    Roast beef sandwick
    Loretta H.

Lunch comes by everyday requiring sustenance. On a whim, we decided to try Slick's. Parking was annoying since it is all street / pay parking. Ok, I bit the bullet and paid for parking and walked a couple of blocks to try out Slick's. That particular day we were the only patrons for a while. It's a small darkish bar with two people at the bar taking orders, filling beverage requests and making lunch for patrons. The menu is very small consisting of 5 sandwich choices (roast beef, ham, turkey, corned beef and tuna). Sandwiches are accompanied by a choice of potato, mac, cole slaw or a pickle along with a pile of potato chips. Both of us chose the roast beef for our luncheon repast. Meats are sliced to order for each sandwich. I had roast beef on rye bread with swiss cheese and russian dressing. This is where the surprise comes in. I ate half of one side of the sandwich just with my fork. I could not get my mouth around the delivered food. I am also glad that I chose the pickle since I obviously was not going to finish my sammy. That being said, we took home a half of both sandwiches and was able to get 2 more lunches from the meat. It's a hidden gem that you should venture into.

Another Schenectady Institution I have missed for 13 years.

The sandwich is huuuuuuuge. It is also very simple and pretty tasty. I got the turkey. It is by no means roasted in house but it was light and fresh. They use Hellmans Mayo which was a plus. No tomatoes as a sandwich option but they did have shredded lettuce. They had three bread options and I went with the rye which was fresh and delicious. You can add cheese. I had to open my mouth extra wide to take a bite. They have other sandwich options too.... Roast Beef, Ham and Cheese, Corned Beef and Tuna. I will let you know which one I like best :) Each sandwich platter comes with an option of macaroni salad, potato salad or pickles. I went with the potato salad which was definitely homemade and really good. The other reason to visit Slick's is the history. It is another Schenectady institution that dates back to the 70's. Pictures of old Schenectady line the walls. They have the equivalent of a beer museum in the cooler and drum roll please........ they have Utica Club on tap! I bet there are maybe 10 bars in the USA that have this historic beer on tap. So, go back in time, order a Utica club and a no frills gargantuan sandwich (bring a friend to share it if you aren't a fresser like myself) and enjoy a historic Schenectady gem.

Corned Beef with lettuce, onion, mayo & mustard. Turkey with lettuce & mayo... 2" thick

EXACTLY what I was expecting and it didn't disappoint!! See my pic of our giant corned beef and a giant turkey sandwiches... over 2" thick! If eaten in house, the sandwiches come with mac or potato salad and chips. The one cost saving corner I noticed was the lack of tomatoes as a possible addition to your sandwich. Had a great pint and great service that came with some good conversation. There is a lot of history at Slicks. The walls are covered with pics of old Schenectady. Place was nice and clean, like a bar keep still dusts and wipes everything down waiting for the next customer... The two sandwiches, with a pint of craft beer and a can of coke (served with a glass of ice) concluded with a $25 bill. I'll definitely be back, but I'll split a sandwich next time! Whew I'm stuffed!

This is the size of half my Roast beef sandwich

A hidden gem never knew existed. Its not much tiny little place That you won't leave there hungry. 40 brands of bottled beer to chose from an selection of Roast beef ,Turkey Breast,Corned Beef,Ham & Cheese or Tuna fish (light meat) orders come w home made sides of Mac Salad or Potato made w Hellmans Mayo an side of chips average price $8.75 Cant eat anywhere for that price

If you think sandwiches are all about the meat - and you're the kind of person who likes cold-cut platters, this place is for you. The meat to bread ratio is unfathomably high. Sure, you THINK you've seen meaty sandwiches, but that was probably 1-1.5" of meat on a grinder or kaiser roll. Here they come with 2"-3" of meet on regular sliced bread. The roast beef on my was sliced nice and thin and was tender and not stringy at all. Check out the pic I snapped & uploaded...

R Gershon's Deli (Facebook) Dear Friends of Gershon's, It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with our loyal customers, friends, staff, and extended family. I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Geshon's Deli & Caterers. Friday, January 30th, 2026, was our final day. This decision was not made lightly as Gershon's has been an integral part of my life since I was a little girl. After my father's untimely passing, I took over with one clear mission, to honor his legacy, keep his dream alive, and continue providing quality service and "good food for good people." For more than 60 years, Gershon's has been shaped by the people who walked through our doors. Every employee, customer, client, and friend has played a role in our story and our success. Unfortunately, rising food costs, ongoing economic challenges, the lasting effects of COVID, and the loss of my final opportunity this week have left me with no other choice. To everyone who has supported me over the past nine years, thank you. Thank you for the memories, for trusting us with your celebrations, holidays, milestones, and everyday moments. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives, in both the joyful times and the hard ones. I will miss seeing you all more than I can put into words. I am deeply grateful for the love and support you've shown me and my family over the years. I wish vou all nothina but the best. Please take care

On good days, they can serve one of the best sandwiches. Otherwise, I've had several occasions where I was left wondering why my pastrami sandwich was literally two pieces of bread with a small bit of pastrami - no dressing or anything else, and no questions asked. I like the attentiveness of the staff whenever we come here in person whether for diner in or takeaway, and their fresh pickles are wonderfully crunchy and worth looking forward to. They have some delicious pies, too, and the chocolate cream pie is our fave. I would go back, but the inconsistency over time certainly has dampened my enthusiasm that I may have once had.

But also... facts are facts and the facts are DELICIOUS. It was a full-on snowstorm, the weird dead zone after Christmas where everyone else is like "nah, we're closing early," and Perrecca's was like: "We ride." Just me and the wife, snow coming down sideways, and this place is warm, welcoming, and absolutely cranking out hot food. And I mean HOT hot -- not "restaurant hot," but "careful-that-plate-is-trying-to-burn-your fingerprints-off" hot. Love to see it. Food? Super tasty. No notes. Service? Solid across the board. Bathrooms? Clean enough to eat off of (I didn't, but I could've). Parking? Plenty of off-street, no parallel parking Olympics required. Now let's talk about the hostess -- because WOW. She works the room like she personally built the place brick by brick. Touches every table, warm, friendly, checking in -- you'd swear her name was on the sign out front. Absolute pro. Hospitality Hall of Fame behavior. Between the legendary bakery, the attached restaurant, and the fact that they stayed open when the weather said "stay home," this place is a must-see Schenectady institution. Come hungry.
