Roast Beef Sandwich on French Roll Macaroni Salad lemonade
Emily S.

Arrived at 12:15pm, and there were only 2 people seated, but quickly filled up for the lunch rush. The server was friendly and the food prepared in a timely manner. The food was good, and the sandwiches were large. I was thrilled to discover they had cheesecake from the Carnegie Deli! That alone is reason to go back ;)

Pastrami on rye

Stopped into Gershon's for a quick pastrami on rye to go recently. You will not be disappointed by their huge selection of sandwiches such as corned beef, pastrami and the list goes on. And did I mention their freshly made soups and salads? Of course not to be outdone by their delicious looking desserts such as cheesecake and rugelach just to name a few. A deli lover's paradise indeed! They are in fact well known for their catering and have been serving the local area for more than 60 years. My pastrami on rye with half sour pickle tasted good and was fresh. My only wish was that it could have been a bit more substantial. The sandwich shown on their website was definitely more stacked, and it was what drew me over there. Still, it was a tasty lunch and I definitely could've eaten more!

A plate of pastrami sandwich with a pickle.

On Saturday afternoon, I was hungry for a sandwich and I stopped by Gershon's Deli. I went inside, and the place has a small store, a restaurant, and a kitchen behind the counter. The menu has a list of variety of deli meat, fresh made soup, and dishes. The people working there were friendly and ready to take your order. I ordered a large pastrami sandwich. There are two sizes: regular and large. The sizes were based on the amount of meat in a sandwich. There were choices of bread and cheese. I ordered rye bread and Swiss cheese with it. I asked about mustard and they make their own mustard. I accepted it and in less than 10 minutes the sandwich was ready. It comes with a pickle. The pastrami was tender and the mustard was perfect. The size of the sandwich was big and worth the price. I'm going back again and will bring my family and friends.

Beef brisket platter with choice of bread. I picked pumpernickel.

I ordered the beef brisket platter. The platter contains beef brisket, sliced, and it was braised. Not sure why I expected something a bit different. The pumpernickel bread tasted store bought. Gave the pickle to my significant other and she said it was fine. The potato pancake/hash thing was still cold on the inside, and a bit too burnt on the outside by taste. Meal was ok. Nothing special. Perhaps I ordered wrong. Should have gone for one of the sandwiches. Seating was prompt. Server was polite and efficient. Crowded during lunchtime. Parking a bit tough as it is street parking only as far as I can tell. When I am in the area again I might give them another try.

I really wanted to love this place! I came here for a business lunch. Our server was very nice and…read moreefficient! I ordered the margherita panini with a side of coleslaw. The coleslaw had a rather large chunk of cabbage core on top of my portion cup, right away I knew it wasn't house made. Okay so I removed that, still excited to try the coleslaw but as I forked it I noticed the dressing had a weird texture. I smelled it and tasted it and as suspected it was about to turn. No more coleslaw for me. The panini which sounded excellent was weird. I'm just not sure why it didn't taste good with all of those wonderful ingredients. And although I'm not positive, I suspect that the chicken breast wasn't an actual chicken breast. It was an interesting texture and flavor, kind of like chicken at a theme park where it's more like a patty instead of cut right off the ribs like you would find in the grocery store. This was just an off putting food experience unfortunately. My lunch mate said that the home fries were really good and he appreciated that they gave him gluten free toast at no up charge, though he said the bread was soggy, which is an interesting comment to make about toast. He said the omelette was an omelette.

I've always wanted to visit More Perreca's on Jay St. I've heard so much about the restaurant and…read moreespecially the bakery, Perreca's, located right next door. The businesses are located a couple of blocks from the gateway marking the entrance to Schenectady's Little Italy. So much history, food and romance in this neighborhood. We had Sunday brunch at More Perreca's. The bakery is closed on Sunday but I got a Sausage Lettuce Tomato sandwich served on toasted Perreca's bread. It was so delish. The Italian sausage was served with lettuce, tomato, roasted garlic puree, mayo and side salad. Everything was so fresh. My $11 meal was reasonably priced. The garlic purée was amazing. They need to bottle it. I'd buy some. My friend had the Mac and cheese and an espresso martini. He loved both. Rachelle was our server. She was wonderful. Very helpful. She explained some of the menu to me because there were a number of Italian sausage dishes. The food was prepared quickly which was great because we were hungry. Rachelle came back later to check on us. I gave her a thumbs up and a smile while busily chewing a bite of sandwich. The restaurant is charming with nice tin ceilings and big windows to let the light in. There are many booths which makes it cozy. When we arrived most of the tables were full. Based on the chatter in the room it sounded as though a lot of friends had gathered at the restaurant to literally break bread over brunch. The menu offers a nice variety: from egg breakfasts, assorted salads to Italian classics. It was an all around yummy and enjoyable experience. I let Rachelle know that we'll be coming back.

Our server, Rachelle M. was great! My app was garlic parm wings that were tasty & crispy-perfect. Three of us had the eggs in purgatory- 3 eggs cooked in a spicy marinara sauce w/ 4 pieces of toasted Perreca's famous Italian bread. Highly recommend this dish that's always on their menu. Others had the very good eggplant rollatini over spaghetti. The original coal-fired bakery is next door offering their signature crusty bread, red tomato pie, cheeses, meatballs, salamis, soppersottas, olives, giant cupcakes, & cannolli. Located in Schenectady's Little Italy. Restaurant hours: Sun, Wed, Thursday 11am-7pm, Fri & Sat 10am-8pm, closed Mon & Tue. More's Perreca's never disappoints. Beer, wine, & cocktails served so try here for brunch too. Thank you, Rachelle & staff. We had a great time. Nick & Liz, Albany, NY, USA

From what I saw, they're mostly my age or older, looking to eat something familiar, comforting, and within budget. It's everyday fare prepared with decent ingredients and care; a tier above the local diner. Here's my sleeper recommendation on the menu: The Sidewinder. There's no description. I'd never heard of it before so I asked. Forgive my memory if I don't have it exact but it is a roast beef sandwich on marble rye, a little coleslaw, Swiss cheese, some horseradish mayo served with either chips or a side salad. It also comes with a spear of those good deli pickles. The sandwich is served hot/warm from the flat top, the temp hot enough to get the cheese melty gooey. I now consider it my go to "meat sammich". You know when you're nearly finished with a meal but are already thinking about when to get it again? Is that just me? Go try it.
