Rip-off city. Anyone who has ever been to a real head shop - certainly there are none of these in Northern NJ - knows that the glass vendors around these parts are a complete scam. But does the job if you are in a pinch. Would never buy anything but a good-old, standard, one-and-done piece. Unless if you are a masochist, I would suggest looking beyond the realms of this establishment for a decent water pipe. It's overpriced nonsense. Their glass would sell at a reputable independent glass vendor outside of this region for a fraction of what these jerks get away with in downtown Montclair. I got burned trying to "buy local" . On September 9th 2018 I bought a Pax 2 ($160.50) at Inner Eye Boutique in Montclair, NJ. Attempts to use the item proved fruitless, it never worked once - the element was not heating properly as per their staff. We were told to contact the manufacturer first if any problems. After three weeks of calls, a visit to the store, and emails between manufacturer and store owner, it was decided it would be returned to the vendor. At this point I only wanted a refund...sigh. Week of October 1st: I returned the Pax2 to the store owner for shipping to manufacturer. Although Inner Eye acknowledges it's defective the owner informed me she's a small business and can't afford to refund me. I contacted her a week later - no news. That was two weeks ago with no further communication from Inner Eye. As of today, 10/30/18: - I paid $160.50 dollars, I have no Pax 2 AND no money. Trying to support local, small business sure is tough...& expensive!!! I am sure you can find better customer service elsewhere as they have no proprietary products that would obligate your repeat service. update: November 13th we receive an email informing us it had been decided item is not defective and we could come pick it up. I was here about a month ago buying a gift for someone. Murph helped me pick something out. He was very friendly and knew what he was talking about. He was also very good about not trying to push anything on me that was very pricy - I told him I didn't have a set budget but gave him the price range I wanted to stay in. After reading reviews about how expensive the place was I was a little hesitant to tell him the range but he immediately started pulling out tons of pieces in that range and even below it. The piece I picked was a little more than I originally was going to pay, and he explained that was because it changed colors when you smoked it. He then told me that if I liked it he didn't have a problem selling it to me for the price of the others I was looking at. I was surprised that he was so willing to bargain and drop the price for me, and he explained that when people come in and behave respectfully and normally he has no issue being understanding and fair in return. I would ignore all those reviews about being ripped off or overcharged. From my experience, if you don't come in and act like a frat bro you will be treated fairly and leave happy. read more

Overpriced. Attitude. Angry when you tell them how ripped off they are. These people have nerve. Do they realize every person that walks through their door likely has a phone in their pocket, which likely has an Internet connection, which two minutes of research would show all their prices are inflated 300% plus in most cases. I'm sure renting in downtown Monclaire can't be cheap.... I'm a realist and understand the overhead of running a business online compared to Brick and mortar is way more.... But I also don't believe gouging your prices and making no repeat customers is definitely not the way to get business Bottom line; if I'm spending more money than what I'm paying online, it's basically to support local business and for the convenience of not waiting a week for shipping. The niceness only seems to be there so they can propose absurd prices and tell you that you're getting a discount. The dude went down in price three times and had the nerve to tell me that he was giving me a special deal because the other staff don't make many sales. When she wasn't sure about something, she got the manager on the phone to give us further assistance. Overpriced and angry. Everything in the store I could get at another store for much cheaper, and they don't bargain like most head shops. I bought something very over priced, which I only did because the guy working there was obviously tweeking on something (pupils dialated, easily angered, scratching and flinching, etc.) , and made me nervous. He was getting aggravated when I told him I saw the same merchandise for much cheaper at another store. The only thing that made me buy something here was the fear of my own safety and I wanted to avoid confrontation. There's plenty of other stores that don't have ridiculously high prices and tweeking vendors. read more

For the last 3 years, my fiance and I have been loyal, week-to-week customers...great selection of stuff, from shisha to hookah heads, to paraphernalia of all kinds. Usually, the clerks behind the counter are really nice, and genuine- Dee is a sweetheart in particular. Sad to say, the last three times I've been here have been horrific experiences. First terrible transaction: got overcharged for some shisha (tobacco) by a clerk who was new...I understand that, but being charged more for something I KNOW the price of felt scammish. Second time, went in and bought a different brand of shisha than usual, and after dropping nearly 20 bucks on it, went home, and both varieties burned like garbage...harsh after 2 minutes, tasted so nasty that we couldn't enjoy it, period. Waste of my time and $. Here's the capper: when I went to the store to voice my concerns, and possibly get an exchange- or a simple discount on my next purchase, the guy behind the counter was a complete ignoramus. He insulted me, told me it was a problem with me, and the way I was smoking, not his product. That's like telling someone who buys a shirt from a department store that the fabric made their clothes itch- that it's their fault, they must be too fat or dumb to wear it properly. I'd never expected this kind of treatment, really a condescending, degrading attitude from someone I thought was a decent human being. Went in once to try and resolve this- he snarkily insulted me and said no refunds, no exchanges- it was an issue with consumption, not his stuff. Second time, I was even more upset, because I went back in with the intent to give him my business (not sure why) and purchase an electronic hookah since I knew any shisha I bought might be past-expiration, or harsh- or God forbid, perhaps I just didn't know how to smoke it anymore after 4 years of doing so out of my own pipe. Once again, same guy, refused to listen to my valid voicing of dissatisfaction, and confronted me once more, saying if he gives me a discount, he has to give everyone who ever complains a discount. Great customer service. All I know is, they've forever lost the business of two customers, who were once very loyal- maybe to a fault...learn how to treat the people keeping you in business, because there's plenty of other (more reasonable in price and product) head shops and hookah specialty stores across the county.
