I would have to say the Skytown Cooperative Preschool has been a great experience for my son. He has done well and really loves the place. It is play-based and run by parents, who put various levels of effort in to maintain the school. A new director started in September and is a wonderful fit to this type of school environment. The staff and her let the children explore and discover through play, art, stories, and projects. The school has 2 programs - a Toddler "side" that takes 18 months to 2 year olds, and a Preschool "side" split into 2 classrooms - younger (2-3 years) and older (4-5 years). They spend the later part of the day playing together. The regular program runs from 9 AM - 1PM with an Extended Day Program running until 3 PM. This program covers additional projects like cooking and kindergarten transition activities for the preschoolers. My son loves this. For those who don't know what a cooperative school is, Skytown offers various levels of parent participation - from full participation to complete buyout. The child to adult ratio is low, because parents are consistently assisting teachers and staff everyday. The administration is run be a Board made up of parents and all families participate in membership meetings, "work" parties (to maintain the school), and various fund-raising events attract new families. We are democratic in our process and make decisions as a community. This is not without its flaws, but overall it works out for the kids. The family and I really enjoy being a part of the Skytown community. It certainly has helped our son grow in a positive way. I would recommend Skytown in a heartbeat.

Skytown's yard is beautiful, even in the rain!

Our son started in the Toddler Room at Skytown when he was 18 months old and we couldn't be happier with the school! Our son has really blossomed here, developing language at a rapid pace and learning how to interact with other children AND - just as important - other adults. After just 8 months, he now knows how to ask for help, take turns, and communicate his needs verbally. Of course there are conflicts that arise (hitting, grabbing, biting), but they are always dealt with in a very loving and caring way towards all parties involved. My favorite thing about Skytown is the parent education component. I have learned to be a better mother to my son and I have also learned how to help him navigate social interactions with other toddlers, such as sharing and turn taking. I am so much more comfortable interacting with other children now and also having other adults interact with my child. The teachers and the director talk to us a lot about child development and why they take the approach they do; this has really helped me to figure out my own philosophy when it comes to children. And the parent cooperative aspect is also wonderful. It's a lot of work, but it's very rewarding. We have met a wonderful group of parents who have so many amazing talents to offer to the school and our family job obligations are actually more fun than work! If you're interested in a co-op preschool, I highly recommend Skytown!

They go out of their way to make sure that she is included and feels safe and secure. They also emphasize learning through play with lots of tactile and sensory play that's appropriate for 2 to 4-year-olds. Ms Amrita and Ms Diana do a great job leading. Miss Epiphany is especially caring and loving toward our child and all of the children. She and Miss Marie and Miss Michelle go out of their way to come up with incredible enrichment activities and holiday festivities and artistic endeavors for the children to explore. In addition to all of that they also have a wonderful backyard garden in their play yard and the kids get to experience a structured physical education program every week and they also learn their letters and numbers and read lots of books and are building the foundations of good learning. We had been a little bit worried coming from a at-home daycare to curious explorers academy but we shouldn't have because it has just been fantastic the whole time, we highly recommend this school!

The first day I dropped my son off for his first day of preschool there were no tears, no push back, and he walked right into the building. Over the time we have been at CEA we've seen our son grow so much. He's always been very shy, reserved, and pretty cautious. Since the time he's been at CEA I've seen him grow so much! Our 3 kids have started at Nomura since they were 2 years old, in the youngest Chicky classroom (although now enrollment is open to 18month olds!). Ms. Rosi, Ms. Cassandra, Ms. Djamila, and Ms. Kim were instrumental in helping our toddlers learn important skills such as feeding themselves and potty training! We were updated daily both verbally and with photos, and the amazing communication made all the difference during these huge milestones. In the middle classrooms, we have over the years, had the true pleasure of having Ms. Keila, Ms. Diana, Ms. Linh, Ms. Nickie, and Mrs. Young as our teachers, who have helped our kids learn their letters and numbers and learn how to share and play with others. The balance of academic, play and social skills was perfect and our kids have thrived during these years! Even Ms. Chieko, who we have not had the pleasure of having as a classroom teacher yet, has also played a crucial role in our daily routine. She has jumped right in to help with the transition at drop off, showing the great teamwork and community of all the teachers. The pre-K year has been an extra special year in our experience, with real friendships forming between the kids and lasting bonds forming with the pre-K teachers, Ms. Keiko and Ms. Nao. They truly care about the success and well-being as kids go off to Kindergarten or TK and often keep in touch with graduates. They do a lot to make the last preschool years very special, with field trips and special activities, again nicely balanced with academics and social skills that have lasting effects in years to come. There are also many extracurricular activities available, including Gardening with Ms. Rosita-who has the most calm and caring nature, Music with Mrs. Green, who delights the kids with her whimsical classes filled with music, instruments and magic (literally magic tricks!). This is such a great community that even teachers like Mrs. Kathy, who previously retired has come back to substitute teach! Nomura preschool is such an amazing, welcoming, and nurturing place for little ones. We are so lucky to have found the school!
