We stayed here for two nights, at approximately $120 a night, and overall, it was a good stay. The motel is right next to interstate 40, and also on old Route 66. Plenty of places to eat, fill up your car, and shop. There is a native American gift shop in the parking lot of the motel, it has a lot of neat items at reasonable prices. I bought a necklace and a small native American pendant, and the man who ran the shop was willing to bargain the price down a little bit. Even without bargaining, the prices were reasonable. Overall, it was good. The motel was clean, and the room was older, but also clean the bathroom was spotless, the TV had a good picture with a good number of channels, the beds were very comfortable and the Wi-Fi worked great. One thing about the shower, the first time I took a shower, it felt weird, because it felt like the soap was staying on my body. It felt like it was taking longer to wash off. I discovered that's because the water in Gallup is very soft. It leaves the natural oils on your skin, that wash away with hard water. Soft water is actually better for your skin. Breakfast was OK, your basic choices, and they also had a lady there that made omelettes to order. It was good. The one thing that was a little bit tricky, was that the motel has a guest Laundry. However, unlike most motels, they didn't have any soap available, you have to go elsewhere to get it, and for getting change, for the Laundry, they neither had a change machine, and the front desk did not have change either. If they're going to provide a Laundry, they should be willing to provide change. We had to leave the property to go get change for the laundry. Other than that, it was a good stay. I read the reviews before I made my reservation and I decided to give Sleep Inn the benefit of the doubt. At check in I was registered and had my room key in just a matter of 2 or 3 minutes. The 1 king bed room is small, like an Econo Lodge, the commode and the shower stall share a closet size room. The bed occupies a large percentage of the main room. The TV is on the cheaper side with a pretty below average picture. The room was kind of clean but dirty around the edges. The lotion tube was capped and it it's proper place with the shampoo. The lotion tube was empty, probably a distorted sense of humor from the previous guest. The bed was on the harder size but I slept well I would have given 3 stars for the room but the breakfast was worth an extra star. They have a person there preparing omelettes to order. I ordered a green chili omelette and it was good. Overall my stay was ok and I would stay there again. read more

On my way to Oklahoma. I stopped at the Sleep Inn in Gallup, New Mexico and was very happy with my room. The king size bed was clean and very comfortable. For a family of four it might be considered small but for a couple it's nice and cozy. When I return home from my trip, I stayed at the Sleep Inn again and was very pleased with my second stay. Woke up barely able to move and got my suit on to go soak in their advertised hot tub only to find out the pool and hot tub have been closed for months! I base my hotel picks on places that have a hot tub because I am disabled. Bed bugs. Enough said. Upon initial arrival, we noticed a musty smell and some other odd odor that reminded us of cat urine. We were utterly exhausted and almost falling asleep upright though and overlooked the discomforting odors- chalking it up to a musty A/C unit (btw, which also rattles when on). We sprayed perfume into the air to mask the odor and one of us sprayed a lice repellant on our hair (because these scents did cause us to question the cleanliness of the room). We checked the sheets for any noticeable stains or obvious fleas/bugs. We were doing all of this on a mere 4 hours of sleep and it was now 2:30 am after a long day of road travel, so we were not extremely thorough. Within about 4 hrs I awoke with intense itching all over my right side. I checked my skin thinking it was probably a mosquito or spider bite. What I saw shocked me. I was covered in bites on the side I was sleeping on- my arm, leg, back, shoulder, neck. My son also had bites on both legs. I was totally disgusted!! This was horrifying. It was then we did a more thorough examination of the bed and found bed bug larvae and feces. We did a check online and sure enough we had every sign of bed bug bites and evidence to show also. They claim to have rooms checked/sprayed every week, but when we pulled back the sheets and mattress cover and looked under mattress, it was filthy. It was quite disgusting to be sure. It was odd though, because upon a cursory room check everything appears clean. Bathrooms clean, walls clean, floor--not so clean, but overall it APPEARS clean. (Key word: appears). Be careful and don't be surprised if you choose to stay here. Hotel apologized & reimbursed but our bodies are still suffering. Perhaps another customer brought them in. I do not know. But because I wish someone had left a yelp review warning us, I am hoping to help another would-be victim of bug bites and warn them. read more

No designated pet area that has anything other than stones that are the size of quarters of bigger. Customer service was not cooperative!!! My husband and I travel for work. I personally love staying in chain hotels because I "know what to expect." We've probably stayed in 50+ hotels and we are pretty aware of rules and expectations. However, this hotel surprised us! We arrived at 2am and of course, asked for a late check out (as we always do if we get in late). The man in the front desk said that would be fine (we UNDERSTAND if there no late check outs and that is why we ask). However, when morning came, we got a knock at 11am by a housekeeper, and my husband said we have a late check out. She said okay and continued on. 20 mins pass and we get a call - hello, we just wanted to let you know we don't do late check outs and you have to leave in 10 MINS! I continued explaining how the man last night said we could get a late check out, otherwise we wouldn't be sleeping in this late (we know the drill). So, I said okay. Next my husband calls and explains how 10 mins is not enough (for anyone) especially to get ready and pack up. She said she could only do 10 mins. My husband tried to explain that if the man that checked us in said one thing and they are "kicking us" out in 10 mins is another thing - that is their fault in miscommunication. She didn't care. We drive long hours everyday and to have a nice quiet morning to get ready is important to us. This is a CHAIN and the way they treated us - I haven't never experienced. They need to be clear right away - with all employees. I gave it a two star because the hotels were nice and clean (however we didn't have a conditioner). But overall we enjoyed our stay. Whoever this lady is - she does not have good customer service skills. She needs to manage her employees, not kick out her customers. read more

