A bit torn about this because we were here for a 3 night stay and we slept just fine, Angel checked us in and he was amazing! The reviews on Hotels.com was fine but the reviews on Yelp are gawd awful. Here is the facts, this is not a new property but the beds are fine, there is ducttape holding on in the elevator and cigarette butts all over outside, there is a piece of 2x4 holding up the little shelf in the bathroom but weak water pressure, the pool is icecold and the paint is peeling in the hottub, the breakfast is awful, we asked for the room to be cleaned but "they forgot", again we slept fine and Angel was awesome.. Let's summarize the whole thing, at this price point this is a travesty, plenty of places to stay, not good enough. read more

Overall, an average stay--neither great nor terrible. We had a King bed room on the second floor. It appeared clean, and the room was spacious with no odd smells. The bed was comfortable, and the room included basic amenities: TV, microwave, mini-fridge, iron and ironing board, and a hair dryer. That said, the place feels a bit tired. The interiors seem dated--as if they haven't been refreshed since the hotel opened. With the high turnover most hotels see annually, this kind of wear-and-tear should be expected and budgeted for. Upgrades could easily justify slightly higher rates. The shower head was noticeably scaled with lime or calcium buildup--something housekeeping should be addressing regularly. Breakfast was hot and offered a decent variety. However, we stayed for two mornings, and the same staff member was working both days wearing the same visibly stained and dirty shirt. I recently stayed here for 3 nights while visiting family. I usually choose other properties and have never had issues, but decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately, my experience was one of the worst. Pros: Good breakfast Decent-sized rooms Very friendly staff Plenty of free parking Convenient location near several fast food options Cons: Roach spotted in the room on the final morning. Dirty carpet Refrigerators not cleaned between guests Housekeeping was minimal, just clean towels and a made bed, but the room itself was not properly cleaned. Need to replace key card reader. One of the biggest issues was being repeatedly locked out of my room throughout the stay starting on the very first night. On my final night Saturday, after being locked out three times that morning, it happened again. Angel tried to help, but even the master key wouldn't work. I had to wait for 10 minutes for maintenance to let me in. I was told by staff that this issue is due to an outdated keycard reader system and will likely continue until the owner replaces it. Given that this problem persisted and my room was never changed, I'm very disappointed with the overall experience. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

We stayed here on our migration south. We arrived in high wind conditions and the power went out. They were very accommodating by getting us into our rooms and assisting with flashlights. Clean spacious rooms, micro, fridge, iron, hair dryer and coffee in room. Full breakfast with hot and cold options. Comfy beds with multiple pillow choices. Nice pool and clean pool area. This is a pet friendly hotel so be aware there may be a noisy fur baby in the next room. We only noticed it when the owners must have been out of the room for breakfast. Comfy beds, large room and bathroom, breakfast decent, great coffee, safe, nice pool and spa, in between McDonalds and Taco Bell with a great steak house named Dakota down the street. AND this nice place is not asking for tips every time you turn around which I appreciate. Cons: If room window facing McDonald's the road noise is quite loud. Thank goodness we like running the air while we sleep so it cuts down the noise quite a bit. All and all I would totally stay here again. We visited Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial is a must, Custer State Park and Badlands. Enjoy! read more

