My bestie requested Blueprint Cafe Lounge as her post Cherry Blossom Festival 10k meal. I put the coordinates in my GPS but couldn't understand why it was going to take me nearly 30 minutes to get to. Follow me here: do you remember club Love in DC (early 2000s)? The location is similar - a place that wouldn't be on your radar unless you know. I say all that to say, upon pulling up I remembered attending a private birthday party and some community networking events at Blueprint Cafe! We selected our own seating upon entry. What became our waiter offered a high chair for the baby. I get easily overwhelmed by large menus so I just glanced at the board but focused primarily on the brunch menu. I ordered the Irish Cream French toast which came with chicken. I also ordered a pineapple matcha lemonade. The pineapple matcha lemonade came in a bottle, which met my needs (juggling the baby and myself). I loved how refreshing and sweet it was! I really wanted another but didn't want to see greedy. The French toast was perfect. Not too sweet, light and fluffy. It paired well with the savory strips of chicken which came with a secret sauce. I forgot how nice of an addition Blueprint Cafe Lounge was to the Ironbound section. I'm looking forward to returning this summer and using the outdoor seating! read more

Pro Tip: if you're coming during brunch hours, just make a reservation, because it's not going to hurt anything, and guarantees you'll get a table, especially if you're coming with more than a couple of people. Fortunately, we were just the two of us, and the server was able to smuggle us in to a lovely window seat with the sun pleasantly warming the chairs on a cold winter day. That said, if we had been a larger party, things might have been awkward. The kitchen is massive, which means that the food is going to be varied and good. The seating area is a fraction of the whole space. That's OK, because there is plenty of seating, as long as they know you're coming. Again, this is 100% on me, because I didn't make a reservation ahead of time. Smoothies are addicting, and way too easy to chug down. The portions on the food are pretty generous. If you're getting a beverage (coffee drink, smoothie, etc), plus a main dish, you're likely going to be full before you get to the bottom of the dish. Don't do what I did and pay extra for a side of fries. You're not going to finish them even though they're those super thin crispy shoestring fries with various herbs sprinkled on. They tasted lovely, but I was too full to keep eating. Food was full of flavour, and the waiter knew which dish would be a mess to eat, as he snuck us a few extra napkins when he saw that I had ordered the vegan chicken parm sandwich. I needed them, because the sandwich, though delicious, is a mess to eat! Would order again 10/10. They do charge a fee to pay with card, so if you have cash, pay cash so you can skip that fee. Service was attentive without being all up in your grill. Food took a while to get to us, but it was a busy brunch shift, and I can understand that things would take a while when they're cooking stuff fresh. It all tasted fresh, and not reheated, if you know what I mean. All in all, a very pleasant experience, whether you're a vegan or an omnivore. My date ate every bite of his order too. read more

