Skyland is too expensive to be so mediocre! Way too expensive, both rooms and in the restaurant. We used to go to the buffet for Thanksgiving & Easter - pricy, but the service was always great! We went this past Thanksgiving, the service was terrible, so we didn't book for Easter! We recently decided to stay in a "premium" room at the resort. We booked a king, pet-friendly room. Upon arriving, the room didn't have a view, it smelled, there was only the bed and small dining table and 2 chairs in the room. There was "water" leaking from the ceiling - you could tell it had been poorly repaired numerous times before. They moved us to another room, which was MUCH better. Had a nice(ish) view, 2 queen beds, a dining table and 2 chairs and 1 other lounge chair. (Same size room, not sure why the other lacked furniture?) The bathroom was recently remodeled. The rooms are way over priced, but this one was MUCH better than the original room. We ordered food from the restaurant and ate in room. Food was expensive, cold and barely edible. Tried to order coffee the next morning, they couldn't make drinks as thy had no espresso beans. Ordered a fruit smoothie - it was HOT! I'm not sure how this could happen, but my dinner wasn't even hot, but my fruit smoothie was. The lady that was on duty when we checked in was very nice and helpful, she was definitely the highlight of the trip. (Oh and the two bears we saw!) We LOVE SNP, but the concessions will have to be a hard pass from now on! read more

A week's visit to the Blue Ridge to enjoy some hiking and the autumn leaves with my daughter --- wonderful weather, wonderful company, and the usual great hotel and dining experiences at Skyland Resort. Originally built in the 1930's by the CCC, Skyland has been a part of my family's traveling traditions since the 1950's --- we're currently working on the fourth generation of family members who enjoy visits to the mountains, at all times of the year. During this visit we were surprised to learn that ARAMARK, who has managed Skyland for the NPS for almost 50 years, is being replaced by another management company at the end of this season. ARAMARK has done a wonderful job with the facility over all those years, and we're hopeful that the new company --- who apparently already manages NPS properties at Yosemite, among other places, will maintain our favorite Blue Ridge lodge at the same high standards we've enjoyed for so long. We'd hate to lose it at this point --- we still have four more grand kids to train on the trails! read more

I am writing this on every single platform I can find so people know what to expect. Every single thing about this place is awful. Please go to big meadows. I want to try to keep this as short as possible so we'll start with the worst things first. The cabin they checked us into was DIRTY, smelled extremely MUSTY, and had no AC. Back to the DIRTY: poop on the underside of the toilet, hair in the tub, trash in the trash can, the sink water did not stop running, and when I picked up the soap bottle to wash my hands, a pubic hair came with it!!!!! And they're supposed to make sure it's especially clean because of COVID???! The health department should have been called. I immediately went to the front desk and the kid there seemed embarrassed and immediately put us in new accommodations. He made sure it was clean before we went in, and stated he will "handle everything in his part." Flashforward to checkout, they tried to charge me $84 extra dollars for the "upgraded room," I explained the situation and that I was never told there would be an extra charge, just that I had a new room. The lady at the front stated that the man I spoke with will be in soon, they will handle it and send me a receipt through my email. I was skeptical because their phones are BROKEN. I tried to call every day for two weeks before my arrival to find out if the cabins have bathrooms, linens, towels, a fire pit to cook at, etc. I also sent two different people emails with these questions, all of which got zero response. I should not have left without resolution because one week later, surprise, a charge is in my credit card with no working phone number to call, and no receipt was sent to my email. The claim is currently being disputed through my credit card company. Besides the DISGUSTING cabins, there is no fire pit at skyland at all. They claimed that the "park rangers came and locked them up when it started getting dry outside." Which doesn't make any sense because big meadows, 15 mins away, had plenty of fire pits and a picnics area, 15 mins away the other way, had fire pits. So you can't cook any food for yourself unless you bring everything 15 mins away to cook, and haul it all back after dinner. Or you can go to their "tap room" and order food to bring back to your room. I say "tap room" because I saw no beer, and the food list they provided awful. - I could go on and on about the food accommodations but I'll leave it at that. Oh yeah, and since the rooms don't have coffee pots because of the cleanliness for covid (eye roll because of my experience), they give you vouchers for coffee at the cafe. The cafe doesn't open until 8 am (which is absurd because you want to try to get on the trails as early as possible), they have one person working and you have to wait in line for an hour to actually get coffee because so many people are already up and waiting for coffee. DO NOT GO HERE, go to big meadows, at least you know what to expect at an actual camp ground. read more

