Quite surprised at some of the reviews that I've read as our experience was nothing short of great! I spoke with the front office MANY times with random questions and issues and have not once ever had a bad experience even when nothing could be done. I can't even count how many time Brook has gone above and beyond for us. She is truly the best! Building is great and maintained well despite the tenants challenging them on a regular basis. If I could give Slate, along with their entire management and maintenance team, zero stars - I absolutely would. In the 16 months of residency, my fiancé and I had the experience from Hell. Starting with an un-cleaned unit upon move-in, followed by a leak (that they NEVER actually fixed); along with a flood from maintenance drilling into the sprinkler system then being without hot water from January, continuing through the end of May (when we finally left). We tried communicating with the manager, Mary but were constantly left with issues unresolved. We had a meeting with the regional manager, Christina, who was very helpful in the beginning. However, the more and more issues we had in the unit, the less we heard from her, until she finally stopped responding to us. We spoke to multiple other tenants upon their move-outs, they all had similar experience with management being unhelpful and essentially, unresponsive, unless you threaten to sue them with legal action. The cherry on top of how we were treated at Slate, was when we were finally moving out and Mary's boyfriends truck was parked illegally in the loading zone. When he finally moved his truck, our movers tried to assist him in getting out of the tight squeeze - Her boyfriend ended up verbally harassing the two movers while she just sat in the front seat. Then, 24 hours before we were scheduled to be fully moved out, Mary sent us their move-out checklist. 24 HOURS?! You had over 20 days notice and you decide to give us the list just 24 hours before we told you we'd be out? Slate is in constant violation of everybasic tenants rights. Writing a review because initially what deterred my husband and I from considering the Slate when we first moved to Seattle were the conflicting reviews. Our entire experience from leasing to living here has been great! The leasing office is kind and have accommodated several requests for us. Brooke specifically was extremely helpful and went out of her way to help us a few times. Any time we submit a request to maintenance it's fixed immediately and property is well-kept too. There was a comment about utilities being high, and I also did not experience that even in the middle of summer on the 5th floor. In fact, my electric bill was always suspiciously (gratefully) low. Location is good, close to downtown, Ballard, easy route to Fremont, UW etc. As a woman who commutes, I feel safe waiting and walking to and from the bus stops. Like anywhere else, you just have to be aware of your surroundings. There is a fire department nearby so you can expect to hear that every now and then, but it's nothing you wouldn't encounter anywhere else. Lately, the apartment has been doing more community events which is also a nice bonus! Hope this help anyone considering the Slate! read more

Avoid this place at all costs. You will be stolen from and you will receive zero empathy from the staff. We've had two bikes stolen since Greystar took over. The first from the secure bike storage, and the second on 10/2/2020 from our private storage unit that we pay for (see photos). When we discovered the theft, we told the office boy who said he already knew...HE DID NOT ALERT US! Our things were sitting exposed to everyone all day. I tried calling the office boy that same day to have a different storage unit assigned to us since this one was no longer functional and we needed to move/secure our things ASAP. I kept getting a busy signal so I went down to the office to find the Friday afternoon seat warmer watching something on his cell phone with the office phone set to Do Not Disturb. Pinnacle of professionalism. I had to argue with him for a half hour to get a new storage unit because he "didn't have the authority" to assign storage units and apparently this wasn't worth notifying anyone who could actually help. I literally had to explain to him that this was an urgent matter we needed help with because he didn't have any empathy for us. We've lived here for over a year and loved it until these shysters took over. We just signed a lease for another year and they've made us instantly regret it. If they redeem themselves I'll gladly update this review but until then I will shout about this as loud as I can. Such frequent thefts are unacceptable and we deserve to work with human beings in the office and not the canned customer service veneer the office boy attempted with me yesterday. read more

Terrible leasing agent. Condescending and rude. Website didn't have up to date information and she blamed me. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

My daughter and her boyfriend recently leased a loft from Slate Apt. on the outside the staff appears friendly and eager to help. However, once the move-in process starts their demeanor changes quickly, especially their "New" onsite manager, that was actually the properties assistant manager for three years prior to his impromptu promotion. He is always too busy to talk to anyone and the other staff excuse is "he's new" and has a lot to deal with, my response is that someone apparently misjudged his qualifications. My daughter was told that they would receive their complete move-in package four days prior, indicating utility service providers and other pertinent information about their apartment to their actual move-in date. Four days to try to get the electric company, cable, and internet company to transfer their services. They moved in five days ago and never received anything and had to figure out the service provider themselves. Their unit was NOT cleaned prior to move in either, my daughter actually found chopped onions and fingers nails from the prior tenants on the floors. When we inquired about a cleaning crew, we were told, we can't clean now that they've moved in. When asked why didn't they clean it prior to them taking possession, we were told we have to check with management. Great the unqualified manager again. Their washer and dryer were both filthy and full of dog hair, as a result, neither appliance work. Guess what and who they have to discuss this with? Yep, you guessed it. They have paid for all their deposits and first months rents, they still haven't received their lease agreement. read more

