The room needed serious updating. Although the theme is rustic, the exposed pipe, outdated lighting, and shabby paint job made us feel as though we were in a cheap motel. The room was small and the bathroom smaller. The toilet didn't flush right, the thermostat did not work, and the cleaning staff kept leaving 3 towels instead of 4. The shower didn't maintain a constant temperature. For a pretty expensive hotel this was disappointing. There is no pool or other entertainment for kids. The vending machines didn't work and stole our money. There is no continental breakfast, but the restaurant downstairs offered breakfast for a price. $14 buffet but it was terrible. Dry eggs, old, hard French toast sticks, and old coffee. The staff was excellent despite the poor food. The location is great however, parking was easy and convenient and we enjoyed the local shops and sites. The fire pit outside was cool. read more

I always stay at best westerns. We been traveling since May 12 2024. Probably stay the majority of the nights in Best Western. We are at the tail end of travel for the summer. We were looking forward to Sturgis and staying at The Rushmore for end of summer fun. We have stayed there twice before for Sturgis. This year not so good. Front desk not that nice. Issues with parking this year plus disabling the key cards. Restaurant not as good as previous years. A lot of money this past summer we have spent with Best Western. Nothing to complain about at all. Friendly staff, spacious room with a view of a dinosaur on a hill. How many hotel views offer that?? The bed was comfy and the air conditioner almost silent, not one of those loud ones that they have over at Alex Johnson. We ate breakfast out of the hotel as there are so many nice coffee shops close by. The bar was good and of course there was an autographed picture of nic cage on the wall from his stay. Overall, a fine place to stay when visiting the area. I appreciate that it is an Eco Hotel. The rooms are modern and the staff is friendly enough. One woman at the front office was very helpful and friendly! We had the same server for dinner and breakfast, he remembered us and was patient and helpful dealing with our large group. The Housekeeping team came through bright and early blasting music and banging doors; unfortunate for anyone trying to sleep in a bit. The few housekeeping employees I came across didn't smile and seemed annoyed by our presence. They have a hard job and maybe they were having a hard day but there is no need to blast music so early in the morning and basically yell to speak to each other in the halls. We are a Best Western member. I think when they advertise themselves as a BW hotel they should offer free breakfast like other BW hotels especially for the price of the room. We only stayed one night. Everything was fine. Close to downtown. Be advised don't go eat at that pub after like 9pm they act REAL funny although they are open til midnight. Parking right next to parking hotel. I guess my only gripe is that I asked for a room in quiet area. We were basically put in a corner unit next to the entrance about 4th floor. Loud AF from the traffic. A lot of negative reviews. I just need a clean/quiet place to sleep and my car not get broken into. That's it. As of 7/5/2024, Bedbugs in room 809 at The Rushmore. We made the day manager aware of the infestation, and asked to have our room moved. Best practice is to move two floors away. We asked them to move us while we were out on that excursion. When we returned, later that evening, they had moved us one door over to room 808. We couldn't believe the incompetency. Best practice is a room two floors away from the infested room. We refused 808, then they gave us a room on the fifth floor, brought in a refrigerator per our request, and the inside of the refrigerator was sticky and gross. We asked for the manager to come up by now, it was the evening manager, she knew nothing about 809's bedbugs, she gave us a room on the ninth floor "upgrade". This is the Room we spent our last night, the floor had not been vacuumed, and there was a used bar of soap in the shower. The night manager said she would give us a discount for the inconvenience. She gave us $50 off our five night stay. We felt she should have done more for us as the bedbugs situation doesn't stop there. We had to take our luggage home, put in large black trash bags and keep them in the trunk of our car For several days, and still risking bringing bedbugs to our home. Buyer beware. Check your room for bedbugs before you unpack. read more