I went hiking once with a friend from out of state. The hike got overstretched and the sky was getting dark. We decided to have dinner at this lodge because it's the cloest to civilisation in the area. The restaurant was very basic but I don't have a high expectation so it was ok. We were so tired from the long hike we decided to stay over at the lodge so we ended up getting a bottle of wine. Got the room - kinda expensive since it was such a basic room - no TV, basic shower and a bed. After dinner we walked to the bar it was filled with the locals and we hung out at the bar with them chit chatting about everything. I had a great time. read more

Great lodge, good clean rooms. We stayed in a premium room near the lodge office and the views facing west were great. Prices were good and we enjoyed having a dining room and pub area close by. The only negative I have is that the prices in the dining room are very very high. The food was ok...not great, but not worth the prices they are charging. There is also a coffee nook where they sell cappuccinos and lattes--this was a nice touch. I would recommend stopping at the local Food Lion (before getting into the park) to purchase snacks and what not, though we did not have a fridge to store any perishable items. Park was beautiful and May is a great time of year to visit! Make sure to check out the waterfall trails....they were a bit tricky but amazing none the less. read more

This is really a gem of a place. Don't stay here with the expectation that you'll find Egyptian cotton sheets on your bed, or a luxurious Roman soaking tub, or a dining room filled with gourmet food. Rather, stay here if you intend to get away from the city, and really immerse yourself in nature. If that is the latter, you'll really enjoy your stay here. We stayed here one night in a king room with a view of the valley from right out our window. The accommodations are decidedly not modern, and a lot of the wood paneling screams 70's. Also no television, no electric thermostat, no wi-fi and no fancy water features. However, we really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean. And, the bed was quite comfy. The resort does have a dining room, which serves mainly American comfort food classics. That does get old, and we both felt like we had exhausted the menu after eating here only twice. The dining room overlooks the valley, and so you have a great view. Service is efficient. The only downside to staying here is the price. It is a pretty penny to stay here. However, it is convenient. The horse stable is just 1/4 mile down the road. And, the dining room is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We would definitely come back again! read more

How many stars do you give a hotel room with a great view and is in a beautiful park? What if the room is dirty, in bad condition and has a lumpy bed? What if you open a draw and find someones pajamas sitting on top of the clean towels? I think one star is about right. Stay in Luray or Front royal. Skyland - Resorts Near Me - Luray, Virginia

For our first trip to Shenandoah, my husband and I stayed at the Skyland Resort (November 2009). Our room had a beautiful view, a comfortable king sized bed, efficient heaters, and was in close proximity to the dining hall and trails. The price of our room on a weekend night was very reasonable. The food at the dining hall was excellent. I had the vegetarian pasta dish (kind of a ratatouille served over rigatoni) and the husband had fried chicken. Delicious. Breakfast the next morning was equally good, and included a southern-style breakfast buffet. Lunch was ordered the night before and picked up after breakfast. We were able to eat our sandwiches while exploring the trails. Previous posters who complained about the lack of TV made me laugh. The scenery outside is breathtaking. I've been lucky enough to have visited many national parks, and Shenandoah is one of the best. Consider yourself fortunate to be able to get away from technology, but if you truly need CNN, there's a huge flat screen TV in the main office. The front desk does post weather updates daily. read more

Skyland - Resorts Near Me - Luray, Virginia

I visited Skyland yesterday after my first journey on Skyline Drive. The setting is nice enough. Pollock Dining Room has a camp cafeteria feel. Lots of tables, all in a row. The view is beautiful, especially if you catch the sunset. If I were to do it over again, I'd time it just right (probably plan to arrive and put your name on the seating list by 5:00 to be seated by 5:30) so you can catch sunset at its peak. The food and drinks were underwhelming. My partner got the steak, which was overcooked and a bit tough. I got Addie's pasta with shrimp and that was pretty good. The Tuscarora wine wasn't my favorite -- it was quite tart, but I attribute my dislike for it only to preference and not necessarily wine quality. For dessert, we had the New York cheesecake and the signature blackberry ice cream pie. Both were good -- very very rich, though. The coffee that accompanied was ok. Service was wonderful. After telling our server that we were dissatisfied with the steak, she gave us a 20% discount on that dish and both desserts were on the house. She was completely understanding, apologetic, and quick to offer compensation. The overall experience, including the beautiful drive and overlooks, was pleasant but I don't plan to revisit the restaurant. read more

