Down to Albany for a frustrating visit to Vital Statistics and needed to eat and chill and that's exactly what Ria's allowed me to do. Standard sandwiches and specialty's including wraps and vegetarian options! Everything really hit the spot and food was served quickly to the table after ordering at the counter, and with a smile from the staff. This place is it. There is no going further. Remember when Lark Street neighborhood was bustling with great food and then the pandemic hit and it was hard to find any good food to eat? Without paying an arm and a leg. This place on State Street is all about bringing business and money back to Downtown Albany. I had the best Roast Beef Grilled cheese. I am a Desi person (Pakistani) so I very rarely eat sandwiches but you know when I do decide to get one, it has to be the best kind, oozing and hot and all. This was the Best Roast Beef Grilled cheese sandwich I had, with cheese, horse radish, mayo and banana peppers for the sizzle. It was mouth watering, I am drooling just reliving that memory of my lunch I had there. They call it "Lark" Sandwich. Which I thought was so cute. *there was no strings that normal cheap roast beef has, also the bread was super fresh and toasted. Plus the best part was they let me wash my hands. Which was their sweetest gesture after I begged them, because I had a rough day and needed to wash my hands. Great clean place, good service and daily specials. Nice place to go so I can get a little walk. I usually order when I get there since they are pretty quick but you can order ahead. Tifay I msy have wanted to order ahead since the special sold out (the pilgrim) but I rather enjoyed the lobbyist, that came as a wrap. It was yummy! I was tempted to get a cookie or two since they are homemade in house but decided to be good but that's your option too. A great place and at a decent price. read more

Great sandwich! Very close to the NYS Capitol building and the downtown Hilton. Smallish dining area but most people were picking up to-go orders or waiting for theirs to get made. They had some grab and go sandwiches and nice looking, fresh salads in a standing cooler. I got the Ria's sandwich with grilled chicken, fresh mozz, and sauteed broccoli rabe on a baguette. Delicious and somewhat healthy. All of their sandwiches and wraps looked great but I'm glad I ordered what I did. I think it was about $13 and came with a bag of chips. Large portion IMO. Also, she made a fresh pot of coffee for me too, when I got there (I didn't ask her to). Ria's is an awesome lunch spot in downtown Albany. I love it because they have gluten free bread and gluten free wraps! Their sandwiches are all huge - we normally get The Senate and The lobbyist, but everything we get, we love! Definitely get their fresh brewed iced tea and a homemade cookie, too! read more

Ria's sandwiches are really tasty, great portion and have fresh ingredients. The bread and rolls used for the sandwiches are tasty and perfect! just the proper chew/crunch on the crust and softness on inside. and the cookies are some of the best I've had, really a sweet treat! Getting the menu online doesn't work and/or is a huge hassle, which I have mentioned to them. Some offices have Facebook blocked and other online menus for Ria's are old or no longer available/accurate. Even using Fb on mobile, getting to the menu didn't work. I've now gotten take out several times and always been pleased with food quality, freshness, and taste. The price point is a little high and placing a pre order one time was a hassle. I called an hour in advance for a few sandwiches and they said due to a large catering order, they needed more than an hour for my order. Also twice now, after 4 visits, when attempting to order sandwiches on the menu, they were out of the items to make what we wanted. I understand there are supply chain struggles but it was strange they couldn't do the senate - a turkey sandwich but when we switched order to turkey club, that was fine. read more

Ria's Bistro is a tiny space with epic sandwiches! (I haven't tried breakfast..yet!) We happened upon it and are quite happy we did! My husband got the State Street- Roast beef, white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, horseradish mayo on a ciabatta roll. You also get a side of chips. I had the capitol. Basically an Italian with an olive spread on a French baguette. (I am posting a picture of the menu). Both sandwiches were amazing! The bread was fresh and the meats were exceptional. The portions are quite big in my opinion. I couldn't finish the whole sandwich. Rest assured, I took it home with me! Highly recommend this spot! The staff was friendly and helpful! read more

