I want to specifically highlight Phillip, who consistently goes above and beyond in creating a welcoming and positive experience. He is professional, kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely charismatic. He makes customers feel comfortable, takes the time to answer questions, and represents what a neighborhood wine shop should be. Interactions with him are always pleasant and positive. Unfortunately, my experiences with Stefon have been consistently negative. This is not an isolated incident, he is routinely rude and dismissive. While Stefon is knowledgeable about wine, customer service is also a fundamental part of the job, and product knowledge alone does not excuse disrespectful behavior. Most recently, during an incoming snowstorm, I called to ask whether store hours would be affected, as many local businesses were adjusting their schedules. Instead of receiving a straightforward response, I was spoken to disrespectfully both over the phone and in person and was told that if I had "gone on Google," I would have known the store hours. That response was unnecessary and unprofessional given the circumstances. Pier Wines is located in a residential neighborhood with many local customers who frequent the store, and customer service truly matters. Employees like Phillip, who consistently provide a welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable experience, are the reason customers want to return, while repeated negative interactions with Stefon have had the opposite effect.

I was a regular customer here, this evening on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 at approximately 7:27pm…read more These two clerks here were rude to me and attempted to cheat me $15.00 of my lottery ticket for mega millions by lying that my $10.00 ticket is $25.00 without an explanation why. When I went to the store to buy 5 mega million games as usual with no mega Plier by using the same slip as last time; when the male clerk slides it through and takes my $10.00, he then suddenly stops me and demanded that I owe him $25.00. I was confused as to why he wanted me to hand him more money; I explained to the man that it is not $25.00 and questioned him where in the slip does it say $25.00? He couldn't answer my question and then makes up an excuse saying the ticket machine asked him to confirm if the customer should pay $25.00 instead? He pressed "yes." The second clerk (older male) steps in and then demanded me to hand over the $25.00 as well without an explanation why, these two men did not care that the first clerk made an error and thought he could swindle me $25 instead of $10 and tries to shift the blame on me to pay for their own mistake. When I stood my ground and said it is a $10.00 ticket, the first clerk became angry and skeptically questioned me, "what's gonna happen to you if I put this same slip through and it says $25.00?" in a threatening tone. I then responded, "it's not going to say $25.00 because you made a mistake on it, the machine showed $10.00." When the man reluctantly ran the slip through it the second time, both men couldn't believe the look in their eyes when it said "$10.00." I said "see? I told you it's $10.00," and I looked to the female customer to my right and said, "see? I was right all along. These guys right here tried to cheat me $15.00." As soon as I made that remark, the second male clerk also became angry and frantically ordering me to "RELAX!" After I caught them red-handed trying to cheat me money, when he should of just apologized for it and own up to their own mistake. This event clearly showed that these two men were both deceptive, rude, and unapologetic for their own actions. Not coming back here again.

Therese and Ben (the owners) are lovely and work hard to make the store a part of the neighborhood fabric. It's a relaxed vibe in the store and I like the selection a lot. No judgement if you have questions and good suggestions if you want to roam outside of your comfort zone. In particular, I appreciate how they curate a selection of wines with everyday prices but also still have plenty of range if you need to get a nice bottle for a special event. Love this place and I'm glad they're here!