The apartments are fine... Except for the noise of everything outside (construction, trains, etc.), and the appliances which barely work... But why the 1 star??? MANAGEMENT is AWFUL. I have worked in property management and I dreaded every moment I had to talk to the office. I had packages shipped to work so I didn't have to deal with there constant attitude and lack of interest in everything to do with their job! Don't Rent Here. You can do better I promise. Lived there for 16 months. Moved due to the 40% increase of rent! The Good: Short walking distance to QFC, Starbucks, Red Mill, bus stop and park. Windows are insulated for sound. Secured parking with storage. Dog washing station and small gym. The staff is friendly and helpfull. Huge common area can host lots of folks. The Bad: The appliances are crap! Dishwasher requires preclea ing and the washer and dryer eats up clothing. There is no gatbadge disposal in any units. The Ugly: Due to the amount of pet owners, there is poop everywhere, hallways sidewalks stairs. If your on the ground level, you will be exposed to cigarette and pot smoke constantly. Since it's close to the railroad, there is a high amount of vagrants, train exhaust and noise. All of which is not the apartments fault just the location. read more

We have been at slate apartments for about 16 months. Two times we have had three day eviction notices hanging in our door for late rent. Both times they have been incorrect and it has been a hassle to get a response from management. Seems like a really poor way to treat tenants. read more

Below is a summary of my experience living at Slate Apartments with my husband and two pets for one year: Location: Great location! Just 3 bus stops to Ballard and in my opinion this is a better location than Ballard as far as commuting to work, because you don't have to worry about the bridge. Traffic is absolutely a nightmare in the city, so you will have some traffic down 15 getting to work (bus or by car) though there is a great bike path to downtown (Elliott bay trail) if you bike to work. Interbay is a great neighborhood. If you have a dog, there are plenty of places to walk around with them. As in any urban environment you should be careful at night (there can be some drifters in the area) but other than that the neighborhood is nestled between two of Seattle's safest (Magnolia/Queen Anne). The fields draw families and students and there is very much a police presence watching over the neighborhood. I would feel safe here with kids and pets here! The people & the dogs: The staff is really great. They went above and beyond, especially Rumel, he was fantastic and really helped us out a great deal when we had an apartment problem come up. There are a lot of transplants, which was great for us being new to Seattle. We made a lot of friends in our building and met some really fantastic dogs too! Noise & construction: The apartment can be a bit noisy. The building is part of the ever popular mid-rise wood framing. This was very bothersome to me. Though, this is very common here in Seattle so you should be aware of this problem in any new building. If you are not on the top floor or a foundation floor, you will be able to hear and feel everything above you. On my 5th floor unit I knew when someone opened the door to their apartment, and could even tell if people were walking in the hallway on the 6th floor! If upstairs noise bothers you, ask the leasing staff which foundation floors would be best for you or opt for the top floor. Outside Noise: This didn't bother me much, but it bothered my partner. I have a lot of friends in the building and have spent considerable time on just about every side and they all have their pros and cons. We faced the train tracks, which did not bother me after a couple weeks. I rather miss the sound of the trains (though they can bang against each other occasionally while they attach themselves) but I really liked the gentle chug chug sound they made. Some sides have street noise and others have the fields which have games going on a bit. If a particular outside noise bothers you more than another just ask the leasing office and they will help you. Aside from wood framing, I was very happy with my experience at Slate. This is a great place for a native or a transplant. read more

My friends live here and I have to admit that it's a really great building with a realistically central location. My friends that live here complain that Interbay can feel disconnected from everything (drive to Ballard or drive south toward Belltown or Downtown?). BUT I SAY NAY ON THAT because this is a truly convenient place to live with some awesome amenities. The deck is great and the grills look awesome. It's nice there's a very useful gym and several social areas to spend time with guests outside of units (although their one bedroom was very nice!). If you can afford it, I would definitely recommend the Slate Apartments & Lofts in Interbay. You'll need a car to commute (garage!) or be savvy with the bus (Rapid Ride right next to it). ALSO there is a Starbucks right next door, so easy. Parking isn't too bad for guests, although it can quickly get crazy (especially as everything becomes more dense). Typically, to visit my friends here I have to park across the street by the QFC, which isn't so bad. And new always smells nice. read more

