In all of my working years, I was loyal to the Marriott brand and have continued to be in retirement. Recently, though, I have had a few bad experiences with Marriott properties and last night was one of them. First, parking was an absolute nightmare. This hotel charges to park and guess what? I had to circle the lot for 10 minutes until I finally saw someone pulling out of a space. Paying to park apparently doesn't guarantee that there will be space. Secondly, the girl at the front desk was by far the most flippant, arrogant reception person I have ever encountered at a Marriott. I really liked this hotel...it comes with water park tickets and the room was nicely updated. I especially liked their shower. Sadly, the keys did not work good at all ( I guess the key reader was out of battery?), so we had to get someone to open our room with a master key 3 times on one night stay. We also did a late-checkout so we could go to the waterpark and come back and shower, but the hot water system was off. I was told that it would come back at 3pm but it never did till after I checked out at 4pm. It was a very inconvenient one night stay, and it is a shame because I loved the room and ammenities. read more

This hotel is very clean, fairly priced, and in a convenient location to explore the town. It's still a newer hotel too, which probably adds to cleanness. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only downsides are that the shower doesn't have a door on it so it lets out some hot air and you may get some water on the water, and the parking lot is shared with 2 other hotels. It's a little congested but there were always spots to park. read more

Really happy with our stay here. We drove up from Denver to check out Mt Rushmore , Badlands , and other Black Hills attractions. Rapid City was our base camp and the Courtyard by Marriott did not disappoint. It was easy check in , affordable rates, and super clean and updated ! The lobby and very nicely decorated, pretty lighting , and the entire hotel smelled so nice !! Our room also matched the esthetics of the lobby , modern and tastefully designed and again very clean , big tv, comfy beds and good shower ! Microwave and fridge also present . They have laundry room , and a very impressive legit gym !! So nice !! Lobby as small bar . The have outside pool area with a long fire table , so you sit and enjoy the evening. plenty of free parking . I can't complain about anything. Great location among other big name hotels and a popular Indoor water park is also next door . I expected a bunch of kids running around , but nope , it was quiet and kind of sophisticated! We have stayed at this courtyard by marriott in rapid city many many times, as we travel often to Sioux Falls. Yesterday, upon checking in, we were hit with a $9+ parking fee - what an unpleasant surprise! Could hardly believe it and the fee to park! certainly impacted our attitude to stay. There was born warning about this ridiculous fee ahead of time. I mean, who WALKS to their hotel?! Of course a person DRIVES to the hotel. We will stay somewhere else in the future.​ read more

We came to stay at the hotel as a base for our visit to Mt Rushmore. We had just checked out of an Autograph Collection hotel in the Marriott family in Jackson WY so we knew we had to adjust our expectation coming to The Courtyard. However, we were very pleasantly surprised how updated the hotel was - The lobby, the hallway and our room. Everything was immaculate and clean. There was ample room for luggage for 2 adults. We a had nice view of hills in front of the hotel. It was late afternoon when we checked in and we opted for an early dinner at the hotel bistro. I ordered tomato soup and grilled cheese. It was simple but it was way better than anything we had in Yellowstone NP and Grand Teton NP (including the Yellowstone Hotel Dining Room and the Old Faithful In Dining Room)! The location is convenient. It was only 30 minutes to Mt Rushmore,ore and 10 minutes to the major chain stores and eateries to stock up for our road trip. read more

The room was nice and modern as it's fairly new. The bed/ pillow was comfortable. The bathroom was spacious. There is also a mini fridge and microwave that we made use of. The walls were a little thin though, as I heard my neighbors tv. read more