First let me say the folks that work here are lovely. Everyone was kind, friendly and very helpful. The location is great, walking distance to plenty of food and drink options. 5 stars for location and kindness of staff! 1 star for comfort and cleanliness. Although the room itself was clean-ish, the pillows were old, stained, musty and lumpy and did not have the type of pillow case to keep the pillow properly enclosed so you felt like you were sharing a pillow with several years with of sleeping strangers. Both my husband and I have allergies and the HVAC system is desperately in need of a filter change. Every time it would kick on the room would become dusty, which made sleeping really difficult. We were plugged up and sneezing all night. Also, the walls were absolutely caked with dust. Difficult to photograph adequately but if you look at my photo, you can actually see a hand print left by a previous guest. The walls were literally furry with built up dust. A Swiffer duster and some new filters would go a long way for this hotel! We were both miserably snotty from the dust- something to beware of if you are sensitive like us. Great folks here but the rooms are a bit tired and could definitely use a little more attention to dust. We are both super stuffy and exhausted, so probably wouldn't stay here again. If allergies/cleanliness aren't top priorities tho, this place is a great economy hotel! read more

The main thing I wanted from this hotel was its downtown location, and that worked out great. I was walking distance to a couple breweries and right on the Walk of Presidents. The price was right, and parking was free and plentiful. In my opinion the rooms were very dated. The shower drain was broke and there was a leak in my bathroom ceiling. I had a king room with a city view and the room lacked a fridge and microwave, that bummed me out. Not sure if its a new policy because of Covid (I stayed Memorial Weekend 2020) but they didn't clean my room at all in the three days I was there. There are probably nicer hotels in the area if you're bringing your family to visit the Black Hills. read more

Very nice & clean hotel. Staff was super friendly and accommodating to an early arrival. We got a room on the eighth floor on a corner which was very nice facing the city. Big windows so a nice sunrise. I paid extra for a refrigerator but that was fine since the nightly rate was already a good deal! Definitely check out Black Hills Bagels for breakfast, so good. Lots of positives: Awesome location, very close to restaurants and bars. Affordable. Really cute, quirky room decor and wallpaper. Crazy carpet. Clean room. Beautiful lobby. In-house bar/lounge. Great WiFi. Friendly staff. Photo wall of famous people who've stayed there. A locked top floor for those who want extra security. Negatives: You can hear right through the walls. Our neighbors were having a grand old party. If you're traveling with children or light sleepers, bring ear plugs. I wish I'd brought some and I'm a heavy sleeper. Not necessarily negative, just a heads up. If you're a germaphobe, remember this is an eco hotel. Which means there's large bottles of shared liquid body wash and shampoo/conditioner in the shower. You do not get your own little bottles, so bring your own if you don't like using communal shower products. They do provide individually wrapped soap and makeup remover though. I read other yelp reviews that raved about the omelette bar and breakfast buffet at Enigma, the in house restaurant. I picked Rushmore over Hilton because of this breakfast buffet with omelette station. Alas, we did not get to experience it. Ate on a Friday morning and a Saturday morning (both times they had things set up in the little bar lounge) - the breakfast was identical both mornings and did not have anything special. No hot items at all, no eggs, no bacon, no make your own waffle. There weren't even bagels or bread. That said, they did offer orange juice, coffee, fruit, hard boiled eggs, nutrigrain bars, cereal, granola, pastries, sweet loafs (like lemon poppyseed), muffins, and berry scones. If you're diabetic, hope you like hard boiled eggs and coffee. They go heavy on the sweet stuff there. But they still get a solid 4 stars despite me feeling a little ripped off they don't actually serve a hot breakfast out of Enigma. read more