A+ on SO many levels. Note: I have not stayed in the resort or sat down to eat at the restaurant, but did stop here for a break along Skyline Drive and for grab-and-go food. Nevertheless, my experience was phenomenal. (1) Skyland is one of the few places that offers EV charging (free!)o along Skyline Drive. (2) The resort is perched in the mountains with views of the mountains as well as the plains. (3) The staff in the souvenir shop went above and beyond in terms of customer service. When I arrived at the resort, my husband stayed in our car with our dog while I went in to take care of business and look around the gift shop. In the shop, I noticed a postcard that I wanted, went to the counter to pay for it, and realized I forgot my wallet and my phone. I asked if they could hold it for me at the front counter and allow my husband to pay for it when he came in. The two cashiers insisted that the hassle was not necessary; they would pay for the card with the spare change at the register. A small act of kindness that went a long way! (4) Pet-friendly. (5) Trail heads are almost literally right outside your door. Planning to stay here when the fall colors are in full! read more

Stayed at Skyland one night, Friday 10/11/2019, and wished we had more time to explore. We traveled the length of Skyline Drive and it never disappoints. While the leaves hadn't turned yet it was still spectacular! The restaurant at Skyland was great and we had a memorable meal. Our server Christina was very good. A wonderful memorial day weekend with a surprise trip to the beautiful Shenandoah mountains with my son and my wife. It was a beautiful Memorial day 2017 we decided to go to skyline Drive for the day. The mountains are beautiful the serenity is unbelievable. We got to skyline around 4 o'clock in the afternoon and decided to stay for dinner and stay for the night at the hotel. Hotel staff great people great premium room great views. Older but comfortable beds the view made up for anything. The skyline lodge was beautiful as we decided to have dinner when they opened at 5:30 there was a short line and we were excited about having a great meal. We were seated rather quickly and went to our table. Little things started to go wrong the windows were really dirty and the floor underneath the table was borderline disgusting. The cleanliness of the restaurant or lack of should've told us something else wrong. Where is the management. We decided to start off with a crabcake for an appetizer not too horrible a few shells this was probably the best thing we have because it went downhill quickly We were so excited when we walked in this place has so much potential for great food it's so beautiful but they are definitely missing a chef a manager and food quality control We decided to get three items on the menu the shrimp and grits were recommended from the waitress and sounded pretty good on the menu STONY MAN SHRIMP & GRITS 692 cal $22 Saute Shrimp, Edwards Ham, Leeks, Roasted Peppers Wades Mill Grits, Reduced Cream When the shrimp and grits came out of the grits were almost under cooked very Bland would just say gross very bland no flavor.almost like oatmeal Described on the menu has something wonderful terrible waste of $22 but still don't know how they could serve this just like mush Well how could you go wrong with the New York strip steak NY STRIP 1087 cal $28 Seared 12oz NY Strip, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Saute Mushrooms and Onions Garlic Herb Butter, Veal Demi Glace . $28 everything seems really high on this menu except for the quality. Or other dinner entrée were the crabcakes which had large shells that sort of turned our stomach after the first bite the appetizer was better but shells and your crabcake doesn't make my wife very happy Also whatever they serve with the crabcake some type of corn very grossed out by it again almost to consistency of Plato no joke. Basically $120 wasted on a meal that was horrific This place has so much potential many families have been coming here for years and have spoke very highly of this restaurant. I stayed in a standard room in Skyland this October and I really enjoyed my stay. These are definitely more rustic accomodations, so if you're looking for a 5 star hotel, look elsewhere. However this place has character, charm and a view that can't be beat. Sure, you can hear the people in the room next to you. But after a day of hiking in this beautiful park, I slept like a baby. I wasn't thrilled with the food, but there are some small towns that are within reasonable driving distance. It's about 30-40 minutes to most restaurants in Luray. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. If I had a kitchen in my room where I could make my own food, this place would be heaven. Maybe next time I'll shell out for a cabin. read more

