I want to say this because I don't see or hear anyone else doing it. I have never met or seen a more dedicated group of people working so hard to save an organization. I am so impressed with each person I have met there. They give so much to keep what may be the best kept secret in Norwich going! I think you should check them out! I attended a movie night recently and they were showing the movie recently released about the life of Steven Hawking. The theater was surprisingly comfortable and the quality of the viewing and sound were superb. Okay, the seats were not like a movie theater. But you could even buy popcorn. And the most surprising thing of all is that not one of these people gets paid to do what they do. And when I went to a meeting with some friends tonight at the gallery I got a preview of a fabulous show the volunteers were mounting for the art faculty of the local community college. If you enjoy viewing fine art, you do not want to miss this show! Since I first moved into Norwich I was told that downtown was to be avoided. But I have been there and eaten wonderful foods and walked all over and been in some fabulous small shops and not a single person ever threatened to mug me. No one even came near. I think it is time to dispense with a rumor that causes more suffering than anything else in Norwich. Check out downtown for yourself and don't miss the NAC's doings!

We were looking for an activity that would be fun for a multigenerational group of 23 people with toddlers, seniors, and everyone in between. We had been in communication with Oliver for months in advance. About two weeks before the big day, we saw that the forecast called for showers throughout Memorial Day weekend, particularly the Sunday of our planned cruise. We monitored the weather and decided to make a decision closer to the day. Throughout the entire process of planning, Oliver was responsive, reliable, accommodating, and kind. On the morning of the trip, Oliver gave us multiple options and worked with us to make sure that we could cancel and get a full refund due to the inclement weather. He provided us with agency up to the last hour of decision making. On a day that could have been really stressful, Oliver alleviated some of that stress. That is exceptional customer service, and that is the reason we will be coming back to the Argia for another special occasion. Unfortunately, they sell them through TicketMaster and after all the fees, you end up paying $36 and change for the ticket. You can buy them at local shops around CT, but I live in Boston. One of the best things about the event is that it's held at Mohegan Sun. Why, you ask? Well, if you need a break from the convention or it's just too crowded you can get a bracelet and step out into the casino and there's plenty to see, eat, or even gamble! I saw soooo many people just sitting on the floor eating food they got at the little concession stand outside the entrance when there are literally 10 other food options if you step out from the convention and walk 5 minutes. I really liked that there were an abundance of comic book vendors. I've been to other conventions (Boston comes to mind) where they are few and far between. Lots of digging to be done and lots of $1 bins to go through. Photo ops and autographs aren't really my thing, but if they are the lineup of celebrity guests was a little...eh. I'm a little surprised to see how many people were waiting for...wait for it...Val Kilmer...in 2019. The other big name was Billy Dee Williams. Eh. Again, photo ops and autographs aren't my thing. The interior is inspired by Native American culture, New England nature, and celestial elements, which gives the entire resort such a unique and impressive atmosphere. The different areas throughout the casino are beautifully designed around natural elements, including the Casino of the Sky, Casino of the Earth, and Casino of the Wind. The combination of natural wood, stone, dramatic architectural details, and artwork is stunning. One of the most impressive pieces is the enormous hand-blown glass sculpture in the Casino of the Sky -- pictures honestly don't do it justice! There is also SO much to do without ever having to leave the property. There are tons of restaurants, stores for shopping, entertainment, and plenty of places to grab late-night snacks. Our room was extremely clean, comfortable, and relaxing. The entire hotel and casino were spotless and very well maintained, especially considering how large the property is. One of the highlights of our stay was dinner at Michael Jordan's Steak House. The steak was probably one of the BEST I've ever had -- absolutely incredible! And you MUST order the garlic bread. Trust me, you will not regret it! Between the gorgeous décor, amazing food, shopping, entertainment, cleanliness, and comfortable rooms, Mohegan Sun has officially become one of my favorite hotels. We had such an amazing experience and I'm already looking forward to coming back very soon. Definitely a 10/10 experience and a place I highly recommend!

Books genealogy and…read moreOtis The first Norwich library was built in 1849 with money donated by Deacon (Joseph) Otis; Like most of the libraries back then it was a subscription library and only became a free library in 1891. The old Greek Revival building was pretty cool but it was just to small to accommodate the growing community and so a new, larger but more ordinary building was built in the 1960s. Over the years the new building also proved to be inadequate so the library managed to receive a 4.5 million dollar grant in 2004 for renovations and improvements. This was the largest library grant in state's history and certain turned the library into a wonderful place to research and visit. Unfortunately over the last few years money has been scarce and the library has been losing funding, resulting in loss of hours and programs. Hopefully this will change in the near future. Lot of open space, cool places to sit and a extremely useful local history and genealogy room. A lovely area for kids and even a pleasant little courtyard outside. Not a historical or stunning building like lots of the many of the old libraries in the area but one that has a charming and friendly atmosphere and is a library that is a very pleasant place to work, learn or just look around.
