There is no doubt that they are experienced pizza makers who know their craft! --The crust is always crispy and golden not burned or under baked. --The pizza is light and airy not dense, not wet and slightly doughy under the toppings. One pizza was Sausage, Mushroom and Onion. The onions complemented the Italian sausage. This combo was a hit. The toppings were generous. Oh what a bite! Our guests raved. The other two pizzas were White Broccoli and Cheese. The outstanding crusts make these Sicilian style pizzas delicious. No wonder they have been in business for over 50 years. Very disappointed with my experience. The biggest issue was that there was no clear notice that the restaurant was cash only. In this day and age, most people expect a business to accept cards, so finding out only when it was time to pay was frustrating and inconvenient. If you're cash only, that's fine, but customers should be clearly informed before ordering--ideally with a sign on the door, at the register, and/or on the menu. I would have brought cash if I had known ahead of time. The pizza may be good, but the lack of communication made the experience frustrating. read more

Not only was the food excellent, but the people are just as good! Workers let me in the back to film for my pizza review. The pizza is Brooklyn dough recipe and has excellent crust and the perfect balance of sauce to cheese. It's a proper NY style pizza. They have an awesome menu and a cool bar area to sit at. Grew up on LI here. Have been a diehard Paesan's fan, 'cause it's the closest I'd come to NY City pizza (Yes, I've been to I Love NY, but not even close), but on this recommendation we went to Marino's last night. Didn't know it was cash only. Had no cash. They plopped our slices right down on the table and said not to worry about it. Wow! First bite was fantastic! Yes, the sauce is great! The cheese is chewy (not the slimy cheese that's so common in "upstate" NY) and the crust was VERY crispy! Best pizza I've had in this part of NY! Mailing him a check for our pizza right now and will definitely be back. Romo's is good, but not the kind of pizza we're talking about here. Can't compare the two. read more

Pizza is a staple for our family and while visiting my sister in law, we decided to try Marino's. A small pepperoni and a large sausage and peppers did not disappoint. We also added in antipasto with the balsamic dressing - which was packed with meat and cheese! When I walked in to pick up our order it smelled so amazing inside! This is a cash only establishment. The few times I ordered take-out, the person on the other end of the line kindly reminded me of that detail. Marino's is a beloved restaurant in Schenectady. Besides being cash only, they open late, 3PM at the earliest, and close even later, 1AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Every time I've been there, it's been busy. Their website states they've been in business since 1970. Half a century is no joke. History and tradition run deep here. One can sense it. There's been enough written about their pizzas and they're certainly good. The crust seemed crispier than most although the sauce and toppings aren't as extraordinary as others would have you believe, imho. There were a few things I noticed when I ate something other than pizza. I tried one of their sandwiches, boneless chicken sautéed with peppers and onions with a choice of either red or white sauce. On another occasion, I ordered a chicken parmigiana with linguini. That dish is served with bread and butter. For both orders, what I found out of the ordinary were the serving sizes. Gargantuan! The to-go bags were straining under the weight. The chicken parmigiana had 2 separate containers, one for the linguini with sauce and the other for the chicken. That order alone was easily the size of 2 to 3 meals. It's as if an Italian grandmother made sure you didn't go hungry. You can practically hear her declaring, "Mangia, mangia!" Neither meal went to waste because they were also tasty. This place fits the mold of what comes to mind when casual Italian American fare is mentioned. You get what you pay for, in this case, you get a little (lot) more. read more

To elaborate, every time I eat here, the pizza is absolutely delicious. The crust is thin and crispy with excellent taste. Moreover, the sauce is top-tier and they put plenty of it on the pizza. Also, the cheese has just the right amount of grease and it's magnificent. The pepperoni is sliced thin and they load the pizza with it. Simply put, everything about this pizza is great. After we were seated, it took a minute to get menus, but service was fast after that. Toasted bread and butter came out after we ordered, which was delicious. I ordered the stuffed shells. Definitely a little heavy on the cheese, which made it a tad bit saltier than I like, but it was a good, filling pasta. Others at the table ordered pizza slices, which were a great price, and came out quick. The slices were huge, and a single slice was plenty so we ended up taking one home. We were in and out within an hour, which was the goal. A great short meal. The place is cash only, and the bill came out just as a number written on some receipt paper.