This hotel was amazing to say the least ! We were a little concerned what the quality would be because we got such a good rate , BUT it way exceeded our expectations !! The staff went above and BEYOND our requests with room service , breakfast , etc. The beds were so comfortable and the rooms quiet . The hot tub was actually HOT and you don't find that everywhere . We were especially impressed with Cheryl and Sabrina , their kitchen staff , who made an extra pot of coffee 'strong' per our request for our bike group from Illinois !! Thank you ladies !!!! It made our stay extra extra special Anna at the front desk was so kind and made us feel welcome daily , not just upon checking in :) We travel a lot and know exceptional. I am pretty disappointed in this Sleep Inn. From my experience, both Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn are comparatively nice budget friendly Chice hotels (Quality Inn has previously been the problematic of the Choice properties). But this Sleep Inn was closer to what I expect from Quality Inn. The first room was not serviced properly. The beds were made sloppily to the point that I was convinced someone had stayed there. I found a candy wrapper on the table behind the TV. Clearly it wasn't cleaned. I wanted to call the front desk, but the phone was disgustingly filthy and it had no cord anyway! I went to the lobby and the desk attendant switched my room. Before moving my belongings I checked it out. When I got there, the door was open...Closed but not secure. When I fully opened it, I saw why: the door DOESN'T close properly. I inspected the beds and saw that the beds were similarly sloppily undone. At this point I figured that the housekeeper simply doesn't know HOW to make a bed properly because it was consistent with the sloppiness of the way the first bed was "done". I asked the front desk attendant to switch rooms again. Third time the charm, right? The third room reveals the same consistent sloppy bedmaking style so my belief in the housekeeper's skill was confirmed. Besides that, in the bathroom one of the washcloths had the Quality control inspection sticker on it. That signaled to me that the towels weren't laundered after simply taking them from the pack and before hanging them in the room. Much later I found a hair in the sink that was definitely the wrong color and length to be mine! Sleep Inn, you really ought to be ashamed! Way over priced for this ran down dump. Everything in this tourist trap town is the same way. We can't keep staff, we can't keep up, nobody to help. Hire some or shut the doors. The prices aren't going down. Someone is making money. This place is ran down and dirty. Nice view of the interstate. You hear absolutely everything. Footsteps from the room above, teens running up the halls, people taking nextdoor and the idiot at 6am rolling his suitcase down every stair since his education didnt include elevators. Breakfast is a joke. Tiny little pans with 5 sausages and a scoop of eggs. All out everything of course including the massive 2 juice selections. Rapid city sucks and so does this hotel. read more

Be wary of this hotel. Books this hotel on hotels.com for 1 night like we have done dozens of times at other hotels all over the country. Upon check in, we were notified of fees over and above what was stated through hotels.com. We had already paid for the room on line. At 10:30pm at night I wasn't going to go looking for another place to stay...and of course they know it. They will also require you to sign a check in form that has no information filled in related to your stay and fees. Not sure how this is a customary way of doing business. I found a price on Expedia for $62 but didn't book it at that time. I went to the front desk and she told me to get the $62 I needed to book through Expedia. Fine. Understandable. While I was AT the front desk, booking through Expedia, I had some questions that the nice front desk lady helped my through. I booked through Expedia, but booked for the wrong date. Booked 2 weeks ahead. My mistake. The nice front desk lady told me to cancel the incorrect booking with Expedia and Expedia would contact Sleep Inn in Rapid City, and the manager would refund my $62. All good. Well, after 3 attempts by Expedia to Sleep Inn, Expedia received no word or authorization for a refund, therefore, I lost my $62. Since the nice lady told me it wouldn't be a problem getting the refund, she even left a note for her manager to contact me with questions or concerns, I still made a reservation for the night and ended up paying $30 extra dollars to stay. So in the end....Sleep Inn got my $62 for a reservation I incorrectly made for TWO WEEKS AHEAD, plus my $85 for staying there. While the room was ok, this is poor management. I'm only one person and my goal to not stay at this motel ever again, (I travel through there frequently). And yes it was my initial mistake for booking the wrong date, I still was told by the front desk employee I would get my $62 back. There are several hotels in this area. This place is a dump. The front desk person was totally confused and could not understand English or any question I asked. It appears they completely renovated one room and took 50 photos of it to post because the only similarities between the room I got and the room in the photos is the bedspread. There was a dried blood stain on the wall. The carpet has not been replaced since what looks like the 70s, the doors have the paint and stain falling off of them. The hallways feel like a dungeon. Would never stay here again. On top of it all they charge a resort fee. This is the furthest thing from a resort I have ever been to. read more

We luckily booked a room a few nights beforehand because I was told during checkin the hotel was completely booked. The front desk employee was friendly and efficient. Parking lot had 1 literal spot left so he must've been telling the truth since there was nowhere to park surrounding the entire building other than 1 single spot. The hotel could use some TLC. There's water damage on the ceilings and quite a few dings and scrapes on the furniture. The pullout couch is a VERY thin mattress. One thing that somewhat concerned me is the lack of mask wearing during a global pandemic. Maybe I'm overly sensitive since I live in the highest rate state of Covid cases but the front desk employee wore no mask and showed no concern... Also, this hotel is LOUD. You can hear cars and motorcycles zooming by constantly, people walking around above you and there's some weird water sound I can't quite identify but it's been loud and consistent for over 2 hours when I'm trying to sleep and it's making me crazy! The AC unit gives no option to just run the fan all night either which would help down some of the noise. It's really just too bad! read more

