I have used the Truckee Riverwalk a lot over the years…read more But I didn't realize that the Riverwalk overlaps some with the Tahoe Pyramid Trail in the downtown area. The 6 1/2 mile Reno section of the trail is dotted with mileage markers, directional signs and other information boards. Also flat yellow numbered discs to help emergency personnel find you. The entire Reno section of the trail is paved and well maintained. Bicyclists, joggers and dog walkers all share the trail, so be aware slower traffic to the right and try not to block the trail. This section is also fairly level. It starts along the Truckee at Kietzke, and continues to follow the river to Verdi. Where it becomes a different section of the trail. In the summer this is a great area to walk as the river usually makes the temperature a little cooler. There several parks and areas to park along the way. As the weather warms up, get out and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. There's lots of fabulous nature to see along the trail.

The TPT uses existing trails, such as this one, No snowshoes or ski equipment required. They keep it plowed except for the regional park. Photo opportunities are amazing. Another one of my favorite winter hikes is the trail from Floriston towards Farad. It's a winter wonderland!

Spring is here! Discovered this close-in trail for quick midday hike. A few trails at this…read morelocation to choose from. Small paved parking lot allows for off street parking. Trail head has bathroom facilities, clear trail signage. Be aware that some trails do not allow dogs while some allow them on leash. Did a quick family friendly hike to the Kings Canyon Waterfall (.3 miles) and then the North King's Loop (1.8 miles). Waterfall hike is short and a well-groomed trail makes for a great family friendly stroll for all ages. Falls are really flowing right now with a lot of shade trees. North King's Loop. 1.8 miles loop with about a 450' elevation gain for about .9 miles. Trails are well-groomed (kudos to City of Carson and volunteers). For most of the loop, the trail is narrow to a shoulder width with a hill on one side and a slope off on the other. My hike is late March, early spring, so still signs of snow and ice hazards on parts of the shade sections of the trail. Overall, a great hike in the City of Carson.

It was a good hike overall, but was disappointed with the amount of dog poop on the trail. I also found that several of the map signs along the trail have been vandalized and are completely gone or not legible. This trail system is maintained by Washoe County, so I'm hoping that these signs will be replaced soon. This is a great hike to do during the colder months and what's great is how easily accessible it is.

In the daytime, this road is magnificent and the switchback turns are enjoyable even in a big Sprinter van. At night time, this would have been terrifying. From this lookout spot where there are a handful of parking spaces, you can look across the Reno valley and see the interstate across the way and the southern end of the city of Reno. This area is new to me so I don't know what's what or even how much of the city we can see. But the view was amazing. If you're able-bodied, there is a bit of a walkway down through clearings to some rock piles that seem to have been fashioned into lookouts. I would recommend caution as this is the Nevada desert and you might be disturbing some of the creepy crawlies that think your big toe is dinner. That would be unpleasant. But the views? It was an easy course for an able bodied participant, but if you have balance issues, there are lots of rocks and sand to maneuver around. Beautiful natural scenery and lots of people out on a Friday early evening. Be aware of your surroundings. You could be in the path of the disc or interrupting players trying to move through the holes. Great opportunity to include the whole family in an outdoor event!

There is plenty of sights to see and if you like wildlife watching, this might be a place for you to check out. Also, plenty of sage brush to smell too. Nothing like sage brush smell after a good rain fall. Speaking of which the next time it does rain you should definitely come by here just for that because it is therapeutic and healing. I love it. There is plenty of parking. I have never had an issue finding any parking. It can get a little crazy during spring time because of all the hikers and mountain bikers. But it has never made me think about not going because there wont be parking. There is plenty. There are no restrooms on this side of the trail. So, be aware of that. So during the summer time might not be the best time to come here because this trail is very sun exposed and doesn't have a lot of trees to provide shade, unfortunately. With that said the views here of Reno, Nevada at night is pretty awesome and beautiful because there isn't many trees here. It is a good and bad thing because it is very hot during the summer but I just keep looking at the pros haha. I would definitely recommend going spring time and fall time. On a beautiful morning in June, I was visiting my friend who lives in Reno, Nevada. We had…read moredecided to spend and enjoy a couple of days in Lake Tahoe. We wanted to hike so I went on All Trails and found a fun hike near Mount Rose. Location is right off the Mount Rose Highway. Parking was found with ease and we began this 4.8 mile out and back trail to Galena Falls. We weren't sure if the falls would be flowing as it was late June but there was still a lot of snow left on the ground. This trail is easy to moderate and absolutely stunning views of Lake Tahoe and the Mount Rose wilderness. We made it to the falls and were pleasantly surprised as the water was flowing. We stopped and enjoyed our lunch under the falls and we had such a great time and fantastic weather. I really wanted to press on and summit Mount Rose but my friend is not as adventurous as me so we headed back to the car after we finished lunch. I would definitely recommend this hike to all. It is not challenging and and offers so many great scenery along the way. I went off trail to check out Lake Tamarack and was so glad I did as it a totally unspoiled mountain lake. The Sierra Nevada's are by far some of the most incredible mountains to hike with their altitude and beauty. See you on the trail and remember to LEAVE NO TRACE!

Ski season is over for me, cycling is starting, and maybe hiking but only in shaded areas…read more Quality/Quantity - Well not bike friendly for my wife, which I warned her... I even struggled in the loose dirt/sandy areas. 4.8 miles, 2 hour hike, less than an hour for me on my bike. Well I spent most of my time waiting for my wife, lol. Lots of wildlife in the summer. Again stay safe - Coyotes, bobcats, mule deer, black beers (we get this at the house also, LOL), mountain lions, rodents (too many to name), bats, birds, reptiles, etc. But during the winter, it felt very safe and relaxing. Atmosphere - Plenty of parking, as "summer" has not really started. I enjoy visiting these places most during off peak seasons. There are also campsites, BBQ, picnic areas, volleyball courts, horse shoe, clean bathrooms, plenty of parking (cars, RVs, buses, etc). There is even a stage in Eagle Meadows for events. Open 7 days a week from 7am to 7pm (hours are also seasonal, see their website). Clean bathrooms throughout the different parking lots and camp sites. Horse and bike trails. Service - Self service. Price - Free. Owner Comment - Thank you Washoe County for another great park, trail!