We were in the area and stayed 3 nights here in a very spacious room. Loved the layout of our room and the atmosphere in the bistro area. We always had the most amazing service here in the am for coffee. Shout out to Bistro staff. Always a pleasure with all of the staff here. Breakfast is not free but it sure is yummy if you do decide to pay for it. Fast elevators. Front Desk staff were friendly but didn't seem to have answers to the few questions I did have. We were told we had a certain dollar amount in daily credit, due to bonvoy status and number of travelers, and we didn't. I sure don't like being told one thing from the staff and it ends up being incorrect. Had I known this we would've selected the points option instead. Also, heads up with the parking. When we left it was noticed two cars down from us had their SUV back window busted out. They were even parked right under the light. We had no issues with this though. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I booked on the Bonvoy app while driving from Texas to Washington. I received a text that our room was ready. This property is wonderful and we actually stayed a second night. This was truly a respite in our travels. We were greeted immediately and the rest was a walk in the park. We went up to our immaculate room. We rested a bit and then wondered to the lobby for a cocktail. Who knew we would be walking into the most delightful evening. Josh and Connie were on duty. We went to the counter to order our drinks and then found a seat. Connie delivered our drinks and answered our questions with inviting enthusiasm and knowledge. We decided order the garlic and Parmesan wings. They were dry and bland. Would not do those again and felt sorry for everyone who did. Since we were watching the game, we had plenty of time to observe our surroundings. Josh and Connie worked together like art in the making. They attended to the whole lobby effortlessly. Picking up where one left off, and always engaging or reading the client, with eye contact and smiles. Everyone's need a were met. All of these good vibes took away the fact that I had been away home for 10 days. We were so comfy that we decided to book another night. Unfortunately we had to move rooms because all the kings were booked for the next night. She offered to keep our bags for the day instead of putting it back in our car and we graciously accept. We received a text in the late afternoon that our bags were taken our room. We only needed to stop and pick up our keys. The second evening we were back. Only Connie was here working with another gentleman. Connie felt familiar. She remembered our drinks and we ordered different food that was decent. (Chicken quesadilla and margarita flatbread). We enjoyed our evening and slept nestled in our bed. The next morning, upon depositing our keys, we were greeted again with a smile and "Hope you enjoyed your stay" farewell. I loved this hotel and wished everyone was like them. You HAVE to stay here. Thank you to everyone who was with us those 2 days. read more

Stayed April 20-21 and I will say the price was good and the accommodations were modern, clean and new but... But I can get that anywhere... Marriott, Hilton, etc. why bother be loyal to Marriott? They reward you, that's why.... Or do they? The Gold Elite status note in the mobile app indicated that a complementary upgrade will be provided if one was available. I checked the availability of a better room in the app before I approached the desk and the app would let me book the better room. Proof that it was available that night. Upon approaching the front desk, I asked if the complementary upgrade was available. I indicated that the mobile app clearly showed availability of nicer rooms. The clerk said no complementary upgrade was available but I could pay for an upgrade. The clerk pointed out complementary upgrades at that Marriott were reserved for Platinum Elite. Then he launched into all sorts of excuses about not being a luxury hotel which had no bearing on the request or the Marriott policy of providing the upgrade if available clearly stated in the app. And we checked in after 10 pm. Pretty safe to say that there wouldn't be a random Platinum Elite member sauntering in without a reservation looking for an upgrade for a single nite stay that night. Marriott Gold Elite is worth iron pyrite (fools gold) at this hotel... something South Dakota is famous for apparently. Thankfully our other 4 hotels this trip were accommodating and followed Marriott policy and offers. read more

