure hope they can maintain that parking lot free at least for 2 hrs which I fear they might do in the future. Especially since the new hot pot restaurant just opened inside this same Sky View Mall. Yikes. If I'm driving I'd definitely shop here instead of any of those sloppy, dirty Chinese supermarkets on Main Street. A large Chinese supermarket in the Sky View Center Mall. Very comprehensive, but soooo incredibly crowded (or maybe just on the Sunday afternoon that I went?). I usually am okay maneuvering through crowds, but this was just plain frustrating. Luckily, I wasn't there to actually shop for groceries, but it was still a pain to get through. I grabbed some drinks from the refrigerated sections, then some prepared foods from the back (they have lots of cold appetizers and hot foods for cheap). However, there is no actual food court like other large Asian supermarkets I have seen back home in CA. Instead, there were like 2 small tables with only a handful of chairs, and so seating was frequently unavailable. I think this just opened though, so maybe once the buzz dies down, it'll be easier to shop in? We can only hope. read more

When this first opened I was impressed because it was extremely clean. There's 3 hr free parking at skyview. Nowadays the place has gotten dirtier and dirtier...does no one else notice the flock of birds that inhabit the ceiling? Literally saw one bird pecking on a package of Ramen that fell on the floor. Only go here to get basic groceries, sometimes the fruits/veggies/dumpling wrapper/tofu is not always fresh/to date (saw mold forming/tofu passed expiration date). I rarely leave a bad review unless I feel the urge to do so. And this is it. It's honestly the most packed supermarket I ever seen. It's impossible to just grab and go without a hour of wait time. Everything here is overpriced compared to new world mall or any other Chinese supermarket. Besides that, one of the mid 40 years old female cashier here have a really unfriendly and rude attitude. She doesn't provide services on a first come first serve basis, rather on her preference that got us really really pissed. I would NEVER EVER come here again. I had some unpleasant experience and wanted to talk to the manager. The cashier pointed me to the direction of the guy behind the lottery ticket machine at the entrance. I went and asked to who I can share some feedback with and the guy said manager is not here, and "COMPLAIN WHATEVER YOU WANT" without even looking at me....... The story was.. my dad (78 years old) was putting a glass jar of sesame paste from shopping cart to the cashier for check out. It slipped, dropped and broken on the floor. The cashier gave him a hard time and she took the effort to find another jar to charge him. I came to the cashier right on time to see my dad apologizing to the cashier repeatedly. My dad said it's all his fault. But isn't this way too mean??