A cute little place that is about as "hole in the wall" as you can get. My lunch plans fell through so I came here to explore. It was a hot summer day and inside was only slightly better. There was seating for a dozen or so people, and another amount of the same waiting around. A few had a place their orders, but most were waiting for their's. I ordered the "Assembly" sandwich which consisted of "Fresh Buffalo mozzarella, romaine, tomatoes with homemade basil pesto aioli on French baguette." I added grilled chicken, and with four cookies (for my coworkers... honest!) and a bag of chips it only came to $13 and change. It was pleasantly large, though not as big as a foot-long from the sub place. It was much better. It wasn't the easiest sandwich to eat but it was very tasty. I had to wait $12 for my food and they have a sign warning of the wait. They make everything to order, and I don't know if that means grill the chicken too upon order. It was stuffy inside, and the radio speakers struggled during my visit. Perhaps because it was in a basement, or maybe a loose wire, but it kept putting out static. I dealt with it while I was there, but no one should have to listen to the Eagles and Van Halen on a regular basis in that environment. Maybe a CD player? Today I walked into Ria's Bistro in Albany 113 State street. I met the owner Ria. A Very nice lady who was pleasant and welcoming. I said I'm not from this area and that I was in the mood for breakfast. I ordered three eggs over easy bacon,sausage & cheese on a plate with Rye toast. Plus a large coffee. I Have to say the food was excellent and the service was great! They All made my feel like Family. Hats off to Ria And her staff! Apparently I came in before the lunch rush because there was only one other person in line at 11:30am! This was good because I was hungry and it also gave me to time to look over Ria's extensive menu that consisted of hot/cold sandwiches, salads, daily specials, and more. I settled on the "State Street" -- but doctored it up. Instead of roast beef, I asked for turkey. Instead of ciabatta, I asked for a french baguette, and I also asked them to use a light-hand on the horseradish mayo. With so many substitutions (I'm so annoying.), I half expected parts of it to be wrong, but everything was perfect, and my creation even came with a free bag of Lay's potato chips. We had a small lunch catered for our downtown office. We had assorted sandwiches - which were huge, fresh and delicious. We had a garden salad which was huge, very good, and came with a large container of croutons, and dressing on the side - plus serving utensils. I work about half a block from Ria's and have gotten food to-go numerous times. Food has always been good, service is friendly and baked goods look super fresh. I always check FB for their daily specials as they are VERY good about posting daily. Staff is always very friendly, even when it gets packed inside during lunchtime with the crowd from the state/county/city workers all trying to get a bite to eat. During this time the wait for food can be about 15 minutes (or more), which doesn't leave me much time to eat (half hour lunch). This is where a star was lost. There are tables and a counter inside where people can sit and eat. It is rather small, seating around 20, but it seems most people take their food to-go. I recommend going before the lunch rush, or possibly call in an order ahead of time. read more

This is a special place, burrowed below ground within view of the Capital Building. This family-owned establishment's baked goods and breakfasts are quick and fantastic, offering food for inside their cozy Bistro, outdoor seating along the street, and outside within walking distance to just about anywhere you need to be. One of my favorite lunch spots near work for either take out or a lunch meeting. I usually get the organic salad with chicken but on special (read cheat) days I get the Ria sandwich which is grilled chicken, mozzarella and broccoli rabe on focaccia. It's the kind of sandwich I dream about that makes me curse adulthood and the need to limit things like dairy and carbs. Oh and speaking of which, the baked goods here are also pretty delicious. I've had a few of the soups here as well and they were all tasty and sell out fast on cold Albany winter days. One thing I do wish is that they didn't use plastic to go containers and forks for their salads when you are dining in. I always feel bad about generating the unnecessary waste. Also, be warned that place definitely gets packed around 12 for the lunch rush. A good sign of the quality of food of course but something to keep in mind if you're short on time. read more

Disappointed!! I work close by and after reading all the good reviews I decided to give it a try. Well, my experience was not good. I paid 19 bucks for a hot sandwich (see attached picture ) a small soup and a drink... My mistake, not to check the price of the soup (6 bucks for small soup that I don't think it was that good). The sandwich I got was The Vanburen and to be honest it was just ok (I am one of those persons that can taste when something is done with rush and not with quality, and the place wasn't even busy). There are places around the area with better prices and better quality of the food. For now, is out of my list, maybe I'll give it a try another time...when the soup prices drop, or the quality improves. read more

Touring the capital and found this place on Yelp for a quick lunch. Excellent lunch and if you have a gluten free guest in your party they will LOVE it! I had van buren (not GF) and it was a really great sandwich with piles of meat on a great bread. She got GF but was thrilled that any sandwich was avail with bread.
