Hands down one of the most fun places to taste wine and listen to music in the Walla Walla valley! No need to be intimidated here... this winery has a funky, laid back music theme going on. The walls are lined with shelves of classic vinyl record albums; just ask to pick one out, and they'll play it on their old-fashioned record player for you! The owners have a connection with Sub-Pop records in Seattle, so new music arrives several times a year. And we haven't even gotten to the wine yet! You'll enjoy sampling their Cabernet blends, which incorporate Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes from the region. Of special note: "The Conjurer" and "The Archimage", both aged in new oak barrels 11-20 months. Oh yeah, the wines are all named after types of magicians, and the labels beautifully echo the turn-of-the-century posters which used to advertise shows by Harry Houdini and the Great Thurston. These winemakers are also crazy about magic, so the tasting room sort of feels like the punk rock lobby of a magic castle. You can see why Sleight of Hand is being called a "cult" winery... their wine club hosts great parties several times a year (Neil Patrick Harris is apparently a member; maybe he'll make a trip to Walla Walla sometime!) The staff is great here... Traci is almost always there and will make you feel at home. I would give this place zero stars if I could. We were visiting from out of town and got lost. We called to let them know that we would be late, and gave a precise ETA. We had to leave a voicemail, because after multiple attempts, nobody bothered to answer the phone. Upon arrival, we were told that our voicemail stated we were canceling our reservation - 100% NOT true; there were 4 of us who were present when the message was left where the exact ETA was stated. The person at the counter was EXTREMELY rude, and said they could not accommodate. One of the people we were traveling with reached out to the office to explain the situation, and the person who responded was even more rude, and implied we had been over served. We had been to 1 winery prior, which was 40 minutes away. Out of our group of 4, not a single one of us was even slightly intoxicated. I absolutely understand if a place is too busy to accommodate our late arrival, but there is absolutely no need to be SO extremely rude about it. read more

This was stop #3 on a day of wine tours. Every where we had visited, the staff and owners were very friendly, knowledgeable and personable; Flying Trout, Balboa, Zerba. We walked into Sleight of Hand and there were only 4 other guests present. The owner was there talking with a couple of the other guests, and we were looking forward to hearing about the wine. So, we waited behind them for a tasting....and waited....and waited. Not once were we even acknowledged, with a "Hi", "Welcome!" or a "Hey, be with you guys soon!" type of statement. I have no issue with waiting for service, but even after the group was busy talking among themselves, the owner just continued to ignore us like we weren't there. Another salesperson ended up helping us, and the wine was just ok. I'd recommend trying any other winery in the area where people actually care when they have customers. read more

After several stops, as a former bold red wine drinker who no longer handles reds well, this is the favorite. The riesling and roses are super worthy, and the location allowed for good conversation with like minded peers. read more

If you go to WW, you must make a stop and buy some wine. The wine maker, Trey is extremely knowledgeable, personable and makes fantastic wine. Not your typical, stuffy wine tasting experience. Great wine with a hip, comfortable atmosphere. I bought a case of the Spellbinder (for table wine) and the Archimage, both are great. Highly recommend! read more

Wow! What a great experience. From the cardboard cutouts welcoming you to the cellar room with comfy couches and jute box! Excellent wines, entertaining and knowledgeable staff, delicious wines! Great selection of music and you can even choose which vinyl you would like played (depending on how busy they are). $10 tasting fee refunded with $20 purchase. Great selection of fun tshirts. Magnum and double magnums available for purchase. Staff took their time with our group and did an excellent job of explaining from where grapes were sourced and how many cases made...etc. Truly a wonderful experience. read more

This place rocks, literally. Trey has struck a chord with his blend of great wines and classic music from the 80's, give or take. What's not to like about wine tasting to the tune of vinyl classics spinning on the turntable? In addition to the nostalgia-inducing collection of vinyl, Sleight of Hands sports some excellent blends. It's rose` is so well done - crisp, clean, and not overly sweet like most. A Riesling sporting grapes from the Gorge area was excellent. And then the reds... We joined the club and took some home to get a head start. Excited to learn from Trey that he looks for opportunities to bring his members together in Seattle, such as at concerts. This was a favorite stop on our tour of the south side. read more

This is by far the funnest winery we went to on our wine tour of Walla Walla. All the others are beautiful and nice, what you'd expect from a winery. This one... much different. Not only is the record player blaring but they allow their guests to choose the music. It is just a fun atmosphere. Oh, I forgot to mention the wines! Great. During our next trip to Walla Walla we will go try other wineries but this is the only one we will for sure to add to our return list. read more

Tourd Walla Walla for the first time last weekend. Thought the winery name was a little odd, but once we got in the door, Trey has passion for wine making and Jerry has him focused one four wines. The co-owners have a collect of great old rock records, that my wife picked out a favorite and the whole tasting room was enjoying the tunes and great wine. The only negative was that they sell out of their best wines quickly. read more

Their wines were underwhelming and way overpriced for what they are. The customer service was subpar too... she was obviously rushing us through our tasting to close early or something, eager to pour the next wine while the last one was still in the glass. The hard rock decor and magic/alchemy themed wine combo was confusing at the best, made me wonder how serious they really are about making good wines. After visiting a few fabulous wineries around Walla Walla, their wines left a bitter taste in my mouth (literary). I regret taking 30-min detour to visit this place. read more

Came here last year and it was a pretty enjoyable place; busy and the staff was knowledgeable. The theme was all hard rock with the walls covered in Pearl Jam posters, awesome! We returned this year and they had changed the theme to magicians with Neil Patrick Harris as their focal point. They had all the same mediocre wines but this time it was dead with only one person on staff. This person could not have been any worse. I don't remember her name but she was androgynous in appearance. She kept disappearing to the back room and we had to wait around for her to come back and serve us the next tasting. After the third time of coming back out she had the audacity to ask us to take our time with the tasting so that she could eat her lunch in the back. The rest of our family met up with us here and suddenly it started to get busy and she was still disappearing to the back leaving a group of people out on the floor waiting for their next sample. On our way out we heard several people complaining about her and we proclaimed this was our last time going there. read more
