    Room 820 - fridge/coffee cabinet
    Teresa M.

Room #820 King I can't speak to all rooms, still, seems I should start with this room having a fridge, since there are many reviews about the lack of one. There is also a pull out shelf with a pod coffee maker & 4 pods, 2 regular & 1 decaf, 4 cups. There is no microwave in this room. On entry, the scent of covered-up stateless is the first thing we noticed. It's safe to say that long ago this was a smoked in room. Since then, it's undergone soft renovation(s) that have mixed in new aromas. I'm generally very sensitive to smoke & get severe migraines from smoking rooms. I didn't get one here. I could also detect bleach & the walling. They went with a repurposed / upcycled vibe, I'd say reaching for kind of electric add ons to a rustic base. One wall has the needles & another is wood planks with a bison. Gold glitter adorns the furnishings, along with exposed pipes, and a silver chandelier. The cement ceiling is in need of a fresh coat of paint. The printed wallpaper could use a cleaning. There is a tub in the bathroom tho we only showered. The hot water was slow to get hot, we had to wait til about 9am for it, and still showered in straight hot. Water pressure is sufficient. The bed mattress was comfortable. Not to sound too princess & the pea here, the wrinkles base sheet had to be straightened & pulled tight, as it wasn't comfy. The room temp was fine & the windows do open. There was a ton of road noise, even on the 8th floor with the windows closed. Luckily, the fan is noisy enough to drown it out & i slept well. Breakfast was at the restaurant - a menu was posted with prices. We didn't eat there but prices were ok. Live music on arrival. Off-season stay at $115/n

This is one of the hotel available here in Main Street Rapid City South Dakota. It was average . The room was nice . No complimentary water bottle inside the room . No fridge and no microwave. The bath tub was slow in draining water while showering. The carpet was sticky needs a carpet washing. Advantage was so close to the Main Street , restaurants and shops. Their breakfast was ok .

Right away walking off yhe elevator into the hallway, the carpet is old as the hills then get into the room & there was a moldy stench. Got closer to the bed and the smell got worse. I believe it was from the carpet or the disgusting chair. The murial is a nice touch in the rooms but the rest of the room could use attention.

Leftover used Kleenex in main sitting room.

Overall, a fine place to stay when visiting the area. I appreciate that it is an Eco Hotel. The rooms are modern and the staff is friendly enough. One woman at the front office was very helpful and friendly! We had the same server for dinner and breakfast, he remembered us and was patient and helpful dealing with our large group. The Housekeeping team came through bright and early blasting music and banging doors; unfortunate for anyone trying to sleep in a bit. The few housekeeping employees I came across didn't smile and seemed annoyed by our presence. They have a hard job and maybe they were having a hard day but there is no need to blast music so early in the morning and basically yell to speak to each other in the halls. Additionally, there were major stains on the bed linen.

Walls so dusty they were actually furry with dust. Note handprint from a previous guest.

First let me say the folks that work here are lovely. Everyone was kind, friendly and very helpful. The location is great, walking distance to plenty of food and drink options. 5 stars for location and kindness of staff! 1 star for comfort and cleanliness. Although the room itself was clean-ish, the pillows were old, stained, musty and lumpy and did not have the type of pillow case to keep the pillow properly enclosed so you felt like you were sharing a pillow with several years with of sleeping strangers. Both my husband and I have allergies and the HVAC system is desperately in need of a filter change. Every time it would kick on the room would become dusty, which made sleeping really difficult. We were plugged up and sneezing all night. Also, the walls were absolutely caked with dust. Difficult to photograph adequately but if you look at my photo, you can actually see a hand print left by a previous guest. The walls were literally furry with built up dust. A Swiffer duster and some new filters would go a long way for this hotel! We were both miserably snotty from the dust- something to beware of if you are sensitive like us. Great folks here but the rooms are a bit tired and could definitely use a little more attention to dust. We are both super stuffy and exhausted, so probably wouldn't stay here again. If allergies/cleanliness aren't top priorities tho, this place is a great economy hotel!

Not to my knowledge. The two I know in town are the La Quinta, and The Hotel Alex Johnson.