This is a great apartment. But there's two major things to consider when deciding to move. 1. The noise is RIDICULOUS. Extremely loud trains, construction for many many hours of the day. And worst of all, the leaf blower. The extremely loud leaf blower. All morning. Even with ear plugs and the window closed you can hear it. So just keep that in mind if you're planning on sleeping in. 2. Parking sucks. read more

After living here for year, there are certainly some pros and cons, but primarily cons and thus, why I would not consider living here again. Pros: location is close to Ballard, Queen Anne and Magnolia and not far from downtown, so access to many Seattle spots is close. Overall, the apartment does have a nice view and lots of light. Cons: the staff and management here consistently drops the ball and really does a poor job. They really aren't very friendly and never seem to have any clue what is going on. Additionally, the hallways are never clean and the overall quality of appliances is poor. It also is difficult to access the area with the high amount of traffic and constant soccer/softball/frisbee games, so arriving and leaving the apartment can be a challenge. Overall, if the staff was more accommodating and friendly, while also ensuring the complex was cleaner and better maintained, this would be a viable option for housing. However, until that happens, I would not recommend living here, especially given the price of the units. read more

Original review is below. I have since moved out of the building after living there for 3+ years. After move out they claimed I owed money. It took two months to straighten the whole situation out and was very frustrating. They kept threatening to send me to collections while I just kept trying to get them to explain the charges and indicate what provisions of my lease those charges arose from. They were unprofessional and incompetent during this process. Very much soured my experience living there. All they cared about was collecting their money (which was only about 5% of a month's rent) and could care less about providing clarity. Maybe this feeds into the high turnover rate of residents (discussed below). ----- Have lived here for almost 2 years. Really like the place. Pros: Nice building, cool public areas with deck and grill, etc. Good location across the street from QFC, next to the bus to downtown, 1 mile to Ballard. The staff are friendly and helpful. Cons: Parking is a bit expensive, there have been some bikes stolen from the bike rooms, and it seems there is high turn over of residents. When I first moved in I knew a lot of people, or at least recognized many people. Now, not so much. I don't even know who most of my neighbors are anymore. Many people have come and gone and I don't know why. read more

I lived in Slate for a year and I have mixed feelings. It's a great location, staff are attentive and courteous, great gym and useful deck! The first few months were awesome and then a family moved in next to me where I could here their kids scream and run up and down the hallways. It then got worse when someone moved in above me. I could hear the persons every step. Unfortunately, I was woken up every day at 5am and couldn't go asleep until the person stopped moving around at night. Parking: There is none, and if you're willing to pay $130 per car, per spot.. and barely have your car fit... then sure, you may not mind. The building: The building is beautiful and everything looks amazing The noise: Good effing luck everyone. This is the loudest building i've ever lived in. You can hear every drawer, every cabinet, every door open and close. You can hear every step your upstair neighbors make, which means you have to also watch your steps with your downstairs neighbors. You can't drop anything or have multiple people walking, because it makes so much damn noise! I've talked to several neighbors who complain about the same thing. Pets: Very pet friendly, however... NO PLACE TO WALK YOUR ANIMALS. Sure you can walk them around the building but the Slate has placed sharp bushes and prickly plants around the entire foundation so your dog has nowhere to go to the bathroom. You think i'm kidding, but I really am not! You can't take them to the parks across the street or you'll get fined $150 bucks. The flats across the street have a bathroom area that you can use if no one is looking. Location: There are homeless but they don't come around much. You have a 24 hour QFC across the street and a college soccer field, so it's pretty loud. Not to mention, the trains... but it's all city noise. The convenience :The Elevator constantly sounds like it's going to break.. terrifying. Cleanliness: IT'S SO CLEAN! seriously, amazing. The nicest gym! Appliances : Cheap af. My dishwasher gets jammed and the washer doesn't even wash my clothes. The dryer takes 90+ minutes to dry your clothes and there is NO place to put your detergents or anything like that. There is no cabinets for towels, only drawers. The feel: Like a hospital. It smells like febreeze constantly and the hallways are long. There are elevators on complete opposite sides of the building so it's obnoxious to go back and fourth. To sum it up: The walking noise is so loud that it ruins the entire apartment as a whole. These are not cheap apartments... You want to have something good. You can't have relaxation days, or movie nights.. or even do your homework. Good luck getting your baby to sleep, your neighbor will be sure to walk back and fourth right around nap time! In my opinion, the apartment is beautiful, spacious and great amenities, BUT I will not be signing another lease here. read more