Family vacation 2021...bringing the California variant of COVID-19 to your city. There is no pandemic here in this part of South Dakota. This was the first Marriott property that we stayed at where almost everyone including the Marriott employees did not wear masks. The only people wearing masks were my fellow Asians and at risk people. It was nice to finally take that mask off. The Courtyard was the perfect hotel for us to stay at for our adventures around the Rapid City area. It was in proximity to everything including Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Sturgis, Deadwood, the Black Hills and Wall Drug. The Courtyard is a newer hotel. The hotel implies that they are in Rapid City, but, they are really in Box Elder, a couple miles away from Rapid City itself. As a Southern California resident, I didn't know better, nor did it matter. The room we were given was very roomy, yet nicely decorated. It had 2 queen beds as requested. The shower was a walk in shower. They had a shower dispenser of Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree shampoo, conditioner and soap in the shower. The room was very comfortable to stay in at night after a long day of exploring. Marriott Platinum and above member are given a choice of points or $10 per adult (up to two) for breakfast. We chose the breakfast from their Bistro Bar. The Bistro Bar does a very good job with breakfast. Their breakfast is cooked to order and is much better than the scrambled eggs, served at other hotels with breakfast buffets. I liked this hotel. Not because it gave me freedom from my mask, but because it was a very good property in a very good location. The staff was nice and helpful. They made me wish that I had stayed more than 2 nights here. I'm ready to go back now and visit more of the sights around the Rapid City area. read more

Avoid this place at all cost! The management is terrible Jesse and Adam to be exact, they really need to some additional training on good customer service. I was once a manager in the hospitality industry and the way they handled this situation was so insensitive. Although I am only Silver Elite (will reach Gold this month), I held Marriott to such a high standard especially when it comes to how they treat their loyal customers. I arrived on business for a 1 night stay. I checked in to my room and was freshening up before attending a work event. When an employee barged in the room unannounced and once they saw the room was being occupied they frantically ran back into the hall. I stepped out to see what was going on as it startled me. The employee responded by saying "it won't happen again" and continued on. When I came back from my work event I noticed bugs in the tissue box in the bathroom and thought eh maybe its a one off. Then I noticed another bug on the ceiling shortly after, photos attached. I called down to the front desk to notify them and an employee came upstairs to take a look. When she saw the bug she said oh thats just a "whatever the name of the bug was (it was warm out)" it's just because of the weather, but I can move you. I've travelled the world to tropical and much warmer places, I've even done a 2 night Safari in the Masai Mara in Africa and never had a bug in my room. I moved to the second room and woke up to bugs on the window and this nasty stain on the window seal that looks like it could have been cleaned easily. The series of unfortunate events doesn't stop here unfortunately, after I arrived back home and showered I went to grab my reading glasses out of my bag and they were gone. I know they were stolen because I never put the glasses on while I was there. I wore contacts there and was tired from traveling and my event that I took a shower took the contacts out and went to sleep. Then awakened to more bugs and was eager to get out there quickly! I was there for 1 day with a small hardshell carry on bag and computer bag that was never opened after leaving the hotel until I arrived at home. When I called to inquire about the glasses the employee on the phone asked what brand they were and I replied Tom Ford. She put me on hold for maybe 20 seconds and came back and said they aren't here. I called a few times with the same outcome and eventually left a survey describing the incidents. Adam wrote back a generic statement saying they'd look into it and would share feedback to prevent this from happening again essentially. Adam did not bother to ask me what the glasses looked like, if they were in a case, what color they were... Nothing! So I reached out to customer service and Jesse contacted me with the same generic copy and pasted email again not even bothering to ask about details. My company has this property on our booking portal but I will be notifying them of this and recommending my co - workers stay somewhere else. I gave this property ample opportunity to remedy this issue (it happened 10/19/23), but since they have not I will be reaching out to their corporate and filing a police report (at the suggestion of Jesse). read more

Stopped in here on our cross country road trip on our Mount Rushmore leg. Little did we know that it was the beginning of the Sturgis event and the place was slammed packed. Had to be 200 bikes in the parking lot. The staff handled it wonderfully. Went in about 11pm to check in and there was a long line. But they ran through it quickly. I even made a huge mistake when booking the room through mariott bonvoy app. I didn't hit confirm so when they went to look for my reservation it wasn't there. Completely my fault. With the huge crowd I just knew I was screwed. But they told me that had one double queen suite left and even price matched my app price for me and got me booked. So great customer service. The room itself was very spacious and huge. Very modern. I was a fan of the double tvs one for the two queens and the other For the pull out sofa bed. Also had a great patio setup. Conveniently located near foot establishments and within 25-30 min of all the major attractions including Mount Rushmore. read more

