Their condescending intonations and inflexibility (if you have a return policy state it -- don't raise your voice like you are asking a question) are beyond--I thought I was in episode of Broad City about rude/snooty/racist clerks. The staff here is always friendly and helpful and makes time to ensure that you get just what you want. Despite what some reviewers have said, I've had nothing but good service here - and I've been in the neighborhood for more than a decade. Therese and Ben (the owners) are lovely and work hard to make the store a part of the neighborhood fabric. It's a relaxed vibe in the store and I like the selection a lot. No judgement if you have questions and good suggestions if you want to roam outside of your comfort zone. In particular, I appreciate how they curate a selection of wines with everyday prices but also still have plenty of range if you need to get a nice bottle for a special event. Therese at it again- too cool for school. So that's a lie and a double down on my main complaint in calling me essentially an idiot again. The facts are you tried to create an account for me and mid signing me up it kept adding ur details and you grew frustrated and said "I can't do it" and I have other customers (for context I was buying only 1 inexpensive wine). You then gave me ur laptop and said see if you can do it. I started creating my account which i tried to use until I felt uncomfortable. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Due to Covid they have a table set up in the front of the entrance to pay and you're not allowed to walk around the store to look for the perfect wine. Thankfully the staff working there care and help you find a bottle to take home. I told them what type of wine a like and that I'm looking to try something unique and they found me just the one. I really liked the taste of it, a Moroccan wine, similar to a Bordeaux with a nice bite and no weird aftertaste. Definitely recommend supporting this establishment during these times read more

Love these guys! Been such a great addition to the neighborhood. Always a good selection in whatever price range you seek. Came in the other night and there were some good tunes playing. I told the nice guy behind the counter it reminded me of technotronics and started singing the song I like. He put it on for me. It was a nice moment. Thanks! I cannot say enough good things about York Cellars. A few short steps from the York Street F stop, they are always a convenient spot I know I can get excellent wine at a great price. With a large variety of quality wines at every price range and ready to help staff it's impossible to go wrong! And best of all, they're pet friendly too! This past year I was gifted a monthly wine subscription to York Cellars from my family and month after month I continue to be amazed. I have received a large variety of wines, all within my preferred palate, that I would have likely never picked up on my own and each includes a note specifically explaining the wine and recommended food pairings! Although usually delivered, when I was able to stop in the store to pick up my monthly wines, I received an in depth description of each of the wines, the story of the vineyard, and why they thought it would be a good pick for me! The amount of thoughtfulness was so evident and special and made the gift of this wine subscription so much more meaningful for me. This has become the most thoughtful gift I have received as each month I look forward to receiving my wines which I know have been hand picked just for me. York Cellars is hands down the best wine store in this galaxy. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and they keep a rotating stock of crowd pleasers and unique curiosities to keep your palate piqued and coming back for more. York Cellars is the newest addition to DUMBO. The location used to be J's Wine and Spirits. The spirits selection isn't as wide as it used to be, but what they lack in quantity, they make up in quality. The wine selection is great, but the whiskeys are where it's at. They have all the local favorites, like Van Brunt and Kings County Distillery. Guy at the register was super friendly. Had a whole convo about local whiskeys with him. Yikes. I kind of hate to write this review because I love the owner (or at least who I think is the owner). She's really sweet and always helps others, her energy is unmatched. This is for the tall guy with glasses and overalls/curly hair. Wow is he terrible. You never know someones journey so I'd like to not pass judgement but this may be the 4th time. I get that working at a liquor store as your day job isn't 100% but that is your job, no? I always walk in with my guard down and in a routine as one of stops before going home. It's almost like I forget how terrible he is but immediately when I walk in my heart sinks when I see his face. I try to be super polite in stores with shelves behind registers. I notice in most liquor stores when it comes to their fridge or behind register they prefer to get it themselves (even as a service). I almost always know what I want but don't want to be rude and grab it behind the register. But this dude barks at me when I say oh, do you have this chilled? or Oh, I'll take that item (behind the register). He literally demands, get it yourself. LOL. Most of the time I can't find it in the fridge and need someones help (the other amazing people that work there always help out her) or just pick up the item behind the register. But today (as always), he told be to walk behind him, grab the item so he didn't have to. It's a weird power move that I DO NOT (lol) understand. At first, I thought I was over thinking it but he's done this about 4 times now. He refuses to pick up an item for anyone (but that's literally his JOB, haha). Esp if it's something in the fridge or behind the register. He's rude, condescending and does not want to work in a service profession. I know how sweet the owner is but take it from the 4+ negative reviews of this guy on here. I was surprised to see the only negative reviews were him. Take it as a sign. I'm sure the wine inside the bottles was good, but the people selling it didn't want my patronage. After kindly asking to use the bathroom so I could concentrate on my wine selection, I was sent into the torrential downpour to the nearby deli. After coming back drenched, I explained that the deli bathroom was occupied for the past 8 minutes. I asked specifically whether there was no bathroom on the premises, and I was told that there was no bathroom for my use. They barely even spoke to me when I came back. They were disgustingly unfriendly. I would recommend Blanc & Rouge for wine or Foragers for beer and cider. Both are nearby. read more

This is not your typical liquor shop. They appear to be experts in wine, which is great for novices like myself. It's worth noting the typical liquor store ordering / shopping is completely different here during COVID: one person at a time and they basically shop for you at the entrance. It's a bit slower (sometimes a line), but it's actually great because you can describe what you are looking for and they will pull several options (carefully describing each one for you). read more