Expensive...for what you get. Rent increase after lease is huge. Staff is cold and rude a lot of the time like they can't be bothered to talk. Maintenance guys are great though. The common areas are nice but they will not spring for HD or surround sound for games which is lame. Gym is nice and clean. It's nice being next to the fields for dogs but parking is crazy if the stadium is having anything. The garage is an option but expensive. read more

I love living here. Location is as convenient as it gets especially if you work in downtown Seattle. Bus is 1 block away and comes every 10 minutes. QFC across street, red mill burgers, starbucks, pagliacci, teriyaki, Chinese, mexican, vietnamese, etc all within blocks or next door even. Golf course, water and cruise ships and soccer field makes for gorgeous views to the south. Beautiful units, too. Big bathrooms with large counters. Huge windows provide lots of natural light. This is the best place I've ever lived. While we are close to the train tracks, the building is insulated so well that you can't hear the train when the windows are open (aside from the occasional horn...maybe once or twice a day). The management team is amazingly kind. read more

My husband and I have lived there just over 2 years and couldn't have been happier with our experience. I never thought I'd be ok living in a 1 BR (730 sq ft) apartment but the layout was so efficient that I didn't mind. The apartments are very pretty and modern-looking as you can see on the website. The counters, appliances, flooring do not look cheap like a lot of similarly priced places we looked at. The building was very well maintained and the staff was very kind and helpful. Since the building is LEED certified, our electricity was low (~$60/month). We never had trouble with noisy neighbors and I didn't hear anyone else complain about noise. Our apartment was facing the back of Starbucks, Red Mill Burgers, and a little (really good) thai restaurant so we would get woken up by garbage trucks from time to time. We'd also have the smell of bacon wafting up to our apartment from Red Mill on the weekends. The location is great. There's a QFC directly across the street, which couldn't be more convenient, and a Paglicci's. There's also a cute pub, Muleady's, about two blocks up the road. The D-Line picks up on the corner of 15th and Dravus so it's great if you commute that way. Garage spots were $130 when we lived there which shocked me but now we pay $170 for our spot in South Lake Union. All in all, this was a great place to live. read more

I've been living at slate apartments for seven months now. I read the review about the train tracks and the noise, but it's only been an issue for me once or twice now. I love the amenities and how quiet the actual building is in regards to the tracks and other tenants. I recently had an issue in the building that was related to parking within the garage. I know that I had a hand in creating said issue, but the way I was treated by the management staff was horrendous. It wasn't Alex or Romel that treated me unkindly, but the blonde woman that seems to be the overall boss. I would call her out by name, but she's never even tried to introduce herself to me. They said they sent me several emails about my car, to which I responded that I don't really check my email. She then asked me, "Well, how do you know when you have packages?" Her tone insinuated that I was lying. I only use email when I have to for taxes and other important stuff, but for the most part I honestly don't check it. They told me that they had tried to contact me about the car multiple times, yet they didn't know who it belonged to. I wrote down my license plate and make and model for them when I first signed the lease and the parking/storage agreement, so they knew it was my car. They just decided that it wasn't worth looking into the paperwork to see who the car belonged to. They then had it impounded and towed. Like I said before, the way they handled it was ridiculous. She made me feel like a villain in my own building. She also pretty much called me a liar. I've been paying $140 for parking and storage since I moved in. I've been late once, but it was only a day. I rectified the problem immediately and with the requisite late fee. I am a model tenant, and they treated me like some kid off the street. We moved in here when there was only 11% occupancy and intended to stay and re-sign a lease. We used to love it here, but now I feel very uncomfortable knowing how they treat you when you have an issue. I feel very put down and she made me feel very insignificant when I had an issue that I was trying to discuss with them calmly. She made it a point to blame me for the whole issue. At the end, though, she did try to be helpful. Since my car was impounded, we notified the apartments that we would no longer be needing a parking spot. The parking spot was part of a parking/storage space, so, since we had cancelled our agreement, she asked if we would be needing a different storage. I told her no, curtly, and walked away. Why would I want to keep my things in storage, when they hauled my car away? Maybe they'll take all my stuff, too, I don't know. I am very dissatisfied with the way this was handled. If you like being treated like a villain when you have an issue with your building come live here! It's amazing. read more

Lived here for a year and had to move out to be closer to the east side, but man, this was a great spot. Never heard our neighbors or the trash shoot (was right next to it) and was not on the top floor. Management was always friendly and responsive to requests, security guards at night. Beware - the parking enforcement guy was really strict for surrounding areas if you don't want to pay their (pretty high) garage fees. read more