Called to front desk for house keeping and said I would have to come down and get new sheets myself. Got down there and didn't have any sheets and housekeeping was closed or gone. Ask for another room but didn't have any king beds left so we had to settle for two queens. They never offered us any money or compensation for having to take a lesser room. Nothing short of delightful. From the beautifully laid out room to the spotless lobby, this visit was outstanding. My wife, my two dogs, and I are driving from WA to FL and this was our second stop. This property is very new -- so new my GPS couldn't find it. But that's great, because it's newness means it has yet to be beaten up by the hordes of families who pour through the Rushmore area every summer. Large rooms, very clean, nice pool. Only complaint is that it could use more than one elevator. Only a few miles from the exit to the Rushmore Mall and the eating choices that tend to spring up around shopping centers. Oh, come to think of it, I do have one more complaint: it's in sight of a huge waterpark connected to a LaQuinta and a Fairfield Inn--the waterpark is glassed in, and looks awesome, so any children traveling with you will see it and gripe that you're not staying over there. The girl that was working at the front desk is extremely rude and inconsiderate. My vehicle along with 2 other vehicles were broken into. When I went up to the front desk to report this she did not acknowledge that I was there. I finally got her attention she barely glanced up and requested a manager. Was told no manager was on site. I then asked if there were any security cameras as the police were on their way. I was told no and that I signed a piece of paper and that it was my problem. She then told me to leave the lobby and she picked up the phone. A manager did show up and was nice but this is an issue with the hotel and the police and locals all stated that their have been multiple break ins in the parking lot. I think you are being totally irresponsible since this is a known problem and that as a corporation you have not addressed the problem. This was the first day of our vacation and I am out 1k due to the damage to my vehicle. read more

Can't recommend this place highly enough. Cheapest hotel stay on our whole US tour, even cheaper than KOA camp site. Because we booked in advance and the room was only a shade over $50 a night, I had modest expectations so was very, VERY happy with the standard of accomodation. Check in was easy and staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Modern room with a large bathroom with modern fittings. Comfortable bed (pillows were only OK but we had our own), plenty of lighting, powerpoints, good TV, excellent wifi, microwave, fridge, relatively soundproofed. There was also a pool and gym though we did not use them. Breakfast was good with a variety of hot and bakery items as well as waffle makers. The staff at breakfast were very friendly and kept it clean, tables free and re-stocked regulalrly. One of the best I've had on this trip and included in the price. This hotel is not in the city but sits alongside a cluster of hotels such as the Ramada, on the main route to Mt Rushmore. Though it's really in the middle of nowehere, there's a few meal options such as Mc Donald's, Arby's and a Pizza joint. 'Proper' restaurants are less than 2 miles away as well as a huge Walmart. Would stay again and would recommend. read more