Maybe it's just a South Dakota thing, but $79 for a king room on the 9th floor (aka, the presidential floor)? Yeah...that's an amazing deal for this spot. There are a few bars and restaurants within walking distance (like...not even a full block away). The rooms have cool decor, the beds are super comfy, and if you get a city view you can sit at the bar in your room and look out over the city while you work, hang out or whatever! The Rushmore hotel is located near the main part of town in Rapid City. It's a good hotel for your overnight stays while visiting the nearby attractions; like Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. The Rushmore hotel is a regular stop for many bus tour companies. A friendly staff that greets you upon entering a smallish lobby area. You check in, grab your key and head to your room. The rooms are good sized and decorated with the tourist in mind. The wall above the bed has a huge picture of the presidents sculptures from Rushmore. It made me laugh to myself thinking about how they stare at you when you have a romantic evening. The opposite wall had a map showing some of the nearby attractions. A big window allowed plenty of light into the room. I found the room to be a bit dingy. The ceiling looked like it was coming apart in places and the smallish bathroom had what looked like a big painted wooden panel screwed into the ceiling. The floorboards along the bottom of the walls looked like they were put in haphazardly and the big bathroom sliding door seemed out of place. The bathtub did not look smooth and clean and looked like it needed to be refinished or replaced. As a base to stay for a 1 or 2 day tour, the Rushmore Hotel suffices as a good place to rest and pick up a meal. The free breakfast buffet was decent and there are plenty of eating establishments within walking distance. read more

My sister, cousin and I stayed at this hotel over the weekend. I had messaged them last minute the night before, notifying them it was my sister's birthday. I hadn't heard back but when we walked into our hotel room, there was a nice surprise of chocolate covered strawberries waiting for her! This was a sweet touch. Thank you! I wish I knew who left this so I could thank you in person. The hotel is the perfect location and within walking distance to so many restaurants and bars downtown. And it's only 30 minutes away from Mount Rushmore. The rooms were very clean and the staff was super friendly. Check in wasn't supposed to be until 4pm but our room was ready as soon as we arrived (around 1-2pm). The girls at the front desk were so sweet and accommodating. One night we asked for towels and the gentleman brought a whole bag full of them, all different sizes. I had originally wanted to stay at the Alex Johnson Hotel but they were booked for our weekend. Two first impressions, first the smell of homemade cookies in the lobby, don't get too excited those were a welcome gift for the tour group who came in as I was checking in. Second, the staff at check in are very efficient and will ask your name two steps into the lobby and then immediately request your ID and credit card. All this before you make it to the Counter. Never mind that you are juggling your bags. It's unnerving that the staff were comfortable enough with guest checking in to bad mouth other guests in the hotel. I've never seen or heard this before. The king "suite" was tired and dated, but clean. The mattress was sagging from age. Here's a clue for the hotel to help the mattress longevity, flip it occasionally. The HVAC is not very effective and loud!! Maintenance should consider changing the filters. Once the fan clicked on, The tv volume had to be turned up otherwise forget watching tv. The internet is free and you get what you pay for, which is to say little to nothing. Thank goodness I always travel with a hot spot. The quality of this hotel is not worth the price. I could have save some money and stayed elsewhere. However, the location does have a few benefits. read more

Not a bad stay overall. About 25 miles from Mount Rushmore, nice sized rooms, and conveniently located in the downtown area of Rapid City, which is within walking distance to various eateries and shops. The staff was very pleasant from the front desk to the restaurant. Also, parking wasn't bad at all (at most hotels, parking gets a little terrible later in the evening) and they have a shuttle if needed to take you to the airport. I also love the complimentary breakfast buffet you receive during your stay. My husband and I loved the decor and the theme of the room, which was what attracted us the most in selecting this hotel. I loved the sliding barn door to the bathroom and the other eclectic decorative pieces in the room as well. I had a couple of hangups: the bathtub didn't drain well at all- it drained very slow, the hot water didn't last too long (I get it is an Eco hotel, but still...), and no ironing board or iron. These things may not be a big deal to some, but I was here on business and these things matter as I travel frequently for work and have more than my share of lodging at hotels. read more