This is a nice enough historic hotel right in the middle of Rapid City…read more I stayed for 3 nights with my family. We had a one bedroom suite. The suite was very small, barely bigger than the king bed in the bedroom and the sofabed in the living room. The bathroom was pretty tiny, not big enough for 4 towels without hanging them on random doorknobs. There was no door between the two rooms. We arrived around 5PM, and our room was not ready yet. We were given two $15 vouchers for Starbucks to be used the next day only for the inconvenience. That was nice. When I made the reservation, I noted that there would be 4 of us in the room. When we got to the room, there were only 2 towels in the room, and there were no pillows for the sofabed. Also, the sofabed was brand new, and so the moving straps had not been removed, and the sofabed could not be opened. I had to call down to the front desk to bring scissors to open up the sofabed and to bring up more towels and pillows. The bed was comfortable, although the pillows were not great. The bathroom, as mentioned, was small with very little counter or shelf space. The shower/bath combo was cramped with a cloth curtain. Water pressure was not great, and even on the hottest setting, the water wasn't very warm and was very susceptible to getting colder. We were in town to visit the nearby sites, so we were out of the room most of the days. Imagine my surprise after returning that no housekeeping came after our first night. That was weird. After our second night, the housekeeper had come and made up the bedroom but not the living room (sofabed not made). She (she left a card with her name, Melaney) took the towels and again left only two clean towels. She did not take out the trash in any room. I was exhausted after a full day of driving and sightseeing, and the last thing I wanted to do was call down to the front desk to ask for two more towels and fresh sheets for the sofabed. It was very frustrating. Parking. The hotel itself only offers valet parking. There is a lot of street parking, and it is only $1/hour from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, $0.50/hour from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. There's an app, so you can remember your space # and pay from your phone in the morning. The location really is wonderful, and there are neat historical things about the hotel. The kids loved looking at all the pictures and the stuffed bison heads. The staff was friendly, even if the hotel wasn't run particularly well.

The rooms themselves were nice, comfortable beds, a fridge, a TV, the amenities that you need and want in a hotel room. The valet staff was always super nice and opened the door for us every time we walked in.

Now, I'm a bit of an admitted hotel snob, but my husband & I have been married over 25 years and he knows my limits and flexibility. He assured me the place was clean enough for my standards. We are Disney timeshare holders (DVC) and also patronize Airbnbs where we can. Otherwise I generally prefer at least a 3 star, Hampton Inn/Hilton Garden experience at a bare minimum. Sorry not sorry. This place is NOT that. It seems that since my husband's stay in 2018, and even since he booked our reservation earlier this year, ownership of the lodge has changed hands. While I'm appreciative that new ownership and the changes it brings, especially in this new normal of COVID, the service we have received this week has been dismal. I wasn't exactly impressed with the exterior when we arrived - the place is pretty 'vintage'. We were informed that there would be no routine room services performed due to COVID, and we found that we had had to repeatedly ask for things like towels, toilet paper and trash bags. This morning we specifically asked to have the room serviced since we've been here 4 nights now, yet we just returned from being out all day to freshly made beds, and nothing else. No towel restocking, no trash was emptied, no other cleaning, no supplies (hand soaps, in-room coffee supplies, etc) nothing. In my opinion this is pretty abysmal and completely out of the norm for a service industry. If a guest requests a room to be serviced, the staff should, at a minimum, prepare that room to a new guest-ready/turnover level. I was willing to overlook all the other stuff but today's experience was just a nudge too far. Who in the service industry goes into a room and ignores 3 trash cans that need to be emptied? Dead bug in the sink? We have 1 washcloth for 3 people. Nothing was vacuumed or wiped down and nothing restocked. We got a decent rate on this stay, but not good enough that I'm porting my own trash out on the regular and going to Walmart to buy toilet paper. This isn't a timeshare or Airbnb stay where more autonomy is expected on the guests' part. The hot tub is closed, which again, in the age of COVID is a no-brainer, but the area looks janky with a bunch of large rocks on the spa's lid. The front office hours are hit or miss and the 'breakfast offerings' are meager as well, with a few danishes and what looks like whatever yogurt cups were purchased the night before. No rhyme, reason, or standards. Interactions with staff have not been especially friendly or outgoing, odd behavior for a family-owned and run service-industry business. We have 3 more nights here and future return trips to Rapid City will be booked elsewhere. 2 stars because the view of Rapid City from up here is nice. Otherwise 1.

Speaking of, this place is dog friendly, with an additional fee. Great grassy area (please be respectful owners, so this place continues to allow dogs) to play in. Not a lot of sidewalks on this part of town, so the grassy space was much appreciated. Not sure if I would get thr chance to stay here again, but I would book again for sure.

At 2:30 a.m., we had to walk to another hotel hoping they had a room available. Thankfully, they did because of a last-minute cancellation. The next morning, I spoke with the manager, Stacy, who was absolutely horrified by what had happened. She sincerely apologized, refunded our stay, provided complimentary breakfast for our family of four, arranged a ride for my husband to pick up our rental car, and reimbursed our Uber from the night before. Her kindness and professionalism completely changed our impression of the hotel. While I truly appreciate everything Stacy did to make things right, the overnight employee's actions were unacceptable. A family with young children should never be turned away from a room that was fully paid for and reserved months in advance after the hotel had been informed of a delayed arrival. I hope additional training is provided so no other family has to go through what we experienced.