Only complaints would be they need more than one elevator (there was a line of people waiting in the morning), fix their wifi service since it kept kicking me out (I was in the 3rd floor as well since I recalled another yelper having an issue too). For a pet friendly hotel, this place was beautifully furnished and kept up with. Our expectations were pretty low to be honest, as most places we've stayed during this trip seemed to prioritize the pet free rooms, and put minimal effort into cleaning their pet suites. We were pleasantly surprised to find not only a room with a decent view but one that was clean, representing a 4 or 5 star hotel, not the 2 it was rated online. $600 for a suite with a King and a bunk bed. When we checked in there was toilet paper on and in the toilet, and used shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom. For additional pleasantness, there was no do not disturb sign. We tried to sleep in (11am checkout) because we have a long drive. Housekeeping banged on the door every half hour from 8am-10am when we finally left. Twice they tried to open the door, but our latch was closed thankfully. I yelled through the door that we didn't want to be disturbed before checkout, but to no avail. Mentioned it to the front desk and they said "oh. We'll have a nice day". Update: I received a voicemail about a week after I posted this and was told I was refunded for the room. This place is great if you like the smell of urine and being lied to by the staff. This is pretty long but below is my letter to cooperate describing my Sleep Inn adventures (13 days and I have not received a reply). Sir/Ma'am, This week I stayed at the Sleep Inn in Rapid city, SD and did not have a good experience. When I checked in on the 19th I noticed the smell of urine when my air conditioner would cut off. I mistakenly thought the smell was coming from my air conditioner and just tried my best to keep it running and went to work, I returned later in the night and noticed the same problem. The next day when I got back from work I tried again to figure out the problem. This time I noticed the smell towards my main door, when turning on my the first light (I had left it off until this point) I noticed two urine stains in front of my door. I called the front desk and talked to XXXXXX who told be no other rooms were available and they did not have any way to clean the carpet. She offered to come up to my room and spray it with febreze and she left the bottle behind for me. My coworker called the Sleep Inn front desk from her cell phone and asked for a room, she was told a room with two queen beds was available. I called back to the desk and asked XXXXXXX if she was sure nothing was available and she ensured me there wasn't, I felt this was very dishonest and just wanted to leave. I asked XXXXXX what my charge would be if I checked out immediately to find a clean hotel and she told me the hotel did not pro-rate and I would have to pay full price if I left (this was around 8pm at this point). I told her to have a manager call me. I received a call from XXXXXX (Manager) and I recapped my story. I was upfront with her about my coworker pretending to be a customer and that I knew I had been lied to about the availability of a cleaner room. She asked to call me back and when she did she explained the available room was a king suite that cost $299. She offered the room to me for a discount and said I would have to pay approximately $100 extra to move to the room. She offered to charge me the government rate for the second night in the urine stained room. Although, I just wanted a clean room that I was comfortable eating and breathing in, I found it odd that I was expected to pay full price for the night I was walking in the urine and received the discount for the night that I had discovered it. After I got off the phone my coworker again called the front desk and pretended to be a customer, XXXXXX told her a room with two queen beds was available for $179. Once again I felt I had been lied to just for the sake of having empty rooms available for the possibility of more customers. When checking out the next morning I noticed I did not have the discount the second night and had to leave a note for XXXXXX (Manager). She fixed the mistake within a few hours. We spoke and she told me it was not urine but could have been milk or something that "fermented". I have pets and I am a crime scene investigator, unfortunately I have a nose for urine and I am positive this was urine. You might be able to convince me it was vomit, but that wouldn't make me any happier. My original plan was to leave scorched-earth review but if XXXXXX and XXXXXX (Manager)are just following policy I did not feel that would be fair to them. Is it normal to force someone to pay for an unsanitary room even if they leave? Are the staff trained to be dishonest in these situations? If this is the case I do plan on filing a complaint with the South Dakota Department of Health. I feel If an elderly person or child was forced to stay in situation like this with unknown bodily fluids it could be very serious. Again, I did not want a bigger room, hotel points or anything. I would not have stayed in that room for free, I only stayed because my only choice was to get a different room with a different hotel and pay for both or upgrade to the king suite that was offered and I can not afford such luxuries. At this point I would just like a refund and pretend I never went there at all​​. I have attached my guest folio and some pictures documenting my experience. I'm currently writing this from our hotel room bed. The room smells musty. The bathtub has a bit of mold growing. Our sink in the bathroom will not drain. The smoke alarms went off unprovoked while the shower was in use. A random person somehow walked into our *locked* room without the correct key card. The hotel is not doing its part to socially distance guests. They have reopened the pool for everyone to use at once. Not happy with the experience so far. read more

Hotel is clean and has new furnishings; however overpriced for economy hotel. Also we had a number of issues. Hotel was overrun with a traveling baseball team. There were screaming kids EVERYWHERE including the stair well adjacent to our room and the parking lot outside our window. Additionally, the hotel provides a BBQ for patrons to use which was conveniently located outside our window; the smoke was sucked into our room by our A/C unit and our room smelled. The front desk was overwhelmed and could do nothing to control the crowd. It was insane. To top it off, upon check-out the following day, the manager on duty was rude & unhelpful.
