We stopped in at this store after seeing signs on the highway. What a wonderful experience. The workers were helpful guiding you to what you needed and answering any questions. We had a cooler in the car so we bought breakfast sausage & a pack of link sausage. I've only cooked the breakfast sausage. It was delicious. traveling from savannah to Albany state for the first time dropping off my granddaughter, saw the sign and stopped, got a pound of mild link and a pound of pan mild, and was hooked, just today picking her up for their Thanksgiving break, stopped on our return trip back to Savannah, got the same exact order, but added some of the jalapeno pepper cheese link, the butcher who waited on me, said YOU GONNA LIKE THIS ONE, and do, put some in the air fryer as soon as got home. you all will be getting on-line orders from me Fred Jones read more

Awesome selection. Had walk-in order for 20 individual lbs of sausages. Vacuumed sealed and taken care of efficiently.

Bought bacon from there and had mold on it. Did some investigating and was told it ain't the first time other people have got sick from eating their bacon. So I guess they just wash the mold off the bacon and probably other meats as well and stick them in the case to sell. The sausage is absolutely amazing, so are the other snack foods. My favorite is the beef jerky'. The service is amazing, everyone is truly so sweet. It's a very small town feeling. It is very sweet. We got sausage to make sausage patties (2 lbs) and sausage links for bbq. Both were absolutely delicious. We also got Beef Jerky and then got some Chocolate covered pretzels. Stopped by on a complete whim while driving from Albany to Atlanta. To keep this short and sweet...it's a gas station with some extras, lol. They offer fresh sausage for sale as well as a few prepared items. I opted for a sausage dog, marinated bean salad, and a pickle. Everything was tasty but not figure friendly ;). They also had some other tasty looking salads, pasta, broccoli, and potato that all looked great. As well as some slices of pecan pie and banana pudding...yummy looking! Overall, not bad. I don't recommend this place unless you are a die-hard UGA fan. The butcher actually informed us (unnecessarily) that we "were in Bulldog country"; he said this in response to the school logo on our shirts. Then he literally barked at us! A grown man working at his profession; barking- far from professional. But then again, we were "in dawg country", so I guess our expectations should not have been so high. "not a problem; I'm trying to give my grandkids fifty bucks each." The store manager steps up, and says, "a July 4th weekend and we can't be giving out change." "Okay; (and obviously joking) hope you're not mad." "I don't know you well enough to be mad at you. This is a grocery store and not a bank." I could easily have told her to fuck off but I didn't, of course. The lady had an attitude, was rude, and confrontational. They have a super large variety of home made sausages. Links, bulk and deer as well. If you look on the shelves they also have some good home made sauces for you to try too. I typically always go to Stripling's out of tradition. Actually Stripling's used to be where Salt Lick is now. I have a lot of memories of coming here when I was little. We would get sausage dogs and Yoohoos. That was back when it was Stripling's. I went today to go to their little beer cave to get some beer. Prices aren't horrible. The girl at the check out could have been a little more friendly, but she wasn't rude or anything. read more

AN UNEXPECTED SURPRISE! As we were returning home from to North Georgia, we blew past this sausage store. I had my husband pop a U-turn and go back because I was reminded of this incredible chicken sausage that we purchased in Canton, Oh and I thought that just maybe... When we entered the store, we realized that this was more than just a little sausage store because they had ham, fresh steaks, thick peppered bacon and other cuts of meat. They had mounds of fresh sausage and my husband stopped to order a variety of links, (hot, mild and jalapeno). I walk away to explore some and return after a bit. As I get closer, I realize that the employee is handling the sausage with his bare hands, so I motion to my husband who seems unbothered. At this point, I become unhinged and find myself saying "Dude, dude where is your glove? You're touching the sausage with your bare hands!" He quickly apologies and puts on a glove. I give my husband the evil eye as the burly co-worker begins to explain that the sausage has to be cooked and that all the germs will be killed off. He tells me that the glove carries more bacteria than the meat. I am saying nothing at this point because I am laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of it all. I feel transported to Mexico when I had this same conversation in my head. It too was wasted energy. I suddenly realize where I am: in the country, in a butcher shop, with three men who have no problem with dirt. I just walk away and continue shopping. In the section off to the left of the day, you can purchase fresh pecans, syrup, jelly, honey and chocolates. They also had tables in that area for you to sit a spell and enjoy that sausage biscuit. To the right of the entrance the store resembles a convenience store with groceries and beverages. They also had hot breakfast sandwiches which were just being placed in the warmer while we were standing nearby. I had seen a couple of guys eating a sausage, cheese and egg biscuit and when I asked them about it and they said they were good so we decided to give them a try. Now, I am not a "biscuit eater" simply because they are just too heavy and I don't usually eat sandwiches for breakfast. Most of the time, I am not eating bread at all. However, we are on a very tight schedule today and I know that grabbing this sandwich will save time. We immediately begin to eat our sandwiches once we get in the car and I am really surprised by the quality of this simple sandwich. The biscuit was nice and light while being perfectly seasoned, not salty or greasy. That sausage! What!!! Very fresh, not salty, not greasy, just smooth! Nothing but quality here Baby! Wow, how did they do that! Although I originally went into the shop looking for chicken sausage, I was really impressed by this quality pork sausage. It was very unexpected in the best way possible! As we are pulling out of the parking lot, we notice the sign that has their web address and I snap a quick photo because they deliver!!! I definitely recommend that you stop by and give this butcher shop a try because their meat looked very fresh and clean while that sausage was like none I have ever tasted, (except my own). It is the perfect addition to your holiday table as a side or in your breakfast and dinner casseroles. This is a must stop on our way home from Tallahassee. The main reason? The jalapeno cheddar sausage. The store is basically a country store with a restaurant and gas station attached. You can get all the southern standards here like fresh pork rinds and chitlins, along with fresh vegetables when they are in season. The staff is nice, the place is clean and the variety of food stuffs quite amazing. read more

I love this place, although I haven't personally been since 2005. I have a Great Aunt that lives in Eatonton, GA and we drive through Cordele to get to her house. They make the absolute BEST sausage I have ever eaten. I've been eating it since I was a little girl. I'd beg my grandmother to go get "sausage from the gas station." Usually, this place has clean restrooms. Not today, both men's and women's had overflowing trash. No toilet tissue in the women's and no paper towels. Great place to stop for a snack, piece of pie, and beverage, though. We've stopped here a lot and never seen the restrooms in such bad shape. read more

We stopped in the Salt Lick last year. They feature their own sausage. We bought a 3 foot length of the mild. We also bought some of their own jerky. The sausage is probably the best we have ever eaten. I regretted having only bought three feet of it. Next time we go back I am bringing a cooler so we can stock up. The jerky was the real thing and it was very good. It was gone in no time at all. Didn't last the afternoon. read more