Truly what a sick cafe. Seems like this cafe was opened up in a previous warehouse which makes for a super cool ambiance. I came in on a Saturday morning with my brother and sister-in-law and we all unanimously agreed that this place was a hit. We had called beforehand to see if there would be a wait and the waiter who picked up the phone assured us a table would be waiting for us upon arrival, which surely it was! I ordered a dirty matcha iced latte which was made to perfection. Earthy matcha tones cut perfectly with a bold espresso with a tad of sweetness coming from the brown sugar. Food wise we got the Parma chicken sandwich, cheesesteak, and vegan chicken and waffles. Everyone was more than satisfied with their dish. Made a reservation online based on ratings on yelp. I I caught a $20 uber from my hotel to the restaurant . Arrived 15 minutes early no greeting at all . Only one rude guy working the front . Very limited menu and super poor service . Left without eating due to it taking 30 mins just for a cup of coffee with old sugar packets with rocks inside . Such a waste of time and money . This is one of my favorite places to go to dine in Newark...until yesterday. We stopped in for lunch and was punched in the face with heat. Thick heat, which was thinned out by some air blowing. When asked what's up with the AC, we were informed that there is none. Is it broken? Down? Nope. Just no AC. It's July! How can employees work there all day in that stifling environment? We were forced to have to rush through our meal so we could get to the car to cool down. I hope management fixes this and makes an investment for the clients' comfort. Very trendy and cool decore. I would describe it as rustic-industrial-steampunky. There are concrete counters, bespoke wood tables, and a lounge corner with a bench and armchairs. The exposed kitchen adds a sense if comfort to the decore. The staff is very helpful and chill. They patiently explained the different menu options and dishes. I sampled the roasted chicken sandwich. The BBQ sauce was not the traditional southern sweet and tangy or smokey style, think more chicken curry spices. It was delectable and a hefty sandwich. The sweet potato fries were very well fried and crispy to perfection. The Sweet and Zesty salad did not disappoint either. The tart tomato sauce was pretty overpowering though, so scraping some of it off helped balance out the flavors. The impossible patty was juicy, and the sandwich overall was pretty filling. My friend got the Triple Burger and Mac 'N Cheese. She said the Mac 'n Cheese was plain and didn't have enough seasoning and that the macaroni was a bit overcooked and soggy. She said the Triple Burger was juicy but also could've used a bit of more seasoning. We also got some bakery items from the counter. The items looked better than they tasted, so we were a bit disappointed. - Vegan Maple Walnut Donut: Didn't taste fresh -- the donut bread tasted stale. It was very sweet though. - Vegan Bread Pudding: Flavorless. We got it with berry compote on the side, which helped a lot. Without it, it would've been very plain. There was also the option to have caramel or vanilla sauce on the side. The berry compote was not too sweet and pretty watery. I thought it was just the right amount of sweetness, but my friend thought it could've been sweeter, so maybe getting caramel or vanilla sauce on the side would've been better for her. - Pumpkin Muffin: Soft and not too sweet. The bread was on the lighter side. Tasted like it was missing something. They have many bakery goods, but nothing was outstanding. They weren't terrible, but they did leave us feeling there was more to desire. Every time I place an order online it's cancelled. I have attempted 3 times during different parts of the day and have even called I quoting about why it's cancelled. They need a larger staff or a staff more willing to do the work. It shouldn't be that every single time I order, it's canceled. You can't even put substitutions on there. read more

Stumbled upon this place while waiting around for an appt. Came on a Saturday. They offer takeout at the counter or dine in. Live DJ on Saturday when we arrived I ordered the Pepper Bacon Sausage Omelette which came with a slice of bread and ordered a separate side of potatoes. The omelette is huge. They do not skimp on the filling. A lot of sausage, peppers, onions and asked for light mozzarella. Well seasoned. Potato's are also seasoned and cooked well. Would've loved if there was a little more of a crisp to the potatoes. But still very good. A very extensive menu. Brunch and lunch options. The burgers looked really good. After officially going there twice on a Saturday morning, I can share my honest review of the Blueprint Cafe. I love being in this space. It's warm and welcoming in a least expecting place. I drove passed it so many times and never noticed it. I supposed it likes to be unassuming. It definitely fits the vibe. The music is so good that I find myself is a fantastic mood for the rest of the day once I leave. The coffee is great. Hands down! I've had a cappuccino and a nitro cold brew. BOTH BANGING!! First time, I had Chicken and Waffles. It was delicious but different, I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Maybe too much rosemary?? Maybe too elevated?? I don't know, whatever, I still ate the whole damn thing. Second time, I had the Tofu Scramble. Beautifully presented with a great portion. LOL perhaps too much. I couldn't make a dent! Had to season it a bit but I guess its better to be a tad under seasoned than over... Am I right?! Haven't tried any desserts as of yet. Summer's coming. Stopped in before heading to an afternoon movie. I've drove past several times and was intrigued by the place. Finally, we made it here. Upon arriving, we were a bit confused as to where to park. They do have a small lot but it was kind of confusing to understand where to go once pulling up due to the area being very industrial like. There was a DJ there which was pretty cool. It set a nice vibe to the place. I ordered the vegan French toast because I was craving French toast for quite sometime. It was very well made. We also got vegan Mac and cheese for the table to share and it was delicious! The texture was amazing and it was very flavorful. I am not vegan but always open to trying new things and the food was spot on. The only recommendation I have is to work on the decor of the establishment. As many times as I rode pass, I never noticed this spot. I got a chance to try it today. I called in my order of vegan chicken and waffles and the lady told me it would take 20 minutes. When I arrived I parked on the street because their driveway was pretty small. I walked in and it had a cool cafe vibe. The menu had both vegan and non-vegan items. The server asked to help and I told her I was picking up. She said it was still being made and it took about 10 more minutes. I paid while I waited and it came to almost $15. When my food was done she handed me my meal and I left. When I got in I dug in. I swear I wanted to give this spot 5 stars because the food in the first few bites was excellent. I don't know what they made the waffles with but it was tasty. The vegan chicken was very good and so was the peach compote. As I continued to eat I noticed it was getting a little too sweet.