Staying here currently for a few days and will update before I leave. The room is nice and comfortable the bathroom is modern and well done. I have no complaints at this time. The staff at the check in was very friendly and alert to our requests of extra towels and pillow. They told us the housekeeping staff is only on every other day, which was good to know upon check in and of course should we need anything they would be happy to help us. We had breakfast at the bistro which is common now at courtyard locations of average Starbucks coffee and the breakfast was adequate my burrito was piping hot and the addition of avocado on side welcome due to the hotel pricing. read more

Nice new hotel that I booked only a few weeks in advance at a very attractive rate for a four night stay. We used this as our base for visiting the sites in the Black Hills. Given the rate I figured the place would be empty since no one would be traveling - so wrong, it was jammed every night. Glad we were in relatively early each evening so we could get a parking spot. Given there are 3-4 hotels together and the Courtyard's parking lot was under construction in mid-Sept it was a mess. Only real disappointment was that there were no upgraded rooms available for a GOLD member. Looks like Covid has also eliminated small touches like free bottles of water. The rooms were very nice with frig, microwave and a great bathroom. they were also very quiet - could not hear the construction. Staff was friendly and wore masks (most patrons did but not all). One minor thing - oil all of the hinges of your room and bathroom doors. Not sure why new doors would creak so badly but wow they were loud. read more

Stayed here twice because we like Marriott, and the hotel is elegantly laid out and in a great location. But we won't again. The little things have worn out our sense of welcome - trouble finding help at the desk, no information on locations of ice, non-functional ice machines, etc. The LAST straw is no tea (or hot chocolate, cider, etc.) with the coffee machine in the room. When I asked, I'm told that I can BUY tea... Huh? It's a tea bag. I can bring them with me, too, but for the price of the room, it is ridiculous. Especially since a room at the Baymont or Best Western is similar price, maybe not as nice a room, but includes a breakfast!! Just too much nickle-and-dime. read more

Fantastic rooms, great location!!! The rooms: the hotel rooms were very clean. The bed was super comfortable, and the pillows were a nice quality. The room also had a couch and a nice big screen TV that actually worked! You can login to your Netflix account or watch tv. I remember there were movie channels and Nickelodeon. The bathroom was spacious, it did NOT smell weird, had NICE shampoo, and the shower head had great pressure. The lobby: they served basic fresh made breakfast (eggs), and also had a limited Starbucks menu. The lobby was always packed! People seem to really enjoy it. There were tables that had TVs for those on business to connect their computer and other work equipment. The outside: there's a cool fire pit hangout! The water park: you can pay for a discounted ticket to take kids to the water park. I did not try this. The location: great location! Within 10-15 minutes from the airport. 10-15 minutes to downtown Rapid City. I liked that it's just outside the city so it's not so busy and you don't hear city sounds. Close to the freeway. Great central location for your traveling of south west South Dakota! I recommend and would stay here again. read more