I'm giving this four stars because the views are breathtaking and the resort is extremely well maintained for such an old building. We had trouble sleeping because we didn't know how to control the heat in the room and we were uncomfortably warm. The cold water was shut off at our small sink so we drank hot water that we iced down. The walls were so thin that the baby next door kept me up late and got me up early. The beds were comfy and linens and towels were good quality. Nice furnishings. Gorgeous hardwood floors. Room was very clean! Dinner was a giant hassle because we arrived at 6:30 PM and didn't get a table until 7:40 PM. They were only using 1/3 of the dining room. There were at least 50 people milling around waiting to be called. The turkey dinner came out in a flash from the kitchen and delicious and hot. We loved it! Mike was our waiter and he made us feel important and appreciated. We dined there again for breakfast and asked Mike to ask the chef to put blueberries into our waffles. Oh my! Fabulous! Coffee was delicious too. Everything was great with Mike's service and quality food from the kitchen. Just slow getting everyone seated and served. Thanks for great memories!! read more

This was a great place to stay at for our final night in our North Carolina-Tennessee-Virginia journey. My friend was able to book our room at a special which included free breakfast "(in the dining room, so you got to order actual food) and a $20.00 gift certificate to use in the gift store (or any gift store in the park- went to good use on last minute gifts to bring home). Our rooms had that nice rustic-woodsy feel to it. It was very comfortable, and we were booked in the rooms right next to the check in office and lounge. Our room over looked a spectacular view of the valley, which was great too look at out our window. The bathroom was roomy and the beds were comfortable- so easy to fall asleep at the end of the long day. I wish I could say more about other amenities, but we were greeted with a very overcast and rainy morning, so we departed Shenandoah directly without making too many stops. read more

I've stayed at Skyland several times over the years. I don't have any horror stories, but I also don't have a lot of praise. Skyland has a few styles of accommodations, ranging from quite rustic cabins to reasonably modern rooms (ie., with a TV). All styles are basic and at least a little rundown. I stayed in a cabin once, but I doubt I will again. The bed was very old and quite uncomfortable and the bathroom was virtually non-existent. I'm not sure if it had an air conditioner, but the heater was a tiny electric thing on the wall that was insufficient (I was there in early May and it was still very cool at night). Most of my stays have been in their standard rooms that are in the long buildings by the hotel office. These rooms are better than the cabins, but still very basic. Expect a reasonably clean room, no telephone, no TV, low water pressure, and a somewhat uncomfortable bed. Although my review isn't exactly glowing, the reason I stay at Skykand is it's inside the park. Watching the sunset from your room's balcony or the restaurant's patio is very nice. Having only a short drive in the morning to watch the sunrise is also great. Being inside a National Park I don't expect or need a really fancy place. I would appreciate if Skyland wasn't as rundown as it is, but I also very much appreciate its location. I've never eaten in the restaurant, but I have in their bar. I don't know if it's still this way, but you used to not be able to order from their entire menu at the bar -- which I found strange and unfortunate. It's a basic little bar, but it's nice to grab a few beers and a hamburger after a day of hiking in the park. They also have live music every night (usually a local folk or bluegrass band). read more

We stayed in the cabins that are requiring a renovation! It was comfortable enough but we had endless big ants crawling all over the room! We wouldn't have been surprised to see bugs considering the location but the amount we had made us ready to get out after our one night! You can not beat the location and accessibility to the park from the cabins, but I recommend getting an updated room. read more

I really tried hard to love this place considering it was one of the only options to stay in Shenandoah outside of tent/RV camping. It was my birthday weekend (6/12/21) and we had paid for a premium room and requested a good view. We understand that it's not guaranteed, but the trees around the lodge have grown to block what is left of any views. I'm all for saving the trees, so I wasn't completely sad about it. But don't advertise such good views on the website when that isn't the case. It also ended up being completely fog-covered when we were there for the most part, but even when some fog cleared we could barely see anything. The room itself - very outdated, dirty and full of bugs. We found a giant millipede in the middle of the floor right away and put a cup over it because we were too afraid to touch it or kill it. We noticed there was a gap at the bottom of the patio door so we put a blanket there hoping it would stop more bugs from crawling in. The next morning after barely sleeping because I just felt itchy and uncomfortable thinking of bugs, another giant millipede appeared in the same spot between the beds. It's as if they were falling from the ceiling or crawling out of the mattresses. The last straw was when a giant wolf spider appeared on one of our suitcases that was sitting on the bed just minutes later. I absolutely hate spiders being inside - they are fine outside but I do not want to live with them. Aside from the huge bugs, it was just dirty. I took a wet wipe to wipe down a lot of the surfaces because it really didn't look like they did much of a cleaning job. The sheets on my bed came up just a little bit on the side and the exposed mattress cover was filled with hairs, dirt and who knows what else. There was a Skyland pillow on each bed (with tags on - assuming they were for sale) and the one on my bed had a giant stain on it to where half of the pillow was a light brown color. It looked like it had been dunked in coffee at some point. The last disappointment is that the lodge is one of the only places to eat in the entire area. If you are going to stay here - know that you will need to pack your own unless you plan on eating at the cafeteria for every meal and waiting 30+ minutes because everyone else has to eat there too. Or you can drive far outside of the park to the small surrounding towns. We drove the 30+ minutes to Luray hoping for a good spot and a local told us the "nicest place in town" is a rundown "mexican" restaurant. We walked in the top-rated Italian place and the pizza looked like Totinos from the freezer and we walked right back out. Ended up eating at Taco Bell. Long story short - we ended up leaving the area entirely and making new plans at the beach for the weekend. Skyland needs major renovations and additions in my opinion. I wouldn't consider it again unless major improvements were made. read more

