We had a very expensive custom blind installation done at our house in Alameda. The valances in our master bedroom split at the corners and needed repair. I spoke with Don and he came out to take a look and acknowledge that there was a problem. Then he completely disappeared. I have repeatedly tried to reach him without success. It's a shame, because the first time we used him many years ago he did a great job. Since then, he is outsourced the labor to the manufacturers,. He told me he was having trouble getting them to reach back. So he gave up instead of following through to create a satisfactory customer experience. read more

This was my first time buying blinds so I "yelped" around. Don came by and assessed my window situation, I have floor to ceiling windows, and he made the recommendation of cellular shades to help with climate control since I live in a bit of a "fishbowl". We've gotten some motorized blinds from Slats and Blinds many months ago including some skylight blinds. Working with Don and Slats and Blinds in general was a pleasure. Everyone was very prompt responsive and upfront. They were preemptive in giving advance notice for anything. Everything was as advertised. Installation worked out as advertised - on time, prompt and complete. The installer also provided some useful tips for blind maintenance. The blinds themselves are amazing - they've really changed the atmosphere (and temperature) of our home. The remote control works extremely reliably. The only aspect that's didn't work perfectly would be using the app to control the blinds. Certain blinds further from the hub don't work consistently but otherwise the app is a nice alternative. read more

I've never bought blinds before so I felt super unprepared and was wary about getting ripped off (since blinds are freaking expensive!). I video chatted with Don and felt immediately at ease. We bought and moved into a new home in early March and the blinds left by the flippers were all mismatched and didn't fit the windows they were in at all. Contacted Slats on Yelp to get shades installed. Don was quick to reply and coordinate a time to visit. The first visit was measurements and material selection. All went just fine. The shades arrived quicker than expected. The installer came out quickly to put up the five shades. The install work was mediocre. One shade didn't cover the window because it was installed crooked, but the installer was happy to adjust. Great. One of the shades has no resistance so it doesn't go up on its own. I have to push it up. My wife is shorter so she can't do it. At least two emails to Don and nothing. So, this is my third note. I'm super confident he's going to respond to this and fix the issue. Question is, why not respond to my original emails? Don: your turn. Update post owner response. 4/5 of the blinds have a degree of recoil such that when someone tugs, they go up. One has absolutely zero. So I don't believe it's a product feature gap. Rather, a defective product or poor install. Second, part of review is based on your lack of response to my previous emails. I chose Slats because they provided a few tiers of product, handled all the ordering, and did the install for a small fee. If all of those had gone well, it would be five stars for sure. My experience with Slats started with excellent service - Don was prompt with his communications, very thorough during the site visit, and demonstrated solid product knowledge. The estimate was fair. I paid the deposit. Then things went sideways. Don became less responsive and very difficult to reach. Not that the end of the world as we still made progress on the project. On the day of installation, the guy Don kept talking up as some master craftsman turns out to be a guy who is moonlighting from his day job at a school. So now I understand why installations can only happen after 3p. It was a bit disappointing that this much hyped installer would walk through your house with two drills loaded with a 12 inch bit on each side of his body, even through narrow doorways. He nailed one of my doorways. The damage was minor so no biggie, but still, it wasn't ideal. All in all, I'm reasonably happy with Slats. A decent product was delivered and installed, all at a fair price, just with a few bumps in the road. read more

We were so glad we contacted Don (Jan 23 2020)! We had an idea of what kind of shades we wanted for our bedroom as well as for our son but couldn't make up our mind. Well, this is where Don comes in. After our initial call, Don made some suggestions/ recommedations based on our window size (very large). Don did an amazing job! He has a lot of options that are right for every budget. He is also very knowledgable and gives very good recommendations. For example we have a small child and he told us having blinds with cords might not be a great idea. He also is also very knowledgable between the different brands and gave us pros and cons that allowed us to make the right decision for us. Additionally he was super patient and professional with us, selecting blinds can be a bit overwhelming when you are considering all the different options. The installation was very fast and high quality. Finally, we recently had some issues with one of our blinds, since it was covered by our warranty, we contacted Don.