So we checked into this hotel, expecting the usual Marriott atmosphere. Get to our room and unfortunately it's a room with a connecting door, which already means it's going to amplify sounds. The next door people included a crying baby and at least one toddler that was screaming, jumping off the furniture, dragging heavy stuff across the floor and trying to get out the hallway door and banging it over and over-and this was 5:30 p.m. My husband and I went out and on the way back I spoke to the desk rep and said look, I understand people have kids but this is over the top and I hate to be THAT person, but if it continues and I can't get it under control I'll be calling, He said, please call us first and let us intervene. So from 7:30-11:30 it was non stop baby crying, toddler screaming and jumping around and the TV must've been set to a kid movie at high volume. At 9:30 I called the desk and said, look I understand babies cry, but the toddler needs to be gotten under control and can they PLEASE turn down the TV volume and the hall door is partly open, can they please close that to keep more noise in the room. Went to bed around 11-still lots of noise. At 12:30 my husband had had enough after it sounded like they were moving furniture all over the room and loud thumping. He banged on the connecting door and asked what's going on, called down and the desk rep said, well they have little kids. Again, the baby cries, we understand, but the toddler running amok a 12:30 is unacceptable. We even wondered if there were any grown ups in the room bc we never heard an adult voice and wondered if they just turned on the TV and toddler kept waking the baby and jumping around. Needless to say we did not get a good night's sleep and had to be up early for an early flight. The crowning glory is 2 pizza boxes in front of our room when we open our door. This was NOT a Marriott experience. I would be hesitant to stay here again. The room was nicely appointed and spacious, the bathroom was nice, however, the most important thing is a good night's sleep. And that didn't happen. I stay in A LOT of Marriott properties, and I am fond of the Courtyard product. This property appears to be fairly new. It is maintained very well, very clean inside and out. Prior to my arrival, I received a personal text message from the front desk advising that my room was ready. This was not the typical automatically system generated one, the front desk sent me an actual personalized text message. I was impressed before I arrived. The hotel is much larger than others that I have been in. There is a large conference area with several meeting rooms. All have wireless access, projectors and mounted screens. What a step up! The hotel rooms are almost of the common variety with courtyard but stepped up a bit. The one that that bugs me about most hotels is a place to put my roll aboard suitcase while I unpack or just leave my stuff packed. They have a brilliant solution! The normally too small thing for your suitcase actually slides out laterally away from the desk. Kudos for that Marriott! There are only 2 drawers to store things and they are both inside the pull out described above. A small fridge, microwave, coffee/tea station along with a 65" tv round out the amenities. The only complaint was the lack of on site parking. This is mostly due to construction adjacent to the hotel. There is on street parking (very low volume of traffic) or parking across the street at the Residence Inn. If you are up in the area certainly give this place a shot. read more

Visiting from Denver and we arrived early at 4 am. On the drive we were looking to stay somewhere in between in Nebraska or South Dakota but every place was booked. We went in to the lobby and the overnight girl was nice enough to let us lay down on the couches and rest. She said there was a possibility of early check in around 9 am. We tried to ask the next lady who came in for the morning shift if they could get us in and she said give us 30 minutes but she was clueless. When I asked again I was speaking to a manager who was front and center and she made sure I could check in as soon as a room was clean. That ended up being at noon. The room was really clean. It smelt good. Shampoo and body wash was great. Very unique shower. Had 0 problems during the stay. It's also a newer hotel with a nice big lobby. Plenty of snacks and a restaurant for a quick bite. I booked a stay from Sat-Wed. I always stay here at least once a month when I come to town from California on buisness . I don't know what has happened to this place but the service has gone down hill since July of this year. The food at the bistro here has suffered horribly. I ordered the medertanian grain bowl and it was complete trash for 20.00 add 6 bucks for chicken that was old dried up cubes of chicken. I complained to the manager and they said they would take it off my credit card and credit back to me and the manager Jessy lied. I went downntje next smday to ask why it wasn't taken off and I kept getting the run around. Then I left on Monday to go meet my buisness partner and asked for my room to be cleaned and they didn't do it. What the hell.is going on here at Marriott? I pay good money to stay here and they leave my trash and not refresh my bed . For the love of God people. I could.of stayed some place else but Marriott always had such a good reputation but not this one it's gone straight to hell in a hand basket. This Courtyard by Marriott is less than 1 year old. The building looks fresh, lobby is great, and the rooms are sparkling clean. The not so good news is the staff is not organized, the new fitness center already has several broken down pieces of cardio and weight equipment, and the service aspect is not showing at the facility. Parking is pretty tight since its grouped with the Residence Inn and other neighboring hotels. The elevators are fast and efficient but the staff won't make the effort to keep the place looking great. Pizza boxes are strewn in the hallways after 10 hours, towels are not replaced in the fitness center, and the garbage cans are full and overflowing. My room was quiet and everything worked well even though the walls weren't very sound-proofed from neighboring people who were leaving and creating a minor disturbance on their way out in the early hours of the day. My next visit to Rapid City will be back in the Residence Inn based on this experience. read more