Rae Andre is the worst manager I've ever encountered!! She has zero customer service skills and she can't even form a sentence let alone attempt to give facts with real information. She should not be in any sort of public relations or customer service situations. I'm not sure how she is able to keep her job at this beautiful hotel as it was a pleasant experience until I came in contact with her! She is poorly dressed and has no manners and was of No help whatsoever!! Please fire her so I can feel comfortable coming back to your hotel. Originally, I wanted to stay at the Alex Hotel, but after I read many of the reviews here and on Trip Advisor, I decided not to. I may give them a try next time. The Rushmore was in a great location downtown, within walking distance to many shops and restaurants and there is a pretty kool bar (Murphys) across the street. The room was 'normal' size, we had room 704, it had enough space for 2 people (2 dbl beds), the bathroom was normal sized but just average nothing outstanding, but it was clean. The whole room as clean. The restaurant, we had breakfast there, the food was average, not awful but not 5 star, it was very affordable. The parking situation was crazy, there is a very big lot, the first 2 nights (oct 9,10/2020) the lot was packed and hard to find a spot, Sunday night was much better. It was free so that was really nice and I won't complain about that. The front desk, everyone I encountered, was super nice and very friendly and helpful! Despite the location, the room as really quite soundproof, there was some loud motorcycle traffic but honestly, it was not bad. Would I stay here again? Yes, definitely if I ever make my way back. read more

The place is clean but My Cousin Vinnie train goes through during the night. Tonight I'm waiting for the pigs to be rounded up on Main St. Downtown is very nice and everyone is very friendly. The bedding is very comfortable and the towels are great. The rest of our group has said that there is many things in one room are not in another. When I was planning my trip to South Dakota, I was super excited to find Adoba as a hotel option. The rooms looked fantastic, with giant murals of Mt. Rushmore or a Sturgis Rally on the walls, neat furniture, and it's green, so that's pretty cool, I thought. When I arrived, I found several things to be disappointing. First, was that, upon entering my room, I discovered not a funky mural, but incredibly bland wallpaper. Seriously, about 84% of the reason I booked this place was for the promise of wacky decor. The website is incredibly misleading regarding the rooms. The furniture was cute enough, but still lackluster compared to photos of the rooms that are shown online. The second was that despite having booked a handicapped accessible room, there were not many accommodation made. When I entered the bathroom, I discovered that the toilet was standard height, if not a bit lower, and there were no grab bars nearby. Similarly, the bathtub was a standard tub. That did have grab bars, but I wasn't able to get in regardless. I noticed a bit later, that there was a toilet riser under the sink. I have a) never seen a hotel resort to that as an accommodation and b) don't think it should be up to the guest to install it. But, install it I did (it was honestly still pretty low). The rest of the room was fine, but bathroom accessibility is very important. The third was that the hotel didn't really seem all that eco-friendly. No low flow toilets or automatic faucets. The light bulbs in my room were not CFLs and I did not see a notice of any linen program asking guests to consider re-using towels and not having their sheets changed daily. There were no in-room recycling bins. My fourth disappointment, and this may just be my own problem, was that the restaurant and room service closed at 9 pm. That just seems a little early to me. That one was readily solved by Pizza Hut delivery one night and Chinese food delivery the other. I did have breakfast at the hotel restaurant, called Enigma, the first morning I was there, since it was part of my room rate. Basically everything tasted like grease and when I was getting up from my chair to leave (remember, I do have muscular dystrophy and use a walker), the waitress said to me, "You poor thing". I didn't return the next morning. The customer service upon arrival and check out was actually quite good. The Adoba has that in its favor. If you have no special needs and don't care about the design of your room, this place is just fine. The price was right for the amenities and the location convenient to many sights. If you want a room like the ones shown on their website, I would call and inquire about them directly when you make a reservation. I would also ask for specifics if you require handicap accessibility in your room. read more

I loved this place! My fiancée, son and I stayed here for 2 nights and it was great! Our room was in excellent condition and the art work was awesome. There was a mural of Mt Rushmore in the wall. Some may not think it's cool, but I sure did. We had the complimentary breakfast after our first night and the hostess, an older lady (I didn't catch her name) was great to interact with. She played with my son and then gave us some ideas on places to go and see. She's an excellent employee! Thank you so much for the hospitality...while I doubt I'll be in Rapid city again any time soon, I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone that does come here! read more