Love that they serve local meats & cheeses. :) didn't love the flies in the window. :( Would have given the dining room 5 stars but for the numerous dead & live flies. Diners were swatting flies throughout the dining room. We also loved our Caesar salad with fresh local berries. Just couldn't with the fly situation. Please install some light traps! Our waiter was great and so was the rest of the staff but I have to think their tips are affected because management isn't addressing the fly issue. read more

We stayed in a "preferred" room in the Winship building for two days for a wedding. The room was dark and dreary, there was mold on the bathroom door and guest brochure, the air conditioner didn't cool the room because the air blew on the curtain, the shower would not keep the water temperature steady because the cold water valve kept slipping open and rain came under the front door during a shower. Otherwise, the staff was very helpful, and the catering department did a great job. The food was excellent and the service excellent. read more

The portion sizes were good and service was fine but they were very busy so we didn't get the food out very quickly but the waitress did stop by to apologize and give us a heads up. read more

While the Peak View cabin appears well-constructed and has a charming first appearance, our two-night stay revealed lots of insect intrusion and nightly mouse visits running room-to-room and rustling packages and waste baskets. This made it very difficult to sleep. Close inspection of surfaces revealed mouse droppings all over the interior, so a thorough cleaning is needed. While we enjoyed the Shenandoah Park we wouldn't return to Skyland. read more

This place has really gone downhill from what I remember. The rooms are the same rooms, with the same spaciousness and beautiful views that we remember from several years ago. That's why this rating is a 2 and not a 1; the rooms themselves are still nice. The problem is that Delaware North, who now manages Skyland, is A.) not doing a good job, and B.) hiring substandard people. My wife and I had just gotten married, and for a honeymoon night, I had booked a room for us at Skyland, with a king-size bed. Paid online, the whole thing. The transaction went through fine, and I printed out the Web page with the reservation, including confirmation number. We were all set. We get there, and we check in. The woman behind the desk gave us our keys and sent us on our way. We went to the room, opened the door...and it was a pair of double-beds. Not what I had reserved, and not good for a honeymoon night! Oops. We figured, OK, mistakes happen, people are human, let's just tell the front desk folks and they'll get us the right room. No problem, right? Nope. She copped us an attitude. She told us, "oh, I didn't tell you, we overbooked king beds, so we 'upgraded' you to the double-bed room." I pulled out the printout of the reservation, and she kept going on about how this is somehow an "upgrade". Then she tells us that "it's been a real problem for us, this overbooking of king rooms. Been happening all week." Anyone who's been in the hospitality industry knows how unacceptable an attitude that is; you do what you have to do to make things right for your guests. We asked who we could speak with to get this fixed. She got quite defensive, but we held firm, so eventually she said, "There's a supervisor, I can give you his office phone number, and you can talk to him tomorrow morning; he's not here now." That obviously doesn't work for us, and we made that clear, politely but firmly. Her response: "THIS ISN'T GOING TO GET RESOLVED TONIGHT!" My new wife was at that point about to throttle this jerk for her rudeness. I calmed her down some. The wife went to a table, sat down with her smartphone, and started looking for alternate accommodations, and I joined her. She found a fine place in Luray, for which I will also provide a review. Once that got arranged, I took the keys, walked back up to the front desk, placed the keys down on the desk in front of her, and quietly, but very firmly, told her: "You need to do a better job." I then turned and walked towrard the exit. My new wife wanted to give this woman a piece of her mind; I again calmed her down, and we left then and there for our new accommodations. If this is what Skyland has become, then it's not worth the aggravation, as there are other parks in Virginia to visit. There are plenty of other beautiful and romantic getaways here in Virginia; in fact we have many, many choices in this state! I believe it will be quite a long time before we visit Skyland, or any other Delaware North-managed properties, again. That must therefore also include Big Meadows. Too bad; things used to be a lot better. read more