Had to stop for the night on a cross county drive. I chose the cheapest place (which scared me) but don't let it scare you. They were extremely clean, updated, and friendly. Shower was a little small, and it seems the only thing not updated were the bathrooms but it worked and it wasn't absolutely terrible either. The breakfast was DELISH, they have a breakfast attendant who makes you a made to order omelet that was very good. Would stay again, and if you are hauling a large load they have a TON of parking that is easy to maneuver a truck and trailer. I had to move out of my house for a few days while the hardwood floors were being refinished, so I packed up the dogs and the cat and moved right into the Sleep Inn for a few nights. The room was huge, 2 queen beds, night table, dresser, writing desk with chair, and small table with 2 chairs. Free breakfast, pool, hot tub...I was so spoiled I didn't want to go back home! All of the staff were great. I always sent out-of-town guests there, as it's close to home and well, you know. PS....if you have a favorite pillow...bring it. read more

Awesome hotel, especially for the price. We were placed on a low floor, accommodated for our bed preferences and my dog that we are traveling with (a $25 pet fee is applied). The first thing I do when I put my bags down is look for "pepper" in the sheets and pillowcases. Not only was there nothing to be found, the bedding was cleaned immaculately. The floors were clean and the room smelled great. My only two complaints were the shower and the hallway smell. The bathroom itself was clean, but the shower had layers of grime in the corners that were pretty hard to miss. I went ahead and showered but I'm traveling with my mother and she didn't feel comfortable in the dirty shower. In the morning, the hallway smelled like like something I can only describe as farts. It may have been someone in particular, but I left the room a couple times and it lingered way too long for my liking. But very great room and hotel otherwise, and an awesome breakfast. We even tipped the omelet maker because the food was awesome. Probably won't come back through Gallup again, but if we did we'd definitely stay here! read more

BED BUGS!! Be warned!! Don't let this hotel fool you! It appears clean, but there are bugs lurking in the bed! My husband and I spent one night at this hotel. When we arrived in our room, it was hot and had a musty odor. We turned on the A/C and it cooled off nicely. The problem with the ac is that it would not stay on for very long, and we had to physically get up out of bed and attempt to turn it on every time it felt hot. Sometimes it wouldn't even turn on. I was awake all night with the feeling of things crawling on me. Although I couldn't find anything visible except some small black dot looking things, which I brushed off the bed, I was still itchy. Each time I brushed off the black dot things, a few more would appear. Later that night, I felt something crawling in my ear and used a Qtip to get it out. Out came one of those black dot things! I saved it on the Qtip, however it was gone by morning. My husband slept though all of this. In the morning, I had a big bite on my cheek, and several on my side, back, arm and butt. My husband had bites on his eye, neck and hand. We took photos for reference. By the time we got home, more of these bites appeared. I mentioned these issues upon checkout, and was told that "They don't know these things unless someone reports it". I asked for an adjustment on our bill, and was told that the manager who was out of state on another property would contact me. I never heard from anyone. I waited a few days and then I called the main customer service line and they tried to get ahold of the hotel at no avail. They gave me a reference number and an email to send photos of our bug bites, (which I did), and told me the hotel itself has to refund my money. I called the hotel directly several times, and nobody answered. So far nobody has done anything to help us. This is horrible customer service! I wasn't going to put this story out there, but since I can't get ahold of the hotel manager, and nobody seems to care, I feel I need to warn others before they choose this hotel! I called both the hotel and customer service today, and was told to call tomorrow. All I have been getting is the run around. They were going to add points to our account, (Which never happened), and they ended hanging up on me. Again... POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! Nothing has been done to correct this and I'm sure they haven't even checked the room we were in to address the bug situation. Room 217 by the way... Avoid it!!! Like I said folks.. BE WARNED when choosing this hotel property!! To the hotel manager: You have my number, I've left several messages! Correct this problem so it doesn't happen to other customers!!!! read more

Let me start by saying we are Westin and Marriott fans. Sleep Inn is not amongst our first choice when it comes to hotels. We are on a road trip and were too tired to make it to our friend's place so we stopped in Gallup. The Sleep Inn was the only decent hotel we could find that accepted pets. We were shocked by the cleanliness and the warmth of the staff. The hotel is newly renovated and although it's no frills, it is quite comfortable and clean. The dog walk area is awful though - no pet waste bags, and those hot sharp rocks were rough on our puppies' feet. But for a last minute stay out of necessity, we were very pleased. I just felt $119 + $30 for the pups was a bit high for this town. Also, ending free breakfast at 9am on a Sunday is ridiculous. We slept in and missed it. read more

We have been staying at Sleep Inns for a whole trip for the last two weeks. On our way through Gallup we booked a hotel at this particular stamp hoping to have the same luck we had with the past Sleep Inns on our trip. On arrival we were promptly given a room which was on the first floor and was a handicap room. The room was well appointed with a nice bed and normal amenities. However, our traveling mates were given a room on the second floor which was a handicap room and found that the hotel did not have an elevator to get that room. The hotel also had a very nice indoor pool and Jacuzzi and fitness center. Had it not been for the problem with the elevator and getting our friends to the second floor this hotel probably could be a rating of three or four stars.. The lack of an elevator really hampers a better rating for this hotel. The rate for the room was very competitive it was $ 74. All in all the hotel is a very good value for what you get. The breakfast bar was Wellpoint and even had an attendant making specialty eggs. read more

Pleasantly surprised! Very clean room, comfortable, and great pleasant staff who were very attentive, and welcoming! Room is modern and welcoming. This is my go to hotel when passing through Gallup for now on. I've had many negative experiences at unkept hotels. I'm so comfortable here! Don't go anywhere else. read more

My boyfriend and our one feline spend the night. Very pet friendly. It was only a $20 pet fee. We chose to stay here because the initial hotel we desired had a $150 pet fee. Yikes!