Paid $100 plus for a "king suite" I received a room with a stand up shower with no door so water leaks right onto the floor... wastes all the towels to clean up the floors while I try to relax. This is the smallest room I have had for the price. for one soda it is $5. The TV is smaller than my one at home. The bathroom door basically touches the toilet when open, the shower head malfunctions. The front desk working the night shift was scoffing at me under their breaths as well while I bought one bag of chips and two waters. I had cash in hand , they still asked if I was using "card or cash". The room I am in has a weird crawl space as well that is not stable. VERY unpleased. The sign in my room says to "close sliding glass door" but there is no sliding glass door... Needs a lot of work here. I will NOT recommend. -Julia H.. read more

Absolutely cannot recommend this hotel because of our recent experience there. We paid to stay a week and we are just so very disappointed with the shady women at the front desk. Ripped off our credit card for a meal we didn't even eat. We called to argue this fact and they promised a refund and we still have never gotten it. I asked them to explain the process of how people pay for their meals They said their practice is to of course trust the person ordering when they say what room to charge the meal to. Whattttt???? Someone else gave our room number and had a meal on us! Hope it was good! She said my signature didn't match theirs. Ok then why did we have to foot the bill for this thief? Sketchy business practices. Please watch your credit card charges and extra fees that they tack on and then stumble over their words trying to explain them. Made a call to corporate. Nearly new hotel with Excellent service! I brought my girlfriend and we got engaged at Mount Rushmore. The hotel staff made our stay exceptionally nice. They sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers to our room. Each night after sightseeing we took a drink from the bar out to the gas firepit on the patio. The Starbucks in the lobby was very convenient for morning wakeup. The room was big and nice, well laid out. The gym is really nice. No doubt that we will stay again at this Courtyard. Hotel was clean, newer. Only had handicapped room available that was on the "quiet" side. Still could hear freeway noises all night (trucks). Beds were comfortable. Not sure why courtyard doesn't include breakfast. We did try it one am, it was just okay. French toast was soggy. Coffee was good. Good location to stay for sightseeing in The area. The hotel is great and new and clean. There is no pool but you can get reduced ticket to the water park less than a block away. The only things I see as future problems is the size (width)of the hallway to the elevator which at this point is not an option to fix. The parking lot unless they are going to pave it cause it's a free for all and people parking and block the entrance. My coworker and I stayed for the duration of a conference we were attending and everything was great! The food at the Bistro was delicious! I ate there for 3 out of 5 nights and I highly recommend the Vegetable Pasta Bake and the Fried Bussell Sprouts! There are not many food options in the area and without access to Uber or Lyft, the Bistro really saved us time and hassle! Everyone behind the front desk was so kind and helpful (shoutout to Ross who was the kindest person ever!). They helped schedule airport shuttles and got my coworker and I everything we needed to help make our stay enjoyable. The rooms were very clean and the hotel is overall very new and well maintained. New hotel and very nice. The bartender Heidi was super friendly and made great drinks. She was busy but took the time to engage with us and checked back to see if we needed anything. She kept the bar very neat and tidy ensuring the area was clean. Front desk associate Jacob was very nice and accommodating. The first room we went to smelled of smoke so they quickly switched us to another room. i would recommend this location. read more

Just stayed here on our way to drive our daughter to college. Hotel is brand new and well done. Front desk staff is friendly and professional and our room was great. Love that they had full size bottles of Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower. Was a nice "extra." Only downside is the parking lot is not paved. So if you don't get one of the 5 spots in front of the hotel, you have to park in a gravel lot. read more

Despite being a Titanium member I was given a hotel room facing the noisy freeway. The room has no sound proofing to block out the noise. Also the room was an overnight hike from the elevator. Weirdest configured hotel I have ever been and little parking close to the front door. read more