Spent two gorgeous days at the Shenandoah National Park while staying at Skyland Resort.The resort, including all buildings and such is quite outdated. I think it was re-built in the 70's and stayed that way. Granted, everything was in working order, but it was old and certainly could use a face lift. The rooms are good size and the views from the balcony are outstanding. The dinning room is okay, though the Mountain Top Bar is a bit better... The service was good, though at time slow. If the charged less per night, I'd give them 4 stars, but at $150 a night, you know I kinda expected a bit more.... read more

Totally did not expect this after paying the price of a nice hotel. Far from what you would traditionally expect of a "resort", which is how it's identified on Yelp. Got a traditional room on Sat night / Sun morning. - Musty smell. - Questionable cleanliness of the carpet and bathroom floor. - Thin walls. Heard our neighbor entering their door. Heard people using the water upstairs. Heard loud people outside at night even though there are "quiet hours". - Moldiness in areas of the bathroom. - Door was stuck and required some body weight to open. - Less than perfect seal from the outside = bugs..so expect that. + Bedding seemed clean + Towels were nicely arranged and felt clean + Water tasted cleaner than the faucet water I'm used to ++ Service was great! Front desk and other personnel were very nice. + Beautiful views and nature + Convenience of being in the park on a multi-day trip However, this is a lodge in a national park. I should've had lower expectations. Would I come back? Maybe, for the experience. If you're willing to pay more, looking at the photos, the preferred and premium rooms look much nicer. They seem to sell out 1-2 weeks in advance during the times I was looking (summer)..so plan accordingly. read more

DO NOT BOOK A ROOM AT THIS RESORT, PERIOD! All that you have read in the other bad reviews is true and they haven't changed due to the Corona virus situation. Me and my girlfriend made the mistake of ignoring the bad reviews and booking a room for a week here during her vacation from work. We planned our vacation at Shenandaoh National Park and we very much regret staying at this resort. Our advice is to book a regular hotel in Luray, or somewhere close and just drive into the park. The rooms are dirty, even during the covid 19 era, they still don't clean, which makes things even worse and more frightening. If you complain they will listen, but not do anything to make things better. The prices for their rooms are way too high and especially for what you are getting. You will pay 972 dollars a night for rooms that are worse quality than the Budget Inn. The food at their "dinning room" as they call it is horrible and is also way over priced. Again, don't even think about booking a room at this resort, forget it and do yourself a favor. read more

Dried worms on the floor, dead lady bugs everywhere, random cocoon suspended from the ceiling, warped floor boards, uncomfortable bed... This review is for the lodge itself. The location is great, and it is a very calming place to stay. However, we stayed in Fells Cabin which is 100 years old and very quaint, but also very run down. We had a tiny room, and a little bathroom where the floor was pealing up and the bathtub seemed ready to fall apart. It seemed like the room was in pretty serious need of a rehab. That said, it is still an interesting place to go, i would just ask for a different room. It is a shame that the room is not well taken care of, bc the historic part of the room was really neat. Room had a nice cabin like feel to it. Very appropriate for the location. It wasn't too cramped with two beds, small table and dresser. Heater kept us warm enough through the night while everything outside froze, including our car. Room had a nice big window facing the wilderness which we were only able to see the morning we left. Even then it was a bit too foggy to see farther out. The bathroom had dispensers for hand soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Very limited cell phone reception at this resort and at Shenandoah but the television reception in the room was good. Wifi is available at the office and dining room area. No phones are available in the rooms but the resort info guide in the room stated that wake up knocks can be requested in lieu of the usual wake up call. Did not request that service but it nice of the resort to provide that service. Especially since it can be cold and icy in the morning and some of the rooms are far from the resort's office. Overall a nice place to stay at at Shenandoah National Park. Service at the front desk was great. Employees are helpful and courteous. read more

Just like that three star, it is a OKAY place to stay. I am a solo traveler and I was totally shooting for that peaceful and quiet experience. However, the wall was too thin between the rooms, and I can hear my neighbor's TV and even their loud dialogue sometimes... I really liked my room though. YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR IT. When you are ordering online, they give you a little box where you can write in a short request about the type of room you want. I wrote "second floor, great view," and that was exactly what I got. The view was great. Truly. You can hear the wind and the trees' whsper at nighrt. Great experience. About the dining room, it was okay. There was a really long line by the time I got there, and I waited for an hour and 30 minutes before I was seated. The server was really nice... but he sortta confused me and made me think that my salad came with the pasta I ordered... and It turned out to be a $5 extra... wasn't entirely happy with that. Next time I go I will try some other hotels there. Also, I ordered a traditional room. The king sized bed was big enough for three people... For WIFI, they only have it at the office-lounge place... read more

Giving this hotel a 4 star because the staff really reacted to our needs. We booked on hotels.com which apparently only gives you a room with no tv, ac, fans or fridge. It is bare minimum. I went to the desk with a good attitude and they offered me a room with all accommodations. I offered to pay more and they did not charge me. I was not there on the weekend so my experience might be different than others. They went above and beyond to make us happy. We had just come from Gatlinburg which repeatedly apologized because they had a hard time finding employees so the front desk staff was a relief. We figured out on the first day the coffee at 8am was not ok so we drove to Luray and got an 11 dollar coffee maker and we were happy. The breakfast option to buy I thought were great. They did not have sausage gravy biscuits but had great hiking options to take with you. They also had breakfast sandwiches and yogurts and many other options. We spent time in the mountains and never went to diner however, I did see that the options were not great. I would have given them 5 stars except for the food options. Our room was very clean and beds were super comfy and front desk staff was wonderful. The view was amazing. We are looking forward to our next stay! read more

We stayed one night here during Labor Day weekend. Our room was nice, it was better than I expected and even had a balcony off the back for viewing the valley. The restaurant was nice, nothing amazing but you don't have any other option! The waiters and waitresses were very friendly. We would love to come back and visit again! read more

Ever since DAH took over management the restraurant has gone in sh... the food is terrible. They are spending a lot of money on renovations taking away the rustic charm. They should put there in a better chef and quality food. read more

We were pleasantly surprised! After reading reviews on here and a few other hotel review sites, we were worried about what we were going to get. It sounds like they are under new management, which is great. We got one of the preferred rooms with a balcony view ($130/night, not bad!). The rooms were updated with wooden floors and everything was clean (I am veeery picky!). We ate dinner in the dining hall (not many other options around) and it was pricy ($20/plate) but large portions and pretty tasty. We also recommend the blackberry pie, yum! Will definitely be staying here again!! read more

My husband and I booked a rustic cabin and we couldn't have been more pleased. The cabin was clean and it didn't smell. They provided fresh towels, soap, lotion, shampoo and toilet paper. We had our own small porch as well. Aside from the fact that it got a bit cold at night since there was no heat, the entire experience was something I will never forget and we both look forward to doing it again soon. I do wish the bed was a queen and not a full, as it was a bit small for my husband and I. All in all, the cabin stay was wonderful and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. We did not want to do a preferred cabin, as they look just like hotel rooms and are not nearly as fun. We were not disappointed!!! read more

The Skyland lodging is highly recommended - better than expected and will definitely go again. We booked a "premium" room at Skyland after reading about the other two lodging options in the park. The setting is amazing - half the rooms overlook the valley with great view of a small meadow, the valley, and sunsets. From the outside they look like rustic buildings but the rooms were completely renovated. Nice flooring, brand new furniture, large flat panel tv with cable, a wall of windows looking out onto the balcony, brand new bathroom with all the amenities. It was as nice as any hotel of the same price in the area outside the park. When we arrived the room was warm but the A/C worked like a champ and the temperature control was great. I was skeptical of staying here but it was terrific and we are already planning another trip for a weekend getaway. I could get Verizon LTE internet at the whole Skyland resort, but no other visitor centers or areas. The Skyland wireless was fine, too. Discount tip: Join the Shenandoah National Park Association (google it) and get 30% off lodging rates. It pays for itself the first time you stay and also discounts at SNP stores (not the Delaware North gift shop). read more
